RH7 Topics in TOC  don't display in Help

I'm using RH7; I create Web Help and printed documentation, both Word and pdf versions. All of my topics are in the TOC. However, two of the topics (which are in the TOC) don't appear in the generated Help or in either version of the printed documentation. If you jump to them from internal links, they show up, but they don't appear in the geneated Help's or printed documentation's TOC. ?!?
It's particularly a problem in the printed documentation, for when I want to create a user's manual from the file and only find out by accident that something is missing.
I've tried restarting the program and restarting the computer. :-) Windows xp professional.
Thanks for any tips!
Lance

Hi there
Do these topics simply not appear in the TOC to click on or is it more that you see them in the TOC, but clicking does not produce an action?
Do you have any Conditional Build Tags applied?

  • New topics are compiled in but don't display when help button is pressed

    Folks,
I'm using RoboHelp HTML Build 6. I am the only writer who uses RH and have been using this build for 2 years or so.
I recently got a new map file from the developer containing 2 new map IDs. I used the same steps to import the map file, create the new topics, and map them to the new map IDs that I have been using for years. But when I compiled RH and pasted the chm into the application folder, those 2 new topics don't display when the help button is clicked on the dialog box to which they are mapped.
When I generate the chm I can look at the output at the bottom of RH project view and see that that the 2 new htm files are being compiled into the RH project. I can also see them if I open the generated chm and go into the TOC and click on a link to them.
Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried redoing the usual procedure (see below) for the importing and mapping from scratch several times. I have also tried BugHunter (see below).
Procedure for Importing and Mapping (this time the help for all the older dialog boxes works but not for the 2 new ones)
    1. Open the new map (.hm) file from the developer and add #define followed by a space to each entry beginnng with the string HID in the new map file (I don't know why but nothing works unless I do this.)
    2. Delete the old map file from the RH project.
    3. In Windows Explorer, copy the new .hm file into the RH project folder.
4.In Project Manager view, open Context-Sensitive Help. Right-click on Map Files. Select Import. Browse and select the new map file.
    6. Map the new topics using File, Edit Map IDs.
    7. Generate the .chm and pasted it into the application where it always goes.
    BugHunter Procedures and Results
I first tried the Test HTML Help API dialog.
I specified the .CHM file I compiled and tested both options:
--HH_DISPLAY_TOPIC: I put in the name of the new help (htm) file and its relative path and clicked Help. Nothing happened.
--HH_HELP_CONTEXT: I put in the Map Number for the new dialog box and clicked Help. The new help topic I had created displayed.
I also used the Tools tab in BugHunter to do a CSH (context sensitive help) Test. I identified the chm file and opened it and put in a new map number, then clicked Show Help. Nothing happened.

    Welcome to the RH forums.
On the surface it sounds like you have done everything correctly so it should just be a case of going back and double checking that you have the correct CHM, that the mapid is exactly the same as in the app and that the app has been updated.

  • RH7 Topics in ToCs report?

I have a project that has 11 different layouts: 2 go to
WebHelp, 9 go to Word, with variable content determined by both
ToCs and conditional build tags. The customer wants minor changes
to a few topics in the Word output. The quickest way is to edit the
individual Word docs and the Source files separately, because of
the time it takes to generate new output to in Word and then
reformat the content to make it look good.
Is there an easy way to find out, for a particular topic,
which ToC (or layout) it appears in? 114 topics x 11 ToC variants =
a lot of lists to cross-check!

    Hi Philip.
I fear there is no easy solution to this. I seem to remember
you use RH7? I don't use that version and can't remember if it has
the ability to report over multiple layout. I don't think so.
What I would do is print off each of the 11 TOCs. You can do
this from the output files. Then use the Topic Properties to report
on the build tags. You can turn this on (and all the other options
off) via the options tab. You could use this report to identify
which tags are applied to specific topics and then mark the TOC
    topic entry with a highlighter.
As I said, it's far from pretty but is a way of simplifying
things a little and reducing the risk of missing things.

  • Use Topic in TOC more than once...

We have just purchased RoboHelp 6 for our Help System
generation as well as to begin developing online training courses.
I have a WebHelp File that contains 5 books - one book per
procedure. I have a topic that is applicable to two procedures.
Without having to make a copy of the topic, is it possible to set
up the TOC to use the topic in question more than once?
The problem arises when I am setting up the Browse Sequence.
I tried to set up the Browse Sequence using the Auto-create using
TOC...option, but the sequence appears to be in alphabetically
order. In fact, it is in no way, shape or form even close to the
TOC (as indicated in the Help - Topics in each browse sequence will
be in the same order as in the TOC)!!!
So, I tried to manually create the browse sequence. I used a
browse sequence to contain all topics, then I set up another browse
sequence to contain the duplicate topic. When I use the navigation
arrows to move through the toc, it will not advance to the second
    browse sequnce.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
    in advance.
    Lisa

    Hi LNT1
The trick to all this is to never directly link from the TOC
to the desired topic. Let's assume the TOC should have a topic
appearing in two different places. In order to make this work, you
link from two different redirect pages.
Now if you generate WebHelp, I see where there could be an
issue, because the browse sequence can only link from one topic to
another. In other words, a topic can only have a single link to and
a single link from it. So in this case, the redirect trick would
fail. However, another trick comes to mind that may work. Instead
of a Redirect page, you could have two different pages that instead
of redirecting, contained an Inline Frame (IFRAME) that simply
displayed the contents of the desired page. Basically, the pages
containing the IFRAME would link properly and provide the desired
    effect.
For more on IFRAMEs, download my Tips and Tricks file and
scan it for how to create IFRAMES.
    Cheers... Rick

  • TOC Won't Display in WinHelp

I am updating a WinHelp project that was previously developed
in X3 but which I am now trying to update and compile in RoboHelp 7
for Word. The TOC won't display (i.e., the TOC navigation panel at
the left doesn't display) when the help is launched. When viewing
the TOC in the single panel window by clicking the Help Topics
button, the links do work. There is a CNT file. I tried deleting
the GID file (as suggested by Adobe), and using the old CNT file
that worked in the previous version of the project. Anyone else
    experience this with RoboHelp 7?

We're getting the same issue here. We compile - looks great. We copy the hlp and cnt files to another computer and the TOC disappears. We're using RoboHelp for Word and have been since v5. Can anyone help on this? All topics are there; links work, graphics great, but the Table of Contents has vanished.
If I run the AutoGenerate TOC function, the TOC disappears completely from the system. Bear in mind, this is the same file we've been working from for the last 3 years and up until now has been working. We recently updated to v7 and upgraded again to v8 today.
I really appreciate any guidance anyone can give.

  • Breadcrumbs not compatible with multiple instances of a topic in TOC; any solution?

My master page places a breadcrumb on every page in my project.
When I add a topic to the TOC in two or more places, and I compile the project and click the second or the nth instance of said topic in the TOC, the TOC always "jumps" to the first instance. I cannot look at the second or the nth instance of that topic in the TOC. (Of course, the text is identical in all n places, but I want to TOC to stay in the branch that the user expects to be.) BUT IF I TAKE THE BREADCRUMB OUT of the master page, the multiple instances of a topic behave perfectly. If I cannot use breadcrumbs, I'll have a huge problem. Can this be fixed?

    Hi there
My guess is that the breadcrumbs are a red herring. Normally what causes the bizarre jumping around is the fact that the project has been configured to synchronize the TOC with the displayed topic.
One way past this is to never link more than once to a topic in the TOC. Of course, this causes an issue if you need more than one TOC entry point into the topic, no? So there are a couple of ways past it.
Use redirect pages that point to the desired topic. This way the Redirect page synchronizes with the TOC and you still see the topic.
Use an Inline Frame (IFRAME) to display the topic inside another page. Similar to the Redirect technique, but instead of loading another page, you present a page with a window that displays the topic.
Hopefully something here either helps directly or sparks a thought that does.

  • Toc does not display in FF3

I have a webhelp that works fine on Windows Explorer but with
FF 3 on all operating systems the toc is not displayed and the
search does not work - has anyone got a solution for this
    problem?

You don't say whether or not temporarily removing it
identified the conflict. If it is, whose fault is it, Adobe's or
    the Firebug people?
You can only report it as a bug to both and see what happens.

  • Some graphs don't display in OEM Grid Control 10gR5 (10.2.0.5)

A number of the performance graphs (e.g. Top Activity) don't display i.e. there is nothing but if if you right-click in the empty area you get a small pull down with Print, Settings, About Adobde Flash 10.
This has all happend after upgrading to 10.2.0.5. OMS and client environment is:
    Windows 2003 SP2 (32 bit), IE 6 with Flash ActiveX 10, Flash Player 10.
Anyone got any ideas or anyone got it working fine.
    Thanks.

Windows Server 2008 OEM 11g Performance graphs do not display.
Click OEM Performance Tab and IE7 information bar displays message:
"Your security setting do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly."
Workaround: Disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration in Windows Server 2008
Unlike with previous versions of Windows Server in which you could disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration by removing the component in Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components
the Windows Server 2008 implementation of Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is configured through Server Manager.
Select the root of the Service Manager navigation pane, and under the Server Summary click Configure IE ESC, which is part of the Security Information section.
A dialog box appears, letting Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration be enabled/disable separately for normal users and administrators.

  • Topics in TOC are not being published in Word output

    Windows 7
    RoboHelp 9.0.2.271
    Word 2010
I am having an on again/off again problem with RH not publishing all topics.
The topics are in the RH TOC and when I double-click them while in RH, they open for editing.
However, when I publish these same topics, they are not in the Word document--although they are in the web help.
Previous fixes include rebuilding the TOC (groan) or finding that rogue piece of code that causes topics not to print in Word or web help.
Question 1:  Does anyone know why this is happening?
Question 2:  Short of manually comparing RH TOCs against Word and web help (for 13 books), does anyone have any ideas on how to ensure all topics are included in the output?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Mary

There's a common misconception that what is in your TOC gets published.
The TOC is used the first time you generate a printed document. Thereafter, there is no update for good reason, you may want different topics. To update to what is in the TOC you need to click the Left arrow to clear everything from the right pane, then click the right arrow to put the new version of the TOC across to the right.
If you look at the current version of the TOC you will see some books on the left are not highlighted. That indicates there are topics in that book that are not on the right.

  • Events added in iCal don't display in Google Calender

I'm using my google address for iCal as I don't have a MobileMe account.
Events added in Google Calender display in iCal, but events added to this account in iCal don't display in Google Calender. I have tried subscribing to my Google Calender in iCal, but the address isn't recognized by iCal.
I have even tried deleting and re-adding my Google Calender, but still no joy.
Are the calenders I am using in iCal and Google the same calender, or are they actually different calenders with the same username? Someone help me sync the **** calenders!

I'm sorry my answer to Clint is not what you want.
iCal and Google on their own do not do what you want.
There are/were some third party add-ins that worked in the way you describe that were mainly developed before Google Calendar had CalDAV integration.

  • Math fonts don't display in mail messages?

For some reason when I receive a mail message with math - fractions, equations, etc. these characters don't display.  My husband has an iPhone 4 and this isn't a problem on his phone.  I am wondering how I can get these characters to display?
    Thanks

    Hi markatos
    Hi Rick Van Vliet
I have the same problem, and I can also (only) underline text.
Since upgrading to Tiger (10.4.8) from Panther 10.3.9, I have experienced a few daft functional problems, eg the 'Enter' key not working on the calculator (the standard one, not the Dashboard version). This turned out to be a '.plist' problem.
Mail was marking all outgoing mail as 'Junk' ... '.plist' problem again.
But I cannot see how to sort this one ... at the moment I am having to format text on a Stickie then paste it into a Mail message in order to do simple things like bold headings (I don't need any more than this really). So the 'Font' palette is working. Message format is set to 'Rich Text'.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • An error prevents TOC from being displayed on IE8

    Hello,
I am using RH 9.0.1 and IE 8.0.7. When I compile a help project in webhelp format, the TOC is not displayed in the output result. A yellow error icon is displayed in the lower left corner of the browser window with the following information:

The same occurs in Google Chrome. Does anybody know how this could be fixed?
    Thank you in advance,
    Tony

    Hello Wiliam,
    Thank you for your reply.
You are right, the search and index are not working either. I knew about the Chrome issue when opened locally. If I follow the instructions on the website you mentioned, the webhelp will show the contents, but not the TOC, and the Index and Search do not work either. The same problem occurs on Firefox 3.6.3. I am not using Chrome Frame in Internet Explorer.
Basically, what I get is a blank TOC, a blank Index and the Search does not work. When I click on the "Error on page" yellow icon I get the error message I posted above. Any suggestions?
I've used RH 7 before and I never had this issue.

  • Word docs don't display fonts since upgrade to 10.6.

Word docs don't display fonts since upgrade to 10.6.  Got this error message in Console:
    6/14/11 9:38:14 AM          [0x0-0x11011].com.microsoft.Word[140]          Tue Jun 14 09:38:14 Michael-2.local FontCacheTool[144] <Error>: ATSFontGetPostScriptName failed: error -984.

Thanks but I searched and searched there.  Nothing listed that addresses this issue.  Am I the only person to upgrade to 10.6 and have a problem with seeing type in Word afterwards?  Does anyone understand what the error message means?

  • In Firefox 15.0.1, jpegs don't display in body of email, even in older saved emails that were originally o.k. Photos display fine in Explorer.

jpeg photos sent to me in emails don't display -- just get a torn page type box. Prior emails saved in folders are also affected. If I forward the email to an email account in Explorer they work fine.

Thanks, but I had already tried these Firefox suggestions. I don't think it is a Firefox problem after all, since even when I load my Yahoo email account in Explorer the images don't display. Interestingly enough, when I forward them to my husband's Yahoo account, or my Google account, the jpegs display fine. This appears to be a somewhat new problem, and only in MY Yahoo email account. I have not knowingly made any changes to it in the last few weeks. I've tried to find suggestions in Yahoo's site and in my service provider's site (AT&T). No luck.

  • My thumbnails don't display

I had to restore my hard disk via Time Machine, and my iPhoto software doesn't work right.  When I open it, the thumbnails don't display.  If you double-click on a blank tile, the photo shows up.  How do I get my thumbnails re-connected.  I have already done a permissions fix and re-installed iLife '11.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the options to rebuild the thumbnails. You may need to repeat this three or four times in my experience.
