Reverse Compatibility and some positives

At a purely personal level, I applaud Adobe for taking this step toward a subscription based model. The archaic days of delivering SW in a box, on discs, is over and it needed a major commercial concern, such as Adobe, to take the first steps. Well done indeed, I’m sure many others will follow if this is a success. Also having access to the most up-to-date software at all times is an absolute necessity in today’s competitive environment. I've made the move and now subscribe.
I do believe that the membership pricing mechanism needs some serious re-engineering. Excuse my cynicism but at the moment it looks like something drawn up by two blokes in a pub on the back of a *** packet. Woefully unsuitable for a delivery change of this magnitude. Indeed this is the major concern of just about everyone contributing to this forum.
The above comments are rhetorical but I have two addressable concerns if I may:
Has any thought been given to future [backward] compatibility? For example I may have developed a design for a major Client which he accepted and has been using same for a few years. He’s now come back to me for an adjustment to be made. As Adobe now maintains a dynamic update model, will the current SW be compatible with the older format. If not this could cause serious Client relationship issues moving forward.
As implied in my first paragraph, having access to the most up to date SW is a great idea, however there are still many folks in areas where WEB access is not that great and to download > 1GB files at any one time would be well-nigh impossible, due to connection issues and/or very slow transfer speeds. I’m sure Adobe do not wish to isolate these people under the new model but what contingency plans are in place to handle this scenario ?

1.) Should be a non-issue - all current versions will remain available for at least 5 versions to come, so in 2017 you should still be able to install and use CS6 in the cloud. The rest is not really relevant - whether or not the file formats will be compatible is only something the engineers can work on on a version-by-version basis and gauging how much effort it will take to maintain legacy compatibility beyond going one version back. Still, if you have access to the older versions, tip-toeing your way up to the latest version and re-saving updated files would be possible. The points in 2.) have been raised a couple of times and I'm sure Adobe will provide some form of offline install, possibly via the Enterprise Deployment channels/ Developer Center, but there's no definitive info yet.

Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and right-click the iPad 'device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and select 'Restore From Backup' from the pop-up : backups and restoring.
You will need to restore the complete backup to the iPad, you can't just restore photos.

Some Positive News on Apple and iPhone Dealings Today

Howdy. I have a good news story from my dealings with Apple and I felt the urge to send some positive news to the masses.
I bought an iPhone 3GS 16gb a month ago and had to make an appt at the Genuis Bar to get some help as battery life was woeful and had a few glitches to report.
The really friendly dude simply gave me a "new" (ie: Replacement) unit and I went away happy. That unit however had someone else's gremlins and did some freaky stuff (such as take a photo of the home screen on its own, rearranged icons literally before my eyes, and shut off and turned back on with reduced life!!).
I returned to the store in Doncaster (Melbourne) today and they provided me a FULL refund of outright costs and Apple plan on an Apple giftcard, then got me a NEW unit, no questions asked and out of the store in 20 minutes all set up and grinning again (coz I seriously love this phone, after being a Nokia and Blakberry Bold fan).
The staff (of 16 in store!!!!), were brilliant and provided Customer Service the way it should be done.
Nice Work Apple.....I tip my hat to you all.

Help writing a formula to total a list of numbers when some are negative and some are positive

How do I write a formula in Numbers 3.5 that will produce a result that is the sum of some positive and negative numbers, as in

(75.26)

Obviously, if it's just a SUM of all positive numbers, its go to the destination cell, hit the = sign, choose SUM and the cells and you're done, but what if one cell contains a negative number.
I feel like a dunderhead, and I hope someone can help a poor waif.

It's hard to tell with tables pasted into the forum, but if your "numbers" are left-aligned in your document, then it's possible that Numbers thinks they are text, not numbers, and your SUM formula will show a 0.
If that's happening, try selecting the cells, clicking the Format "paintbrush" upper right, selecting the Cell tab, and choosing Number as Data Format.
The numbers in the column should then be right-aligned, suggesting Numbers recognizes them as numbers, and you can insert a SUM formula just as you would if they were all positive numbers.

Sun Web Server Reverse Proxy and Weblogic HTTP to HTTPS redirection

Hi,
I am currently testing reverse-proxy from SJSW 7.0 update 5 to Weblogic server but I have encountered an issue.
I have configured a context root to be forwarded to weblogic:
Web Server: www.server.com
URI: /path
Reverse Proxy URL: wlserver:9000
When I access https://www.server.com/path, I am getting the correct page. The issue is, the weblogic server is configured to redirect HTTP access to HTTPS, i.e., when I access http://www.server.com/path, it should be redirected to https://www.server.com/path. However, that is not the case. What happens is that I am being redirected instead to https://www.server.com/.
If I don't use reverse proxy, that is, if I use the libproxy.so from weblogic, I get the correct redirection.
Would appreciate it very much if someone can help me troubleshoot this issue.

I am not sure, how you have configured your reverse proxy since you didn't attach / refer your current configuration file. this is how I would do it..
- create a new configuration (using web server 7 admin gui , within configuration wizard, disable java option if you plan to use web server 7 only for reverse proxy)
- select this new configuration and go to reverse proxy and try to reverse proxy / to the origin server.
that is all it should need.
your obj.conf or <hostname>-obj.conf depending on your configuration should look like following snippet

Request for UI improvments and some more

Hello Raptor Development Team,
Your product is really good, but there are some obvious UI lacks and some possible improvements (sorry, if these lacks/improvements have been pointed before):
1. There shall be possibility to search a text of a function/procedure/package/... without switching into Edit mode.
2. In SQL*Worksheet by parse error no info is provided in which position in the statement - line, column - error has occurred (even SQL*Plus provides similar info). As far as I can remember it is limitation of error-processing of Oracle JDBC thin driver, but it can quite easily be overcome but re-parsing the same failed statement inside PL/SQL block by means of DBMS_SQL package which provides such info (and it is relatively cheap, as statement has anyway failed on parse).
3. In SQL*Worksheet it should be possible to obtain all properties of an object under cursor by means of hotkey/popup menu (likewise the functionality of F4 button in TOAD) and not only by separate "describe" command (which, anyway, provide quite limited info).
4. Navigation in the left explorer-like panel is quite cumbersome, especially when working with schemas with big amount of objects. It would be nice, if alternative interface (e.g. tabbed a-la TOAD) will be provided. The problem may be alleviated as well by providing in the left panel speedbars that allows to quickly switch between different connections and between DB object types (tables, views, procedures,...) in the same connection.
5. If named bind variable is used in SQL*Worksheet and single statement is executed the "Enter bind value:" dialog box is shown for each bind variable as many times as it occurs in the statement (with empty "Object Value" field and "Object type reset to Varchar2 each time). Looks strange and inconvenient as it provide no clue for which occurrence of the variable value is asked.
6. If the same statement with bind variable(s) is re-executed many times or several statements that refer to same bind variable are sequentially executed in "single-statement" mode that it would be really nice if values will be retained between executions and prompted in "Object Value" field of "Enter bind value:" dialog box.
7. The following PL/SQL block fails

1. Has been mentioned before - we do have a bug on it. To search across all your pl/sql, there is a report you can use.
2. We are working on improving errors but I can't make any promises.
3. We have heard this before but it won't be there for v1.0. You can use the Connections navigator to access the details of the objects that are accessible to you while you have a Worksheet open. You can even drag your Worksheet tab down to place it under the Connections details tab so you can see them both at the same time.
4. In a post-v1.0 release, we will be looking at additional, alternate navigation.
5. We have an open bug to not prompt you for the same bind more than once.
6. I will talk to the Worksheet developer about this one. Not sure we can remember the binds from execution to execution but it would be a great enhancement.
7. Not sure why this is failing - I will check into it.

White line appearing at top of screen on SD and some HD

I've noticed a white line appearing atop my broadcast watching SD and some HD channels.
I know this line is part of the broadcast signal which is responsible for closed captioning or some other technical aspects. From what I've researched, a TV's overscan should crop out that part of the broadcast, unfortunately mine is not.
Here's my set up:
Vizio VL320M 32" 1080P HDTV (receiving signal via HDMI from receiver)
Sony STR-DH700 Receiver (receivers HDMI switch outputting signal to Vizio TV)
Motorola QIP6416-2 DVR STB (connected via HDMI to receiver HDMI switch)
I can crop out the white line by setting my Vizio to Zoom1 or Stretch, though this distorts the image and is a pain to reset for channels which do not experience this problem.
I can also adjust the TV's vertical posistion up a few to get rid of the line, BUT when I switch HDMI ports to goto my xbox 360, then switch back to the HDMI port my cable is on, it appears that the STB resets my signal position and the line comes back.
I haven't tried component, and really do not want to switch from HDMI to component as some sort of work around.
If anyone has any suggestion to resolve this problem, please post. Thanks for any suggestions.

I think I may have narrowed down the problem. I believe it's a handshake issue occurring between my Sony receiver and my TV, though I could be wrong. Maybe some of you A/V experts can see otherwise.
I've come to this conclusion because of the vertical setting being returned to its default position upon switching ports on my Sony's HDMI switch. Keep in mind my STB is connected to a port on my Receiver's HDMI switch and my receivers HDMI output is connected to my TV.
I can crop out the white broadcast line by simply adjusting the vertical position of my screen up of few pixels. HOWEVER, when I switch HDMI ports on my receiver, then come back to the port my STB is on, the vertical position resets itself to the default position, even though my TV's vertical setting never changed.
Here's another possible confirmation. If I press the menu button on my Vizio's remote, immediately upon the TV's menu appearing the vertical position goes to the position that's set in the TV. Strange, but that's what leads me to believe there's a conflict occurring somewhere between my receiver and TV.
I have confirmed this behavior does not occur when I connect my STB directly to my TV. I can switch my TV's HDMI ports and the vertical position holds.
I contacted Sony support, and they want me to take my receiver to a service center. I doubt that there's a problem with my receiver that can be fixed, so I'm just gonna use a workaround by activating my TV's menu so the handshake can complete after switching HDMI ports.
Since I have a universal remote that's capable of macro layering, it's just a matter of programming a layered macro to goto my STB port then activate the TV menu to initiate the vertical setting. Maybe at some other point in time I'll lug my receiver in, though unless I'm positive it can be fixed, I really don't feel like pulling apart my home theatre and explaining this to techs if I'm not even sure it can be fixed.
If anyone else knows of a better workaround please feel free to post it. Thanks.

Reverse telecine and final cut

hi. hope the gurus can help.
we shot a short with dvx 100a. we shot on 24p (NORMAL). I am trying to create a 23.98 workflow for the video. all the footage was captured in DV NTSC, and used cinema tools to Reverse Telecine. here come the issues: how do I know which "capture mode" the DVX uses? also which "Style." I tried different settings, and the strange part is that some settings work for some clips while others work for other clips, even though all clips were captured the same way. when i say worked, i mean some showed obvious "flicker" or "ghosting" and some were fantastic. all this on a 23.98 timeline in FCP.

yep, it's not in the manual and i found this one day long ago when i got my dvx just after they were first released: open the lcd and on the bottom towards the lens there is the counter button. with the camera in vtr mode and playing the tape, toggle that counter button and you'll get a wealth of info including what framerate the video was shot with.
as for the reverse telecine, how can one determine
what "capture mode" was used? apple suggests a burned
tc, but i do not have that off the dvx.
dude, as far as a reverse telecine, that is determined by which mode was used to photograph with the camera. with fcp 4 you only use cinema tools for 24p standard video but i understand with the latest version of cinema tools you can use for 24P and 24PA, but i've not tried this.

For each Repo product class (product category 730) you can assign two different planning levels for each: contract, settlement and due date. One level for known bank account and another one for unknown bank. That makes a total of six planning levels. Is that what you are asking?

Adjust front panel to screen size and re-position objects on different systems automatically

Hello, i have designed a vi that contains 5 led's placed at the 4 corners and center of the front panel which occupies the entire screen. However, this vi is to be used on different systems having different screen sizes. But on every screen, i'll need the front panel size = screen size and the led's to be placed to the centers and corner of this new screen size automatically without any manual operations and positioning bieng done every time. Will the resize option perform this task completely or do i have to go for some other techniques?

As far as I know, what you want is not easy to do but it is doable but you have to programmatically do it (no Labview setting). Here is an example for only 2 LEDs but I suppose that you will be able to make it work for your other LEDs.
This VI maximizes the front panel and then positions the 2 LEDs in the center and top right corner upon running. The LEDs are positioned according to their own top left corners, not according to their centers.

Data pump for HR Jobs and HR positions for v11i

I am trying to use Datapump (v11i/11.5.2)
to load the data for HR Jobs and Hr Positions. I am loading HR_PUMP_BATCH_HEADER and HR_PUMP_BATCH_LINE TABLEs with records having required valid values but I am getting error. I have succefully loaded the employee data using same method before.
Have anybody done this ? PLase help.

The HR_PUMP_BATCH_LINE_USER_KEYS table must be seeded with value in order for the package that follows to work. In some cases, the user must provide this value.

There is no dock, and when I unlocked portrait orientation, it didn't turn. I turned it off and on about many times, and the play, fast forward, and reverse button are overlapping. ITS SO GLITCHY!

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

Slow motion, reverse playback and others

Dear members:
After doing some research that included help files for Final Cut Express HD and Apple's support pages I haven't been able to find a straight and definited answer to my question.
I am trying to find ways to add slow motion, reverse playback and fast playback effects to my sequences in Final Cut Express HD but haven't found a way to do it. Some pages I found seem to indicate that these functions may not be available in Final Cut Express HD but they are not specific enough. I honestly can't believe that an application that is meant to provide professional results wouldn't offer these which are probably some of the most used effects in video.
Do any of you know if and how these effects can be used with Final Cut Express HD ?
In case it can't handle these effects, how much would an upgrade to Final Cut Pro HD cost if I am coming from Final Cut Express HD ? Is there an (reasonable) upgrade path ?

I'm sure you can do this w/ FC3xpress - although I haven't used that app in years- but you can try this:
-Select the clip you want to add the 3ffect to then press Apple-J
-That should bring up the menu where you can determine the new speed percentage.
-If it doesn't have the Reverse checkmark option (I don't think it did in earlier versions) you can do a negative percentage to make the clip play in reverse.
Also it looks like there is no way to upgrade from Final Cut 3xpress to Final Cut Studio
You can upgrade from a few apps but Express isn't included in that list.

Question about Button and TextBox positions

Hello everybody,
I just started using Borland Together 6.1 extended with Java and I want to design a UserForm (an Application), especially a Online Bank terminal, where u can input and output different data. My problem is that when I add buttons and textboxes from the toolbox menu, I cannot put then on the place I want, I'm restricted to some positions (center, right, left, west, east and so on). My question is how can I create my elements on the position I want, how can I resize them. Could someone tell me some specific functions, which I should use.

You should try to find a LayoutManager that suits you. If you can't find one, you can set the Layout to null, then use absolute positioning.
