Restrict core for each instance

can we restrict core for each instance while creating database
Note: if we have 8 core of which i suppose to assign 4 core alone to single instance ,  is if possible to assign
can anyone help on this

There are actually two ways depending on the OS, database version and edition you are using:
With Linux and Solaris Oracle most recently announced (11.2.0.4) the support for cgroups (control groups on Linux with kernel >= 2.6.32) or resource pools (Solaris >= 11 SRU 4). From my perspective it is the best resource throtteling you can have for an Oracle database and it works with all Editions (Enterprise, Standard, Standard One). Further information can be found on my blog (www.carajandb.com/blogs) in both English an German.
The other mechanism it instance caging (available since 11.2.0.1) which uses the parameter cpu_count to limit the number of CPUs for a single instance. But this is available for Enterprise Edition only in combination with the resource manager.

Thanks in advance.Pretty normal. The "unknown" is the static registration coming from the SID_LIST entry in the listener.ora file. The "ready" is the dynamic registration from the db instance itself.

  • Separate UNDO tablespace for each instance

    Version: 10.2.0.4, 11.2.0.2
I've noticed that there is an UNDO tablespace for each instance in RAC. Since UNDO tablespace lies in the shared storage, isn't it better to have just one UNDO tablespace for all instances?

I've noticed that there is an UNDO tablespace for each instance in RAC. Since UNDO tablespace lies in the shared storage, isn't it better to have just one UNDO tablespace for all instances? Each instance in the RAC system can only use one undo tablespace at a time. In other words, instances cannot share undo tablespaces. Each instance in the cluster, being an independent transaction-processing environment, maintains its own UNDO area for undo management.
Either automatic undo management or rollback segment undo can be used to manage undo space. If the automatic rollback method will be used, set the global parameter undo_management to auto in the server parameter file, and set the undo_tablespace parameter to assign the undo tablespace to the instance.
The RAC system allows the creation and use of several undo tablespaces. When the instance is started, it uses the first available undo tablespace. A second instance will use another undo tablespace. Thus, each instance in a RAC system will have exclusive access to a particular undo tablespace at a given time. The undo tablespace cannot be shared among the instances at the same time. Only once an undo tablespace is released by an instance, it can be assigned to another instance. However, all instances can read blocks from any or all undo tablespaces for the purpose of constructing read-consistency images.

  • Executing a message mapping for each instance of a sub-message

    Hi,
I have a message struct like the following.
    MT_TEST (1..1)
             |----
    >IDOC (1..Unbounded)
There is a field in each instance of Idoc, depending on its value, I need to perform receiver determination.
The target for each IDOC instance will be different for each value of the field.
How do I write a XPath expression to achieve this?
Also, is there any other method of achieving the same goal?
    Cheers,
    Earlence

Hmmm.. so idoc is at source side..... Ok so multiple idocs are coming in one bundle BUT you cannot just divide the payload based on some conditions in Receiver Determination.
In your mapping you can map the source date to different targets but that is different thing.
Note: You can either send the whole payload to one receiver or nothing. You cannot send a part of the payload to 2 different receivers.
So it means it doesn't seems to be possible.

  • 1 server, multiple oracle_homes for each instance (dev, test, uat, etc)...

    Hello,
We have one beefy server to hold our dev and test and maybe more non-production databases. My plan was to install separate oracle_homes for each so that I can patch and only affect one instance at a time. Is anybody else doing this? Does this sound right? Any gotchas that you have run into with this type of environment?
I read something about you should only have one active listener...
Same concept, but with the ASM instance. Can I also install multiple oracle_homes for each asm instance on the same box? Is anybody else doing this? Again any gotchas people have run into to? For ASM, should I also have only one active listener?
Am I right that the only thing that affects all instances is at the OS, hardware level such as Linux patches, anything to do with users, groups, shared folders, nics, etc?
    Thank you for your input!

For ASM, should I also have only one active listener?ASM does NOT require any listener & none should exist for ASM.

  • What do I need to set in order for each instance of the step type in the sequence to act individually?

I'm not able to change parameters on one step without it changing the parameters on another instance of the step within the same sequence.  Is there something in the step type properties that I need to set to change this?
For instance, I have created a custom step called "Battery PWR" that the user can insert into a sequence, hit the "edit" button, set a control in a GUI to 12V and hit an "Okay" button so that the post-step condition causes the power supply voltage to change.  Then, later in the sequence I want the user to be able to insert the same custom step, hit the edit button, set the control to 0V and hit an "Okay" button so that the post-step conditition causes the power supply to go to 0V.  The problem is, when the user edits one of the steps, it causes the other step to change to the same value.
I know that this has a simple fix, just can't seem to find it.

I answered my own question.  I was reading and writing to a file global instead of the step parameters, so I was basically overwriting my variables each time I edited the step.  I'm obviously a novice TestStand user.

  • Is it possible to require a security password to be entered only one time for each instance of a pdf

How I imagine it to work:
I receive a secured pdf; I open it and enter the password. I am able to open the pdf again without password restrictions. If I copy the pdf I am required to enter a password the copy

Passwords are set when the document is created in Acrobat, and as far as I know they MUST be applied each and every time the document is opened. In other words, it doesn't and can't use cookies to remember that you've already entered it, because there are none in the OS.

  • What is the AzureVM bandwidth throttling for each instance size?

While uploading multi-GB VHDs to Azure Blob storage from an AzureVM in the same region I've discovered the following uplink network throttling.
    Basic_A0 size: 5Mbps
    Basic_A1 size: 100Mbps
I would like to get this closer to 1000Mbps, even 500Mbps would be adequate.  The only
Azure documentation that I can find only provides bandwidth information for the Standard_DS series (which is expressed in MB per second).  However I would like to know what uplink bandwidth is available to Standard Tier A and D series.

    Hi Martin;
When we create certain sized VMs, the NICs associated with them are throttled for outbound traffic. However this is only a figurative scale the actual throughput would
be dependent on the other factors like your ISP also if other tenants are throttling, the speed would vary.  Hope
    this helps.

  • Need to set "Title", "Display Name" and "Name" fields to custom string property "RMA Number" for each instance of custom work item

    Hi,
We have a custom Work Item we use to track RMA's. I've created a string property called RMA Number which is also used as a key.
RMAs do not have titles or any other identifying properties other than the unique RMA number (think incident number).
I was wondering what the best approach would be to set these other fields ("Title", "Display Name" and "Name") to the RMA Number value (RMAXXX), as I'm currently investigating using a powershell script via a workflow.
    Thanks,
    Pietro

    Hi Marcel,
I've come up with the following:
    # Load the SMlets module
    Import-Module SMlets
    # Get the RMA Class
    $RMAClass = Get-SCSMObject -Class (Get-SCSMClass -Name MyWorkItem$)
    foreach ($RMA in $RMAClass)
    $RMANumber = $RMA.RMANumber
    $RMA | Set-SCSMObject -PropertyHashtable @{"DisplayName" = $RMANumber; “Title” = $RMANumber; ”Description” = $RMANumber; }
Is it possible to make it aware of which RMA work item executed it, and only update that one? Updating all the records each time a new one is created will cause some problems in the future.
    Thanks,
    Pietro

  • Using an IF Statement in Numbers on Entire Column for Each Value that is True

    Hi,
I am trying to create a formula to help calculate a chart chart.
I need to gather the SUM of Column A for Each instance that Column B of the same row is =TRUE. I need to do it in the most general way possible as this formula will be gathering information from multiple tables and creating a sum.
    For Instance:
    TABLE 1
    Column A
    Column B
    5
    True
    3
    False
    4
    True
    1
    False
    TABLE 2
    Column A
    Column B
    5
    True
    3
    False
    4
    True
    1
    False
The result I am looking for would be 18.
    Thanks for any input.

    JE,
Here's an expression that you could use:
    =SUM(SUMIF(Table 1 :: B:B, TRUE, Table 1 :: A:A), SUMIF(Table 2 :: B:B, TRUE, Table 2 :: A:A), and so forth for additional tables)

  • Multiple port for one instance

    hello there,
    Here is my requirement...
If one of my master ldap went down for couple of hours and when i bring it up... all the arrowpoint traffic is routed immediately to this server and hence whatever changes happend in the secondary server was not showing up immediately in this primary master server. To avoid this issue.. can i use a different port for replication only and once the replication is completed , then i want to allow the client to access the main port.
Is it possible? Any idea? Thank you for anyone input.
    SS

    1. EITHER multi-home your network card so that it has multiple IP addresses
Launch each instance of ldap with the commandline option to bind this instance to a particular IP address
    2. OR provide alternate ports for each instance of ldap
This is easier to do . However, it is not recommended for production systems. Usually used in development.
If the scenario is production environment use first method.
If it is a development environment try the second.
See the port properties. Check the ldap port settings.
NOTE: ldap has a known bug. To fix this get into sun site. This bug is fixed.
    Thanks

  • BPM Application requires auto claim for worklist instances

    Hi All
Our BPM application (SOA 11g), requires that the BPM instances in the worklist be auto claim enabled for each instance. The reason for this is that each instance is an ADF form that has 2 very distinct outcomes. Having set the human task(based on which the ADF forms are built) in the BPM workflow, to auto-claim enabled, I still notice that the instances are not claimed when open. The forms can be open by multiple users concurrently which is not an acceptable solution by the client from a security point of view. We need to enable auto claim as part of our BPM administration for each instance.
Is there a way within the BPM Administration that this can be done?
Any suggestions programatically or via the tool?
    Many Thanks
    Preethi

    Hi,
Are you using  your own certificates for SSL? If yes,you must remove references to the demo certificates by removing the following line from the setDomainEnv file for your version of the operating system.
    -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore=${WL_HOME}/server/lib/DemoTrust.jks
Also check that  the path for truststore are properly set in setDomainEnv.sh/Cmd file.

  • Dynamic memory allocation on HP-UX for multiple instances on one host

    Hi everyone,
I was wondering what the current possibilities are nowadays on running multiple SAP instances on one very large host with regard to resource sharing. Normally, for each instance, using PHYS_MEMSIZE etc you have to set the memory to a fixed size and then optimize it.
Preferrably we would like the memory to be allocated based upon actual usage. Is that possible at all? on HP-UX? Using third party techniques?
    Thank you
    Marcel Rabe

    Hello Marcel,
As Juan said you may not be able to change the parameters at runtime.
The only parameters that can be dynamically switched are :
    ztta/roll_first
    ztta/roll_extension
    ztta/roll_area
    abap/heap_area_dia
    abap/heap_area_nondia
    abap/heap_area_total
    em/stat_log_size_MB
    em/stat_log_timeout
These parameters would put a cap on memory allocations, however they wouldn't help increase the total addressable memory area.
I would suggest that you consider Adaptive Computing for dynamic use of resources.

  • Firefox will not run for mulitple instances of the SAME user account on Windows Multipoint Server 2011

We have an HP MS6200 MulitSeat PC
It is running Microsoft Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 (which appears to be a tweaked version of Windows 7)
It is set up in a computer lab, and students log in using their shared room account - ie multiple instances of the same user accounts are running on the PC at the same time.
The first student to run Firefox can work with it without problem.
However when another student tries to start firefox they get the following message:
Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I managed to get this to work by using:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profile "%temp%\ffprof" -no-remote
This works because Windows assigns a different temp location for each instance of a user
    Thanks for your help

  • Server 2012 Standard license and VM license for windows instances

    Hi,
A question about VM instances on standard server 2012 license exists here
I  cannot link it here as my account is not verified. The topic is titled "Windows Server 2012 Standard License and VMs"
    My question is tad different...
If I understand this correctly, 1 windows server standard license provides support for 1 Physical Operating System Environment (The VM Host /  POSE) and permission to run 2 Virtual Operating System Environment(VOSE).
Does this imply that I can install 2 additional instances of Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition on the permitted 2 VM instances on the server? Or... should I purchase additional licenses for each VOSE that runs windows?
Does the standard license provide rights to run  2 Virtual instances AND offer install and activation rights for 2 MS windows (virtual) environments AND install and activation rights for the windows host?
If license is require for each instance of server 2012 running on the VM ... can I avoid purchasing additional licenses for operating systems, say, if I run 2 Centos operating system instances in 2 VOSE?
    Please help!
    Thanks.

Licensing questions should be asked of a trained Microsoft licensing specialist.  I haven't seen one of those lurking in this forum.  www.microsoft.com/licensing.
That said, licenses are assigned to the physical host, not to VMs.  The License you assign to the host grants you the "right to run" addition virtual operating system environments running Windows Server.  It does not grant you additional licenses.
Licensing for Microsoft Windows Server operating system is controlled by Microsoft.  Licensing for any other operating system is not covered by the virtualization rights of the Windows Server operating system.  Therefore, if the CentOS virtual machines
are properly licensed by whoever licenses them, you can run however many instances that license allows.
A single Standard Edition license can be installed on the physical host granting you the right to run up to two virtual instances of Standard Edition.  However, if you run additional services, such as file services or Active Directory or IIS, etc.,
on the physical instance, that means you can only run one additional virtual instance of Windows Server.
Free advice is worth every cent.
