Revert To Save - An Accident Waiting To Happen

Former Front Page junkie (www.mjweber.com) building my first iWeb 2 site from scratch. So far so good aside from some inaccurate font handling (regular turns to bold) and Safari incompatibilities.
Whoever placed the "Revert To Save" feature right under "Save" must be taking stupid pills. It's An Accident Waiting To Happen! Bleary eyed web authors make errant clicks, especially in the wee hours. C'mon AAPL.
To anyone using iWeb 2 I suggest saving your site after each change. I've had 2 crashes (1 iWeb & 1 Safari) and counting. I will update this post as I learn more.

I was extremely frustrated by the proximity of the "Publish to .Mac" and the "Publish All to .Mac" options in the File menu. My very large Domain file would take more than an hour to compile and upload for about eight hours (even with fast DSL) when publishing the whole thing. After choosing "All" a couple of times, I posted here and the folks in the Discussions suggested I use the "Publish" button on the bottom, left-hand corner. This saved me quite a bit of hassle. Since there is no "Save" button, maybe pressing command-s on the keyboard would save you from accidentally choosing "revert" from the menu?

'Save as pdf' and nothing happens?!?

Hi,
I encountered a problem with saving PDF from Illustrator files. I open/create an Illustrator *.ai file and when I choose 'Save as' it seems nothing happens.
However when I press 'Enter' a PDF with the default options is saved. Now I would like to change these options, but how without seeing the dialog? It happens with all my files (several/one artboards, different color modes,etc...) I have tried everything to get my dialog back but no chance!
This is what I have tried:Rebooting, ReInstalling Illustrator, ReInstalling Destiller, ReInstalling the whole Design Suite
System: Win7, CS4.
Any help is appreciated!

The dialog box is outside the screen. You may increase the screen resolution, drag it to the centre, and reduce the resolution again. There is another way I am trying to remember.
Ah, there it was: Harron normally says it: Move (or hit M) and use your arrow keys to move the dialog box back on screen.

When creating an event the dialog box appears I set the description & time and press save and close and nothing happens. I have reloaded lightening to no avail

When I try to create an event I click on the date and put the information in the dialog box and click Save& Close but nothing happens. THe dialog box just stays there. I have made sure I am on the latest version of Thunderbird and Lightening. I have deleted lightening and reinstalled from the website and still the same thing.
I checked the error log in Thunderbird and this is what it said

I am having this problem. At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2. I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps. I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them. The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage. It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup. With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up. The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete. This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

Adobe Reader 11.0 won't install through firefox - I click save file when requested it switches to Step 2 of 3 but nothing is there and I have waited for a very long time for it to load. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi Pat,
After your last email I decided to continue to trouble shoot the problem and finally found the answer from another user. Oddly enough when using Firefox it will default to a location on your computer to save downloads. If it encounters a problem it doesn't identify it, the program just "loops" back to the start of the download sequence. Once I changed the folder that the downloads are sent to the original way of upgrading occurred without fault.
I will go back into the discussion group and credit you with the answer because I really appreciate your assistance.

Windows 8 won't save my screensaver wait time changes

I have a new HP laptop with Windows 8, I set everything up and adjusted screensaver wait times to 15 minutes (from one) and despite clicking apply and then OK, the settings keep reverting to one minute. It's incredibly frustrating because the computer goes
to lockscreen and screensaver mode after one minute and I'm constantly logging back in if I am reading a screen or editing. This must be a glitch of some sort and I'm thinking of switching to a MAC instead. This is ridiculous.

What is your current situation?
Have you checked the thread shared by britishdhez? Please go User Accounts under Control Panel and then check if there is a 'Reset Security Policies' option available, if yes, click it and change the screensaver timeout again, if there is no such option
available, the policy on your computer is on the default settings or it is managed by the administrator (If the machine is in domain).
Further, please follow the steps mentioned by Niki in the above thread to continue the troubleshoot steps.

Cannot save as disc image, nothing happens

I am using iDVD 6.0.3 on my Intel Mac Mini. I have 37gb free. I imported the move from my camera into iMovie HD 6.0.3. Then I shared it into iDVD. Now I am trying to save the image to disc. When I do that, the little burning icon pops up for about 5-10 seconds and then goes back to grey and nothing happens. I am not able to burn to dvd because it errors everytime. I have saved a image to disc once before about a week ago but now I cannot with this new project. Any thoughts?

My images won't save as jpeg unless I go to Save As... what is happening to my images?

My images look great when edited in photoshop and when I got to close and save it won't give me the option to save as a jpeg so I have to go to File Save As and then save to jpeg. But when I go to order them in Roes they look drab and awful but the thumbnail looks great. Am I saving it wrong somehow?

Go to Image --> Mode and set image to 8 or 16 bit. If the image has 32 bit, it won't export through the save for web dialog.
Let me know if this fixes the issue.

Can not use Save Image as. What happened?

Have Firefox 3.6.12 loaded in openSuSE linux 11.3. When I try to save an image or a WebPage it may or may not work. Once it quits working, it will not work again UNTIL I delete download.sqlite and localstore.rtf
I found this idea before when I searched. This was back when 3.6 first came into being. Ia there a fix for this -or- at least one in progress??

HT1199 My apps are shutting down when I try to save them. What's happening?

I can open a new document on Word, Pages or Textedit but everytime I write something and I click save, it immediately gives me the spinning wheel and I have to force quit it.

There is a simple solution for annoying Preview crashes (at least, with Mac OSX 10.7+ Lion OS).
Open terminal:
cd # make sure you are in your home directory
then " hide" the com.apple.preview folder found in your Library/Containers folder :
mv Library/Containers/com.apple.preview Library/Containers/com.apple.preview.hiding
You will notice that the next time you open Preview, the com.apple.preview folder will be automatically recreated, and your problem is solved.
The same should work for TextEdit.
Many of the work arounds in this thread are doing the same thing, indirectly.
If you are a command line ace, you can just remove the folder. But it is preferable to "hide" a folder before removing it to check the effect anyway."
It applies to Lion, so all the part about showing your Library is moot, but it points at some plist files becoming corrupted for some reason. You could try to delete the plist files related to the applications you named in your ~/Library/Preferences folder (without said applications running, that goes without saying), and relaunch Word, TextEdit or Pages.
Since all three are text processor applications, your problem could be solved by repairing permissions, too.

OK so today is my move date to bt but just called sky to cancel and they have heard nothing from bt at all?
Do bt not have to do anything because its a fibre line or is it all going to go wrong.
I was not bothered about keeping my number but bt said it was ok. So how can I if sky still have that line?

Bt did not ask me to get one. It seem they can take over the line at the exchange now so mac codes will be a thing of the past( for some people anyway)

Changes made to application extensions revert to save or open

A couple of weeks ago, instead of OPENING a page, I kept getting a popup with a choice of opening or saving a application/x-httpd-php file. I do NOT want it downloaded into my computer temp files, but that is exactly what it is doing. The default of "always ask" is fine, but Firefox isn't one of the available selections below it. I have chosed "other" over and over, selected Firefox, saved it and gone to the same website and voila - it opens the page but this is the URL: file:///C:/Users/Admin/AppData/Local/Temp/VH34Jzs+-1.part I go back to Troubleshooting and open the application extensions and, sure enough, it's back to "always ask." I did the removal of the mimeTypes.rdf and rebooted but it didn't help.
So, I can't get a change of Action for the application/xhttpd-php to stay the preferred action and I don't want it storing on my computer every time I look at a page that has that content type.
WHAT CAN I DO???

This sounds like a server misconfiguration.<br />
PHP files should be processed by a web server and you should get the resulting HTML code send as text/html.
In such a case you should never select Firefox because Firefox can't handle such files and you can't end open with new tabs opening endlessly if you set an automatic action.
Do you have any server software installed?
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
You can delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

New to the forums, not new to Mac. Need help on failing hard drive.

Hello, glad to have found this forum...I need all the help I can get. Let me explain what I have, what it's doing, what I want it to do, what I "think" I need to do.
*What I have:*
733 G4 with superdrive, 512 MB SDRAM, 40 & 60 gig internal original hard drives
*What it is doing:*
For about a year one of the drives (seems to be my 60g start-up drive) has made clicking/popping noises not unlike when you click/cluck your tongue. I've ignored it, foolishly, and gone about my business. Then I began having to click the mouse and punch keys when I start-up in order to get the drive to begin spinning, otherwise it would never kick in and I'd get the "?" face. Anyway, I have been living like that for many months until recently when my start-up drive only had about 500MB left of space, I burned some DVD's and freed up about 6 gig on the drive for some cushion the other day. Well, since doing that, when I start up now I get a spinning globe. I have to hold the option key down at boot and then select the drive manually and I'm back to being fine again.
*What I want it to do:*
I'm freaked out about losing data because I am a photographer and graphic designer, so I would die if I lost any files. I have been using one of my old iPods as a back up drive to dump data on and burning some DVD's too...but still, I have most of my life still on the drive. Here is what I am considering. I would like to get an external drive to move and continue to grow my massive files for my work and creativity. I'm thinking the G-Tech 320 Quad external would be a good fit. Now, moving back inside, my 60g start-up is telling me it's failing and to back up and replace before...well, you know. My 2nd internal drive is 40g and is strictly my iTunes library of MP3s.
How do I save myself and replace my start-up drive?
Do I buy the G-Tech first, move all my files over, then replace the internal, failing 60g? Can I start-up from the G-Tech? Should I/Can I make my 40g the temporary start-up, replace the failing 60g, and go from there? How should I do this and must I get the G-Tech now?
While on this same question, I am getting conflicting information regarding how much my 733 G4 will recognize as far as each drive size. What is the max size each drive can be? What is the max combined?
*What I think I should do:*
I think I should buy the G-Tech, move my life over there, then use the working 40g as my start-up, replace the failing 60g with the largest possible when possible, make the replacement internal the start-up again, use or replace the working/existing 40g as storage/back-up, live happily ever after.
*And on a side note:*
I plan to drop two sticks of 512MB memory, this filling it up to it's max 1.5 gig of memory. Will this have a noticeable affect on my computer? If so, how?
Oh, and the reason I was opting for the Quad G-Tech is because can't I upgrade and add FW800 ports to my G4 rather easily?

First of all I cannot believe you have no backup strategy and only start to worry about it after problems arise. You're an accident waiting to happen. Before you consider anything make backups.
Basic Backup
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
2. Toast
3. Impression
4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore. Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
You can begin addressing the problems with your hard drive(s) after you get your stuff properly backed up. Once that's done get two larger drives for the computer and replace the small ones you now have. Your model should support hard drives up to 128 GBs in size. There is not specific limit on external drives so your external backup drive can be large enough to be partitioned into multiple volumes large enough to backup at least one of the internal drives (using the second internal drive as a backup for the first internal drive. This provides redundancy - an internal and an external backup.) You can then use the additional space on the external drive for your data files.
BTW, you risk catastrophic data loss by allowing the free space on your startup volume to drop below 3 GBs.
