Resolution of episodes on Nano

I'm importing Keynote presentations in to Garageband to save them as enhanced podcasts for students to view my class presentation when they've been absent.
I began exporting my keynote presentations as image files, then entering them one by one in Garageband as episodes to view the presentation on a Nano.
The image on the Nano is square-ish and cuts off the sides of the slides.
At what point in this process do I adjust the resolution so these slides so they work on the Nano and to what resolution do I change them to?
Any ideas?

Podcasts usually use a 300x300 image, but on my iPod instead of cutting them off, it shrinks them to fit (letter boxed). You might have to try this:
Export your images as normal
Create a new 300x300 presentation with a black background
drop all your photos onto the slide navigator of the new presentation (that left side bar thing where all your slides show up)
See if it makes a new slide for each image and places them on the slide.
Hopefully it'll shrink them to fit and letter box them, but if not, then you'll have to do that manually.
Export AGAIN as images, this time you'll have 300x300 versions of your slides.
Hope that works for you.

  • Software update for the iPod Nano 6th Gen

Is there gonna be any software update for the iPod Nano 6th Gen for video playback??

Re: Software update for the iPod Nano 6th Gen
There is already new hardware for the nano (7th Generation) and it would take a hardware modification to put video on the 6th Generation Nano so no speculation was needed, Carl had the correct answer.
My Original iPod Nano received updates beyond it's generation, there is no reason to conclude this would not be possible for other models and generations. Why would the iPod Nano 6G need a hardware modification for video playback? It already can do analog composite video output for viewing slideshows with music and transitions on a TV and can handle full photo resolutions. The iPod Nano 6G seems more than capable from a hardware perspective of video playback, it's just that the screen is tiny small for viewing video realistically for any length of time with comfort. That can be rectified by using the onboard TV out feature, though battery life might be miserable. It has nothing to do with the release of the iPod Nano 7G.

  • Compressor vs episode pro

what would be the benefits, if any, to upgrade to episode pro over compressor?

    Hi,
I've been using both for some time now.
The reason for me is that Compressor don't handle specific settings of MPEG4 H264 for hardware like PS3. For some stupid reason, Quicktime let you compress video files into .MP4 that are compatible with PS3 but Compressor don't have those settings. I've been wondering why Apple made such limitations on Compressor while Quicktime don't have them.
So I use Compressor for iPod and SD resolutions and Episode to create 480p, 720p and 1080p all in .mp4 H264 to be as compatible as possible with most hardware (PS3, Xbox360, mobiles, PMPs, etc.)
I've tried to use the Episode plug-in in Compressor, but it crashes every time for me on some settings.
So I'm stuck of using 2 software while I was dreaming to use only one and hoping for benefits when I'll switch to Snow Leopard.
I've just ordered the Matrox MXO2 Mini Max that has an hardware accelerated compression compatible with the Quicktime plateform. I hope it will help me speed things up.

  • Podcast play problems: 3G MUCH different than 2G

I'm having many problems with my 3G nano:
    1. Create a playlist (not a smart playlist) and fill it with podcasts. Sync that playlist to the nano by choosing it in the Music tab on iTunes. The nano will show that some of its space is taken up, but you won't be able to play the podcasts on the nano. (This could easily be done on the 2G.)
Why is this important? Say you want to create a list of podcast episodes from different podcast feeds and you want to play it in a particular order. I do this frequently when planning to go to the gym or drive and when I don't want to have to choose each episode separately.
It is also important because automatically loading just certain podcasts on an iPod (three episodes of one podcast feed, all of your library of eighty podcasts from another feed) requires this level of loading a playlist since iTunes doesn't let you choose the number of episodes to load independently for each feed. (I know you can tell iTunes to only load checked episodes, but what if you have multiple iPods and want to load different versions on each iPod?)
    2. Load a bunch of podcasts on your nano. Using the on-the-go playlist feature, hold the center button down on a random set of episodes to build an on-the-go playlist. Where is the playlist? The next time you sync the nano, it will be visible in iTunes, but you won't be able to find it anywhere on the nano.
    3. Play just one podcast episode at a time. Any time you go to play a podcast episode, the nano will always play the next episode as well. (I partially solved this by realizing that placing the nano into shuffle mode will prevent this. That's nice. However, many times I want to listen to podcasts in chronological order rather than reverse-chronological order, and the nano won't do that without a playlist, but see #s 1 and 2 above.)
    Help!

  • Software update for the Samsung Charge

I am on my third Charge.......I had a Droid, and a Droid X and loved the Droid X with very few problems. However I have had nothing but problems with my Charge.......each of the charges had the same problem.......I would keep getting a pop up message stating I needed network connection even though I was showing 4 bars.  I could take out the battery and it would work for a while and then I would have to take out the battery again....finally taking out the battery didn't work any more.  I am in a 3G area so when I went in to the Verizon store it worked for them......so I left then it dawned on me that in the store we were on 4G......do I went back in and sure enough on 3G it did not work.  They went through all the check points with their tech and sure enough nothing worked and so ...my third phone!
All this to ask "When are we gettiing an update for the Charge?  We pay a lot of money for these phones and I expect them to work......at least timely bug fixes!!!  We do not have a land line so it is important that my phone works in a dependable manner and considering the cost I don't think that is asking too much!
Does anyone know when an update is coming out for the Charge?

  • Choppy video streaming with Netflix on ATV2

    Greetings!
I have had an issue streaming Netflix since about December 22nd. Prior to that, streaming had been just fine. At about that time, though (partway through the day, and partway through an episode of season 2 of Doctor Who), all my streams started displaying a strobing effect. The video quality is sharp, but the video framerate is reduced substantially. It is consistent and steady.
I have tried logging in and out, restarting the ATV2, and switching between wired and wireless network. I can watch the same video on my Xbox 360 (streaming through Netflix) without the same problems, though it is possible that the picture is slightly less sharp. None of this is HD content (though the higher resolution first episode of the season showed fine).
Are there any tricks to fixing this? Is this a known issue? I'm hoping there's a setting somewhere that'll tell the ATV to better tell Netflix an appropriate bitrate.
    Thank you,
    -Joel

  • GenSplash theme for 1024x768 ONLY

Hi all, I've been cooking a gensplash theme for linux beautification's sake , and i'm pretty happy with it now so i tought about sharing it with you. Please note that this theme is only for 1024x768 /(standard resolutions, no 16:9) and will look odd in other resolutions.
HOW TO (FOR THIS HOW TO, I ASSUME YOU ALREADY HAVE A WORKING GENSPLASH, if not see this http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gensplash):
ATTENTION!!! MUST BE RUN AS ROOT.
1 - If you want first backup your original darch directory. Copy file http://files.myopera.com/spookykid/Artw … 24x768.cfg to /etc/splash/darch/1024x768.cfg
    wget http://files.myopera.com/spookykid/Artwork/Splash_Screens/1024x768.cfg
    cp 1024x768.cfg /etc/splash/darch/1024x768.cfg
    2 - Copy file http://files.myopera.com/spookykid/files/linux_mod.png to /etc/splash/darch/images/background-1024x768.png
    wget http://files.myopera.com/spookykid/files/linux_mod.png
    cp linux_mod.png /etc/splash/darch/images/background-1024x768.png
    3 - Copy file http://files.myopera.com/spookykid/albu … /linux.png to /etc/splash/darch/images/verbose-1024x768.png
    wget http://files.myopera.com/spookykid/albums/359872/linux.png
    cp linux.png /etc/splash/darch/images/verbose-1024x768.png
4 - Edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst file and change your "kernel" line on "video" to video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-32@60 if you don't already have it will set your boot resolution to 1024x768!
    nano /boot/grub/menu.lst
    5 - Update geninitramfs
    splash_geninitramfs -v -g /boot/fbsplash-darch-1024x768 -r 1024x768 darch
    6 - Run  mkinitcpio -p <your_kernel_name> eg: mkinitcpio -p kernel-fallen
    7 - Reboot and enjoy!

OK, it's your theme, so your decision.
When I was using gensplash, I also created a theme for 1024x768 only. I just omitted images and .cfg files for any other resolutions, and put it in it's own dir under /etc/splash. It was therefore possible to change between my theme and any others by just changing the boot parameter.
You've already stated that yours is for 1024x768 only, so users have no reason to expect other resolutions.

how can i add videos, movies and tv shows episodes to my ipod nano?I want to know whether i can directly add them through my pc or not without downloading them from i tunes store?

Yes, you can add your own videos to iTunes, then sync them to your nano, subject to supported max resolution limit and file type.  The specs for the 7th gen nano says (I don't know which nano model you have), Video Format Support
"H.264 video: 720 by 576 pixels, 30 frames per second; Baseline, Main, and High-Profile level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 256 Kbps; 48kHz; stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 Mbps, 720 by 576 pixels, 30 frames per second; Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 256 Kbps; 48kHz; stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats"
    http://www.apple.com/ipod-nano/specs.html
(earlier nanos have lower max resolution limits)
So, "HD" video is too high resolution, so iTunes will not sync such videos to the iPod (although they play in iTunes).  If you are asking how to set up iTunes to sync videos in general (regardless of source), please post back.

Adjust the resolution of your images to 176 x 132 before importing them into Garageband. To prevent distortion, first create a blank image of this size: then open one of your images, and adjust its size so that the height is 132 and the width is in proportion. Copy: paste into the blank image and adjust so that the width is cropped as you want.

    Hello Lisa,
Double check your iPod's sync settings from under it's TV Shows tab in iTunes.  Make sure it is not set up to sync only unwatched episodes.

With the new nano, I can select and play a podcast, but when it’s over, it goes straight to the next one without prompting.  It keeps on playing all of the episodes of any podcast until you stop it manually.  Setting the repeat function differently does not prevent episodes from being played automatically.
This can be very irritating when I only want to listen to one podcast.  I’ve often fallen asleep listening to one episode of a podcast, only to be woken up hours later by the iPod working its way through all subsequent episodes.  It is also annoying that any podcast which has started automatically in this way is marked as ‘played’ – even if you stop it within a few seconds.  This makes it hard to keep track of what you have actually listened to.
Is there any way to set the iPod to play all the podcasts individually? I have read the User Guide from cover to cover, and can’t find a way of doing this.

    Dude or hot-spur,
Not fishy at all!!!! You really think I would have taken any more of my time to post a bogus rant? We'll no, it is unfortunately all true. I want to hear from anyone who is experiencing such problems not anyone else that wants to put there two cents in. I really don't need anymore hate or negativity. Just people's experiences because I feel like I am the only one having so many problems. Thank you
Yes, I have had some unfortunate bad luck to have so many problems at the same time, but some of them are just things you cannot do on the new OS.
    Thank you again
