  • Interactive Report with PDF BLOB

    I have a table with a blob that contains a PDF, is there a way that I can convert this to an IRR?
    I don't want to view the PDF contents I just want to search that blob field it using my oracle text index (and obtain the scoring) and my other fields normally....
    Here is my original query syntax:
    SELECT id as Download,score (1) || '%' "PDF Relevance",abbreviation
    FROM listing
    where
    some criteria listed.....
    and
    contains(blob_content,'%' || :P2_SEARCH || '%',1) > 0
    Thanks,
    Justin

    Marco,
    Are you aware of anyway that I could create a view of my blob data and search it that way for a temporary fix? The blob data is only updated twice a year so refreshing it is not a concern as I can take care of that?
    I may have to just create a separate search for the full text of the PDF via the Oracle text index. :(
    Thanks,
    Justin

    xmltype(blob).getClobVal()

  • APEX 5.0. Report with image stored in a BLOB gives ORA-06502.

    Hi,
    I want to create an Interactive Report - Desktop with an image in which is stored in a BLOB but it returnes a: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error.
    I have created a test report with only the image (billed - which is a BLOB) and an ID (the PK  - a number from a sequence)
    select ID, billed from foto
    I have tried with and without a formatmask for the ID '999999999999999' and the Type as Plain text as there seems not to be a better choice..
    For the 'billed' Type is 'Display Image' and the 'Table Name' and 'BLOB Column' are set. 'Primary Key Column 1' is set to ID. 'Mime Type Colomn' points to a field that contains 'image/jpeg' as the stored image is a photo in jpg.
    The image displays OK from a Forms application.
    DB is a 11.2.0.4 on Linux 6.6 and APEX is 5.0
    What have I missed?
    Thanks,
    Dino

    As described in the documentation, the report query must select the length of the BLOB column, not the column itself:
    select id, dbms_lob.get_length(billed) billed from foto

  • Report with Multiple queries too slow in BI Publisher 11g

    Hi, I have a report in 11g where i need to create multiple queries to show them in report. I tried to combine everything in one query, but i found that the query is too huge and hard to understand and maintain. I created 3 data sets and linked them together. In SQL dev, the main query is returning about 315 records and first detail query returns less than 100 records and second detail query is returning one record which is BLOB. Each query returns data within a couple of seconds from SQL Developer. The entire report from BI Publisher should be just 21 page PDF output. Did anyone face performance issues while running reports with multiple queries in 11g? I ran reports that have single query which returned 10K pages PDF and never had an issue while everthing is in one query. This is the first time Iam attempting to create multiple queries. Can someone help me understand what i might be doing wrong or missing here. Thank you.

    Isn't there a way for you to do this via a Package/Procedure versus having multiple queries?
    Per the BI Publisher guide,
    Following are recommended guidelines for building data models:
    Reduce the number of data sets or queries in your data model as much as possible. In general, the fewer data sets and queries you have, the faster your data model will run. While multiquery data models are often easier to understand, single-query data models tend to execute more quickly. It is important to understand that in parent-child queries, for every parent, the child query is executed.
    You should only use multiquery data models in the following scenarios:
    To perform functions that the query type, such as a SQL query, does not support directly.
    To support complex views (for example, distributed queries or GROUP BY queries).
    To simulate a view when you do not have or want to use a view.

  • Receiving Error when running Crystal reports with Images in WebSphere 6.1

    I am designing a report with a sub report that displays images via (BLOBS). The images are between 10-20 kb in size and there could be up to 200 images in the report.
    There are no problems when I run the report using Java 1.5 with Tomcat 5.5 server and JDBC connection (using ojdbc14.jar) to an Oracle 10g database.
    It seems that if I attempt to run the same report on a WebSphere 6.1 environment, the below error is encountered (stack trace is below)
    I am using Crystal 2008 (ver 12.0.0.683).
    Based on the stack trace, I think it is either an IBM JDK  javax.* package compatibility issue or the current version of Crystal reports (no service packs installed - current client environment) has a known issue with Websphere.
    I searched the forums for any similiar issues but could not find one.
    Could installing Service pack 3 solve this issue or is there another possibility?
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your reply.
    The answer to your question concerning if Websphere is a clean install is no.  The client has other applications running on that server.  We do not have access to that server other than the log files and I requested information as to what other applications are on the server.
    We did try adding a known working version of the IIOMetadata class in the ear file and deploying it in the hopes that  class will be loaded before using any other version.  Unfortunately, we receive the posted errors.  Which may mean that a different version of the class has already been loaded in memory and that is the one being accessed.  A request would have to be made to the client for a shutdown and restart of Websphere in determining if that may be the case.  Since there are other applications running, coordination and communication to the other application owner will need to be done first.
    Any additional ideas will be appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Tony.

  • Create Downloadlink with custom blob to start other Application

    Greetings!
    We are using Apex 4.2.1 and another system. For this other system you can use simple files with an id, that start it and open a specific page, same way like e.g. automatically opening ms-word, when downloading a .doc file.
    So we would like to have a column in an APEX-report, that has this download functionality. I have read throu How to convert varchar to BLOB in oracle 10g? and took a look at this APEX tutorial and a Blog from Eddie Awad.
    But still I cant get it to work.
    For testing purposes I have created a table with a blob column, and a procedure, like the one in the APEX tutorial.
    When I call the procedure like in that example#OWNER#.download_my_file?p_file=#ID#I get the error message: The requested URL /pls/prod/(our owner).download_my_file?p_file was not found on this server. Maybe it does not work with the server setup we are running, or needs some adjustments?
    Also as mentioned by Eddie Awad, that APEX supports BLOB columns in reports, doesnt work for me. The column output (both IR and classic) is "unsupported Datatype".
    Can you help me with any advice in this matter?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    best regards,
    tobi

    Hi PARS,
    thanks for the link.
    I followed the example, looks like a nice approach, but I cant get it to work.
    I created the procedure, the non-public the Page-0 process(On Load:Before Header), the app-item, and a link with the url as described in that example. But when linking, I get the error ORA-01403: No Data found. The process is not executed.
    I think I can solve it with the APEX-buildin BLOB download feature in an IR - i have firuged it our now. But using a procedure would still be a much better solution.
    edit:
    Hi Mike,
    thanks for your hints. I have included a propper filename and mimetype in the table. However, if I use a table to open the blob, that would have to be filled beforehand and joined to the other report. So using a procedure on another page would still be better. I will try later again to get that to work.
    So far, thanks for your help,
    tobi

  • Report with link to file uploaded into database

    I have created a form that allows me to upload files into a database table with a blob column.
    Is it possible to create a report that will have a link to the files / database blob column, so when a user clicks on it, it displays the file.

    Hiya,
    You can create a simple report that list all the file IDs and their name. Then create a link on the ID or filename, which calls a procedure (DISPLAY_BLOB) passing it the id.
    you can view the content of the procedure in the document ference below:
    http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=FOR&p_id=336842.995

  • What to do with the BLOB for the Error Handling  ?

    I have a BPEL process consuming messages for b2berroruser and it works well. My next step is to resubmit the data to the Queue.
    Do I leave it the payload as a BLOB data type when resubmitting the transaction ?
    I also need to write a report with the text of the raw data. How do I convert the BLOB to a human readable type in BPEL ?

    To simplify even more for you - lets say I wanted to send raw EDI data into a email >when there is an error of some sort (for business users to handle). How do I convert the >BLOB stored in the b2b schema to readable text for either resubmission or write to a >message.If you want to send the raw EDI data in an email then one of the possibilities could be to query the database view with the specific b2b message id. The payload is stored as a blob and would need to be extracted as text. I am a basic PL/Sql user so won't be able to give you the best query to use here. Lets say you want to extract the first 250 chars of the EDI native data, then you could use:
    select UTL_RAW.CAST_TO_VARCHAR2 (DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR(wirepayload,250, 1))
    from b2b_instancemessage where b2bmessageid = '<b2bMessageID>';
    So you could write a PL/SQL function to extract this information (by looping over chunks of data), invoke that function (eg. from BPEL) and send out an email.

  • Open report with "Save as" and "Open with" dialogue

    Hi,
    I'm using jasper reports within my application. I manage to open them in a new window but in that case the url containing JasperServer username and password is shown. I would like to open the report without showing the url.
    I tryed using a database procedure (http://sqlcur.blogspot.com/2009/02/jasperreports-in-apex.html) but all I get is a alert window saying "file does not begin with ' pdf-'". Couldn't see what is the problem (I used the same procedure as Ino has in his example) so I thought of another way. Is it possible, when someone clicks a button to open a report, to open that report with a "Save as" and "Open with" pop up window?
    The javascript function that I use:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function openLAPopUpJasper(url){
    w = open(url,"winLov","toolbar=false,menubar=false,location=false,resizable=yes, //scrollbars=yes,status=yes,fullscreen=true");
    if (w.opener == null)
    w.opener = self;
    w.focus();
    </script>
    Thanks in advance!

  • XML Publisher Report with PL/SQL

    Hi
    Like to know how to develop the XML Publisher Report with PL/SQL, i did the following
    1. created a pkg like as below
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY APPS.TEST_XMLTAG_PKG AS
    PROCEDURE main (errbuf OUT VARCHAR2,
    retcode OUT NUMBER
    ) IS
    BEGIN
    DECLARE
    ctx DBMS_XMLGEN.ctxHandle;
    xml CLOB;
    BEGIN
    ctx := dbms_xmlgen.newcontext('select * from scott.emp');
    dbms_xmlgen.setrowtag(ctx, 'MY-ROW-START-HERE');
    xml := dbms_xmlgen.getxml(ctx);
    dbms_output.put_line(xml);
    Fnd_file.put_line (fnd_file.LOG, XML);
    END;
    END;
    END TEST_XMLTAG_PKG;
    this pkg produces the output with xml tag in the view log.
    I have registered the conc program & xml rtf but it does not produce the output in PDF, , I am not able to get the xml tag when i click the Diagnostics --> View XML.
    can you please let me know the next steps involved.
    Regards
    Yram

    I think the problem is because there is no begin and end tag. save the xml from the logfile and open with xml editor or IE.. then you will see the problem.
    add Begin and end tag...then you should be fine.. i.e
    fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.output,'<EMP_DATA>'); -- begin Tag
    tx := dbms_xmlgen.newcontext('select * from scott.emp');
    dbms_xmlgen.setrowtag(ctx, 'MY-ROW-START-HERE');
    xml := dbms_xmlgen.getxml(ctx);
    dbms_output.put_line(xml);
    Fnd_file.put_line (fnd_file.LOG, XML);
    fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.output,'</EMP_DATA>'); -- End Tag
    Hope this helps..>Good Luck

    Hello Chinasammy,
    Report Painter allows you to create reports using data from SAP application components, which you can adapt to meet your individual requirements.
    Many of your reporting requirements can already be met by using the standard reports provided by various SAP application components. If these SAP standard reports do not meet your reporting needs, Report Painter enables you to define your specific reports quickly and easily.
    When executing a Report Painter report, it is displayed by the system in Report Writer format. You thus have access to the same functions as for Report Writer reports defined in the same way, and can combine Report Painter and Report Writer reports together in a report group.
    Report Painter uses a graphical report structure, which forms the basis for your report definition and displays the rows and columns as they appear in the final report output.
    To facilitate report definition, you can use many of the standard reporting objects provided by SAP (such as libraries, row/column models, and standard layouts) in your own specific reports. When you define a Report Painter report you can use groups (sets). You can also enter characteristic values directly.
    Advantages of Report Painter include:
    Flexible and simple report definition
    Report definition without using sets
    Direct layout control: The rows and columns are displayed in the report definition as they appear in the final report output, making test runs unnecessary.
    =============================================
    Below mentioned is the process for creating reports using Report Painter as a tool.
    Selecting and maintaining a library for your report: As the transfer structure to Report Painter you use a report table, which is defaulted by SAP and can not be maintained. This table contains characteristics, key figures and predefined columns. In a library, you collect the characteristics, key figures, and predefined columns from the report table, which you need for your Report Painter reports.
    When you define a Report Painter report, you assign it to a library. Reports assigned to one library can only use the characteristics, key figures, and predefined columns selected for that library.
    When you create or maintain a library, the Position field determines the sequence in which the characteristics, key figures or (predefined) key figures appear in the Report Painter selection lists when you define a report. This allows you to position the objects that you use regularly in your reports at the beginning of the selection lists. If you do not make an entry in the Position field, you will not be able to use this object in Report Painter reports.
    You can use either the standard SAP libraries for your reports or define your own.
    (ii) Selecting or maintaining a standard layout for your report: Standard layouts determine report layout features and the format of your report data.If the SAP standard layouts do not meet your reporting requirements, you can create a new  standard layout or change an existing one.
    (iii) Defining row and column models: A model is a one-dimensional, predefined reporting structure that you can insert in either the rows or columns of your report.If you often use the same or similar row or column definitions in your reports, it is recommended that you create row or column models.
    You must define the row and/or column models that you want to include in your report definition before you define the report.
    You can also use the standard column models supplied by SAP.
    (iv) Defining the report: Defining a Report Painter report involves the following steps.
    (a) Define the report columns: You define the report columns using the characteristics, key figures, and predefined columns selected for the library that the report uses. Alternatively, you can use a column model for column definition. Column models are predefined column structures which you insert into your entire column definition, instead of defining each individual column.
    (b) Define the report rows: You define the report rows using the characteristics selected for the library selected for the report.
    Alternatively, you can use a row model for your row definition. Row models serve the same purpose as column models, but are used to define a report row.
    Edit and format the report rows and columns in line with your requirements. (For example, you can hide rows or columns, define the column width or define colors for your report rows).
    (iii)Define general data selection criteria for the selection of your report data: Selection criteria are the characteristics used to select data for the entire report. You cannot enter characteristics as data selection criteria if they are already being used in the report rows or columns.
    (iv) Assigning the report to a report group: Once you have defined a report, you must assign it to a report group. A report group can contain one or more reports from the same library. However, reports that share the same data will select data more quickly and improve processing time.
    Hopw this helps you. Please let me know if you need anything more and assign points.

    Hi,
    This type of question is almost impossible to answer over a forum .
    You need to work with your business to understand what these requirements mean in terms of data modelling and relationships between object entities.
    - Some of these metrics should be delegated to source, and calculated in the update routines to your datatargets (aka Cubes/Tables)
    - Others could be resolved in the semantic layer (Universe)
    - Other will be calculated in the presentation layer as local formulae or variables.
    whilst BusinessObjects is a fairly intuitive tool, it may be unreasonble to expect a new learner to deliver an advanced report with conditional formatting.
    Regards,
    H
