Resolving hostnames via 2504 controller

Good Evening,
I've just installed a 2504, upgraded the firmware so that 3602i ap's can attach. As a test I left the network open and am running dhcp from the 3560 switch. Why am I unable to ping or connect to a device by name within the same subnet on the "wired" network? There's no DNS server.
Any input or opinions are helpful

Hi,
Not sure if i have got your requirment correct here :-(
But if you need to resolve a name to ip address (same subnet or different subnet) you need to some name resolution server like a DNS server.
Please be aware that hostnames you assign to the devices are local to that device and it doesnot help in name resolution. In order for you to fully qualified names to be resolved to ip address you need to have a DNS server.
Hope that helps.
Regards
Najaf

  • Cant Connect Cisco AIR-CAP 3602 with 2504 controller

Im trying to have one of our APs join our controller. No matter what I do, i cant get it to join the controller.
The controller has the right OS, I had to upgraded it 7.4 to support the 3600...
Both the controller and the AP has the same time and date.
But Im getting this from my AP:

  • IMP: Cisco AIR-CAP1602 &1532 not joining 2504 Controller issue

Dear Team, We have Cisco wireless implementation in clients premises. We have 8 indoor AP (AIR-CAP1602E-AK9) and 2 Outdoor AP (AIR-CAP1532I-AK9) . Seven indoor APs are able to join the 2504 controller, but 1 indoor AIR-CAP1602E AP is not joining and signal is RED continuously while as outdoor AP AIR-CAP1532I-AK9 signal goes blinking from green, red to amber continuously and is not downloading LWAPP image from the controller even after hard reset.
The output for both APs shown below-

  • Using VM Console via App Controller issues

    Hi,
We are using self signed certificate for App Controller. We have deployed set of VM's in cloud.
When a new user from different domain or non domain users logs in to app controller, every time he opens the VM via console it asks for credentials, and shows the certificate is not trusted. When the user installs the certificate ,he gets connection lost
to VM. Because of this many users are not able to access the VM's via app controller. is there any fix to this? This problem varies from users some can access, some cant. 98% of the people cant access.

This is apparently by design. See my question and Microsoft answer here:

  • LMS 4.2 discovery does not resolve hostname

    Hi,
I'm trying automatic discovery with Ping on sweep module. I'm using the following configuration (you can also see it in the attached file):
discovery module - ping on sweep
    global seed device - 192.168.6.35
preferred DCR display name - DNS resolvable hostname
The LMS server has its hostfile populated with the device ip/hostname that i'm testing with and resolving from the server works in both directions. Nevertheless, after discovery proccess is finished, the device is added in DCR with its IP address as dispaly name (screenshot in the attached file).
I've tried the same method in CiscoWorks 4.0.1 and it works fine.
I'm attaching the debug log files from discovery test. The LMS is running on Windows Server 2008 standard

  • Rmi cant resolve hostnames in j2sdk1.4.1_05

We have a wireless app which is hosted on Wavelink using j2sdk1.4.1_05 . The wireless app uses rmi to perform a lookup on a remote object , and if the url uses a hostname address to refernce the remote object address we get a notbound exception. However the Naming.lookup works fine when using an ip address to reference remote object address . The remote object is always bound to a running rmi registry so Im confused why I get this exception.
On our web app we use j2sdk1.4.2_06 and we dont get any problems resolving hostnames. I havent been able to find any refernces to this bug anywhere and where the fault lies. I would be grateful if someone could post a link or explain where the fault lies in j2sdk1.4.1_05.

According to the release notes, "1.4.1 is intended for use on the Solaris 7, Solaris 8, and Solaris 9 Operating Environments".
ie. it shouldn't work. Unfortunate that the error message you were getting was misleading -- but are you sure it came from Sun's java? (that truss output should show exactly which process printed that message)
For me, 1.4.1 does indeed run on 2.6, e.g.
    (5.6)$ java -version
    java version "1.4.1_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_06-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_06-b01, mixed mode)
Not that I'd use 1.4.1, I'd go with a current version... (of the OS and the JVM 8-)
    Hope that helps

  • Markers - Can I trigger looped marker sections via MIDI controller?

This is kind of a multi-part question:
I know that I can set up key commands to toggle between various markers, but can I set up a group of MIDI controller buttons so that each one represents the 1st marker, the 2nd marker, the 3rd marker, etc., etc. of whatever project/song might be loaded?
Pending that answer, is there a way to set up each marker as its own looping section (without manually changing the cycle section)? Logic makes it very inviting to write/record over looped parts, and I would love to be able to toggle between each looped section of a project, via MIDI controller hardware, for a more intuitive way to both write additional parts for each song section, as well as compose more fluid sequences and experiment with different arrangements without having to drag everything around in the arrange window. I figured that using markers would be a way to do this, since I am under the impression that I can already have the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. mapped out to MIDI controller buttons/triggers. I am hopeful that the trick can be accomplished with cycle automatically being associated with each marker section . . .
Thanks for your time, and your assistance/suggestions!

You can assign buttons to control key commands by opening the key command set-up window. Navigate to the key commands you wish. You don't need to assign an actual key command for this to work, by the way. Highlight the appropriate key command (go to marker number X in your case). At the bottom left is the 'learn new assignment' button, press it and then press a button on your keyboard. Repeat for all desired key commands.
If you type 'marker' into the search box of the key command window, you will notice a key command a few spaces up from the 'go to markers' that is called 'set locators by marker and enable cycle' - to jump to this cycle just hit play, even if it's already in play it'll jump as long as you have 'play from cycle' selected in your play button options (which it is by default). Then press record and it will be recording.
There are several other key-command strategies that end up with the same result. So explore the options to find out what works for you. Since you can only assign one key command to a button, you do have to press several buttons (select marker, set loc. at marker, play, and then record).
You could rig up a little system in the environment that splits and converts cc messages so that pressing cc24 spits out 24,25,26 which are all assigned to different key commands. So one button kicks out 3 key commands this way. It's not too complicated to set up, but you need to pay attention to what is assigned to what or else you'll end up with a spaghetti pile of confusing assignments. Start with the easy 4 button method to make sure this is actually accomplishing what you want - who knows, maybe you will discover a key command combo that takes a step or two out. Then you can take a look at combining and simplifying.

  • Kerberos problem (cannot resolve hostname)

We are now trying to setup Xserve G5 cluster computer system (1 head node and 6 cluster node) with OS X 10.4.3, and having trouble with Kerberos.
Head node has two network addresses: one is static IP address of our university (en0), and the other is 192.168.1.1.(en1) Cluster node has static IP addresses from 192.168.1.2 to 7. We put the name of the head node (computer1.company.private) and the cluster nodes (computer2 to 7.company.private) and their IP addressees in the file of both head node and cluster node (/etc/hosts).
    192.168.1.1 computer1.company.private computer1
    192.168.1.2 computer2.company.private computer2
We also set the HOSTNAME entry in /etc/hostconfig to (computer1.company.private).
Command 'Hostname' returns correct name computer1.company.private.
Then we tried to configure computer1.company.private as an Open Directory master. However, KDC did not start, and realms was the number related to the static address of our university (xxx.xx.xxx.vlan.xxx.net, not 'COMPUTER1.COMPANY.PRIVATE’)
Command 'slapconfig -kerberize diradmin both 'COMPUTER1.COMPANY.PRIVATE' and xxx.xx.xxx.vlan.xxx.net, both returns 'cannot resolve hostname'.
We would appreciate it very much if you could give us kind comments and suggestions.
    XserveG5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

We also set the HOSTNAME entry in /etc/hostconfig to
    (computer1.company.private).
    Command 'Hostname' returns correct name
    computer1.company.private.
Looks like they did that already, which makes me think the DNS is not setup properly. Remember that OS X uses a round robin approach to DNS servers listed. So if you have an internal only DNS, and you put in an external only DNS server in your list. You can and will sparadic DNS related kerberos failures. Especially if it is this way on your head machine.
Sometimes one failure will cause total failure. Also if you do not setup the host name and DNS before you try to kerborize, you can cause issues, so squence of events is very important.

Well that is too bad.  Maybe ask the company whom you bought the WLC or if you have a Cisco SE to provide you with the code. The only other option is to return it and order the WLC with v8.0, but you will be stuck on that not so good code. The 2504 w/5 AP license, you can find a SMB smartnet for cheap that can give you access to the image download. It's really up to you, but the v8.0 that is currently out is the first version and... well, do I have to say more. I won't use that version, and my customers whom have had to go with that version because of access point support is not too happy to say the least. When the newer version comes out, they will have to upgrade.

  • SSID/VLANs for Guest/Staff with 3600 and 2504 Controller

We are deploying 3600 AP's with a 2504 and would like to create multiple SSID's that are mapped to unique VLANs so we can control the traffic at the Firewall.  We have the 2504 up and running with AP's but there appears to be no where in the 2504 controller Web GUI to configure a VLAN mapping to an SSID.  Any pointers to documentation on how to configure?

in the WLAN configuration, you select what interface you want it to be linked to.
In the Controller Tab, on the left, go to interfaces.  This is where you create teh interface name, set the VLAN,and the IP address.

  • Satellite A210-133: How to install Intel or via usb controller on windows 7

    Hello!
I have a toshiba satellite a210-133 which i have upgrade it to windows 7 32 bit version.
Everything have been installed fine, but i have an intraoral machine which is connected with usb and it does not work properly.
I have questioned the manifacture of the machine and they told me that it wants Intel or VIA USB controller to work properly.
so i look at my computer\manage and i saw that
i have not have this controller.
Can you help me about it??

    Hi mate
To be honest Im not quite sure what USB controller you mean exactly.
The notebook supports common USB 2.0 ports.
The Win 7 provides own Microsoft USB drivers which controls this USB 2.0 ports.
If the USB ports dont work correctly, then you should check if you need to install the chipset driver.
Usually such chipset driver can be found on chipset manufacturer page.
As far as I know the notebook uses the AMD M690V chipset (code name RS690MC + SB600)
    So check this.
Furthermore many 3rd party USB devices needs an own driver.
I dont know if you intraoral machine needs such drivers but I think that the manufacturer of this machine should know this. So if you need such driver, please get in contact with the intraoral machine manufacturer to get such software.

  • 2504 controller died

Anyone ever had an online 2504 controller crash after upgrade to the point where even console port does not put anything out? Perfectly working 2504 running 7.0.116 ran upgrade through web GUI to 7.2. GUI showed perfect transfer, save etc... Asked for save before reboot. Select yes. Controller reboot and now it sits with following status lights:
    Power-green
    SYS - amber blinking
    ALM - amber solid
    Nothing out of console
    Thx //art

Thanks! I've done many up and down on different platforms and I would have bet a paycheck on consistent upgrades.....until now. Even when you use the wrong software, bad transfer...these devices tell you. This one told me everything was good up until it said you need reload. Save and reload and it never came back. NOTHING on console. Never seen that before.
Thanks again Scott. Appreciate your support in this community.

  • Config storage confusion 2504 controller with CAP702I

    HI all,
I've been tasked with the rollout of the above mentioned hardware, and I've managed to get so far, but it seems I cannot do a 'copy running-config startup-config' on the CAP702I Aironet access points.
ive got then registered with the controller and radios turned on but the problem is that it the power is cycled the radios turn off, I can SSH into each AP and manually turn them on and it works all fine except I shouldn't need to do that.
If anyone could give me a clue as to how to change the ap config to either store the config with radios enabled on restart on the device itself or guide me through storing the config on the 2504 controller and pointing to it on the ap devices for their startup, it would be much appreciated.

So simply wireless clients are not getting ip address from the DHCP scope defined for them on AD DHCP server.
few  facts about DHCP handling on WLC:
    - With DHCP proxy enabled , the controller acts as relay agent.
Simply you configure primary or may be secondary DHCP server under the interface config.
When the client starts the DHCP process the controller will rekay the clients DHCP packets
    in unicast form.
    - With DHCP proxy disabled , the controller will not intervene at all, and the client traffic will be sent
as broadcast. If the DHCP server is on different VLAN , you have to configure relay agent under the gateway
of the client vlan so that it can reach the DHCP server.
Please make sure to rate correct answer
