Reporting Server best practices ...

we are migrating a bunch of reports from reporting services native mode to sharepoint 2013.
Ideally these reports would be accessible (some mutually and some exclusively) between
n number of companies that are supported by the BI IT Department.
There's a number of way that this would work - one would be to have multiple apps; one on each company site...
anyone here would have some literature of best practices and best methods this could be achieved?

In that case, because each user viewing the reports needs permission to the actual item, you'll need to deploy the reports to each unique site.
For security purposes, each customer should have a unique Site Collection. A Site Collection is the security boundary within SharePoint.

  • SQL server Best Practice Analyzer output in .CSV

    Hi Team, I ran SQL server Best practice analyzer on our SQL 2008 R2 server. I was trying to export scan result in .csv format but it is only giving me option to save it in .xml format. I have been looking for ways to export output in such a way
    that it can be readable and I can send it to our clients but no luck.
    How can I export SQL BPA output in .csv or any other user friendly format?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi MSRS27,
    You can run Best Practices Analyzer (BPA) scans either from Server Manager, by using the BPA GUI, or by using cmdlets in Windows PowerShell. We can view or save BPA results from Windows PowerShell session in different format.
    If you want to export BPA results to a comma-separated values (CSV) text file, run the following cmdlet, where Path represents the path and text file name to which you want to save the CSV results.
     CSV results can be imported into Microsoft® Excel, or other programs that display data in spreadsheets or grids.

  • PHP/MySQL Test/Production Server best practices

    Hello,
         I am currently learning PHP/MySql and have setup a test server to develop on and a production server to go live with. I wanted to know what are the best practices for synchronizing the test server with the production. Should I export the database from the test server and import it to the production server each time I make a change or is there better way to incrementally sync the databases. I am using Dreamweaver to design the web site.
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Thanks, but does this mean that after I go live I should make changes on the production database only and not use the development database, if say I need to add a new table or record(s)?
    Procedure
    1. Take production web site down
    2. Export/Save current database
    3. Make changes to production database
    4. Export/Save new database
    5. Bring production web site up
    Is this correct?

  • Crystal Reports - scheduling best practice

    Hello,
    I would like to get some clarity on the best practice for scheduling Crystal Reports in a managed life cycle model. We are on XI 3.1 SP3.
    We have public reports that are scheduled as recurring instances for different daily/monthly reports. Is it ideal that power-users schedule these reports in DEV and then when we move over objects to PROD have the schedule settings carried over? This way in PROD the same reports will have preserved schedule settings. However, what I would like to know is that for this to work I will need to migrate historical instances via Import Wizard which also would bring over any historical instances (with static Dev data) to Prod.
    The other option is to move over just the report objects (schedule settings come over automatically) without the instances, which would mean users will have to set up similar recurring schedules in PROD again?
    Thanks!

    @Guru - so in that case what would the plan be for any future migration that happen from Dev to Prod for the same report(s)? When future migrations overwrite a report object, will the recurring schedule set up in Prod get affected, possibly disappear? Also, how would you recommend handling a situation where the same report has different scheduling properties in both environments -- how to avoid overwriting of schedule properties in Prod with those from Dev when migration the Crystal Report obejcts?
    Thanks!

  • SQL Server Best Practices Architecture UCS and FAS3270

    Hey thereWe are moving from EMC SAN and physical servers to NetApp fas3270 and virtual environment on Cisco UCS B200 M3.Traditionally - Best Practices for SQL Server Datbases are to separate the following files on spearate LUN's and/or VolumesDatabase Data filesTransaction Log filesTempDB Data filesAlso I have seen additional separations for...
    System Data files (Master, Model, MSDB, Distribution, Resource DB etc...)IndexesDepending on the size of the database and I/O requirements you can add multiple files for databases.  The goal is provide optimal performance.  The method of choice is to separate Reads & Writes, (Random and Sequential activities)If you have 30 Disks, is it better to separate them?  Or is better to leave the files in one continous pool?  12 Drives RAID 10 (Data files)10 Drives RAID 10 (Log files)8 Drives RAID 10 (TempDB)Please don't get too caught up on the numbers used in the example, but place focus on whether or not (using FAS3270) it is better practice to spearate or consolidate drives/volumes for SQL Server DatabasesThanks!

    Hi Michael,It's a completely different world with NetApp! As a rule of thumb, you don't need separate spindles for different workloads (like SQL databases & logs) - you just put them into separate flexible volumes, which can share the same aggregate (i.e. a grouping of physical disks).For more detailed info about SQL on NetApp have a look at this doc:http://www.netapp.com/us/system/pdf-reader.aspx?pdfuri=tcm:10-61005-16&m=tr-4003.pdfRegards,Radek

  • Crystal Report layout, best practice

    SAP B1 8.81
    I'm having only spotty success with CR layouts and I've experimented quite a bit. What I'd like to do is extensively modify 1 system Crystal Report and then bring it in as a layout, and apply it to AR Item Quote, Order, DN, Invoice, and Return. Does it matter which system document I start with? After I've got a master layout that works for all, what if I need to add small tweaks to a particular document, say a special field that appears in Invoice headers only? How do I do that? These questions aren't addressed in the 'How to Work with CR in SBO' guide.
    Anybody have some global guidelines they'd like to offer that lead to success?

    Hi Cindy
    We have done what you want to do in 8.8 a number of times.  It also works in 8.81 but we have been having similar login issues that other users have reported.
    You use the ObjectId@ parameter to determine the type of object being printed and use that to suppress fields, sections etc.
    Where there are specific formats required for different object types you can define multiple sections, (eg page headers, group headers, detail lines etc) and show or suppress based on the object type as required.
    This can lead to very messy and complicated reports if there are a lot of differences and so you will need to make a decision as to the tradeoffs between having one huge report which is hard to maintain or a couple of simpler ones.
    Given the load time issues, which seem to be related to the number of subreports etc you might also find some benefit in, for example, having a separate master layout for the documents that dont need to show batches and serial numbers and some of the final details such as downpayments and another layout for documents that need to show everything.  Once again, you need to trade off here.
    We have generally started with the invoice layout as our master since that has everything in it.
    Hope this helps

  • WEBI Report Size Best Practices

    What are some standards (measured in time, records and db size) for the following for WEBI reports on BW Universes -
    1 - when run on demand
    2 - when scheduled to create an instance
    We are looking for some baselines.  For example: <5 mins for on demand and <15 mins for scheduled, etc

    Hi Subham,
    If you are looking for the size of the WID file, you can get this through the InfoObject.
    Please note that this WID file only changes if the WebI document was actually saved.
    Below is a sample code snippet that will retrieve the file size from an InfoObject:
    IInfoStore boInfoStore = (IInfoStore) boEnterpriseSession.getService("InfoStore");
    String query = "SELECT SI_FILES FROM CI_INFOOBJECTS WHERE SI_INSTANCE='false' AND SI_NAME='" + webiDoc + "'";
    IInfoObjects boInfoObjects = boInfoStore.query(query);
    if (boInfoObjects.size() > 0) {
         IInfoObject boInfoObject = (IInfoObject) boInfoObjects.get(0);
         IFiles boFiles = boInfoObject.getFiles();
         IFile boFile = null;
         for (int i=0; i<boFiles.size(); i++) {
             boFile = (IFile) boFiles.get(i);
             out.print(boFile.getName() + ": " + boFile.getSize() + "<BR>");
    } else {
          out.print("No WebI document found!");
    Hope this helps.

  • Apache Web Server best practices

    I was wondering if there are recommendations for using CPS
    with Apache. Obviously the DAV module should be loaded, should ldap
    be loaded as well. Is there significant benefit to having multiple
    accounts on the web server vs. sharing one and limiting access with
    CPS's LDAP?

    Oracle9iAS includes Oracle HTTP Server, which is based on Apache (with quite a few additions and enhancements).

  • Error while Connecting report Best Practices v1.31 with SAP

    Hello experts,
    I'm facing an issue while trying to connect some of my reports from Best Practices for BI with SAP.
    It only happens when it's about info sets, the other ones that are with SAP tables go smoothly without a problem.
    The most interesting is I have already one of the reports connected to SAP info sets.
    I have already verified the document of steps of creation of additional database that comes with BP pack. They seem ok.
    Here goes what Crystal Reports throws to me after changing the data source to SAP:
    For report "GL Statement" one of the Financial Analysis one which uses InfoSet: /KYK/IS_FIGL_I3:
    - Failed to retrieve data from the database; - click ok then...
    - Database connector error: It wasn't indicated any variant for exercise (something like this after translating) - click ok then
    - Database connector error: RFC_INVALID_HANDLE
    For report "Cost Analysis: Planned vs. Actual Order Costs" one of the Financial Analysis one which uses InfoSet: ZBPBI131_INFO_ODVR and ZBPBI131_INFO_COAS; and also the Query CO_OM_OP_20_Q1:
    - Failed to retrieve data from the database; - click ok then...
    - Database connector error: check class for selections raised errors - click ok then
    - Database connector error: RFC_INVALID_HANDLE
    Obs.: Those "Z" infosets are already created in SAP environment.
    The one that works fine is one of the Purchasing Analysis reports:
    - Purchasing Group Analysis -> InfoSet: /KYK/IS_MCE1
    I'm kind of lost to solve this, because I'm not sure if it can be in the SAP JCO or some parameter that was done wrongly in SAP and I have already check possible solutions for both.
    Thanks in advance,
    Carlos Henrique Matos da Silva - SAP BusinessObjects BI - Brazil.

    I re-checked step 3.2.3 - Uploading Crystal User Roles (transaction PFCG) - of the manual where it talks about CRYSTAL_ENTITLEMENT and CRYSTAL_DESIGNER roles, I noticed in the Authorizations tab that the status was saying it hadn't been generated and I had a yellow sign, so then that was what I did (I generated) as it says in the manual.
    Both statuses are now saying "Authorization profile is generated" and the sign is now green on the tab.
    I had another issue in the User tab (it was yellow as Authorizations one before generating)....all I needed to do to change to green was comparing user (User Comparison button).
    After all that, I tried once more to refresh the Crystal report and I still have the error messages being thrown.
    There's one more issue in one of the tabs of PFCG transaction, it is on the Menu one where it is with a red sign, but there's nothing talking about it in the manual. I just have a folder called "Role menu" without anything in it.
    Can it be the reason why I'm facing errors when connecting the report to SAP infoSets? (remember one of my reports which is connected to an infoSet works good)
    Thanks in advance,
    Carlos Henrique Matos da Silva - SAP BusinessObjects BI - Brazil.

  • Best Practice Analyzer database mismatch error

    Hi all,
    I am getting the following critical error when I run the BPA on a couple of our BizTalk servers and wondered if anyone had seen the same?
    "The version of BizTalk Server does not Match the Version of BizTalk Management Database Schemas"
    I am using v1.2 of BPA aagainst a BizTalk 2010 install.
    This has only surfaced since we upgraded from BizTalk 2009 R2 BUT not on all of our environments.
    It does not seem to be causing any runtime issues however as all applications seem to be running fine!!
    Looking at the BizTalkDBVersion tables in SQL everything looks the same on servers which present this error and those that do not i.e. There is an entry for version 3.9.469.0 ... which matches the BizTalk Server version reported in the registry
    at "\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\BizTalk Server\3.0\Product Version\"
    The only thing I can see is that as this was an upgrade there is also an entry in the
    BizTalkDBVersion tables for the 2009R2 version (3.8.368.0), so maybe the BPA is selecting this value and comparing against the regisrty version?]
    However, this doesn't explain why I see this issue on 2 upgraded servers but not the 3rd?
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
    There is no version as BizTalk 2009 R2. v3.8.368.0 refers to BizTalk 2009 (not R2).
    The above error occurred because BizTalk Server Best Practices Analyzer has detected that the version of BizTalk Server does not match the version of the BizTalk Database Schemas. This can happen if the BizTalk database was deleted and then restored
    with an incorrect database.
    Check the version of SQL Server upgraded against the version of BizTalk server.

  • Best Practices v3.31 - SAP InfoSet Query connection

    Hi,
    I have a problem with adapting a Crystal Report from Best Practices for Business Intelligence v3.31 to SAP system. The report "Cost Analysis Planned vs. Actual Order Costs.rpt" is using SAP InfoSet Query "CO_OM_OP_20_Q1". This InfoSet Query is working fine in SAP. My SAP-User has access to the following user groups:
    - /SREP/IS_UG
    - /KYK/IS_UG
    - ZBPBI131_USR
    The Controlling Area in SAP is '1000'. Crystal Reports generates this error message:
    - Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    - Database Connector Error: "Controlling area does not exist"
    - Database Connector Error: 'RFC_CLOSED'
    But InfoSet Query "CO_OM_CA_20_Q1" has no problem with Controlling Area '1000' in Crystal Reports and is working fine in SAP!
    Can somebody help?
    Thanks in advance.
    Peter

    Hello Peter,
    I'm using Best Practices for BI v1.31 and this one also has this report you are talking about.
    I face the same issue when trying to adapt it to my ERP, but if I run it in SAP GUI, it goes smoothly without any issue.
    Please advise,
    Thanks in advance,

  • Best Practice With Work Efficient in Report server

    In SSAS cube I have two different roles:
     - Manager (about 10 people)
     - Salesman (about 43 people)
    Manager has full access to 4 report and salesman has access to 1 report. Totally, it is five report.
    I have the roles and its users in SSAS cube and when I deploy the cube I need to apply all 53 users in the report server.
    I have created two map, named "aa" and "bb" in the index page. The manager has access to "aa" and salesman has acess to "bb". I have moved the document to these map.
    What is the best practice to make right user to have right access to map and document in a efficient approach in report server?

    Hi Sakura,
    In SQL Server Reporting Services, we should verify that sufficient permissions have been granted for the user. At a minimum, we should grant the user the role that support both the "View reports" task and the "View folders" tasks to support viewing and folder
    navigation in SQL Server Management Studio. For more information about system-level permission and item-level permission, please refer to the following document:

  • Crystal Reports Server 2008 - Scheduling Reports Best Practice

    What is the best practice for scheduling a report that will be distributed to approximately 30 recipients? I have uploaded a report that has a single parameter for the physician's name.  I need to distribute this report on a daily basis to each physician using their name as the parameter. Should I right-click on the single report that is uploaded and schedule the report with the corresponding parameter and physician e-mail address, or should I create 30 reports each with the physician's name. Basically, I need a way to see all of the scheduled jobs for a given report? Is this possible in Crystal Reports Server 2008? Thanks.

    The way that I handle all of our scheduled reports is to create the report with parameters to cover all of the necessary variations of the same basic report.  For you, that's be a single report with the doctor's name (or other identifier) as a parameter.  I then create an Object Package (I use BOE, so I'm not positive if CR Server has them, but I'd guess so...) for each variation (doctor in your case), and copy the report into the package.  I then set up the destination and schedule for the package, and set the parameter(s) of the report.  Then, schedule the package to run.
    The advantage of using object packages is that it separates the schedule and distribution from the actual report, so if (or I should say, when :->) the report changes, you don't have to copy the schedule and destination to the new version of the report, saving time and reducing errors.  Just copy the new version into the package, set the parameters, delete the old version, and reschedule the package to run.
    HTH,
    Carl

  • Report server setup best practice info needed -SOLVED-

    Hello, I'm looking for some best practice info on how to set up the report server to handle multiple reports from multiple apps (hopefully in separate directories).
    We are converting forms 5 apps to 10g. Currently reports live in the same dir as the form files, each in their own application directory. Moving to 10g, the report.conf file specifies a reports dir. It does not seem that there can be multiple directories listed in the sourceDir parameter, in order to handle mutiple directories where reports can live. Is it possible to set it up so it can find reports in any of our 20 application directories? Do we have to have only one directory where all reports are served from (if so we'll have an issue, as reports from different apps could be named the same)?
    How have you folks solved this situation?
    Thanks for any info,
    Gary

    Got it working! Thanks to all for your input! I found a reference on Metalink to a known issue with running on Sun Solaris, which was causing me problems.
    Bottom line, here's what I did to get it all working:
    1) Report server .conf file:
    - Comment out sourceDir line in the engine entry.
    - Add environment entries for each app before the </server> line at the end .
    <environment id="prs">
    <envVariable name="REPORTS_PATH" value="(path to dir where reports live for this app)"/>
    </environment>
    - Bounce the server (not sure if this is necessary)
    2) $ORACLE_HOME/bin/reports.sh:
    - Comment out line that sets REPORTS_PATH
    This was necessary for Sun Solaris (the bug as mentioned on Metalink)
    3) The app .fmb that calls the report:
    - Set the report object property to specify the environment ID before calling
    run_report_object():
    set_report_object_property(rpt_id, REPORT_OTHER, 'ENVID="prs"');
    Blue Skies,
    Gary
