Review swf files in review

I produce a lot of banners, amongst other files, for client review. Am I correct that Adobe have missed out SWFs as a supported format? If so, why!!!???

Hi Brian
Nope, sorry. No way to coax Captivate into placing all
content into a single .EXE unless you were to combine them all into
a massive project and publish that as .EXE. But that could be
fraught with issues.
Cheers... Rick

  • The Path to nowhere - help! swf files not showing in browser

i need help with getting a swf file to show in the browsers. (it previews in dreamweaver)
created a website in dreamweaver cs4. created a simple slideshow in flash 4.
on the index.html page inserted the flash file.
it previews in dreamweaver BUT when i text in browsers it shows as a white box.
have been reading through all the info about paths etc.
can you simplify this entry below from adninjastrator on the adobe forums sept 19 2011???........
"Still looks like a pathing problem to me. For review:
    Pathing issues
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.

i am not sure why this sounds so foreign to me.....
i understand the page code instructs the browser to find and load the flash file from a path.
i do not understand "/2812gtbros.swf (i.e. start at the root of the site and look for that filename in that location)
i have the html fla and swf file in the folder on my computer named 212GTflashpics (2012freelance/2012gtbrothers/212GTflashpics/2812gtbros.swf) and i have it in the website folder GTbrothers1 with all the images scrpts sprys and html files
the files be in the website folder o
    in your previous Question...
    "This line -
    <param name="movie" value="/2812gtbros.swf" />
is telling the browser to look for the flash file in the root of the website.  Is that where it is?"
what is before the / in the value=" /2812gtbros.swf? wouldnt that tell us the path of the file?

  • FLV embedded in a SWF file, does not play in HTML file.

    Hi,
I embedded a FLV file into flash movie clip, which on publish plays well on SWF file, but when the same is embedded in HTML, it does not play.
What is it i'm missing ..
    Kindly help.
    Regards
    Shashi

First, clarify this... are you embedding the .flv into the time line, as in:
The .FLV file is imported on the  timeline of a movie clip.
    I embedded the .flv file,
If you are in fact embedding the video, then there is no external video file... it's embedded into the timeline.
If you are using the FLVPlayback component and an external vid file to display the video and the .swf when testing plays the video just fine but not on the HTML Web page:
SWF plays external video file, as soon as I embed SWF in HTML, it no longer playes the external video file.
then it's most likely a pathing problem.
If you are placing the .swf on a Web page and the .swf and/or the .flv file are not both in the same folder as the Web page.... then the .swf should NOT work when you test it directly! That's because it should be pathed to play from the Web page and not the location of the .swf.
    For your review:
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.

  • Help with inserting SWF file into .html page

I created a photo gallery in Flash CS5.5, using the advanced photo gallery template. It works fine as a standalone SWF file but it's not displaying properly when I try and insert it into the Gallery page of my website.
The thumbnails are showing as blank white boxes and the main image holder isn't showing at all, though the controls beneath it are showing. The SWF file and all the images are stored in site/images/gallery/ and my Gallery page is in the root. What's going on here? Can anyone help please?
    Thanks

If you are storing any of your Flash assets in sub-folders and having problems... it's most likely because of pathing problems. For review:
    Pathing issues

What it boils down to is that you need to path the Flash assets from the Web page that you place the main .swf on... NOT the physical location of the .swf

Print the reviewer the original document the course content
was initially built from if they want it in print format. To expect
a flash SWF to print the same way as a Microsoft Word document way
is just stupid, think of the SWF's timeline and number of
movieclips (and movieclips within movieclips) and how much
information can be contained within it and how it might not always
be in a linear format (eg. like a Word Doc) = your answer which is
Flash is designed for online delivery of rich media content, where
Microsoft Word is designed for printing.

  • Lines over images and around text in Captivate SWF file

My project works & views fine in captivate and when published, it views fine on my mac - through flash player and browsers. But when I send a swf file to the client to view they see odd lines above and below images.
But they dont see the lines when they view the htm file within a browser - then it views fine.
The lines only appear when there's text over an image.
    Screen shots attached.
My captivate project was created by importing a Powerpoint document, with images and text on each slide.
I've changed the optimisation / slide quality through prefrences and on each slide to the highest quality.
I've also un-selected the advanced slide compression.
Is there another thing I can try to iron out these lines?
Some of the images within Powerpoint are stretched, would this cause the lines?
Is it a flash player issue?
    Or a zooming issue?
    Any help is much appreciated!

    Thanks Lilybiri,
I am a new user & just finding my way
I understand how to publish and how Captivate creates a zipped file with a SWF, HTML, JS and CSS files etc. (Im using Captivate 7).
How do you send Captivate projects to clients for review / approval before you supply them with the whole project zipped file?
So far I've been sending them the swf file to check. And have had troubles with them viewing the lines over images and around text. Even though I cant see the lines.
I need the client to see what I'm seeing - a project without any lines.

  • Bringing Flash .swf files into Captivate

    Greetings,
I use Captivate 2.0. I have been trying to bring a Flash .swf
file into Captivate with very little success. The flash file is
clickable (so that users can review case study information as they
complete Try It simulations). When I bring the Flash .swf file into
Captivate, it works. However, correction (or failure messages)
display every time the user clicks the Flash .swf file. Is there
anything that I can do within Captivate to stop this issue?
Ideally, I would like the Flash .swf to run on top of the Captivate
file so that users can view the case study details without having
    to see the failure messages.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this. I
hope it makes sense to you.

Hi Zabcde (or PMW or P?)
Can I just understand (sorry for being thick) your situation.
You're trying to get a flash movie into a captivate session that
the user can work on, see, interact with whilst they're also going
through a Captivate simulation (try it)? Does that mean that slides
are advancing for the simulation whilst you're watching the flash
movie? Or are they watching the Flash movie as a kind of help to
then go and do the Try It session?
If it's the first, then I would suggest calling the Flash swf
and the Captivate swf as seperate instances in flash (using
loadmovienum or something). If it's the second, you should be able
to remove the failure captions from that slide so they don't bug
    you.
Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick though
    Cheers
    AJ (jiminiCricket)

  • How to play Swf files on the iPad??

Just as the title sated, how to play sef files on the iPad, since the iPad lack of flash support, and I don't find any program to handle with the swf files to playing on my iPad

Depending on what sites you are trying to access, you might find that some of them (probably more so if they are news sites) have their own apps in the App Store which might let you get some of the content that you want (and there is the built-in YouTube app). Also there are browsers such as Skyfire which 'work' on some sites - but judging by the reviews not all sites. If you want to play flash games then you are out of luck if you want to play on-line (unless something like the iSwiffter app work with it), but again some of them have app versions in the store.

  • Is there any app to support Flash swf files on iPad?

  • Errors when trying to publish SWF File

I have a Flash file that I created in Flash 4 I believe...Now I am trying to edit it with Flash Professional CC.  Well, when I make the slightest change and hit:
File, Publish settings, review the options, then click ok nothing happens.  However, if I hit File, Publish, the bar goes to about 44% and I get the following errors:
THen the SWF file shows the changes, but is erratic and keeps rapidly cycling on and off.  Can anyone help???
    Thanks

Flash CC does not support AS1/AS2 publishing.  You'll need to use Flash Pro CS6 or earlier.  If you subscribe to the Cloud I believe CS6 is available with it.

  • C6-00 swf files problem

Hello, I have a problem with opening swf files (games, utilities...). It's not the problem duo the settings, I'm sure. A while a go (3 weeks) it was all ok. I have instaled many (many many) various application, and of course I had to delete some of them later  ....
I must've deleted something I shouldn't have. Anyway, I did try to solve it by reinstaling the firmware, and reseting the phone to the factory settings. No success
So, the phones behaviour is like this:when I klick/tap on same icon for swf file (application), the screen goes blank for about 1/3 of a sec, and nothing happens. That's it.
It seems like I deleted some libraries or something....
Does anyone have a suggestion on this matter?
    Thank you in advance.
    Marko

i have the same problem way back when Nokia C6-00 was new. As you review my posts history, you'll see that this problem of yours also bugs me before.
The only solution to the problem is simple: just put more pressure on the dedicated camera key after you hear the beeping sound.
the dedicated camera key has two-step button. the first step activates the auto-focus, then the second captures it.

  • Since swf files cannot be attached to published flash documents for iPad, what format can be attached?

I have a multi-page animated book for iPad developed in Flash 6. Because of its length and to run more smoothly on an iPad, I’ve divided the pages into fifty separate documents –the last frame of each each page would load the next page, a back button would load the previous page. My question is: since an swf file or anything containing actionscript 3 coding cannot be imported or attached to a published flash document, does Adobe have a solution to this problem?

The complexity with this idea is the software has to run from a Mac computer on your network.. so you need a Mac turned on, probably most of the day.
It isn't possible to partition the TC although you can create a image area.
The software would have to copy the material, that means all files to be copied, go from USB drive, back to the Mac, then back to the TC, and written to the drive. In other words you have just added Network congestion, although a proper incremental backup type software will not actually use a lot of capacity.
Finally it will be slow.. network drives are slower than internal drives. Well USB connected drive is much slower than the same drive connected directly to the computer.. and if the drive is connected directly to a computer it can be shared with the network.
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4577/airport-extreme-5th-gen-and-time-capsule-4th- gen-review-faster-wifi-/4
Read carefully the speed of the USB drive plugged into the TC.

    Hi All,
Any one here familiar on working with SandVox websites from www.Karelia.com? I just designed a flash player for a new client, and now his having problems trying to embed it. The vidPlayer uses an xml file and plays the required video from the same location as the swf file.

  • Don't play SWF files in Advanced Account. In administrator account OK.

    Hi from Spain!
I have a serious problem... xDDD
I have a PC with 3 accounts in Windows XP: administrator, advanced user and guest user. I have too, two internet browsers (internet explorer and Mozilla Firefox). In administrator account, flash player and shockwave runs perfectly in both browsers, BUT in the other two accounts, I can't play SWF files in Internet Explorer. In mozilla it runs perfectly too.
I have reviewed the internet settings of Security (custom level -- ActiveX settings) and they're exactly as administrator.
I have installed flash and shockwave again. I have unistalled and installed later. I have installed from advanced account AS administrator and the problem persists...
I don't know what to try next...
some many ideas?? thanks a lot!!!!

Maybe you need to allow 3rd-party content at http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.htm l
Also try to disable Hardware Acceleration under Flash Player Settings.

  • Unable to play audio stream in a swf file

Making a swf file that reacts like a button: it plays sound
when you pass over it. Or should play. When the button keyframes
sound options are set to "start" or "event", there is no problem,
it works well. But it doesn't work if I set to "stream". My
original file is an mp3. Is there something special avout it? Help
tutorials didn't help me so far...

With "stream" you have to make sure there are enough frames
in the movie to play the whole sound file. Try adding some frames
and see if it plays then.
