Restore SQL on another Server

Hi All,
I have an ECC 6 running on SQL 2005, Windows Server 2003 R2, I want to restore the same DB to another ECC 6 server, and connect it to the restored SQL DB. for that purpose I prepared the new machine with new ECC 6 installation and then i restored my SQL DB to this new machine, but ECC wont start, it turn green for a while but then into yellow and then stopped.
Can anyone help regrading to the above, are there any procedures i shall follow after data restore so i can make ECC work?
Thank you all,

are you running your SAP instance using a domain user or local user?
If domain user - is the user SysAdmin in SQL?  Or at least granted full DB OWNER access to the SAP DB?
If local user - have you verified the user has access to the SAP DB?  If the user is there, the DB SID may not match up, you may need to run a sp_change_users_login to sync up the DB SID.
Also, post the dev_ms, dev_disp, and dev_w0 files from your work directory.

  • How can I install a new license  restored system to another server

I have restored a backup of an existing system to another server to create a lab system. How do I log in so that I can get a new license key for that hardware id? I've tried removing SAP* from usr02 but it has a j2ee engine also and my thought it the abap and j2ee side aren't matching up? Please help!

That does not work for the newer versions anymore. I'll see if I can find the version threshold.
Nowadays you must use tr. SLICENSE so logging on as sap* is probabely the only way.....
    Addition:
Note 870871 tells a lot more about installing licenses.

  • Data deduplicated volumes. What happens if they are moved to another server?

I have a server with it's OS disk in a Raid1. It's data deduplicated volumes are in a raid 10 via a separate raid controller. What happens if the OS disks fail? can the OS be re-installed without the data being lost on the deduplicated volumes?

Yes, deduplication is completely portable between the systems. See:
Data Deduplication in Windows Server 2012
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2012/05/21/introduction-to-data-deduplication-in-windows-server-2012.aspx
    3) Portability: A
volume that is under deduplication control is an atomic unit. You can back up the volume and restore it to another server. You can rip it out of one Windows 2012 server and move it to another. Everything that is required to access your data is located on the
drive. All of the deduplication settings are maintained on the volume and will be picked up by the deduplication filter when the volume is mounted. The only thing that is not retained on the volume are the schedule settings that are part of the task-scheduler
engine. If you move the volume to a server that is not running the Data Deduplication feature, you will only be able to access the files that have not been deduplicated.
    Hope this helped :)

  • How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012

How to restore SQL Server 2008 database to SQL Server Express 2012.
I BACKED UP a SQL Server 2008 database from work, which runs the enterprise version of 2008, and I tried to RESTORE it to my new 64-Bit home PC which is running the new SQL Server Express 2012 64-Bit (Advanced Edition).
But if fails. I get the following message text.
Can anyone help me please. I thought restoring a 2008 database to the later version 2012 would be possible.
Here is the error message. Thanks.
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
    Restore of database failed. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.RelationalEngineTasks)
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The database was backed up on a server running version 8.00.2039. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 11.00.3128. Either restore the database on a server that supports the backup, or use a
backup that is compatible with this server. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended)

Are you sure your database is SQL server 2008 from error message it seems your SQL server version is 2000.I guess you have multiple versions of SQL server.
AFAIK you cannot restore backup of SQL server 2000 to 2012 directly .Restore it first to SQL 2008/2008R2 or 2005 then take backup again of new database created and then you would be able to restore it on 2012.Its kind of intermediate way
Also make sure your DB size is less than 10 G as max DB size supported by Express edition is 10 G and if your DB size is more than 10 G restore will fail.
You are also trying to restore enterprise DB backup on express edition so you will loose enterprise features on express edition

  • How to test restore in another server?

    Hi,
I want to test full backup (hot backup using RMAN) of my DB (11.2 SE) on another server (I didn't install DB on yet).
    Saad,

to test the backup -which is done by third party softwareHow you restore really depends on how you backup the database !
Without knowing how the backup is done it would be incorrect to advice a single method to test restoration.
Nevertheless, you need to start with an installation of Oracle software (RDBMS, Binaries) on the new test server. You would have to install the same Oracle RDBMS Release and Version as the one that is running in your production server (where the backup was taken). If the third party software incorporates media management libraries, you'd need to install and configure them as well. Thereafter, the restore command depends on how the backup is done.

  • Can't restore SQL 2005 BAK to SQL 2008 R2 running on Server 2012

    Hi there,
Preparing to switch from SQL 2005/Server 2003 to SQL 2008 R2 / Server 2012.   Took a backup of the SQL database on 2005 (stored at a cloud backup provider nightly) and copied to the new machine.  Unable to restore the .BAK file, with the error:
The media family on device <backup path> is incorrectly formed.  SQL Server cannot process this media family.
RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally.  (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3241)
Tried it with two different backup files from two different nights, same error.  I understand that this error can show up when restoring to a lower version of SQL, but that's not the case here.
Also, I know this can occur if the BAK file is corrupt, and I can't verify that yet, but two in a row failed.  I'm hoping our cloud solution isn't part of the problem somehow.
BAK file is 15 Gb in size, so don't have the ability to attempt the restore on the 2005 production server.   Just not enough room, and can't afford to cause performance issues on that box anyway.
Anyone know of any way to get a better handle on what's going on, or, even better, how to resolve it?
    Thanks
    Robin

  • Restore essbase.sec file to another server

    Dear all,
I've restored several databases from our Develop server to another server.
But can I just copy security file to that server?
My concern is they have different numbers of app/db, will the security file work?
if it doesnt work, how can I recover the security file of a certain database?
Thank you in advance for your help!!

    Singlejoe,
You are going to have problems if you don't match up the app/dbs on your target server.
Assuming that your source dev server has more databases than the target, before you copy over, create dummy apps/dbs on the target. Stop Essbase, and backup your to-be-replaced Essbase.sec. (A just-in-case copy to retain whatever security, filters, etc. you may have).
If you have more/different apps/dbs on your target, I would archive them (full backup to text, copy all relevant artifacts, etc.) and then delete. Then follow the paragraph above. The point is to make the app/db folders look exactly the same to Essbase.sec.
Then copy over your source Essbase.sec to your target, delete the dummy apps/dbs and you should be good to go.

  • Restore database noarchivelog to another server in ASM

I have to migrate a database 10g with noarchivelog with filesystem to another server with ASM.
Could you help me to do it?
    Thanks.

ok, I put the database in archivelog but I don`t understando the link "http://www.oracleflash.com/10/How-to-migrate-Oracle-datafiles-to-ASM-storage-via-RMAN.html".
First, I have moved the database to the new server, now I have the database with filesystem but in the final server with archivelog. OK.
    The steps are:
first, I have to modify the parameters of db_create_file_dest, etc, to +ASM.
I hve to shutdown the database, open nomount, restore controlfile and backup as copy.
    Is it correct?,
one question, the restore controlfile, I suppose that I have to have a previous backup with filesystem of controlfile?
    Thanks.

  • Restoring Database from tape to another server

    Hi

Like, we have one Oracle database on linux server XYZ and it is backed up to Tape using RMAN. And we need to restore the same database to server ABC.Do we need to modify any environment variables and such so that restore is done ? Or does it work straight away in this different server too ?

  • Error while duplicate database from one server to another server

    Hi there,
I am practicing duplicate database from one single database server to another server. Hardware and driver path on 2 machines is the same. Here are my steps:
    --------------------- Clone site:
    1. modify listener.ora with content:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost.localdomain)(PORT = 1521))
    ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /u01/app/oracle

    2. stop and start listener again, message show like :
    Service “orcl” has 1 instance(s).
Instance “orcl”, status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service…
    The command completed successfully
    3. create pfile from spfile.
    4. shutdown and startup nomount with pfile is new pfile create from step 3.
    --------------------------------------- Source site
    1. modify tnsnames.ora with content like:
