Resetting Voicemail Greeting

I accidentally saved my initial attempt at a 'Custom' voicemail greeting, and now I am unable to record another. Does anyone know how to clear a current custom greeting so that I can simply record a new one? Currently, tapping the 'record' button, does not do anything.
Thanks.

Why don't you just dial your iPhone number from a regular and when the current recording comes on hit *. You should then enter your password. You can do all the things regarding recorded messages from a regular phone and therefore avoid any possible glitches related to any cell phone.
The recording is from AT&T and not from your cell phone.
I have done it this way for the last 8 years and have had no problems.

  • How do I reset (not change) the voicemail greeting?

Exactly as it says on the tin. I want to effectively delete my custom voice mail greeting and have it reset to the default system one. The one that says "Your call has been forwarded to an automatic voice-messaging system. (123) 555-1234 is not available." I tried doing this before and all I could do was record a new one, so I recorded dead air. Is there a way to do this through the settings menu or My Verizon, or do I have to go to the store and have a tech do this?
I looked at the Voice Mail FAQs page, and all it says is something about "Visual Voice Mail":
What happens when I change from Visual Voice Mail to Basic Voice Mail?
When changing from Visual Voice Mail to Basic, all existing messages will be transferred. Your standard greetings will be saved but you will lose custom greetings.
I don't even know what Visual Voice Mail is, or how I would know if I have it or not. I just want to reset the custom greeting but don't know how to do so in the settings menu. I press *86 to go to voice mail, press 2 for personal options, then 4 to record a new voice greeting. Nowhere in the voice greeting menu does it say "to reset your greeting to default, press ___." I don't want to record a new one. I want to get rid of the new one and go back to the factory default. (If you must know why, It's because I hate how my voice sounds on the phone and prefer the computer greeting. I'm not going to ask someone to record a greeting for me either.)
Phone is an LG enV Touch from ca. 2007 (?) or so. It's a non-data plan. Nobody in our family uses smartphones, so no point in using "apps for that." I don't think it's a phone-specific issue either, but a system-wide one, as I had recorded the greeting on another phone I had back in ~2004-5, and it carried through to the "new" one (well, the one I got afterwards, the enV Touch -- I know seven years old isn't exactly "new"). Again, I don't want to change the greeting, per se (as in record a new custom message). I just want to delete the custom one (the dead air, basically) and revert to the default computer message as above.
Can I do this, and if so, how?

    It worked!

  • Iphone 6 is not allowing me to change my voicemail greeting

My old greeting transferred over fine from my old phone but now I want to change it.
If I go to 'voicemail' and tap on greeting, I get 'Greeting fetch failed. Failed to fetch your voicemail greeting from the server'. If I tap 'play' nothing plays. If I hit 'record' it lets me record but won't save the new greeting. If anyone calls me, they get my old greeting.
Also what's up with the visual voicemail.....is everyone supposed to have that because mine says Visual Voicemail is currently unavailable.
    Iphone 6   ios8.02
    Thanks for any help

If it is saying Visual Voicemail is unavailable, then you either have cellular data turned off, since it requires that for VVM, or your carrier needs to reset your voicemail. You need to have cellular data and a signal from your carrier for VVM to work. Otherwise, contact your carrier and have them reset your voicemail account.

  • My friends iphone 5 will not allow them to change their custom voicemail greeting

My friend has his iphone 5 (Verizon) updated to 7.0.3 and is unable to change his voicemail greeting.
When he tries to record a new one and then hits stop, it doesn't actually record it, because he hits play and it plays back the old one.
We've tried these below without any success:
-Switching the greeting to default and then back to custom
-Doing a hard reset of the phone (holding power and home button simultaneously)
-We've tried to dial *86, but when we call we get "Could not complete your call, please try again"
-We've also tried the following steps below (from Verizon)
    =============
    Visual Voicemail
On iPhone, visual voicemail lets you see a list of your messages and choose which ones to listen to or delete, without having to listen to instructions or prior messages.Note: Visual voicemail may not be available in all countries or regions, or may be an optional service. Contact your carrier for more information. If visual voicemail isn’t available, tap Voicemail and follow the voice prompts to retrieve your messages.
Number of missed calls and unheard voicemail messages appears on the Home screen Phone icon.
    Setting Up Voicemail
The first time you tap Voicemail, iPhone prompts you to create a voicemail password and record your voicemail greeting.
    Change your greeting:
1 Tap Voicemail, tap Greeting, then tap Custom.
2 Tap Record when you’re ready to start.
3 When you finish, tap Stop. To review, tap Play. To rerecord, repeat steps 2 and 3.
    4 Tap Save.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

hahaha he really is my friend (he's an older guy that's technologically inept). I'm tech-savy (hence why he asked me), but I was unable to get this working. Thanks for the advice, I've told him to go into a Verizon store.

  • On iPhone 5s, since updating to 8.02, when accessing the phone's voicemail greeting section, the greeting, voicemail and dial pad freezes up. Requires restart of device to regain access to phone app. Greeting section can not be accessed.

    Hello -
I've never had any issues at all with my iPhone 5s. After I ran the IOS 8.02 update, everything seemed fine. Yesterday afternoon (about 8 hours after the update), I went to update my voicemail greeting. So I can open the phone app just fine, use the phone with calls, listen to voicemails, etc., but as soon as I tap the GREETING within the voicemail section, everything in the phone app freezes up. Shutting down and restarting the app does not help. I have to restart the entire iPhone to regain access to the phone app. Interestingly, I can receive a call during this 'freeze' by tapping the ANSWER button during the incoming call. Just can not make outgoing calls, listen to voicemails, etc.
During this freeze, a message occasionally appears stating that the greeting server can not be reached.
    Beyond that, no ideas.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

I am having this issue too.  Have you happened to find a solution?
I can transfer them via airdrop to the computer, but that takes a heck of a long time.

  • How can I set up a default (pre-recorded) voicemail greeting on iphone 4s?

How can I set up a default (pre-recorded) voicemail greeting on iphone 4s?i dont want a custom one with my voice i want the pre-recorded where a lady says my number . how do i get that?

Voicemail is a cell phone carrier function.  Contact your carrier to see if they have this option.  If not, i'm sure you can download a sound file from the internet with a greeting and add your name.  Then play it back on you PC while holding your iPhone near the speaker when recording the greeting to voicemail.

  • Change voicemail greeting wav file name

I know nothing about unity and was wondering the following:
We have a user that set up her voicemail greeting on a phone that had someone elses name, the greeting file has the previous person's name, but the new persons message.
Is it possible to keep the greeting, rename it and use if for the new person, or does it have to be redone?
Also, how do I determine if someone has any voicemail messages that can be saved?

Just look at the subscriber greeting and download the file via the media bar, if you need to use it for other subscriber using the media bar you can upload the file.

  • HT3529 how do I create a voicemail greeting?

how do I set up my new iPhone voicemail greeting?

Where are you located? Are you using a supported carrier for the iPhone? When using unsupported carriers, and even some of the supported carriers, visual voicemail is not supported. Check with your carrier, or you can check this support document for the listed carriers and one of the columns identifies if they support visual voicemail.

  • Wav file for voicemail greeting?

Is there any way to use an audio file (such as wav, etc) for voicemail greeting?

No. Your greeting is on AT&T's servers not your phone. You can play something over the phone to record something to it.

Ask your carrier.  Voicemail is a carrier feature; they may have a way to set a temporary greeting.
