Restore in other instance

Hi all.
I want testing my backups. Testing will be in restore backups into other copy of SAP instance.
for example: 1. I have instance with name SID1. and backup on tape
                   2. Create new_zone in Solaris
                   3. Copy oracle and sap bin (SID1) into new_zone
                   4. Edit the users, ORACLE and SAP profiles for SID2
                   5. test start for SID2
                   6. it may be necessary connect tape library in new_zone
SID1 & SID2 located on the same physical server
q: how can I restore backup on tape for SID1 to enviroment SID2?
i try use brrestore: brrestore -b bddcbjcq.afd -m all=/new_zone/root/SID2/.....
but recovered only datafiles without directories structure and other files.
Thank you for your help

As you seem to be testing your restore functionality, here is my input for backups taken with brbackup:
- you can always restore a redo log file (on the same system) without any problems
orasid> brrestore -a <archive_num>
orasid> cd oraarch; rm <archivfile>
- you can always restore a datafile or tablespace to a new path without interrupting the running database
orasid> cd sapdata1; mkdir restore
orasid> brrestore -m SYSTEM=/oracle/SID/sapdata1/restore
orasid> rm -r restore
Depending on your backup configuration you have to supply a few additional options.
Cheers Michael
Edit: i think brrestore will not create the directories when using -m all=/new_zone/root/SID2/.....  syntax, but it fhe files were restored you are basically ok.

    Since I started using FireFox version 4, every time I open a "new window", all other instances of FireFox windows open up. This is annoying as it often covers up instances I am currently using with instances that I don't wish to use right now. I can't seem to find a way to keep this behavior from occurring.

    It seems that your OAF linked page is requiring a session - or at minimum a user that is logged in. I'd check to see if your link is correct, then check to see if any single sign on operations are also working. (i.e. it doesn't appear that you are linking to a public page - or have an active session - on your second instance. If your user should be able to see the OAF page without logging in, I'd also check the EBS responsibilties that you have set up for that particular page access.)

    You need to force quit all other (real or fake) instances of the Application Manager.  Instructions differ between Mac or Win.
    A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with SP2: 'SQLEXPRESS'-instance installation fails while any other instance name installation succeeds.

    We supply our software package that also includes the unattended installation (with /QS and so on) of SQL Server R2 Express (with SP2).
    The setup works good in about 99.9% cases, but one customer complained that after the "successful SQL Sever installation (at least, it looked so!) he could not open the supplied database getting some strange error messages...
    After some months of trial-n-error attempts we are now able to reproduce the problems this custumer had. But we cannot find the reason of the problem.
    So the test computer is a virtual machine with Windows 7 + sp1 32-bit.
    Among the programs/tools installed on this machine there were (in the following order):
    SQL Server 2008 Express - the default SQLEXPRESS instance
    SSMS
    VS 2010 Pro (German)
    SQL Server 2008 Express R2 (with SP 1 or SP2 - ?) - the default SQLEXPRESS instance
    Then some of them were uninstalled in the following order:
    SQL Server 2008 Express
    SSMS
    SQL Server 2008 Express R2
    Now we tried to install (in normal mode with UI) the SQL Server 2008 Express R2 with SP2.

    When we chose some other instance name then the installation has completed successfully.
    So the questions are:
    What could be the reason of the problem (and only for SQLEXPRESS instance that was earlier installed and then uninstalled)? I will provide the complete Detail.txt file if needed.
    How could we check (if we could) the conditions so some name would be allowed as an instance name for SQL Server installer to success?
    With the best regards,

    Thank you Lydia!
    Unfortunately the simple check the registry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance Names\SQL does /did not work in our case since there is no any instance
    name there,
    However there seem to be some "rudiments" under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and/or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services.
    So I will now try to check the subkeys of these two keys as it was mentioned by Xiao-Min Tan.

  • Changes not showing in other instance of web logic server after deployment

    Hi Everyone,
    My Jdev version is 11.1.2.3.0.
    I have developed one ADF application and deployed into web logic server from Jdev itself and is working fine with the URL.
    Now the same EAR file is deployed into other instance of web logic server. it was working fine too.
    NOw i have modified some columns in the table in ADF page and modified the URL of the page in Controller project properties Java EE Application tab and deployed the page in first instance through Jdeveloper only and is working very fine with the new URL and with the new changes.
    But when i deploy this EAR file into other instance of the web logic server i got following problems:
    1. URL is not being changed. --> page is running with the old URL only.
    2. Changes to the ADF page is not reflected.
    3. Test point for this application is blank in web logic server.
    What can be the issues with this?
    Any suggestions will be really useful.
    Thanks.....

    About the context URL:
    There are 2 ways to change the context URL, 1 for design time (the one you used) and 1 for deploy time.

  • Central is pausing my "other instances" of Central - can I stop this??

    We have 9 instances of Central Output Server 5.6 installed on a server running Windows 2003.  We are currently using one instance, call it instance 1.  When the server is rebooted for whatever reason, all the Central Output Server restarts all the instances, which is fine, but it then automatically pauses all the other instances other than instance 1.  Is there a setting somewhere or an INI file I can modify to stop this from happening?  I've poured over all the INI files I can find looking for an setting that might be doing this but I've had no luck.

    Chris, thank you for your response. It is appreciated. What you mentioned was my original problem with the SIM (the fact that it did not mesh well with Apple). After plenty of frustration and money wasted, a technician advised me to de-activate iMessage and FaceTime because I was getting charged 0.30 euro for every call and every text. I followed this suggestion and after testing it out, then the phone seemed to be working fine without the extra charge problems.
    This morning when I woke up, I checked my credits on the phone and I had lost another 1.20 euro during the night. When I called PosteMobile, they told me that I had sent another 4 messages to that same UK number. I'm not sure how this is possible, and when I try to explain my situation to them, they are not the friendliest people. I've used WIND before in Italy as a provider without any problems, and they are not listed on the link that you sent me for Italy, so I don't understand why PosteMobile is giving me so many problems.
    I was also wondering if there is a way to block my phone from sending messages to this number? (Although, I don't even know the last 3 digits of the number). Sorry if I'm rambling, but I don't know how to resolve this problem without starting a new contract with another service provider.

  • Bug or feature? Direct access to private property in other instance.

    This is example code:
    public class SomeClass {
        private String property;
        public String getProperty() {
            return property;
        public void setProperty(String property) {
            this.property = property;
        @Override
        public boolean equals(Object o){
            if (null == o) return false;
            if (!(o instanceof SomeClass)) return false;
            SomeClass someClass = (SomeClass)o;
            if (null != property && !property.equals(someClass.property) ||
                null == property && null != someClass.property) return false;
            return true;
        @Override
        public int hashCode(){
            int hash = 0;
            if (null != property) hash = property.hashCode();
            return hash;
    }In equals method you can clearly see "someClass.property" which means accessing private property in someClass, which is other instance than that one, where is equals invoked.
    This code is compilable, runable (1.5), but obviously didn't do right job.
    To do right job, you must use "someClass.getProperty()".
    How can this be compilable and runable?

    I'd say one could argue this violates encapsulation if you really wanted to, but it's certainly not a bug, it's well-known and documented. At the very worst, it's a compromise. Probably something to do with the fact that Java objects do not have their own copy of the bytecode of the class they're an instance of.I don't really think you could argue that. From class A, being able to access members of an instance of class A isn't against encapsulation since, being class A, you already know all of the intimate details! It's not seeing inside the black box, it's being inside the black box. Or rather, it's being the box!You already know all the intimate details, because each instance of a class in Java shares the class bytes with other instances of that class. That's because of the design of the language. Encapsulation (really, we're talking about data-hiding here, not encapsulation) is about hiding an objects data from other objects. The fact that all instances of a class can see each other's fields just makes things convenient for language and runtime designers. The original spec for object-oriented programming talked about objects communicating with each other by message-passing, which we see as method invocations. Accessing data directly is just a relaxation of that stricture, for convenience.
    Accessing the private members is a completely fine and actually very normal case, especially in equals() methods. I still favour accessors in that instanceWhy? Seems like pointless overhead. And due to symmetry, you would probably want to use accessors for this's members as well. Otherwise, changing an accessor will break your equals implementation.It's no overhead at all. The method will probably be inlined. Suppose you subclass. Your member variables now have to be protected, not private. But what if your subclass changes how one of those fields is returned by the accessor?
    Look, I'm not saying "Java should not allow instances of the same class to access each others' private members (oo-er)" but I can certainly understand why someone might be surprised that it does.

    hi all,
    Can we migrate request set from one instance to other instance without FNDLOAD.?
    Thanks

    not yet i'll try now..so what you mean is when i transfer the request set to other instance all related files will also transfer(including Executable programs ,concurrent programs ),right..?No, all required concurrent programs should exist on the target instance before using FNDLOAD to migrate request sets to the target instance. If the concurrent programs are not there, you have to migrate it before migrate request sets.

    Does iTunes offer a restore from other than current data on my pc?  I've lost all my pictures because of lack of disk space on my pc.

    Are you talking about restore of the iPhone from its backup, or something else? The first time you sync an iOS device on each calendar day iTunes will update the backup set for the device. If you remove data from the device and backup, then the backup of that data has gone. For this reason it actually makes sense to restore an iOS device periodically as, once used for a restore, the backup set is archived and a new one created.
    Ideally you would have backed up these pictures somewhere. If you enabled it, you may find pictures in your Photo Stream.
    In general you need to keep a backup copy of all your important files. iTunes will let you download most past purchases from the store but backing up other content is down to you. The user  Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy suggests a way to do this for iTunes, but the same tool can be used to preserve other folders of data.

  • Why can private variables be accessed by other instances?

    From an OO design perspective, I'm sure this makes sense, but perhaps somebody could articulate it for me so that I can understand the rationale.
    I can see that one way of looking at encapsulation is that the object itself should be encapsulated and if you have 2 Person objects, why should one Person be allowed access to another Person's private data?
    Why is this not how Java decides to implement access modifiers (i.e. not a per-instance basis)?...I have no idea how other languages do it because I'm new to all this, but perhaps you can explain for me.

    I don't know why it was designed that way, but
    consider this:public class Example {
    private int value = 42;
    public void setAnotherValue(Example ex, int
    nt newValue) {
    ex.value = newValue;
    Thanks for your example. Looking at it, it makes me realize that this per-class access is specially meant for access to other instances, because otherwise the method would just look like this, correct?
    public void setAnotherValue(int newValue) {
       this.value = newValue;
    }How would the runtime check you mentioned look? I couldn't figure out which of the following two you had in mind and are appropriate:
    public void setAnotherValue(Example ex, int newValue) {
       if (ex == this)
         ex.value = newValue;
      else
         throw new RuntimeException();
    }or this...
    Example e1 = new Example();
    Example e2 = new Example();
    if (e2 != e1) throw new RuntimeException();
    e2.setAnotherValue(e1, 57);

  • Demantra Workflow Migration to other Instance

    Hi All,
    We have created a small demantra workflow. Is there any way to migrate the same demantra workflow to other instance.
    Please help me out.
    Regards,
    Ajay Kunde

    Hi Ajay,
    Demantra provides us the capability of exporting the data model as a dump file.This dump file can be imported into the new instance to migrate all the objects of one instance to the new instance.This approach will be helpful when there are many Demantra objects to be migrated.
    But in case where the objects are very little, it is always advisable to recreate the objects in the new instance to avoid post migration work.
    I hope I answered your query. Expecting more replies and perspectives.
