Restore comments in iweb

hello,
i seem to have lost all my blog comments on my .mac published site. i have a saved "domain" file with all my old comments still showing when i open it but when i try to re-publish to .mac it still shows 0 comments on all my blog entries. is there a way to re-publish my old comments, i really enjoyed having them.
my site is www.adambeldycki.com pointed to http://web.mac.com/adamski007
warm regards,
adam

I'm afraid that your comments have been lost. There is an interplay between your site and some resources on the .Mac server that makes the commenting system work. Your comments are served from the .Mac servers and rendered with your site pages on the fly. If you have reset the system by doing a Publish All event, then your comments have been lost.

  • Restoring backed-up iweb

    Hi guys,
I need some advice! I recently bought a 1TB firewire drive to back up all my big files to. I used it to make a clean copy of my internal HD using super duper, then installed the OS and wiped my internal HD so I could start afresh.
Rather unwisely, I didn't use iweb backup to store my iweb sites, though all the file structure and files are there on my external HD. I need to restore the old iweb as I edit all my sites on it. I have used time machine to do periodic backups on another 250GB firewire drive, so perhaps that would be a help? Ideally I would be able to get my iweb to the stage it was at when I backed up to the 1TB drive though. Is this possible? One idea I had was creating a disk image of my backup and maybe booting from that, though i don't know whether that's possible or how it's done exactly.
Please can someone give me some tips?
    Many thanks!
    Ben

Ben ~ iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). See this Apple doc:
_iWeb ’08: Backing up your Domain file_

The Domain file has a hidden file extension of ".sites2" — so you could search for that. See this Apple doc:
Recovering items using Time Machine and Spotlight
But Spotlight doesn't look in all areas of the hard drive — so if no luck, download and run Find File to search for ".sites2".

  • Haloscan Comments in iWeb

Has anyone been able to successfully use Haloscan to allow for comments on iWeb created pages? I can't get it to work. If you have, please tell me where to insert the code. Thanks!

I don't think it can work. Every time you add a comment to an iWeb blog and republish the page, any custom code you had added before is erased. At present there is no way as far as I know to customize a template to add the needed code permanently. Hopefully they will consider this for the next version.

  • How to restore site in iWeb?

    Hello.
    My name is ALeks.
I have an issue with my site and I need an advice how to minimise my recovery job.
I reinstalled Mac OS X and did not save my site. I want my system to be virgin.
I saved all my work (files) of course for future, except files from iWeb (I figured out that I should save "Domain").
I have of course all my site on my domain and have access to copy it to my computer.
How can I minimise my recovery job to restore it in iWeb to work further with my site?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

As you figured out correctly, you need the domain.sites2 file in
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
    to continue working in iWeb.
If that file is missing, you'll have to start from scratch.
To minimise the recovery job you have to copy/paste the objects and text from your current published webpages.

  • Help! mobileme free Comments on iWeb (Gravatar)?

    Hi,
Is there a way of adding comments to an iWeb page? I want to use wordpress for my blog but integrate it with my main iweb site, but unfortunately there are no ways of posting comments on iWeb without using mobileme (which is not an option at that price), which i require for my photo pages.
Otherwise i'd have to create all the pages on wordpress but its not as easily customisable as iWeb :/ So I wondered whether i could enable comments with some sort of plugin, preferably gravatar seeing as thats what i use on wordpress, but have no idea how to do this!
    Please help ASAP,
    Dan

Hate to disappoint. I've been looking for over a year with no luck.
I've been told by the heads much more clever than myself that iWeb requires MobileMe servers for fully functional blogs and photo galleries. Nobody could make work the serverside databases necessary for running this show within iWeb.
I've been using MobileMe since it's inception and am happy with it. I know the $$ are painful, but just hear me out!
MobileMe is more expensive than other services out there, I agree. THe premium paid is for the ease of use and integration with Apple apps.
    Now, think about this:
How much do you pay for e-mail account which does push?
How much do you pay for website hosting? Do they give you 20GB of storage?
How much do you pay for an application which does one click publishing?
Do other services automatically back up your calendars, keychains and documents to a server?
If your answer to all this os zero $$$, then I'd suggest you get a bootleg copy of Dreamweaver, build your own blog site, post it on your own computer, turn on web sharing, sign up for a free dyndns.org account to lock up your free domain to your dynamic IP address and you are ready to run your own picture blog from home. Minus the Apple one-click experience, of course......

  • Restore Comments in blog entries?

Had some mess with iWeb 2.x and returned to iWeb 1.x
Now all blog comments are gone. Is there any chance to restore them?
    Thanks, willi

Does anybody know how the comments are stored in iWeb 2.0? And even better: how in iWeb 1.x? I would like to restore them from 2 to 1.
Your help would be very appreciated. Thank you.

  • A Problem with Comments on iWeb

I am having a problem with the comments feature in iWeb. Something has happened where people can no longer add comments to my blog or other sites. Every time they try they see this, "We're sorry. We are having problems processing your request." Does anyone have any insight on how to solve the problem? Thanks,
    Kyle

You join many others in discovering a problem with the mobile.me conversion. You are probably doing nothing wrong. The "publish" button at the bottom of the iweb application is not working correctly. It is publishing to web.mac.com even though it says otherwise. When this happens the comments function in the blogs will no longer work. Solution: Do not use the "publish" button at the bottom of the iweb application. Instead, go to the very top of your screen, select "File", then publish to mobile.me or Publish all to mobile. me. I think you will find that the comments function now works.
This solution will NOT work for many of us who have lots of users that have previously been given a web.mac.com URL. There are only two options: 1. Give your users the new URL; or, put a note at the top of the web.mac.com blog that tells people it is "read only" and that comments won't work, then use a link to redirect them to a mirror image of the site with a web.me URL.. It's a pain, I know. Apple needs to fix it but the company seems to be taking a long time to do it. Must be bigger problems on their plate.

  • Using photo comments in iWeb

I typed in all of my descriptions to my photos as comments in iPhoto and then tried to post to iWeb but it didn't use the comments. Is there a way instead of retyping all of the desciptions?

    Welcome Jerkill
There is a tutorial here that goes through Exporting from iPhoto to a folder, and then into iWeb.
What you need to look at in iPhoto is:
File > Export: Then play with the settings on the File Export Tab, maybe the Web Page tab, it has a comments box.
Once you have set these, then I beleive that whatever you choose becomes the default until you change it.

  • Comments in iWeb blog.

I created a website and a blog using iWeb 3.0.4 but no body can leave any comments, even when I had checked the box allowing comments. Help anyone?
    Thanks!!
    Capechic

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?  Where are you hosting your blog website? If it's not to MobileMe that's the reason they can't.  Do you have an Add a Comment link showing?
If so what happens when someone tries to add a comment?

  • Comments in iWeb '09

    Hi everyone,
I have recently spent a lot of time on my website and have finally come to the blog. In the Inspector, I have selected the RSS tab and checked off the 'Allow Comments' and 'Allow Attachments' boxes. In the iWeb preview, I can see the 'Add a comment' link at the bottom of my post. Unfortunately, when I upload to MobileMe, the link is not there!
I am using a third party theme (Aerolite by 11Mystics) which may have something to do with it?
    Thanks in advance.

Tobyn ~ Problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme in these forums and using a non-Apple theme may challenge iWeb's blog even more. ...You may want to consider using an alternative, web-based solution for your blog — see this old thread:

  • Using Facebook Comments for iWeb Blog (non mobile me domain)

Upon moving from a mobileme hosted iWeb created blog to a personal domain, I obviously lost ability to use iWeb commenting. That in-of-itself was frustrating, so I've been scouting out new possibilities. Some have recommended IntenseDebate and others, but I'm curious if anyone has had luck using Facebook Comments? http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments
I've been able to use the Facebook Like HTML as a Widget not a problem, but haven't been able to get Comments to work.
    www.kellerowski.com
    Thanks in advance!

That is because it is a plugin and plugins won't work with iWeb as far as I am aware.
I would try http://www.intensedebate.com. It is very easy to set up and it works and you will be notified by e-mail every time somebody posts a comment. I use IntenseDebate on my own site and it works very well for me.
Your other alternative of course is to ditch the iWeb blog and create a blog link to a blog created in WordPress - you can use http://www.wordpress.org too if you uploading to another host, so you will then have www.domain.com/Blog.

  • *visible* comments on iweb photo pages?

    hi all
i've read a few posts which complain about the lack of comment functions in iweb, specifically on photo pages.
i use icomment and have experimented with the haloscan option of embedding a haloscan commenting link on an iweb page, but it's a rather unimpressive feature, but an impressive workaround nonetheless.
is there any way to make [haloscan] comments visible?
any advice or tips are warmly accepted.
    cheers, lee.

You might want to consider having the comment in an iFrame on your page. You can iFrame the haloscan page into your iWeb page. Use the Haloscan URL to iFrame. For example http://haloscan.com/comments/iwebfaqs/AutoPlay/ can be iFramed into an iWeb site to display the comments on the page instead of having to click a link to see the comments open in a pop-up window. There is more information on how to insert an iFrame into an iWeb site at http://iWebFAQ.com/iFrame
The website http://iWebFAQ.com has pages that require visitors to log in.
www.iWebFAQ.com/iFrame is one of the areas on the website that require users to log in.
A $5 secure PayPal donation is suggested to access restricted areas.
In compliance to Apple's Terms Of Service iWebFAQ is disclaiming that
"I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link."

  • Blocking Anonymous Comments in iWeb 08?

Is there a way to disable the anonymous comments option in iWeb?

Are you hosting your site on an external server? If so, iWeb actually tells you when you publish to a folder that certain features are not available such as blog comments, hit counter etc.
Blog comments or any comments are a MobileMe only feature, so you have to publish here to get them.

  • Getting iPhoto comments to iWeb (iLife 08)

I have a tediously-commented set of photos I made in whatever version of iPhoto was current in 2003. I want to publish them with iWeb to a photo page, but none of the comments carry over, instead I get photo captions like "IMG_0124" when what I really want is the comment text e.g. "San Giovanni in Laterano" (pics from a trip to Rome with a guide friend so every image has an accurate caption) used as a caption. Of course, re-entering all of those comments/captions is an enormous pain in the butt.
The iWeb pages are really nice, but why don't the comments carry over when I export from iPhoto to iWeb?

Here's how you can do what you want.
1 - get the Applescript that's discussed at this page. Be sure to read all of the comments to find the one error that's in the script. It's easy to correct.
2 - select the photos in the album that you want to add to the photo page and run the Applescript.
3 - create a new photo page and drag that iPhoto album from the Media/Photos page into the iWeb photo page. You will now have the comments under each photo.
4 - when you want to return the titles of the photos back to the original file names use the Photos->Batch Change->Titles to File name menu option.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Restore photos, music, iWeb from time machine

    MacConvert2
    Dec 29, 2012 9:27 AM
Three weeks ago, the Apple geniuses erased my iMac hard drive, in an effort to fix my iMac's display (turns out, it was a faulty video card, NOT the hard drive).
I was travelling and away from my time machine backup disk.  So, I simply re-downloaded and re-installed all my applications. I had my Documents backed up, and re-installed those as well.
HOWEVER, I did not re-install my photos or music.  I did not have them backed up.  I knew they were on my time machine disk, back at home.
So, now I'm back home and trying to re-install my photos and music.  I don't want to reinstall iphoto or itunes - just the photos and music files themselves.
ALSO, I want to re-install iWeb from time machine as well.  For iWeb, I need both the app and the files.
How to do all of this via time machine?
    Thanks.

Before going to Time Machine, select the appropriate folder in Finder (Applications for example). This saves time as Time Machine can take awhile to load when you switch folders. Enter Time Machine. Go to a date where the items were known to exist (you can either click on a date on the right side or select a window from the past). Find the iWeb application in the Applications folder, select it and hit restore. Repeat for your music and pictures folder.
This thread talks about where the iWeb files are:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18292177#18292177
To make your user Library visible  hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder command. Enter ~/Library.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below. It does work with Mountain Lion:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2.
