Restoring new iPad to last sync with old iPad

I just replaced my iPad due to battery issue. When I connect to iTunes to restore using backup it states the software is to old on the new one (guess it does not have 4.2). It suggests I start as a new install, upgrade software then go back and restore to old...my question is does it matter what I name the new one and can I delete it later after restoring to the name of my old iPad or does it matter? Thanks.

I would give the new iPad a different name for the time being before your finally restore from the backup of the old iPad to avoid possible problems (I doubt you have to do that but I would not take the chance) . After you restore you can just click on the name of the iPad in the left-hand side of iTunes under Devices and change the name like you would a file name.

The new drive recognizes the iMac, and the photos on the iPad were successfully imported into iPhoto, but 2 home videos on the iMac will not transfer. Are you saying that the Purchased Tab of the App Store is not showing the purchase of Quick Office Pro? Are you looking in the purchased tab? If it shows as being purchased - download it again.
Make sure that you are signed into the correct account on your iPad in Settings>Store - make sure that you are signed into the correct account.

In short. No, you cannot unsync. If you had a back up from your old iPhone you cand restore from a back up.
In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Devices > and select the latest back up.
Before you synced your phone did you have it set up with the PhotoStream or iCloud? The pictures would be saved there. Or if you had them sync to a file on your computer.

If you have installed GB and iMovie on the iPad 1 and synced using iTunes, just sync the those apps to the newer iPad with iTunes. No re purchase necessary with the same iTunes account.

Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.

Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.

Sure, as soon as you open iTunes with the new iPod connected, it will have a "Welcome to your New iPod" screen. Just choose Restore from backup.

Thanks. I got the problem fixed. Spent time with the Apple folks and was kicked up to a senior advisor. It seems the problem was with my internet provider - Tmie Warner. Remember I could use the old ipad and the iphone to send mail. I checked all the specifics between the three units. It seems that TW is changing over from the RR.com to TWC.com. Since the new ipad air was just set up, it fell under the new TWC mail specifics.

I'm not understanding what you're wanting. You don't sync ipad to iPad. You can sync both devices to the same iTunes account or same computer.
And you can choose the content on each device. I have an iPod and iPad and maintain separate content on each one.

You can't use an external hard drive like you would with a computer.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
When you first connect the USB flash drive, you will only see thumbnails of the pics on the iPad; you have to import the pic file to see the full size. With your large library of pics, you will have to do this repeateably and then delete pics so you don't exceed your memory capacity.
