Reprinting image with halftone screen

Can anyone point me to a good source on descreening a printed image in order to avoid moiré in a reprint? This seems like a fairly elementary use for Photoshop, but I've found nothing in a search on the various Support pages, nor in the Video Workshop CD for CS3.
My old standby is just to blur the image and then fool around with the Unsharp Mask, but I was hoping someone might have come up with a quicker, niftier way of dealing with the issue.
Thanks very much in advance for any suggestions.
Rob

You need to angle the image in the scanner so you have the least amount of moiré use the descreening function of your scanning software and scan at about 600ppi.
Photoshop has no scanning functions built in so that's why you don't find any thing about descreening in Photoshop.

  • Hdv pixelating image with blue screen

I am rendering interview footage with two people in front of two keyed images. I shot all the footage 30fps on my Sony v1u. When rendering one of the keyed interview images is pixelating for one frame at seemingly random locations. The latest time it happened was when I put a title over it. Once i rendered the title, the keyed image pixelated for one frame. When I did clip disable, the frame pixelation went away. Here is a link to both images. i am editing on a octocore mac pro with a Radeon X1600 graphics card adn 4gb of ram.

You haven't said what your final output is. Is it SD DVD or SD for broadcast or HD for broadcast? The workflow at this point depends on what you need to deliver. I would export as much of a finished sequence as you can, leaving a hole for the blue screen portion to be inserted after you re-import the self contained .mov (converted sequence) back into FC. Make another sequence placing raw over sized clips you need for the blue screen and export(to a self contained .mov) to the same final codec and re-import to FC. Then make a new final sequence and edit in the blue screen media and export to Color.

  • Not clear images with lower screen resolutions on Tecra M5

    Hi,
we have some M5s with Intel graphics board which work fine with the usual 1024*768 screen resolution.
Now we are buying some new M5s equipped with nVidia Quadro, and they seem to have a native resolution of 1400*1050.
If I try to scale resolution to 1024*768 or even 1280*1024, images are badly out of focus. But I think icons at 1400*1050 on a 14" display are really too small, for the average of users.
    No solution?
    thanks

This is to do with the native resolution of the LCD. Unless you display at maximum resolution, any attempt to work at a lower resolution will require the graphics card to rescale, causing the resultant image to blur as the graphics card interpolates.
The only solution is to use Windows Vista because the GUI has been designed for larger native LCD resolutions, meaning the icons are designed bigger (approx. twice the size of XP)

  • Need help with full screen slideshow image quality

I am looking to display some images with full screen slideshow. The images I add are very large, over 5000 wide. When I publish the site some images retain their quality while others lose it and look like crap. Why would this be and how can I fix it. I tried to resize them to the 2560x1707 that muse does, and then add them. This doesn't change the end result of poor quality.

Go to Assets Panel and locate the image you want to use at original size. Right click the image and chose 'Import Larger Size'.
See if that helps retain quality for that image, since Muse does not resize/interpolate that image for you.

  • My iPhone 4S went into lock-up with a screen display image of USB connector pointing to iTunes logo. I took it to a Verizon store and they said I have a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store 50 miles away could clear it

My iPhone 4S went into lockup with a screen displaying an image of the USB connector pointing to the iTunes logo. I was traveling and took the phone to the closest Verizon store. The store informed me that I had a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store could unlock the phone. The Verizon store explained that they have seen this problem with SEVERAL other 4S users who had upgraded to the new iOS7 operating system and that to their knowledge it is too demanding to work on pre-iPhone 5S phones having a far less capable processor. The closest Apple store was 50 miles away in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. I went to that store three days later (today) to reset the phone before flying out of Philadelphia Intl. Airport. The Apple store personnel were overloaded and not sensitive to my plight. They told me that I would have to make a reservation for a time 2 hours later for tech support. I couldn't do that without missing my flight - out of luck until I get back to Los Angeles. If the Verizon store explanation is true, Apple needs to accommodate 4S and earlier generation users and not force them to upgrade to a $459 iPhone 5S!

  • How do I manipulate color after changing an image to halftone with bitmap in Photoshop CS5 and CS6?

    Hi,
I'm just starting to play with turning into images into halftone image. So far I've learned how to do it 2 ways: 1) using the Pixelate>Halftone filter and 2)Converting the image to grayscale then bitmap>halftone. After either technique, I'm a little lost on how to best changel color - not as whole but to convert different section to different colors - kind of Andy Warhold look. I've tried the history brush. I've dragged it into illustrator (which I tried live trace). But I'm not quite getting the flexibility of just painting different areas different colors. Also, what angles work best to avoid strange grid effects?
Any techniques or inside advice would be greatly approciated! Thanks, Andrea

Why not apply the halftone to a duplicate layer, that way, you still retain the colors, you can then allow some or all of the colors to show through, using blend modes, masks or opacity changes.

  • Website with Full Screen Background Images

I'm trying to create a website with full screen background images (or  possibly, a video) that will crop to the browser window. It's also  important that the image be center-justified. The Die Antwoord site does  pretty much what I'm trying to accomplish. I'd also like to know how  they can use such high resolution images. If I try to use a high res  image, the file size is enormous. Another site that uses similar  technology only with a video is the TV on the Radio site.
I  am fairly new to Flash so please forgive me if this is a rudimentary question.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Bob,
    Thanks for your reply.
What I'm concerned about is the crispness of my full-page images. Am I right in assuming with a PDF folio, static images won't be as crisp? Is there a way to maintain its sharpness?

  • Printing Separations with Halftones in Photoshop with SCREEN button has been disabled

I want to start a discussion on trying to reimplement as an addon the SCREEN button in the print output in Photoshop CS5 and up. It's a very important feature for the idustry that I am in.
This is a huge upset for the screen printing industry, as we cannot easily output channels from indesign or illustrator from the file. I use photoshop to print separations for multicolor prints with halftones, and the screen button lets me dcide what lpi/dpi I would output to my postscript printer. I have contacted someone at Adobe, and they have notified in fact that the SCREEN button on the print output options has been removed. I would like to make a petition to get this button back, as I have to upgrade, and I will not be able to use the software for my needs. Thank you.

Unfortunately, your iPad went into recovery mode and must be restored now. There is no getting around this. You need to use iTunes to do this as well. Read this for more instructions.

  • Frozen iPod classic with lock and battery images on the screen

When I unlocked my iPod classic while listening to music, everything stopped, and i got an image on the screen of the time when this happened (6:30), a lock image below it on the left, and a black horizontal battery on the right. The iPod won't work now, whether locked/unlocked or whether connected/unconnected to my PC/iTunes. What, if anything is the fix?

Have you tried just a hard reset yet? To do this, first make sure the hold switch is toggled to the off position, then press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Halftone Screen  & Transparency

I have imported two grayscale TIFF photos (of silhouetted
objects on a white background) into Freehand. I then applied the
"Halftone Screen" round dot pattern each. My problem is: I'm trying
to overlap the two images without the white backgrounds showing --
in essense, I want to apply a "Multiply"-like filter effect (used
in Photoshop/InDesign/Illustrator). The "Transparency" option isn't
working the way I want -- it screens back the halftone images.
Rather, I'm trying to retain the values of the halftone screened
image, while allowing the second image underneath to be visible
(for example, as if you were placing blue acetate over yellow
acetate to creating a green color where the two overlap).
In addition, is it possible to raster or convert a Halftone
    Screened image to vector art?
    Many thanks!

FreeHand doesn't offer much in the way of transparency
    controls for print
production. You can use the 'Transparent' checkbox in the
    object inspector
window. This works best with a 1-bit TIFF. It will convert
    grayscale to
black and white pixels, and you can adjust threshold level by
    using the
levels control -- the icon for the dialog is beside
    Transparent checkbox.
What is the intended output? If it's for printing to a
    Postscript device,
you can set the fill color of the upper image to Overprint.
    The drawback is
that you won't be able to preview the transparency in FH.

If you create a very high resolution image, you can use the
    Trace Tool to
trace it. You'll need about 48 pixels per row of dots. See
    the recent
discussion on this forum titled, "create a dithering with big
    dots (like 6

  • Preflight for Printing Press - Halftone screen - InDesign

Hi, I am publishing a newsletter that will be printed on a digital duplicator. Since this machine is essentially the same as a printing press, the content it scans to make the plate needs to have a halftone pattern on it for the pictures to show correctly, gradients to work right, and all that jazz. I'm fairly new to InDesign and am looking for a way to Export to a PDF or even just to print with a halftone screen applied to my whole document. Help and suggestions, please?
    Thanks!
    Eric

A digital duplicator is essentially the same as a printing press in as much as a microwave oven is essentially the same as a toaster.
There will be no plate made; the device will create the halftone pattern as part of its imaging process. You do not need to concern over creating the halftone yourself.

  • Halftone Screen Printing (Rosette)

    Hey all,
I'm pretty new to prepress / prepping for screen printing, and I need some help.
After MAJOR searching and downloading trials of plugins, I'm stuck in finding out how to get a CMYK separation with halftone dots for printing. We are printing on a clear plastic film, and I was asked to convert a design into a 4-color (CMYK) Rosette screen for the screen printer.
I have tried using photoshop's inbuilt Bitmap to Halftone Screen feature (separating the CMYK channels, then using Image > Mode > Bitmap), but after doing all 4 channels then laying them, I don't get a rosette pattern at all. I have tried using different angles for each separation after googling it and using what was recommended, but with no luck.
All I'm looking to do is separate the CMYK, create the halftone dots, and then export each color into a seperate PDF.
Is Photoshop the answer for this?
All the plugins I've tried trials of only seem to "print" to particular Epson printers, but that's not what I'm after. I just need them exported to a PDF.
Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else ran into this problem using Photoshop's Bitmap settings?
    We are using Photoshop CS6.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!

For the last few years, outputting a halftone screen has become increasingly more difficult than in the past.  For instance, in 1995 I was able to output direct via a hardware Postscript Level 2 RIP in my desktop inkjet printer in Illustrator, Photoshop, Pagemaker...you name it.  Then, Postscript Level 3 was released as third party software RIPs and, not sure when, the ability to output screens was eliminated unless you had a film processor.  Recently, if I'm not mistaken, Adobe discontinued 1-bit halftone screens via Photoshop.  This is troubling when you consider where we were in '95 vs. where we are today.  Outputting a halftone screen now requires a fairly expensive RIP mated to a fairly expensive printer.  I've read where you could ouput to a Postscipt file either out of Illustrator or Photoshop or wherever.  You set the screen parameters when you create the Postscipt file ( Print > Postscript File ) and then open it in Acrobat and print from there.  Silly endless additional steps in a procedure that could be done in one.  If you can, see if you can downgrade to Photoshop CS 5 or whatever version can produce screens.  Or, send the file out to a service provider that can ( still ) output to film.  This is how I understand the current situation.  If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will pipe-in.
