Returning results of a method 2x

Hi.
I have an applet that calls a method twice in the init() . Each time the method is called, two different boolean parameters are passed to it. At the end of the method is a return statement which returns the results of an integer multi-variable called grid. However for some reason Java doesn't seem to call the method twice, but instead assigns the second call from memory. Can someone please let me know how to fix this problem.
//Declare variables and Data Types
int[][][] grid = new int[16][16][3];
int[][][] player = new int[16][16][3];
int[][][] computer = new int[16][16][3];
//setUpPlayer()
public int[][][] setUpPlayer(boolean ispc) {
// ... Code That Generates the grid ...
return grid;
//Init()
public void init()     {
player = setUpPlayer(false);
computer = setUpPlayer(true);
}So why are the computer and player objects the same. That is, why is player[16][16][3] = computer[16][16][3] = grid[16][16][3] ? Shouldn't the return statement be different every time the setUpPlayer() is called ?????????????
Please help.

Since your setupPlayer returns grid, no matter how many times you call it it will return grid - unless you have another variable called grid in the method, which will take precedence over the class variable. It appears that you do not have one, so it will always return grid

  • How to get the result of a method on a page

    I use JDeveloper 11g
    I want the result of a method (String) in the ApplicationModule on a page (jspx)

    But, it does not work, I don't get the result of the method on the screen.
    Who can help me with this?

    Hi,
    Simple example below:
    Suppose you have this method in AppmoduleImpl:
    public void testHello( ) {
    return "Hello";
    1.After you expose this to clientInterface,drop this method on the jspx page as ADF Parameter
    form
    2.Drop the return String as outputText
    3.Run the page,click on the commandButton & the outputText returns 'Hello'

  • Simple RFC call not returning results

    Hi,
    I have created a VERY simple Dynpro project to return the results of a simple RFC.  I've created the JCO connections and they test fine but the RFC doesn't return results to my application.
    Steps:
    1. create the project
    2. import the RFC Adaptive Model specifying the JCO connections
    3. Create an application
    4. Add the rfc model to the "Models Used"
    5. Bind the model to the component
    6. Context map two variables to the view (one input and one output)
    7. Create the method on the component
    8. Bound the UI elements to the model
    9. Set up the JCO connections from http://portal:50000/webdynpro/welcome
    For the JCO Connection creation, I used "Application" type through a load balanced connection for the Model Data connection (WD_MODELDATA_DEST) and the "Dictionary" type for the Metadata connection (WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST).
    Code:
    1. In the wdDoInit() of the controller
    wdContext.nodeZ_Hr_Get_Perno_Input().bind(new Z_Hr_Get_Perno_Input());
    2. In the wdDoInit() of the view
    wdContext.currentContextElement():setLogin_id( "mylogon" );
    wdThis.wdGetRfcTestComponentController().executeZ_Hr_Get_Perno_Input();
    My gut tells me it's an issue with my JCO connections but I can't be sure.
    I'm using Developer Studio SP9 with Patch 1 connecting to EP6 SP9 Patch 6.  When I start the Dev Studio, however, it displays version 2.0.9, is this the same for everyone?
    I've tested the function module from SE37 and it definitely returns a value. Also, if I don't set the login_id in the wdDoInit() before executing, it gives me the error that the input variable has not been set. So, this tells me that it connected to R3 to know that the variable was not passed but it still doesn't return any value when the variable is passed.
    Any ideas??  HELP!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Okay, I'm not going crazy.  The issue was with my "simple" rfc.  When I changed the input and output to char(), it returned as expected.  I just have to figure out why the Dictionary types from R3 caused an issue.

  • The problem of return value from a method

    Hi everyone:
    I want return a value from following method. The basic idea is that I want use Num as a parameter to get a value from a field, therefore I can input this value into another database for the display purpose by using other classes. However I got error message when I compiled it.
    "method does not return a value"
    I know it is a problem, but how I can fix it? I need your help. Thanks in advance.
    Dawei
    Method:
    public int Read(int Num) {
    try{
    String qr1 = "select Record form Buffer where Record="+Num+"";
    ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery(qr1);
    while (!rs.next()){
              int result=rs.getInt(1);
    return(result);
         catch (SQLException e){
                   System.err.println("Error in inserting into database " + e);
                        System.exit(1);
    return 1;

    "select Record form Buffer ...Hopefully "form" is actually "from" in your code.
    You have three points of exit from your routine, and only two return value statements.
    1 -Return inside the while loop has a value.
    2- Return inside the exception block (not sure that '1' would be a valid number)
    3- The very end of the method, just before the last '}' does not have a return statement.
    By the way, this question has nothing to do with JDBC, so another forum might be a better place to post it.

  • Show return value of a method-call within a column of ADF table component

    Hi,
    I'm currently developing a ADF "Master Form - Detail Table" component, which displays trips of a car in master form, and all related trip-point information in detail table. This detail table contains the following fields within a row :
    - idTripPoint
    - receivedAt
    - speed
    - coordinates
    Everything is displayed well when deploying my app. What I now want to implement is one more column into my detail table, which displays the result of a method-call which gets the coordinates of the corresponding tripPoint and executes a query to find the nearest neighbour to this point. This method afterwards returns a string which contains a textual description for the coordinates (e.g. 10 km south of Hilton Plaza). This method is defined within my SessionBean and also available within the Data Control Palette.
    What I first did, was just to drag the result (String) of my getTripPointDescription(JGeometry) method to a newly created column within my details table, released it there and set the corresponding NDValue for my method. I used the id of my details table table definition in PageDef for that (${bindings.TripstripPointsList.currentRow.dataProvider.coordinates}). I don't know if this is correct.
    When deploying my app, nothing happened, because my method has never been called. So I decided to implement an invokeAction within my PageDef which calls the generated methodAction within PageDef.
    It looks like that now:
    <executables>
    <invokeAction id="callDescription" Binds="getTripPointDescription"
    Refresh="prepareModel"/>
    </executables>
    <bindings>
    <methodAction id="getTripPointDescription"
    InstanceName="TripsEJBFacadeLocal.dataProvider"
    DataControl="TripsEJBFacadeLocal"
    MethodName="getTripPointDescription"
    RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="999"
    IsViewObjectMethod="false"
    ReturnName="TripsEJBFacadeLocal.methodResults.TripsEJBFacadeLocal_dataProvider_getTripPointDescription_result">
    <NamedData NDName="tripPoint"
    NDValue="${bindings.TripstripPointsList.currentRow.dataProvider.coordinates}"
    NDType="oracle.spatial.geometry.JGeometry"/>
    </methodAction>
    </bindings>
    Now my method is called once for the coordinates of the first row of my detail table and the generated result is entered within each row.
    So how is it possible to get this standard-behaviour (within other application-frameworks) work in ADF? I just want to display a textual description of a coordinate instead of x/y coordinates within my table. And the corresponding method to get this textual description based on the x/y coordinate should be called for each row displayed in my table.
    I currently walked through all ADF-tutorials and blogs I found on the Internet, but every table example I found only displays data of the associated Entity-Bean. And method Action and accessorIterator are only used with command objects.
    Thank you,
    Thomas

    Sorry, I forgot to say which technologies I use:
    - Toplink Essentials JPA for Model layer (EJB 3.0)
    - ADF in View Layer
    I still hope someone can help me finding an answer.

  • Can I ignore a return result?

    Hi!
    I'm not too sure what am I supposed to do with situation like this.
    My CF application work just fine but suddenly the DB guy changed a stored Procedure that is used in my application.
    The changes did not cause major effects but I noticed the cfmail tags and a delete statement right after this stored procedure, is not executed anymore.
    The only different between old str. proc and new str. proc. is that the new str. proc. is now returning some result where my app. does not need.
    So in other words, after that str. proc is executed, it returns a result and my CF ignore it and I expect CF should continue on running the rest of the codes which is a CFMAIL tags and a delete statement.
    The DB guy can't do much since using the old str. proc. produced unexpected result and also according to him he doesn't have much choice since the db is set by a third party vendor where he doesn't have too much access to.
    My question is:
    I have tried to adjust my codes so that my CFMAIL and delete statement run regardless of how the new str. proc being set but I'm not so sure how to handle  the return result by this str. proc.
    Can I just ignore it?
    The adjusment I made was to put all my CF codes above this str. proc. So after all my CF codes are run, I let the str proc. run and that's the end of the process. Is this acceptable?  what can go wrong if I let this app running and ignoring the return result on every process? Please advice

    Well technically no, nothing in ColdFusion will stop working or error simply because you're ignoring a return value from a function, method or stored procedure.
    Whether this matters on a business level, only you can tell that by examining the code carefully. The fact that your code is now behaving in a different way (ie not running parts it's meant to) would imply that application-wise it actually matters a lot what the returncode is.
    If something's changes and it has an effect, it probably matters.

    I used the wait command after rfc call and it worked additionally I have used Message switch in Receive statement because RECIEVE statement was returing sy-subrc 2.

  • Text search returns results with some keywords, but not others

    This pertains to a tours website for Turkey. I've sucessfully
    set up a search form, and results page which returns results when
    multiple keywords are entered. Everything is working well, except
    when certain keywords are used. For example, the table column being
    searched for is called long_itinerary, so if anyone is interested
    in a certain site or city, it's bound to be in the long itinerary
    somewhere.
    Here's the problem, by example: When someone searches with
    the keywords Antalya, Konya, Ankara, or Adana, for example, results
    are returned from the database, and those keywords are in each
    returned tour's long itinerary.
    But certain keywords return nothing, even when they're in
    practically all of the tours, in the long_itinerary column. For
    example, Istanbul, Ephesus, and Izmir, Kusadasi and Pergamum return
    no results, even though they're there. I've gone through all of the
    most likely keywords, and these are the offenders. If, for example,
    I search with "Istanbul Ankara," I get results with tours including
    Ankara (and Istanbul, but only because the word "Ankara" is in the
    itinerary).
    First I made sure the Charset values were the same on the
    search form page and the results page. Still had the problem. Next,
    I went into the database itself, and copied the word "Istanbul"
    directly from the long_itinerary column of the database, and pasted
    it into the search function's text field, and searched again. Same
    problem--no results returned.
    I can't see any difference between the keywords which work
    correctly, and those which don't, what baffles me is that even when
    I copy a keyword directly from the database and paste it in the
    search text field, it returns no results!
    Well, I'm baffled! Any ideas what might cause this?

    Hmm -- one of my customers is a turkish building company
    (Kusadasi BTW), and when *they* add some contents to the DB,
    they´ll be entering turkish chars. It´s in particular the
    turkish "I" which is pretty different, and this is when a search
    for keywords containing a western "I" will fail.
    Could that be the problem in your case ?

  • Calling results of a method from another class

    Very very new to Java, so apologies for the lack of basic knowledge. I am making a programme with 3 classes. One class gathers details about a module. Another about the results of this module (which requires some of the information inputted for the first class). For some reason I cannot find how to use results created in the first class in this second class. How do you call the results of a method from one class in another class?
    Thanks.

    Thank you.
    I am given the following information:
    '_ModuleRecord_
    This class is used to record information about a module taken by a single student. It has a constructor that takes three parameters:
    a Module,
    an int representing the examination mark achieved by a student, and
    an int representing the coursework mark achieved by a student.
    The class has another constructor that takes a single Module parameter.'
    and the code looks like this:
    public class ModuleRecord
      public ModuleRecord(Module m, int eMark, int cMark)
      public ModuleRecord(Module m)
      } I am a bit confused by the whole thing to be honest. I assume that the Module is referring to the other class, but how do I forge the link between them here?

  • Windows 8.1 x64 Smart Search Outlook and OneNote 2013(x32) not returning results

    Is the 8.1 Smart Search([windows-key]-type)  supposed to return results from Outlook and/or OneNote?
    I am using Exchange Cached mode for Outlook if that matters.
    I have done the following to try and get results to show up:
    control panel...Indexing Options...Advanced...File Types...Index Properties and File Contents
    used indexing troubleshooter which found no problems
    control panel...Indexing Options...Advanced...Rebuild...
    used scanpst to scan my ost and make repairs.
    checked and unchecked Outlook and OneNote within index properties
    tried to go to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\username.ost properties...advanced...checked allow this file to have contents indexed. Except the next time i start outlook the check mark goes away.
    verified .pst , .ost and .pst files are all in the index service...file types... list
    Search within Outlook itself works just fine and quickly, but i would like to be able to search from the "Smart Search".  File name search is flawless.
    If it isn't supported, why is it in the indexing options that clearly work for smart search settings because I also added a location for searching where file names search works just fine(although it does seem the contents of excel/word files are
    not being indexed, but the index might still be rebuilding)
    Any help would keep some hair on my head.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    It seems that the smart search can't search the content in outlook and OneNote.
    blogs.technet.com/b/daanish/archive/2014/03/19/windows-8-101-smart-search.aspx
    The reason why Outlook and OneNote appears in the Index option tab is that Outlook and OneNote need the Windows search to help index the content in Outlook and OneNote, if we remote the outlook and onenote from Index Option tab, the search function in the
    Outlook and OneNote may not works.
    Also, smart search main focus on Settings , files, web Images, web Videos which we can select above the search box.  Another reason we suspect the design for this is the consideration for security, if we can search the emails in the smart search, that
    maybe some programs can access the content in Outlook and OneNote without authentication .
    Hope the information above help.

  • How to know that a method has been called and returning value of a method

    Hi, everyone! I have two questions. One is about making judgment about whether a method has been called or not; another one is about how to return "String value+newline character+String value" with a return statement.
    Here are the two original problems that I tried to solve.
    Write a class definition of a class named 'Value' with the following:
    a boolean instance variable named 'modified', initialized to false
    an integer instance variable named 'val'
    a constructor accepting a single paramter whose value is assigned to the instance variable 'val'
    a method 'getVal' that returns the current value of the instance variable 'val'
    a method 'setVal' that accepts a single parameter, assigns its value to 'val', and sets the 'modified' instance variable to true, and
    a boolean method, 'wasModified' that returns true if setVal was ever called.
    And I wrote my code this way:
    public class Value
    boolean modified=false;
    int val;
    public Value(int x)
    {val=x;}
      public int getVal()
      {return val;}
       public void setVal(int y)
        val = y;
        modified = true;
         public boolean wasModified()
          if(val==y&&modified==true)
          return true;
    }I tried to let the "wasModified" method know that the "setVal" has been called by writing:
    if(val==y&&modified==true)
    or
    if(x.setVal(y))
    I supposed that only when the "setVal" is called, the "modified" variable will be true(it's false by default) and val=y, don't either of this two conditions can prove that the method "setVal" has been called?
    I also have some questions about the feedback I got
    class Value is public, should be declared in a file named Value.java
    public class Value
    cannot find symbol
    symbol  : variable y
    location: class Value
    if(val==y&&modified==true)
    *^*
    *2 errors*
    I gave the class a name Value, doesn't that mean the class has been declared in a file named Value.java*?
    I have declared the variable y, why the compiler cann't find it? is it because y has been out of scale?
    The other problem is:
    Write a class named  Book containing:
    Two instance variables named  title and  author of type String.
    A constructor that accepts two String parameters. The value of the first is used to initialize the value of  title and the value of the second is used to initialize  author .
    A method named  toString that accepts no parameters.  toString returns a String consisting of the value of  title , followed by a newline character, followed by the value of  author .
    And this is my response:
    public class Book
    String title;
    String author;
      public Book(String x, String y)
       { title=x; author=y; }
       public String toString()
       {return title;
        return author;
    }I want to know that is it ok to have two return statements in a single method? Because when I add the return author; to the method toString, the compiler returns a complain which says it's an unreachable statement.
    Thank you very much!

    Lets take this slow and easy. First of all, you need to learn how to format your code for readability. Read and take to heart
    {color:0000ff}http://java.sun.com/docs/codeconv/html/CodeConvTOC.doc.html{color}
    Now as to your first exercise, most of it is OK but not this:   public boolean wasModified()
          if (val == y && modified == true)
                return true;
    y being a parmeter to the setValue method exists only within the scope of that method. And why would you want to test that anyways? If modified evaluates to true, that's all you need to know that the value has been modified. So you could have   public boolean wasModified()
          if (modified == true)
                return true;
       }But even that is unnecessarily verbose, as the if condition evaluates to true, and the same is returned. So in the final analysis, all you need is   public boolean wasModified()
          return modified;
       }And a public class has to be declared in a file named for the class, yes.
    As for your second assignment, NO you cannot "return" two variables fom a method. return means just that: when the return statement is encountered, control returns to the calling routine. That's why the compiler is complaining that the statement following the (first) return statement is unreachable.
    Do you know how to string Strings together? (it's called concatenation.) And how to represent a newline in a String literal?

    When I try to use the setting (A) or (C) as shown below, there is no results been returned but when set to setting (B), there are results been returned.
    In the returned results I can see the OfficeNumber field is been populated with values and some of them is "UK Finance".
    Setting (A)
    Result Query Options
    -- Fixed Keyword Query = contentclass:spspeople -- Append Text To Query = Department:"Finance" AND OfficeNumber:"UK Finance"
    Setting (B)
    Result Query Options
    --- Fixed Keyword Query = contentclass:spspeople --- Append Text To Query = Department:"Finance"
    Setting (C)
    Result Query Options
    --- Fixed Keyword Query = contentclass:spspeople --- Append Text To Query = OfficeNumber:"UK Finance"
    What am I doing wrong here? Am I missing something? Do I need any additional configuration in order to get this to work?
    I hope someone could help me or point me to the right direction.
    Thank you
    muges

    You might want to check the Manage User Properties area of the User Profile Service in Central Admin.
    Any properties you query on should be marked "Indexed" or "Use in Scopes".  You can also check that you are using the correct internal name for these properties.

  • How to use stored procedure which returns result set in OBIEE

    Hi,
    I hav one stored procedure (one parameter) which returns a result set. Can we use this stored procedure in OBIEE? If so, how we hav to use.
    I know we hav the Evaluate function but not sure whether I can use for my SP which returns result set. Is there any other way where I can use my SP?
    Pls help me in solving this.
    Thanks

    Hi Radha,
    If you want to cache the results in the Oracle BI Server, you should check that option. When you run a query the Oracle BI Server will get its results from the cache, based on the persistence time you define. If the cache is expired, the Oracle BI Server will go to the database to get the results.
    If you want to use caching, you should enable caching in the nqsconfig.ini file.
    Cheers,
