Returned my Macbook!

Let me tell you my story. I received my 1st Macbook on Friday from an apple reseller. (SN 13) This was dead on arrival. I was on the phone with tech support going through all of his tests and I noticed a loud sound (whine) and the macbook was very very very hot. I had to take it off my lap. He told me that I had to send my brand new macbook in for a hard drive replacement and It would be 10 business days. Since I bought it from a reseller I contacted them to get it replaced. They normally do not accept returns but they have been getting lots of complaints so they over nighted me a new one.
While waiting for my return that night I hopped on my pc and came here. That is when I saw that everyone else was having the same problems as myself. This is not good for me being that I work on pc's for a living and I am making the switch to a mac. This is not a good first impression.
Well, the second macbook arrives (SN 13). This mac is even hotter then the first one and the whine is horrible. I install all updates and firmware 1.01 last night. Well, this thing has been getting very hot and it started to lock up. I contacted support and they had me run a hardware test. I get the following error: 4MOT/1/40000002: Left_Middle-Front. So once again they want me to send away my brand new macbook for 10 business days. I asked him for a replacement but he refused.
I give up.... I contacted my reseller and they are giving me a full refund. My reseller (CDW) has been excellent. They specifically told me that they did not take returns when I bought the first one. They have been nice enough to not only send a replacement the first time but refund me this time.
Just wanted to vent a little and to warn people. I think that if you are planning to purchase a macbook to WAIT. I will give apple another shot but not until they fix these issues.
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I bought a week 16 about 2 weeks ago. It was brand new and i purchased it from an apple store. During the first two days I had 2 kernel panics. My mbp also randomly went to sleep on me during the use of applications. I also had apple apps shutting down unexpectedly. I called apple support and the told me that if it happened again to take it to the store. I happened again and I took it back a week after purchase. While I was at the genius bar explaining my problems, the computer went to sleep. It was perfect timing. He saw that I have had several kernel panics and replaced my machine with a brand new one w/o any hassle.
The new one is a week 17 and so far so good.

  • Can I return my Macbook Pro and get a refund?

I bought my Macbook Pro 2 weeks ago (July 16th). I bought it with the student discount, and they also gave me a 100 dollar gift card to the Apple Store. I would like to return my macbook and get a refund however, because I see that a new macbook pro came out. It has better specs and costs the same price. What the heck! Anyways, can I return this laptop and then buy the new one?

The return period is 14 days.
You are very close to that now.
If you really want to do that get down to theApple Store fast and you might still be able to do it.
Personally with the difference between the two models, I don't see it as that big of a deal to get the newer model.

  • Can i return my macbook pro that i got early september for an imac?

i was wondering if i can return my macbook pro that i got about 4 months ago and pay the restocking fee for a 24" aluminum imac. can someone answer my question please

    Good Morning,
I'm afraid you have gone beyond the standard return policy and thus will not be able to return the product for a refund.
For more information, please visit the [Apple Return Policy|http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID ?nnmm=browse&mco=735D05D9&node=help/returns_refund] webpage.

  • Can I return my MacBook Air past the return date?

Hi, I have a question that I've been googling but I haven't been able to find an answer to anywhere. Can I return a MacBook Air past the return date to an Apple store if it is still in shrink-wrap and I have a receipt? Thanks.

I would think you cannot return a product after the return date has passed.
Call the Apple Store and ask them.

  • Can i return my macbook pro after 5 months

can i return my macbook pro after 5 months

If you bought it direct from Apple, you have 14 days to return it for a full refund or toward the purchase of a different model.
After that time, if it is broken it can be repaired. If it does not suit your needs and cannot be upgraded to suit your needs, you recourse is to convert it to CASH by selling it, and apply the cash toward a computer that better suits your needs.

  • Macbook Pro Return for Macbook Pro Retina Display

I wanted to know if I can still return my Macbook Pro which I purchased in May 2012 and receive the Retina Display Pro as an exchange.  It sounds like a stretch but the employees at the store said nothing of new product development to me which is pretty deceiving.  I'm still well within the warranty limits for both technical support and the 1 year warranty.  Whether or not it's a yes or no answer, does anyone have any information on this type of exchange or know of it happening successfully?

No, you won't be able to exchange your computer. The Retina display was not announced until June 11, 2012, so there was nothing deceptive going on. While Apple has a reuse and recycle program, you're likely to get less than $1,000 for your computer through that program. Your best best would be to sell your old machine on eBay and put the money towards a Retina display model, if that's what you want.
    Good luck,

Can return uk macbook pro to US possible? with in 14 days?

I'm kind of thinking that your best option to try is calling apple. I wonder if the stores are really equipped to handle this type of return. As Kappy stated, since this is such an unusual request you best option is try (and post your results here )

  • Has anyone else had problems returning a macbook to Apple?

I apologize if this is not the right place to be asking such a question, but I was not sure where else to go for information. I returned my macbook on December 29th 2014, the day after it was purchased. I had the receipt, all the cords and accessories, everything I needed to return the computer. The amount that was owed to me was over 1400 dollars and so they said it would have to come by check in the mail. The Apple return policy says that this should take 10 days. The apple store I went to (the retail store at South Shore Plaza in Braintree, MA) said to allow 2 weeks for the check to come in. It's been two weeks and still no refund. I am getting very worried now. I went back to the store and they just told me to call apple support. When I called apple support they transferred me back to the same store. Then someone at that store told me to just wait longer and that there was nothing they could do about it. This company owes me 1400 dollars. Has anybody else had problems returning items? How long did you have to wait for your refund to come in the mail?

I usually purchase by CC and refunds do take longer than purchases.  This is not just Apple - it's everybody!  I returned diamond ear ring ($1200) also on the 29th of December and made a purchase while at the store.  My CC reported the purchase immediately but the refund took a week.
Today is EXACTLY two weeks since you returned the unit.  If I were you, I'd give it a few days and then take a trip to the store.

  • Returning the macbook for a higher level macbook?!?!??!

    Hi all,
I just got my macbook 13 aluminum (2.0 GHz) on 14th April 2009 which was supposed to be delivered to me on 7th April, but because my office was closed so I got my macbook on 14th Arpil 2009. I would like to ask if I can return the current one and get a higher level one which is macbook 13 aluminum (2.4 GHz), as I found that the backlight keyboard is great and I want my macbook with faster performance. In fact, I returned my macbook to Apple before because there was a scratch on the keyboard, and Apple gave me a new macbook 13 aluminum which I am currently using now. So because I got my macbook on 14th instead of 7th because of the delivery problem, base on the 15 days policy, should the date starts on 7th or 14th? And am I suppose to return it and get a higher level one, i am willing to pay more for that.
    Thanks!

You'll need to contact Apple on that. There are a few ways they can handle it. First of all, they usually consider your original purchase date for returns. If you have had yours replaced, the replacement date is not usually considered the original purchase date... so you're likely past your 14 day return period. If they make an exception, as you know, you typically have 14 days to make a return... that return period should commence on the date you accept delivery of the product. Provided you have documentation to show when the product was delivered, they may commence the 14 day period from that time. There is also generally a 10% restocking fee for returned products. The only way to know for sure is to contact Apple. This is just a user-to-user forum and Apple will not respond directly to comments posted here.

  • Can I return my macbook air that I brought during the holidays (Thanksgiving)

I was gifted a Macbook air during the thanksgiving season, and since I am a computer science developer ( a student to be precise), I want to return my Mac and opt in for a Windows machine ( so that I can get enough software support if needed, there are several people around me with a pc). I was wondering, how can I return my laptop ? What are the terms and conditions ?
    Thank you in advance.

I would think you cannot return a product after the return date has passed.
Call the Apple Store and ask them.

  • Could I Return the Macbook if...?

I've been reading the numerous posts regarding the mooing and whining of the macbook. It's extremely important to me to have a Macbook that runs silent. I've been hearing some report there is a whining and mooing, others report no sound at all. If I order it, and it comes and I notice the whining and/or mooing, would this be grounds for return? Or would Apple say something along the lines of, "that's expected," thus I'm stuck with the noisy Macbook. Thanks for your time in reading the post.

What it boils down to is if you have a "stock"
configuration you can return it (within 14 days I
believe) no questions asked. It doesn't matter if
it's just you don't like the color. You'll be charged
    a "restocking" fee.
All that goes out the window if there's a problem. If
you buy a "custom" configuration and say the HD poops
out then you'll still be taken care of. You're not
abandoned from receiving warranty help because it's
    not a stock MacBook.
ofcourse....i certainly wasn't suggesting that. i was merely pointing out that a "noisey" macbook doesn't mean it's a faulty machine. and if he bought online, upgraded the ram, apple found that the noise was "normal" and he still didn't like it....there are no returns on opened CTO machines. i know this from experience.

  • Can I return my MacBook Air for a full refund

I bought a MacBook Air on the 10th of December and I am disappointed about its lack of power especially as I was going to buy a MacBook Pro but I was advised at the apple store to get a MacBook Air as they thought it would suit my needs better. Will I be able to take the laptop back and get a full refund and use the money towards a MacBook Pro?

No, the Apple store only has a 14 day return policy.

  • Should i return my macbook pro 13 inch and get the baseline 13 inch air?

i recently bought the 13 inch baseline mbp non retina. I am majoring in mechanical engineering and thsi will be my junior year so my main programs i will be using will be matlab, c++, and maple. I was wondering if i should return this and get the new macbook air 13inch with the 128 gb ssd.  my main concerns are that the processor is not powerful enough and the ram is too low and the hard drive is too small. let me know what you think. some things that i really like are the battery life and the new wifi? Please give me any information that could help my decision. I do plan on upgrading my ram from 4gb to 8gb in a few weeks.

If you buy an AIR, you will be locked into whatever it has. For life. The regular model can be upgraded in both the RAM and the drive, be it an HDD or an SSD.
If you determine you need better graphics performance, get a 15" regular instead. Has twin GPUs and vastly better graphics results.
