Revenue Recognition with RA on Service Contracts

We have configured SD Revenue Recognition function (ECC 5.0). We have warranty maintenance contracts running. On this basis we have the following scenario and issue.
The warranty maintenance contracts are created without a billing plan (Reqmt. type SE so that we can settle costs later). The value of which is transferred to Deferred Revenue Account and is recognised at the end of the contract period (As it bears the retention money with the customer). Until this step things are working fine. We use VF44 to recognise revenues.
However, there are costs incurred (both material & labour) in relation to such contracts. To track this, we create a Service Order s against the Service Contract for each month. Later on fulfillment, the orders are settled to the Service Contract. This is reflecting in the Service Order. But the finance team wants to recognise the revenues to the extent of costs incurred. I'm not sure how we can do this. The following is an example scenario.
Contract Value : $1000
Contract period : 1 yr (1.1.2010 to 31.12.2010)
Contract billed at the start of the year on 1.1.2010 so the amount is moved to Revenue Provision (Deferred Revenue)
At the end of the year $1000 lying in Deferred Revenue will be moved to Revenue Account through Revenue Recognition (VF44)
Now, costs incurred as follows which are booked in separate service orders against the contract and on completion, settled to the contract. There is no definite schedule for these costs.
Apr 2010 : $100
Jun 2010 : $200
Sep 2010 : $500
Now, the finance team wants to recognise revenue to this extent during the relevant periods. For eg.
Apr 2010 :
Deferred Revenue A/c $100
To Revenue A/c $100
Jun 2010 :
Deferred Revenue A/c $200
To Revenue A/c $200
Sep 2010 :
Deferred Revenue A/c $500
To Revenue A/c $500
And at the end of Dec 2010 :
Deferred Revenue A/c $200
To Revenue A/c $200
(for the remaining amount)
Can anyone guide me how this can be achieved?  Can I do it by running RA on Service Contracts?
Thanks in advance.
Ravi.

One option:
This is how we do it in my company. This scenario is of committed services where biling is based on bill plan but revenue is as incurred. So you will bill 100% in advance to have a deferred position but evey month you calculate the service delivered/incurred and recognize the revenue reference to that service. You have to deliver the equivalent hours (To match the amount you want to recognize) and the VF44 based on delivery document. You might have to adjust your ETC based on the amount you want to recognize every month and the total qyantity to deliver.
In summary, basically you use following steps:
1. Sales order with delivery related item category (Assigned to service contract, in my case we use WBS).
2. VF04 for billing as per plan
3. VL01N to deliver the quantity matching the amount
4. VF44 with reference to delivery.
Item category has revenue recognition 'B'.
Hope it gives some idea.
Thanks.

  • Service PO with reference to Service Contract "Qty appearing as '1' in PO"

    Hello Gurus,
I am creating a service PO with reference to a service contract. For service line there is lets say "1500" qty but while adopting the service lines from the contract to PO, system pick the qty as "1" only eventhough "1500" is remaining for PO release.
No other PO is created for this qty and for this contract.
    Thanks in advance....

    Hi,
Usually a contract is created for establishing a price with the vendor.
This is the reason for is the only purchasing document which can be
created without quantities. The quantity in contract has the purpose of
limitation, as a guideline for all orders created with reference to
that contract and is not an immediate requirement like a quantity in
    purchase requisition, for example.
When a purchase order is created with
reference to a contract, the services selected from that contract will
have ALWAYS  the proposed quantity 1, and was designed and hard coded to
    be like that.

  • Revenue recognition with partial credits

    Hello,
We have an issue regarding recognising revenue on contracts where a partial credit has been raised.
    Example:
    Assume a 2 year contract, £2,400 (£1,200 year 1, £1,200 year 2)
The first year is billed and paid in full and then in the second year a credit is issued for £1,200
When the credit happens revenue makes a correction based on the contract value including the credit. In the first year we recognise £100 per month.  At the end of year 1 we have recognised £1,200.
However when the credit is issued SAP makes a correction and it now takes £1,200 as being the contract value and splits this over 24 months.  It removes anything we have previously recognised and now recognises £50 a month.  As the first year was billed and paid this revenue should not be corrected regardless of what happens in year two.
Also when the correction happens, instead of placing the unrecognised revenue in the deferred account it place's this in the unbilled revenue.
Would this problem be resolved if we used revenue distribution type 'c' which distributes revenue based on the individual billing plan years.
    And,
Why does the unrecognised revenue go into the unbilled account ?
Any thoughts or advice would be very useful.
    Many Thanks,
    Matt

Please check the amount and the start of accrual period and end of accrual period. It should be for one year and not two if you want to apply 1200 over one year. If the accrual period is two years then obviously the accrued amount is going to be 50. Conversely if the accrued period is two years then the amount should be 2400 and not 1200.

  • IPhone Service Contract with AT&T

I bought my iPhone on August , 2008 and broke it from dropping on concrete pave last year.
I had to go to AT&T retail store in my town to get a replacement phone.
Since i was still with 2 year service contract with AT&T, i had to pay full price for an 16G iPhone for replacement, which was like, i believe 600 dollars.
When i called AT&T to see of my upgrade option to new iPhone 3GS today and they told me that i was not eligible until September of 2010 since i renewed the 2 year service contract on the day o purchaed new iPhone with full price for replacement last year.
He understand what doesn't make sense. But he kept saying it is because it is iPhone.
    Is it True?
    or am i missing something?
what's the point of buying a new iPhone in Full Price?
Full Price means no obligation of 2 year contract?

did you miss what i say about the replacement iPhone last year?
it was full priced, which means i had NO OBLIGATION of 2 year service contract.
what if you bring your extra iPhone that you get from your friend after he/she upgrade his/her iPhone 3G to 3GS and activate to replace your damaged 3G iPhone?
I know they want $300 difference between full price and discounted price of iPhone 3G when i first purchased it. they scoup out from me every month for 2 years. but it is all for the first phone.
    Let's imagine.
the first phone is gone, it is not there and i don't even have a phone. but still i have to pay for monthly service charged for 2 years.
    i understand.
I agree to pay 60 dollars of monthly service charges to AT&T for 24 month even though i don't even have a phone because i owe 300 dollars from them to get my phone in discounted price.
I bought a new iPhone in full price, which i am not obligated to pay discounted price for another 24 months because i did not have any discount from AT&T at all. But i had to pay few dollars to AT&T for activation service.
    Am i still missing something?

  • Cost/VPRS condition in Revenue Recognition to COPA

    Hi All,
Appreciate any inputs and suggestions for the issue which i am facing.
We are using Revenue Recognition with type Service based (B). Whereby, Revenue Recogntion is carried out based on Delivery Order/PGI.
I am facing issue with Cost/VPRS value that is being transferred to CO-PA. We are using Moving Average Price for inventory.
    1. Upon Sales Order creation, VPRS condition type picks up the material price of that time. e.g , was $100
2.Delivery and PGI is performed, and material price /COGS valid upon delivery/PGI time was $90
    3. Revenue Recognition is carried , Accounting document is generated to post the revenue accordingly. CO-PA document is also generated to post to CO-PA, where by COGS /VPRS is updated.
    4. However,in REvenue Recognition lines, SAP records 2 lines for VPRS.
VPRS with $90 which picked up from PGI value --> correct, and another line which is $10. So SAP is recognizing the COGS/VPRS from Sales Order value. This is causing the CO-PA and GL account is not tally. BEcause, GL is correct , based on the actual PGI value. While, CO-PA is taking COGS/VPRS upon sales order creation.
Please advise how to fix this issue, we only want RR to pick up the COGS/VPRS from PGI only.
    Thanks a lot

  • Copy button not working properly in service contract - crmd_order tcode

    Hi experts,
I want to create a duplicate row in contract through Duplicate Button Supplied by SAP. As
I understand the function of the duplicate row button is to copy the same set of information in next row with auto incremental or manual. As far as number incremental is concern that is happening based on
customization on transaction type line item incremental sequence .
This is an upgrade project before upgradation it was working fine, you can check the same in old CRM 4.0. If you see in the Object Tab, condition tab or any other tab, no data is duplicated from parent line item. This works very well in CRM 4.0. Actually after discussing with the client i have come to know that , they also had the same issue before and SAP gave two Notes : 739462 and 740103 to resolve the issue. But now this feature is only availabe in the WEB UI in CRM 2007, and as i am upgrading to CRM 2007 this feature is not available, but my client want this feature.
I went through the SAP note , they have given some corrective instructions but it is valid till BBPCRM 500 version of the software component and mine is BBPCRM 600 . My query is, will it work if i follow the same corrective measures in the Note for my system ie. by inserting few blocks of code given in the SAP NOTE.
    please kindly help me out,
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Arun.

    Hi,
I think you problem is in u201CBilling tabu201D which it is not showing any details on particularly billing tab. Right
Ok, as per you wording Services order having billing tab with details but Service contract does not.
If am I right, you see the below solutionu2026.
    First go to T-code: CRMC_PCUITOOLS
    Put you
    Application : CRMD_BUS2000116
    View (blview) : ZXXXXX
    Then press F8 for execute
You will see the view of particularly Leading Transaction Category and go to billing tab
See below Tab Page Group (SRV_ODP1)
    Second go to T-code: CRMC_BLUEPRINT_C
Follow this : Application Element -> Tab Page Group -> Tab Page Group Structure
Put it (SRV_ODP1) and go to billing (double click on them)
    You will see following details
    Tab Page Group       SRV_ODP1
    View                      ZXXX
    Sequence                  23
    Event                     S1O_HD_PAYMENT_BILL
    Text                      Billing
    View Switch Gro
    Multi-Group               S1O_HD_PAYMENT_BILL
    Inactive          Flag is Not Set
Follow the same for Service contract. You will see the Multi-Group missing
Put it same on that (S1O_HD_PAYMENT_BILL)

  • Service based revenue recognition (u0091Bu0092) contract with call off

I am trying to understand Revenue Recognition. I have come across the above term." Contract with call off"
Can anyone tell me what exactly this means.

    Dear sap
The contract consists of items defining the individual materials, material groups, or services with prices and in many cases quantities.
An item is assigned to an item category, which defines the type of procurement (e.g. item category K for consignment, or L for subcontracting).
An item of the procurement type "external service" contains a set of service specifications. Such specifications may be hierarchically structured. The summary view of such a hierarchical structure is termed an "outline", and the individual levels of the hierarchy are referred to as "outline levels". Quantities are specified in service lines. Services can be released (<i>ordered, or called off against the contract</i>) at item level or at the level of the service line.

  • UNBILLED RECIEVABLE ACCOUNT- SERVICE CONTRACT WITH REVENUE RECOGNITION

    Hi SAP Gurus,
I want to draw your kind attention towards my problem:
I have created  service contract with one year contract and created an invoice for the whole year in advance.
Now in-between i cancelled  a contract (after three months) and want to recognised a revenue for the contract period , so i'm creating a revenue recognition for the three months one by one using  transaction code-VF44,
first month revenue recogniton is working fine as first month amount is going from deffered account to revenue account
But for second month instead of deffered account ,system is using unbilled recievable account  ,which is wrong .
Can anybody tell me why the system is picking unbilled receivable account instead of deffered account in case of second month revenue recogniton.
    This may help us:
"When i was cancelling a contract ,at that time i was entering a billing plan end date in billing plan tab at an item level.
and just after entering end date ,system was creating two lines instead of one in billing plan tab and i think because of that extra line system is picking unbilled receivables in second revenue recognition."
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Thank you for your reply.
I am doing a contract billing for overall period that is for 12 months (contract is of 12 months).
Just after 3 months i have realized that somehow we have to cancel the contract and we canceled that in 3rd month.
I had created the created a contract with periodic billing plan and for canceling that contract i'm putting contract end date in BILLING PLAN TAB as 31/03/2011 (Let say contract is from 01/01/2011 to 31/12/2011).
Can you/anybody please tell me whether is this the correct way of canceling the contract with periodic billing plan?
    As per your analysis:
"It seems you have done the billing document for one period and you are doing the RR document for multiple periods and hence the revenue is going to unbilled receivable account for the period for which billing document has not been done"
As i have billed the customer for 12 months but contract was only for 3 months so i'll create RR for only 3 months and for rest of the period (i.e. 9 months) i'll create credit memo and send it to customer.
"Please use a billing type where you will specify only start date and end date of the contract and not the billing plan in contract"
How can we use billing type for contract start and end date .
I think as soon as i'm changing the dates in billing plan tab system is proposing another line item with different  billing dates and that is not getting covered under deferred account that is still unbilled amount .
    Waiting for your valuable inputs.
In case of any clarification kindly revert to me.
    Thanks,
    Ujjawal

  • Data Migration of Contracts with periodic billing and revenue recognition

    Hello Experts,
I am trying to develop a legacy data migration plan for Contracts with periodic billing plan and revenue recognition.
Example of the scenario is given below:
Customer signed a contract for one year starting 01/01/2009.
Customer is billed quartely, billed in advance.
    SAP going live on 04/01/2009
Customer is billed for 3 months and also for initial set up fees.
    Revenue recognition is done monthly.
We have to migrate this contract to SAP.
Billing document posting may be necessay as it affects revenue recognition which spans across the total contract period.
Any ideas how to do this?
    Thanks  A Lot
    Anil
Edited by: Anil  Jose on Sep 17, 2008 9:38 PM

    Hi Anil
How did you manage this? We also had the same problem in one of our contracts and what we did was that we copied the contracts from the legacy with the full value. That is suppose SAP went live on 1st April, 2009 and the contract was created on 1st January 2009 for a value of suppose 100 USD, with the first billing being done on 1st Jan for 33.33 USD for 4 months. We first created the contract with a validity from 1st Jan 2009 in the new system. We billed it with a billing type that we created that did not actually create new accounting entries as the accounting entries had already been created in the legacy system. In the new system then we recognised the revenue till the go live, so that the actual value remaining of the contract reduced. Then we started the billing plan of the contract from 1st of April 2009 for the remaining amount. So next invoice was created on 1st april for 33.33 USD. Can you share your solution.

    Hi, Paul!
In CR700 materials there is the next explanation: "Service-based revenue recognition (value/quantity contracts with a target quantity) means that the revenue is realized based on an event. Events are releases that are reflected as service orders or service confirmations. Once again, the billing document is posted to an accruals account first and the revenues are transferred to the revenue accounts in a second step."

  • Revenue Recognition: Fiscal/Period updated as 0000/00 for a Rev rec document created after creation of a Contract.

    Hi All,
We have created a Contract/Subscription and the corresponding Rev Rec document that got posted is with fiscal/period as 0000/00.
Revenue Recognition: Fiscal/Period updated as 0000/00 for a Rev rec document created after creation of a Contract.
We have not executed VF45 or any revenue recognition process.
What amay be the reasons and how can we proceed further on this ?

    Dear Amrish,
Problem of this you did not maintain the provision account in your revenue account determination.  Please go to vkoa transaction and maintatin this provisional account any account number.
eg;  application: v. condition type: kofk, chart of account: int, sales org:  0001, revenue account: 89999, provisional account 788888 (something)
    I hope you understood

  • Forecasted revenues for Service contract

    Hi
We have few service contracts which are in being processed status.
In the service contract if i go to cost report ( enivornment -->cost report) the settlement revenues to COPA is zero.
Why is this amount coming as zero. Should it not be equal to the value of service contract as this is forcaseted/plan revenue.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Satya

    Some additional info:
    The billing plan is maintained.
There are 2 partial invoices. with one invoice in the past data. The second partial invoice has a billing block.

Note 1125456 - Revenue recognition due to customer-specific event
We are implementing SD, FI (using New Gral Ledger), PS, CO and MM in a company that sells projects. Therefore we're posting everything to the WBS elements.
We need to post the revenue values to the WBS elements too.
The problem is that when we create a sales order for RR indicating a WBS element and try to save it, the system activates the incompletion log saying that the provision account is missing, despite the account is in VKOA.
The strange thing is that if we use a material with profit center (without any WBS or order indication in the sales order) all the revenue recognition process runs perfectly (we save the order, VBREVK is fullfiled, VF44 is run and the invoice is done correctly).
Does anybody know why when using a WBS element in the sales order, SAKN2 field is not fullfiled and the incompletion log is activated???
Is it a program error? Or are we doing something wrong?
Quick responses will be apreciated since we need to move on within two weeks!
    Thanks in advance!
