Restore incremental backups to new server

Hello!
I am trying to create my database on a new server using rman incremental cold backups.
I have already restored my level 0 database, but i am not able to restore the level 1 backup because rman doesn't find it on the new server. I have transported the level 0 and level 1 backup in tar format from the old server to the new one. Also I have not executed recover copy of database with tag 'xxxx' after level 1 backup on the source server , because i want to transport only the incremental files. Can sb help me on this issue?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Please follow the below process....
1- Take Level 0 backup with archivelog from Primary machine.
Note:- Auto Cotrolfile backup should be set in parameters setting of RMAN
2- Ship this dackup to another machine(Directory Structure Should be same , If directory Strucuture is different then use set new name option while restore)
3- STARTUP WITH NOMOUNT to second machine.
4- connect rman
5- RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM AUTOBACKUP;(All backup files should be placed at same location as on primary server , if Location is different then use RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM 'backup file'
6- MOUNT THE DATABASE
7- RESTORE DATABASE
8 -RECOVER DATABASE
After this go to primary machine do some updations and take INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 BACKUP
Move all files to New machine
1-STARTUP NOMOUNT
2- RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM AUTOBACKUP;(All backup files should be placed at same location as on primary server , if Location is different then use RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM 'backup file'
Note:- This time controlfile should bw retored from New backup;
3- MOUNT THE DATABASE;
4- RECOVER DATABASE;( This time no need to restore database again).
Hope this will help
Thanks & Regards

  • How to restore from an incremental backup when new datafiles are added

    1) Source - We have a base backup and then take differential (LEVEL 1) backups every day. Due to business needs, new datafiles keep added daily in the database. So you will see an incremental backup having new datafiles that got created after the LEVEL 0 backup.
    2) Destination - We want to restore this database in the destination host "continiously".
    a) I first restored from the BASE FULL - LEVEL 0 . This was successful (restored and recovered, but did not OPEN the database)
    b) But restoring a LEVEL 1 now on top of the already restored LEVEL 0 makes the restore start all over again if there are NEW DATAFILES added after the LEVEL 0 backup in the source database.
    This is not a problem when no new datafiles are added/modified between the "BASE" and "LEVEL 1" backup.
    So how do you "just restore only the new datafiles" instead of "starting from BASE LEVEL 0 restore" again " ?
    -Thanks
    Srini

    Hi Srini,
    So how do you "just restore only the new datafiles" instead of "starting from BASE LEVEL 0 restore" again " ?The recovery process after the restore should add the newly created datafiles on the destination host.
    Can you check by querying v$datafile in mount mode and post the output?

  • Move Publisher backup to new server( Cold Standby Server) ?

    We have CUCM cluster consist of 1 publisher, 4 subscriber and have installed a new node like another cluster's publisher(with diferent ip address from existing publisher) . When existing publisher goes down we will move publisher backup to new server and change publisher ip address to new server on existing subscribers.
    is it posible ?
    Our aim is using new server for publisher down issue.(like cold standby server but diferent ip address from existing publisher)
    Or is there any better way to install publisher backup on on branch? When publisher goes down we will use the new server like publisher.

    Hi
    Re: NTP... you can have multiple NTP servers assigned, and only the primary NTP server is used for license MAC generation. As such, I would:
    1) set the primary NTP server to be the real NTP address you want to use. This will not be accessible when you build the server with the old servers' IP.
    2) set the secondary NTP server to an accessible NTP server. I do this by setting up NTP on the server you serve the SFTP backup file from. I use Meinberg NTP if this is a Windows box, it's free.
    That way you can build the server (primary NTP not accessible, but secondary is so it's fine). Then after the restore, change IP address and it will start using the primary NTP server.
    I presume deployment type refers to product and role .e.g. a CUCM Publisher, not a CUC server or CUCMBE publisher.

  • Restoring incremental backup in QAS_ECC6_Ora_10G_Unix

    Dear All,
    We have restored PRD data in QAS about 4 months back upto 2009. Now we wish to restore the production data for the months of Jan to Apri;2010 in QAS. We can not afford restoring PRD whole data in QAS as it is more than 1.5 TB and it will take at least 3 to 4 days. We have the incremental databackup for these months with us (RMAN backup). Even we do have archive logs for this period.
    Is it possible to apply archive logs in QAS (database open state), I believe we can not do this once we open the database.
    How to restore incremental backup in QAS?
    Thanks
    S@pm@n

    Hi,
    Is it possible to apply archive logs in QAS (database open state), I believe we can not do this once we open the database.
    Yes , you are right , you can not apply redo logs once database is open.
    For restoring incremental backup also you need 0 level database restore first(You can not restore incremental backup of PRD directly on QAS)  , so every case you need to restore almost 1.5TB of data.
    Regards,

  • What permission is needed for a login to access the restored database(backup from different server)

    what permission is needed for a login to access the restored database(backup from different server)
    frequently reach the situation, when vendor restores a database, but he cannot access it unless I remap or add his login to the restored database. What permssion can grant the vendor so that he can but only can access the database he restored, not all other
    databases.

    Hi George,
    According to your description, When you move a database from one server that is running SQL Server to another server that is running SQL Server, a mismatch may occur between the security identification numbers (SIDs) of the logins in the master database
    and the users in the user database. As other post, you can use the sp_change_users_login stored procedure to map SQL Server logins. Also , you can use the following statement after doing the restore database. It will
     fix the mis-mapped SID inside the restored DB.
    ALTER USER <username> WITH LOGIN = <username>
    For more information, you can review the following article.

  • Restoring Rman backup on New Host with different directory structure

    Hi,
    I have a following scenario to clone the database.
    1. clone the database on new server
    2. source is non - ASM and target is ASM
    3. On source incremental level 0 backup taken on disk connecting to catalog, the backup is moved to target host to different directory structure
    4. source is running on 32-bit Linux two node Rac and Target is running on 64-bit Linux two node Rac
    I did the following steps and getting below error:
    1. I copied incremental Level 0 backup to target server(where we need to build new db) to different directory structure
    2. On target i created pfile and build the instance, as dbf file are in multiple locations in source i put following tow parameters in init.ora of target database
    *.db_file_name_convert =(/u02/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA2/udev/datafile),(/u03/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u12/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile,),(/u99/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u09/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u14/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u07/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u06/oradata/prod/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile'),(/u05/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile)
    *.log_file_name_convert =("/u99/oradata/app1p/","+QADATA2/udev/onlinelog/")
    3. connected to rman -->> started db in nomount -->> restored the controlfile --> cataloged the backup piece and then i am trying to restore
    All the above steps i did using the Doc id *How To Restore Rman Backups On A Different Node When The Directory Structures Are Different [ID 419137.1]*

    I want to test my backup by restoring the full backup of my production database on a separate test server.
    I have taken following action for restore to test server:
    •     Copy full backup to Test Server on same folder where it was in Production Server.
    •     Copy parameter file to Test Server. (Edit control file location on it)
    •     Connect Rman

  • My work issued iphone won't restore the backup. New password twist!

    My work issued iphone won't restore the backup. I get an error that my password is wrong. I tried variations of all recent passwords. Checked various threads and saw one that suggesting to use the "Change Password" feature under "Encrypt iPhone Backup" as a faster way to find your password. After a few wrong attempts I then successfully changed my backup password and wrote it down!!
    Now when I tried to restore my backup with my shiny new password I get the same error that "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "my iphone" because the password was incorrect"  The "Encrypt iPhone backup" option is checked and grayed out. I assume the fact its grayed out means its a policy set by my company. I cannot uncheck the "Encrypt iPhone Backup" option. My company IT helpdesk can't help me as they say they don't set a password or force its encryption. The phone has Mobile Iron 5.7.4 app installed as a corporate requirement.
    Any ideas? I am using iOS 6.1.3 and I will not update it to iOS 7 since I cannot restore my backup. Learned this the hard way when it wouldn't restore after the iOS 5 to iOS 6 update. I have an iPhone 4s.
    Thank you,

    This is a problem.  We also set a policy which requires users create a backup password.  That way if they salvage their computer, someone that buys it at the Thrift store won't be able to access what might be company data.  The problem is that the password is only required one time, when the initial backup is made, and it might be a year or more before you need to use it to do a restore.  Here is an article which may help out...at least with some ideas on password ideas...http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162
    If you can't remember it, you can always transfer your content to your computer, music, apps, photo's etc, then setup the device as new and transfer the content back.  This won't allow you to get various settings, and points on games, etc, but at least you will have the really really important stuff.  If you are connected to an enterprise mail server, that will restore all of your mail, contacts and calendar.

  • Restoring Incremental Backup using Netbackup

    Hi,
    Need your help. We have a backup of our Oracle 10g Database(one full backup and one incremental backup). The full backup (level0) is done by Netbackup and the incremental backup is done by local rman.
    Now we want to restore the database. I have modified the script of Netbackup to restore the controlfile of incremental backup and allocate 2 channels for tape and disk. Our incremental backup resides in disk. Is the script we used below correct?
    RUN {
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE DISK;
    send 'NB_ORA_CLIENT=prod01, NB_ORA_SERV=NAS';
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM '/rman/backup/incremental/ctl_PROD_c-86955024-20101221-
    03';
    ALTER DATABASE MOUNT;
    RELEASE CHANNEL ch00;
    RUN {
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';

    Hi benjo,
    You cannot allocate two types of channels at the same time so you should try a three step approach.
    (Every time create a new connection to the target.)
    Restore controlfile
    No need for:
    send 'NB_ORA_CLIENT=prod01, NB_ORA_SERV=NAS';exit
    Restore database from tape.
    remove from your second run block
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch01 TYPE DISK;
    RECOVER DATABASE;
    RELEASE CHANNEL ch01;exit
    Than create a recover command with disk channels
    basicly remove the tape channel and restore commands from your second run block and add
    alter database open resetlogs;Regards,
    Tycho

  • TimeMachine: Restore incremental backup

    When restoring from a TimeMachine backup to a new hard disk, only "full backups", which are a bit outdated, are shown. Are the incremental backups restored after the "full backup" restore?

    bbonn wrote:
    I'm in the same situation, and to clarify: Time Machine does, in fact, keep full vs. incremental backups, confirmed by the AppleCare support manager I am working with on this problem.
    No.  There's a misunderstanding.
    Time Machine only makes a full backup once; all thereafter are incrementals, of what's new or changed.
    But because of the way they're all linked together, every backup is, in effect, a full one.  Seems odd, but see the tan box in How Time Machine works its Magic for an explanation.
    However, it sounds like you may have been bitten by a bug we recently discovered, and Apple either doesn't recognize yet or hasn't told the Support folks about.  Something (we don't know what yet), is telling Time Machine not to back up several top level system folders.  Without them, of course, those backups aren't complete, so don't appear on the selection window.  See #D10 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for details.
    if so, you should be able to get most of your stuff back, at least everything from your home folder.  We can help with that if necessary.
    What's definitely confirmed is that any local-only snapshots are lost when the hard drive is lost, which begs the question: Why would Apple choose to do that in the first place when a perfectly-good external backup location is connected?
    Those are made on laptops only, whether the external is connected or not, so you'll have access to them if necessary.   Think of them as temporary, expendable Versions for files that don't have regualar Versions.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #30 for details.

  • Restore Rman backup on another server

    Hi.,

  • Restoring the backup on other server with different patch level

    Hi Gurus,
    I have one HP-UX B11.31 server which holds ORACLE software with 10.2.0.4 patch level, and I have restored one database with the same patch level from HP DataProtector successfully. Now, I want to restore two node RAC database backup with Oracle Patch level of 10.2.0.2 into the Restore server which is of 10.2.0.4 patch level, the RAC database uses ASM, here are the steps which I am going to follow;
    1. Create a new database with the same schema as like the RAC database in ASM.
    2. Restore & Recover the RAC database backup from Data Protector.
    But, I have one question, can I restore & recover the backup which is in lower grade Oracle software patch level i.e; 10.2.0.2 on a higher grade Oracle software patch level ie; 10.2.0.4 ???
    ?:|
    Even after restoring & recovering can the database will work? PLEASE guide.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Thanks again!!!
    The point of upgrading the database comes when there is already a database and one is upgrading the ORACLE software version and then upgrading the database to its version using the scripts you suggest.
    Here is the scenario where I have to restore and recover a 10.2.0.2 RAC database backup on 10.2.0.4 sotware version,
    *my question is that, whether there will be any conflict of patch version as the Oracle Brain will be of the latest version? Oracle software will successfully restore and recover the database backup with a lower patch version? or it will throw any error when restoring the backup like compatibility unmatched between the software and the backup you are trying to restore & recover?*
    yes the RAC database is in ASM.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Restore database Error when restoring database to a new server

    Hi folks,
    I am oracle 10g on an AIX server (5.3).
    I created an rman backup of a database. I then copied it over to a new server where I am trying to restore it (I just created the backup today). However, I am getting the error below.
    Essentially, I used an initdb.ora file to create an instance of the database, and mounted it, on the new server. And then I ran a simple "restore database" command, the end of which is displayed below, with a "Restore complete. ..."
    I have looked up this error (ora-01152) online and I cannot find a scenario which best provides me with a fix to my problem, about the file not being restored from a sufficiently old backup. Could any one help please?
