  • Rman backup to another server

    Hello!
    This is the scenario:
I have a primary database(oracle 10g) and a standby database, created using Rman.
Is there a way to backup the standby database and transfer the backup to another server, so I can have the database in a third server that is neither primary nor standby.
    Thank in advance!

    Hi user10385894,
Is there a way to backup the standby database and transfer the backup to another server?Yes you can copy the backup pieces from the standby side to the third server and copy a controlfilecopy from the primary and register the backup pieces.
    Followed by a restore.
Do you happen to have a catalog than even a duplicate can be done easely?
    Regards,

  • Restore RMAN backup on new server

    Hi
I took RMAN backup of a database with control file autobackup on...I copied the backup
to a new server restored the spfile from the backup and modified the parameters
bdump, udump, control file because the directory structure is different from the original
machine.I restored the control file and it was restored properly.
Now I need to restore the datafiles in the new path so I used set newname and switch
but I get some error ....I have posted the error please look at it

  • RMAN Backup on another server

    Hi,
I am using oracle database 11g, and I am taking RMAN backup in the same server.
But now I need this RMAN backup to be saved on another server.
I created one database directory, but it did not work with me, since it cannot see the location.
I used the same idea with export file to another server and it worked.
But with RMAN directory it could not work !!!.
So any idea about this ?
    Thanks and Best Regards.

  • Move backup on another server

    Hi,
    I made a backup using rman and the following: RMAN> backup database;
can I restore this backup on another server? If yes how can I do this?
    Thank you

Go for RMAN duplication. Check the links below.

  • Can we restore oracle 11g RMAN backups to 10g server

    Hi,
I have RMAN backups (full backup)of oracle 11g database. My server was suddenly crashed due to hardware failure.
We have another Oracle 10g server. Is it possible to restore RMAN backups of 11g database to Oracle 10g server???
    Thanks

I don't have 11g server ready with me. The other server running oracle 10g and I dont have rights to install oracle 11g on the 10g server. So I can not test the RESTORE/RECOVER commands.
If anyone had experience in the past, please let me know whether we can RESTORE RMAN backups of 11g database to oracle 10g server...

  • Load rman backup on another instance

    Hi All,
I am relatively new to Oracle and now I have to devise a strategy for backups and recovery. My objective is to backup the production database regularly in such a way that one month down the line I am able to load it on another instance. I have been trying to read up on the subject, but looks like it can be loaded only on the same instance.
Any thoughts how can this be achieved.
    Thanks
    Sanjay

    Hi Pierre,
Looks like rman duplicate database command only supports creation of duplicate database on a instance that exists at the time. I am looking for something that can be archived on to disk/tape and when required restored on a database instance. I come from Sybase background, where we just dump (or backup) a database copy and restore it on to another server and database. I have tried dumping schema using both datapump and exp, but both have problems while restoring on another server. Datapump does not support XMLtype data and imp has problem restoring some views.

  • Restoring Rman backup on New Host with different directory structure

    Hi,
I have a following scenario to clone the database.
    1. clone the database on new server
    2. source is non - ASM and target is ASM
    3. On source incremental level 0 backup taken on disk connecting to catalog, the backup is moved to target host to different directory structure
    4. source is running on 32-bit Linux two node Rac and Target is running on 64-bit Linux two node Rac
I did the following steps and getting below error:
    1. I copied incremental Level 0 backup to target server(where we need to build new db) to different directory structure
    2. On target i created pfile and build the instance, as dbf file are in multiple locations in source i put following tow parameters in init.ora of target database
    *.db_file_name_convert =(/u02/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA2/udev/datafile),(/u03/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u12/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile,),(/u99/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u09/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u14/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u07/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u06/oradata/prod/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile'),(/u05/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile)
    *.log_file_name_convert =("/u99/oradata/app1p/","+QADATA2/udev/onlinelog/")
    3. connected to rman -->> started db in nomount -->> restored the controlfile --> cataloged the backup piece and then i am trying to restore

  • Restore 9i Database to Another Server but Same Database Name

    hi experts,
    This is 9i on Windows.
I want to restore my RMAN backup from production server to my test server.
I know the db names have to be the same for RMAN to work.
Can I restore from my full backup -- test server, then change the db name on the test server? The database name on test needs to be different to prevent someone from accidentally connecting to test but thinking it is production.
    Is this possible to do?
    Again, 9i on Windows.
    Thanks, John

    Hi piontkdd
I do this in 9i all time, without using duplicate.
    General idea:
Copy rman backups to test server
create dummy init.ora with production database name.
if you want, SET NEWNAME for different filesystem and restore datafiles.
    Recover database. Open database.
alter database rename global_name to 'whatever'
shutdown and then mount. use nid.sh to change the DBID and Database name (Can't remember how you do this on windows). shutdown and set up your new spfile/init.ora and change your services with oradim.exe
could you elaborate the same steps i have the scenario to make sure my production database works fine in case of any disaster , on the production machine itself i have to restore database.

    databases.

    Hi George,
According to your description, When you move a database from one server that is running SQL Server to another server that is running SQL Server, a mismatch may occur between the security identification numbers (SIDs) of the logins in the master database
and the users in the user database. As other post, you can use the sp_change_users_login stored procedure to map SQL Server logins. Also , you can use the following statement after doing the restore database. It will
fix the mis-mapped SID inside the restored DB.
    ALTER USER <username> WITH LOGIN = <username>

  • Need to test Production Backups on another server.

    Dear Expert,
Our SAP Production server is running on HP-UX in cluster mode (ECC 6.0 with oracle 10g). We have sheduled Incremental database online backup (daily) and Full database online + redolog backup (on sunday) on disk, and getting successfull backups.
Now we wanted to test our backup, as it is a running production server so wanted to try on diffrent server.
So we are installing new server on windows 64bit machine with  orale database. Our plane is to copy backupfiles  of production server to newly installed server and try to restore it.
We need your suggetions on it and the correct way to test the backups if any.
As it is highly important activity, so please revert ASAP.
    Regards,
    Ajit

    Hi Ajit,
I would recommend to test this scenario on HP-UX system only as your production server is on the same operating system.
If there is no urgency for testing the production backup, you can wait until your Quality Server refresh cycle.
You can refresh the Quality server using online/offline backup restore method (backup of production server).
This way, you will get 2 benefits..
    1. Your Quality server will be refreshed with production data
    2. You can test Production backup consistancy more efficiently.

  • Restore RMAN Backup

    Dear All,
I am practicing Oracle Restore scenarios on my Oracle 9i database. Once I complete my tests in Oracle 9i I will move up to 10g and then finally to 11g.
    Following is my recovery scenario:
    1) I did NOT configure Recovery Catalog
    2) I would like to restore my databse from a 15 days old backup
    3) control_file_record_keep_time is set to 7 days.
    4) Backups are on tape.
Can you guys please shed some light on how to I proceed?
