Reusing movie sequences in new projects?

How do I save short movie sequences I create in one project to reuse in other movies or on the web?
And then how do I re-insert them into new iMovie projects?
(example - I've made a 2-minute "music video"-type intro to my last project. I want to use that (or a slight variation on it with new titles) in subsequent projects.)

Your answer seems more what I need, because I don't
have enough HD space to keep my old projects on my
disc after I've burned them to DVD. I just want to
keep a short bit of one, and then reuse it again and
again.
Note that WWJD suggested you export just one clip to a QuickTime movie, not the entire project. Select the clip on the timeline, then check the "Share selected clips only" checkbox in the iMovie export dialog window. Export to a Full Quality movie.
Importing that movie to some other iMovie projects will deliver that clip only, not the entire project.
Be aware too of the subtle but important difference between Copying and Pasting clips between projects and using the method WWJD suggested.
When we Copy a clip from Project A and Paste it into Project B, iMovie copies the entire source FILE of that clip to Project B. If your clip is 5 seconds of what was originally a 60-second clip, iMovie copies the entire 60 second Media file to Project B. (That is so the clip inherits all the non-destructive editing features it had in Project A.) That's probably not what you want, for it keeps more stuff than you need.
Exporting the clip to a QT file strips it down to the minimum length, which is what you want. Once you've done that you can, if you wish, create a new iMovie project, import the file to it, then Copy and Paste that clip to other projects. The clip will no longer bring extraneous material along with it for it's Media file is the same length as the clip.
So if you plan to re-use a bunch of such clips, you can export each clip as WWJD suggested, then import them to a "My favorite clips" project, then Copy and Paste the clips to other projects as needed.

  • Is it better to create new sequences or new projects?

hello! i'm working on something where i have to take hours and hours of dvd videos and edit them into different parts and them export them with compressor for the web. My question is, when I'm editing these different segments that are about 30 minutes each, is it better to edit each one in the same project and make an individual sequences for each one or should i create a whole new project for each video? i don't want to make too many sequences if it's going to slow the computer down or something, I'm not really sure what to do here, thanks a lot for any help!

Make a separate project for each if they are meant to be self contained 30 minute movies.
When I work with multiple sequences, it is only to isolate a segment of a movie. The finished cut is copied into the master sequence.

  • Save and reuse elements in a new Project

Firstly, ^5 on Edge Reflow! I love it to bits!
Will you guys allow to save elements to the assets library in order to use those elements in a new Project? (not a new page in the current project.)
Guess similar to an predefined assets library where you drag and drop elements, but creating your own and saving it. Like Fireworks?
    Many Thanks!

A lot of this depends on your sequence setting and your output device.  So thoughts:
You want to get these elements to a standalone file just in case you re-install or upgrade CS4 and your project directory (and hence your template) gets erased or moved.
If, for example, your output is a DVD or BD and the standard elements are, say a logo, you could use AME to create the MPEG or H.264 that you can then import into Encore as an asset everytime you do a project.  Saves rendering time.
Otherwise, you use AME to create an export file --probably uncompressed, or at a minimum MS AVI with the corect aspect ratio and dimensions.
What I have done with standard footage in a HDV sequence, is to export with AME to a 1440 x 1081i 1.33 MPEG2 file.  At the fundamental level the HDV file (removed from the streaming envelope used with tape) is MPEG2.  (I think I remember this correctly)

  • New sequence vs new project

Hey guys, quick question. I'm putting together something that is going to end up being 12 dvd's...all separate in their own right. Each dvd will share some of the same chapters...but will still be their own entity. I have all the clips that I'm using in one project. Do I need to create 12 different projects or can I just create different sequences or does it not matter? I have an external hard drive, but still wouldn't like to take up more space than needed...thanks for the help!!!

It doesn't really matter from a 'technical' perspective, however, it does make a different when it comes to project management. I'm a real sucker for clear, organised projects, where the assets in the browser are sensibly categorised and managed. You never know if/when/why you'll need to return to a project, so maintaining a clean and tidy browser is essential in my opinion.
From what you've described, I would leave them all in one project but make separate bins for the assets relating to each DVD. However, I'm not looking at what you're looking at so it's quite tricky to suggest the correct project management.
You say each DVD will be a separate entity, but they share some of the same chapters? So it sounds like they are linked by theme, in one way or another.
In regard to external hard drive space, that's not a problem, as you will not be duplicating your actual media files (video/audio etc) if you create separate FCP Project files. Project files are small.

  • Moving Clips to New Project

I've imported some video into a project and have left over clips that I'd like to move into a new project. When I open a new project and try to drag the clips there, it takes literally forever to move a 30 second clip into the new project. It actually never completes. I'm running iMovie 06 on a brand new Intel iMac with 2GB of RAM. There has to be a better way to get clips from one project into another. Any answers would be greatly appreciated

    it does..
when doing copy/paste of a clip from one project to another, indeed all material related to that edited clip (e.g. 32clip from a 30min import) gets copied.. due to 'non distructive feature' of iMHD6 ..
    a) set iM's prefs to smaller chunks on import
    b) import just parts instead of tapes..
    c) ... or, instead of copy/paste, select Export/Quicktime/FullQuality, which is a lossless copy of the clip.. and just the clipe ..

  • I have MTS files imported from a Canon HD cam. They import into I movie and I see them in the Finder folders and they preview fine. I have a new project and some of the clips are freezing and some audio is now gone? Do i need a file converter and convert

I have MTS video files that import from a Canon Vixia HF S20 HD camera. I imported into I Movie. They converted into MOV files and I see them in the movies folder in finder. They view fine and run through the events folder in Finder. In I Movie, I created a new project and used a "Theme". The project worked fine at first but then some clips started to freeze and some lost audio. The effected clips are the same in the project library and in the event library, meaning they are froze in both places. As I said when i view through finder the MOV files preview and work fine.  Is this inherent to MTS files using in I movie. SHould i consider using a file converter to convert to MOV files prior to importing into I movie.
I found on Apple support site info that states the MTS files can only be imported through the camera. I am developing my back up procedures and now I am faced with backing up in the original MTS files but not being able to reload if necessary into I movie. Any suggestions?

I'd like to add that after I import these clips without thumbnails, iMovie does give me an error and say that they could not be imported. No explanation as to why, though. Again, they play fine on my camera.

  • When creating a new project, the step "new sequence settings" doe not appear automatically, what to do?

    Hi there,
I have a question I am doing product videos for a comany they would like me to do this in a format that is 16:9 and in HD. Since they don't know on which channels they want to publish it but it is certain they will publish it on youtube I wanted to do it in the settings HDV and then DVCPROHD 720p24 or even 1080p24. I have bought the license of Premiere online and for some reason I do not have the option in the beginning when I create a new project to change the sequence settings. They do not appear and afterwards I cannot change them. Do you guys have an idea what can be done in order to access this setting before the project ultimately opens?
I'd highly appreciate any kind of help on the matter!
    Cheers,

  • I think I need to re install Encore off my discs. When I ask Premier Pro CS5 to send my project to Encore, Encore opens but does not receive my movie sequence. How do I re install Encore only without upsetting my movie?

Hello. I have the Premier Pro CS5 suite on Windows. Can you advise me how to re install Encore off my discs without affecting any of my movie in Premier Pro please?
I ask Pro to send the movie sequence through Dynamic Link into Encore so that I can burn the sequence to a disc.
Encore does open but the sequence does not arrive from Pro.
Last night the sequence did arrive into Encore but took forever to transcribe and I eventually cancelled the process as it appeared to get stuck and did not quite get to writing to disc.
This morning the sequence does not even arrive into Encore.
Very frustrating when I have a 4hr movie that I want to write to Bluray so I have now created 4 separate sequences and want to try writing them onto DVD in 1hr chapters.
Hope someone can help me with this. Cheers. Janice

Hello Ann. Thank you for your help. I have re installed EN and I have now
sent parts of my movie to AME. I have then tried several different methods
of getting the encoded clips into Encore successfully. Once in the Project
panel and the Timeline, the movie does not show up in the Monitor panel
above, so I have proceeded to build and write to a disc. I've tried a
number of options but always end up with EN 'not responding' and having to
    close the program down.
Something else is that I do get a message whilst in Premiere Pro that there
is an update available for AME, however, when I look online I do not see an
update for CS5, although there are 2 updates for CS6. Can you suggest what
I could do please? The Encore problem is the one that concerns me the most
as I am not able to record my movie.
    Looking forward to your reply.
    Kind regards.

  • Move album from one library to another without creating a new project

I accidentally added photos to a new album in the wrong library. I want to move this album with masters and versions to the right library. I exported the album as a project. Then I import the project into the library where I want the album to appear. Importing using either merge or add creates a new project which contains the album. Is there a way to put the album into an already existing project without creating a new one? Using Aperture 3.1.1.

As Frank said, masters and versions all move together. They can't be separated because a version can't exist without a Master file. In fact, when working in RAW everything you see in Aperture is a version since RAW files need to be rendered for onscreen viewing. The masters are on your hard drive somewhere (managed or referenced) and what you see when you import a RAW file is simply an unedited version 1.
This is one of the most important concepts to grasp: you're never actually working with the masters. Aperture is just a big database pointing to files and applying instructions (adjustments) to those files in realtime on your screen.
Just remember that a picture and any of its versions can appear in many albums, in many different places. But as I said earlier, it can only appear in one project. Move a picture from a project and everything follows. Versions are just different renditions of the same master file.
Not sure I'm clear - hopefully I'm helping a bit!

  • Movie 11 can not copy everything and put it into a new project in imovie 9 it works fine

movie 11 can not copy everything and put it into a new project
in imovie 9 it works fine and there i cant copy 5 different project into new project
but in imovie 11 i only can copy project with option dubler project?

AppleMan  Thanks very much for the information, however I could't make it work. I followed your instructions to the letter, in fact I tried every which-way. I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents"  but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. I also found that the file size was reduced to only a few Kb.  Any further step-by-step instructions would be appreciated as I am obviously doing something wrong.  Babowa  It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. Funnily enough an MOV file I converted to Mp4 was not greyed out and I was able to import it.... an exercise I am not keen on because of resolution loss during conversion

  • How do I move a Premier Elements Project to a new computer?

I want to move a Premier Elements Project to a different machine with more efficient RAM and SSDs. How do I move a Premier Elements Project to a new computer?

Welcome to the Premiere Elements Forum.
I constantly migrate my Premiere Projects between my laptop, and my workstation, but I set those Projects up, initially, with that in mind - which is different than having a Project set up on one computer, and then moving it to another. For my setup (remember, this is initially, when I start a Project), see these two articles:
Setting Up Project Folders & Sub-folders
Using External HDD's for Video Editing
For existing Projects, there are a couple of ways to address this. The method that you use, might depend on how you plan on moving the Project.
If you have an external HDD, and plan to use that to do the move, see the "Using External HDD's" article above, as it talks about drive letters in the OS. Getting that correct first, can save a lot of work later.
Then, one can use the Project Archiver to Copy the Project, and necessary files to that external. When one has done that, I strongly suggest that they test that "archived Project," to make sure that the Archiver has gathered everything necessary. The success of that process can depend on how one has set up their folders and sub-folders, and where their Assets (the material that has been Imported into the Project) is located. That is why I always urge one to test everything first. Then, just plug that external HDD into the new computer. At that point, they will have two options: edit to/from the external, or Copy everything to the new computer. For the former, see that "Using External HDD's" article, as there can be some limitations, such as both HDD speed and connection speed, that can impact how well things work.
Next, one could just Copy (over a a wired, or wireless network, or via an external HDD), the Project file (PREL), all Assets, and most of the Scratch Disk folders, to the new computer.
Note: there are files in the Media Cache, such as CFA's and PEK's for the Conformed Audio, that do not have to be Copied/Moved, as PrE will rebuild those (give the program time to do so, and do not edit the Project, until they ARE rebuilt). Same for the Render Files, as if those are needed, one can easily hit Enter/Return, to Render the Timeline, or part of it, again.
    Keep the folder structures.
If one gets the "Where is file _____ ?" message, this ARTICLE will be helpful.
Note that the PREL (Project) file is really an XML database. It contains NO MEDIA, but only absolute links to where that media was Imported from. See this ARTICLE for more background.
Good luck, and if you have any questions, or something above was not clear, please ask, before you make the move, as the answers might save you some time, and extra work.

  • Premiere Pro CC doesn't create a new sequence with a new project

I feel sure I must be missing something, but when I create a new project in Premiere Pro CC, it doesn't automatically create a new sequence.
In CS6, creating a new project would cause it to pop up a list of sequence presets and then create a new, blank sequence for you.
In CC, once you've created a project, you're left looking at an empty timeline.  You then have to go up to File, New, Sequence, and do it there.
Seems like a strange extra step to include, no?
Is there a setting I haven't found then makes CC create new projects with a sequence as CS6 does?

Yes, as Jim mentions, there are other ways to create a sequence.  For example, just import your footage, and then with one clip selected, choose File > New > Sequence from Clip.  Or in the Project panel, drag a clip to the New Item icon.  Many find it easier to create the sequence that way, rather than reading through all the settings in the New Sequence dialog and trying to figure out which attributes fit the media they are working with.

  • Move WBS from Project to new Project

    Hi all
Currently we have a high numer of deep structured Projects within SAP PS.
    The hierarchy looks like:
    Project Def
    - 1st level WBS
    -- 2nd level WBS
    -- 2nd level WBS
    --- 3rd level WBS
    ---- Activity
    ---- Activity
    --- 3rd level WBS
    ---- Activity
    -- 2nd level WBS
    --- Activity
    --- 3rd level WBS
    ---- Activity
    -- 2nd level WBS
We now need to move all the 2nd level WBS elements to distinct projects, preferably without data loss and including all WBS-sub elements from 3rd level. The description of the WBS elements should be copied to the new projects description.
Can someone describe the best-practice, manual way to achieve that?
Is there an automated way to do that, maybe a Transaction code I currently miss?
Is there a possibility to achieve it programmatically?

    Hi Michael,
You cannot literally move these WBSe's to new projects. Instead you can create new projects with exactly the same structure and maintain the same descriptions. As far as data is concerned, you need to check the postings that have already happened in the old projects. There are different ways by which this data can be transferred to the new Project. You can either settle the costs from the old WBS to the new ones or simply post a journal entry against the new WBSe's. I would prefer the former one. This however depends on how far the project has progressed i.e. costs incurred, postings done etc. There are a lot of things to consider before doing what you intend to do.
It would be good if you can involve your FICO guys in this exercise. It will be of help.
    Regards,

  • Move Sequences between Projects?

Is it possible to move a sequence from one project to another?
Can I create a sequence in one project and use it in a different project?
If yes, how do I do it?
    Thanks.

    Yes!
In Project A choose IMPORT then choose Project B project file.   A dialog will appear allowing you to choose either then entire project or sequences within the project.

  • Moving new movie to old idvd project?

I have re-worked my iMovie project and shared it to iDvd.   I wanted to insert the new project to the older iDvd project since I alreadt created a menu.  But i can't find any way to do so.  Instead I tried to create the same menu in the new project but I'm stuck on the music, it won't let me play it.  It shows the length of the menu as 15 sec and the volume is at mute.  The audio symbol has no sound waves so I know it needs to be changed but when I click on the symbol nothing happens.  This is really screwy.  Any suggestions?

I doubt that they would be backward compatible...
