Response.sendRequest() question

Hi,
My question concerns, the sendRedirect method of the response object. In one of my jsp's I have an if statement that sendRedirect's to another page if it evaluates to true. The odd thing that occurs is when it is supposed to redirect, the rest of the page seems to get read as well and only after the whole page is read, does the redirection occur, consequently getting errors for objects that are null. I don't recall having a problem like this with others web apps that use the redirection. Is this a bug or some coding error I've overlooked.

You need to commit the response after you call sendRedirect method, e.g. by calling flushBuffer.
Even though, you are maybe trying to do forward instead of redirect. Redirecting the response you lose the request data, because client gets another URL in the HTTP header and the browser then sends another request to the new URL, thus losing the form data.
Use ServletRequest.getRequestDispatcher().forward(ServletRequest,ServletResponse) instead.

What could be causing my multiple response survey question to show a non-response in LMS report?

I have a 10 question survey that has been running fine and providing accurate responses in reports generated from my LMS. I made a property change to a multiple response type question that is now causing the reports to show a date/time (2003-01-01 18:00:00) response instead of the actual multiple responses the user made. The change I made to the question was to change the "Numbers property from" [ a), b), c) ] to [ 1), 2), 3) ]. This property change did not affect the reported responses for the single response questions, only the multi-response. This problem occured Using Captivate 4. I then tried using the same properties in Captivate 5.5 thinking it was a bug in CP4, but got the same results. Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm going to bring this to the attention of my LMS provider, but want to make sure CP is clean first.

First things first. I am not an LMS expert, so this is not about troubleshooting.
However, to ensure that your course works fine on a SCORM-compliant LMS, you can upload it to cloud.scorm.com and test it out. If the course works fine there, rest assured that it will work fine on any SCORM-compliant LMS. If your LMS team comes back with an issue after this, you can counter them with this evidence that the problem is with the LMS and not your course.

No Response to Questions

I have written 2 posts and 2 replies in regard to my Compaq Presario Laptop computer. I have had no response to any of them. My patience is being stretched. I tried the customer care centre to no avail. The stupid robot wanted me to book in the computer for repair. It doesn't need repair, it's brand new.
The problem is, it is a badly designed computer. The touch pad has this sensitive spot on the right hand side of the touch pad for turbo scrolling. I just want to know if there is a way of turning it off. If I can't turn it off, I will have to put it up for sale and buy a better designed computer.
If you want feedback from me, I'm afraid it's all negative. The worst service I have ever experienced. You are not to be recommended to anyone anymore.

Request-response topic questions

Hi all,
I'd like to know if the following is possible:
� Could I configure a request-response topic having several subscribers?
� If the answer to the last question is affirmative, could I configure a selector (a filter) on those subscribers to get a response only from one of them? (i know i could use directly a queue to receive a synchronous response from a determined destination, but my doubt is related with topics)
� if the answer is affirmative again. What happens if several subscribers respond to a message?

I don't understand the last phrase, could you give more details? I'll try to explain question 2 again to make sure i am understood (english is not my native language).
- Suppose I have several subscribers for a determined topic, each with its own filter.
- Suppose I send a message on that topic.
- Suppose only one of the subscribers receives the message (its selector doesn't filter the message)
- This subscriber responds, and I receive a response from it.
- The rest of the subscribers doesn't receive any response at all.
Could you confirm this steps?

Responsive design question

I know how to center my edge on the browser. But what I wanted is to have an animation of door closing/opening like, for each page. So you click on the navigation menu and the door closes and opens and behind is your page. I want that door opening be responsive and opens all the way based on the browser size. But I want to keep my whole layout the same size (no scaling, since it is complicated). I tried many things with no success.
Any tip?

Could you upload the Edge files os we can get a better idea of what you are trying to accomplish?
Depending on what you are trying to do, you could put the "closing" animation at the end of each "page" and have the door opening in the bginning of each "page"...

Handwritten letter to Adobe elicits no response. Questions too hard for them? Apparently so. I know what the problem is! no one knows what to do with a real hand written letter.

There are two ways to back up to an external HD. "Copy to ext hd" and " backup to ext hd". When a person buys a new computer, and loads his pse elements 10 program into it, which backup is used to restore his catalog. I am one of the rare people who actually uses the organizer so I want that restored as well.
This is one of the questions I wrote adobe about but the only one I am waiting for so I can go ahead with a restore. I cannot use pse until . In my opinion adobe has failed miserably in the area of the BU and restore function. Big UI issue here.

Premiere Elements 10 is now 64 bit, but not PSE10.
Take a look at your scratch disk set-up and if you have a spare volume, allocate that first before the C drive. Elements use scratch disks when it gets low on RAM.

Responsive layout question

So i'm try to get this div <div id="maindiv" class="maindiv_scroll"> of this page http://www.milesfunerals.com/nafd.php sit inside the two gold bars, 'navbar' and 'sidebar' when the browser window size is reduced down to 1200px but larger than 680px. I just don't seem to be able to get the text to sit in the middle of these to elements. Can anyone please put me out of my misery?

I'm not sure what you want, but you can do this to push the element up:

But then you still see the background shining through!

Possible to edit an RFx question once it is Open for Response?

We have an RFP that is currently in the Open for Response phase, and our buyer would like to make some edits to a few questions. Is this possible? I could not find anyway to do this.

Hi Matt -
Unfortunately, once the RFx is open for response, the questions cannot be changed. The user may have to duplicate the RFx and make the changes in the copy. Alternatively, if the adjustments to the questions are small and clarifying in nature, you could consider using the discussion thread on the question to provide additional information about the question to the suppliers.

Data Gathering Application - Architecture Question

I'm working on revising an existing application that's used to collect data gathered by users from various sources (various computer systems, paper files, discussions/interviews with other employees, etc.) which is then used for analysis and reporting of level of compliance with mandates at various levels (overall, location, individual).
The existing application gathers data via two basic form types: one is for a specific individual having multiple data points; the other is for everyone in the location with multiple data points. For example, type 1 looks like:
Person
Question 1 Response 1
Question 2 Response 2
Question N Response N
While the Type 2 form looks like:
Location
Person 1 Question 1 Question 2 ... Question N
Person 2 Question 1 Question 2 ... Question N
Person N Question 1 Question 2 ... Question N
The questions are grouped by types of information being analyzed, so that those questions appear on different pages and may apply to different sets of individuals or locations. Not all locations are required to gather information on the same questions, depending on their compliance level last year. So, location A may have to answer questions 1, 2 and 3, while location B may answer questions 1, 3 and 4.
My question is this: The table used to store the data is structed like:
Person ID, location, page, q1, q2, ..., qN
To continue the above example of locations A and B, both locations would store the responses in columns q1, q2, and q3 since they had three questions that applied to them. We can then reconstruct which question the response applies to by checking which questions applied to the location. We're using the apex api in the query to generate select-list items for the questions with the valid responses for each question (some are yes/no, others allow NA, a number 1-3, or a typed-in positive integer for a couple of questions).
Since we need to maintain the data from two forms (either for an individual or for all individuals at a location), would it be easier to maintain in APEX using a table that stores each question in a separate row?
PersonID, location, Page, question, response
Further, we want to simplify the application which currently uses a separate page for each item type which is customized to the max number of questions for that page for the year. Instead we want to make a more generic set of pages that can at least handle an arbitrary number of items or, ideally, however many questions may be applicable in the future. While we can assume that the practical upper limit would be 30 questions, in the future it is possible we could be mandated to ask several times that number, maybe 100 or more.
The main goal is to make the application robust to handle the questions consistenly, no matter how many are defined for a type and no matter how many are required for the selected individual or location.
I'm already working on the page simplification process by replacing literals with session-state and application items, and realize that to make the pages robust we'll have to convert from static queries to generating the query from plsql using generic columns for the report in APEX.
If anyone could share their thoughts/experience with this type of application, your input is greatly appreciated.

I find it bad practice to make a table PersonId, location, page, q,q1 .. qN
it will do more harm in analysing the data than you will benefit in collecting the information.
In my opinion you should normalize it a bit more. Seperate table for Person, with it's attributes. and if it is a 1 to 1 relation, also an locationId. Then a seperate table to hold the location information. Then you are having questions and awnsers. based on compliance level of the location persons may answer these questions. So in my opinion, youre location-table will have an attribute 'compliance_level' and in the question table also an attribute, like minimum compliance level. so this could be an criteria for showing questions or not.
To register the answers done bij a person, also an awnser-table will be nesseccary, with relation to the specific question and the personId who answer it. Because of the 1 to 1 relation between person and location, this information does not have to be registerd with the anwsers.
so in short:
5 tables =>
Person (id, name, locationId, etc. )
Location (id, locationName, complianceLevel)
Question(id, quetion, minCompliance)
Anwser(id, questionId, personId, answerId)
In order to create these forms, i guess a master-detail form will be in place. where for one master (person in this case), the details can be shwon (question) in a tabular form with input for the answers.

JMS distributed queue on response

I have an ALSB business service sending requests to a distributed JMS queue and getting a response back from a distributed JMS queue using the correlation ID correlation pattern.
This approach seems to work just fine in my tests, but the ALSB documentation seems to indicate I must use the MessageID correlation pattern when using distributed queues.
My other coworkers seem to think this technique wont work as volumes increase. They say the business service is actually "pinned" to a specific physical response queue member in the distributed queue. If responses happen to go to a different member, the business service wont pick up the response.
Question: Is this a supported technique?
If not, is it correct to say one might use distributed queues for requests but should always specify physical queues for the response?

If you refer to distributed queue for topic based messaging, then correlationId is the right approach. If you are using a clustered JMS server, messageId is the right approach.

I am working on a new Architect Community column for Oracle Magazine. To date, these columns have been based on responses to questions I send by to selected members of the community. But starting with this new column I want to expand that conversation to the broader community.
This new column will focus on microservices. I'm interested in your responses to the following questions:
What aspects of microservices will be the most attractive to those now working with SOA?
What aspects of microservices will the most problematic for those now working with SOA?
How much of an effect will the microservices concept have on software architecture in 2015?

What aspects of microservices will be the most attractive to those now working with SOA?
I think, Microservices are the kind of SOA, we always were talking about for the last decade. We already introduced service categories and the concept of private services in classic SOA. So if you did SOA “right”, then you are pretty much there, where Microservices want to bring you tomorrow. Maybe, Microservices add a bit to the category concept, defining a service over all application layers, e.g. including the UI. In a classical SOA you only have this, when you go for this kind of service abstraction. So, people doing already SOA may gain a kind of new freedom, when extending to Microservice ideas: in the heart of Microservices there is the idea of technology independence: nobody has to implement 10 years in old technologies anymore (like Struts(JSP), but can switch for the next MicroService to a modern technology and maybe modernize the old services over time. Benefit is the clear separation of concern and the knowledge that changes will only effect the own environment. For cloud of course, the container concept is interesting. Maybe classical SOA is more platform driven at that point: so again, more freedom is possible for choices in all dimensions.

Plattforms are one point, like SOA Suites from all vendors. With the MicroService idea you could have your own container for each service, which is very interesting from a licensing perspective and maybe only feasible with free containers or new and cheap cloud offerings. Another point is the UI in classical environments. Normally you have a UI integration strategy and have to use a consistent technology to offer UIs to the enduser. With Microservices you probably need another strategy here.
How much of an effect will the microservices concept have on software architecture in 2015?
Big one, I think. Cloud is gaining more momentum, which enables the need for more modular concepts. Not the single used technology is most important, but solving a specific business need. I like the idea of Microservices to focus completely on the business case and make this a deployable for a separate runtime container. This allows developers to use the best available technology at a point in time and always pick the best. Of course, drawback is the zoo of technologies you get then. But handling this maybe better than working with dead old software frameworks.

Hi, I have a question about CISCO 1841 router.

I have 4 devices which are named 1841.
But, I have trouble handling these..
To help my question, I suppose that router's name is set A, B respectively.
A (DCE) ------- (DTE) B (slot0 ,1 --> WIC-1T)
Now, I connected routers upper contents.
But WIC-1T's CONN LED does not shining...
I did below following steps...
1. I did commands in the routers : no shutdown, encapsulation ppp, clock rate 115200 (In this case, I designated at DCE)
2. Change another cable which was NEW one.
3. Change another router (Of course WIC-1T is put in)
I really don't know what can I do...to perform it.....

Moving all files back to Google Drive due to lack of response

Due to the utter lack of response to my syncing issues with Creative Cloud Desktop, I am now forced to move all of my files back to a more reliable solution (Google Drive). I have given your company every opportunity to respond to this issue before I posted this message, but the complete dismay of this known syncing issue has left me no other choice.
As a long term client of Adobe and Macromedia for over 15 years, I cannot believe that you have chosen not to respond to this issue. I felt brushed off from your live chat department, considering I spent over two hours trying to resolve the issue with them and they just kept passing me to different departments. To make matters worse, the last individual I spoke to advised that the issue would be escalated because it is a known issue and there was no resolution. I then received an email stating that my issue was resolved and therefore the case was closed. This was completely untrue. I cannot still sync files from my desktop to the cloud. It appears the live chat operator just didn't want to have an open case (which would look bad for him), so he closed the case after we ended the chat. I still receive several error messages that I have repeated to your team multiple times.
I then re-opened the case and filled out a survey expecting a response. No response at all! I have now posted three messages in this message board and no response at all.
I am sorry that I have to post this message, but I have given your company every opportunity to respond, but nothing.
With that said, I now will be moved my team's files back to Google Drive.

Gcoiro, I am also very disappointed with the live chat service. I spent over 2 hours trying to communicate with a live chat rep, and it became evident that the rep wasn't even reading my responses and questions during the conversation. Rather than try to make robots seem more human... let's try and make our humans seem less robotic, Adobe.

I doubt there's a way to get those in charge to change their minds, but it boggles the mind that you could get enough data to totally cancel a program like this in the first month and a half of launching a pre-release version of the application. The reactions of everyone I've heard from is total shock on this. Just about everyone I've had contact with thought ROME had a lot of potential.
I'm sure the vast majority of your potential user base never even heard of ROME before it was canned... A real shame...
