Right program to use?

im trying to figure out it effects is the right program for me to use, i want to creat an intro for my movie. basically a picture slowly zooming out then have text thrown on top of it, shake the screen a bit and cover some of the picture. would effects be the right program to use?

zooyork: After Effects is definitely the market leader for anything related to "intro for my movie". In other words, animation with typography, graphics and video. There's nothing that can match AE's power for that. But it's an application that rewards users who are passionate about learning it - so, do you feel like learning a very fun but deep application? If yes, then you know what to do
The app comes with excellent documentation (available and expanded online). If you go to amazon.com, for instance, you'll also see there's a ton of great books on After Effects. And the web is full of tutorials on everything related to it. As you can see, a very fun application if you enjoy learning.

When I close Photoshop CS6, the following message appears: "Could not save Preferences because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file.

When I quit Photoshop CS6, the following message appears:

If I try to change the Workspace in PS6 from Essentials to any other Workspace, the following messsage appears:

I have checked the Sharing and Permissions section of the "Get Info" panel accessed from the Finder and I have set Read and Write Privileges for my user account for Photoshop CS6. System and Admin are also set to Read and Write.
I have a MacBook Pro with OS X Version 10.9.5 and have all available updates for Photoshop CS6, Lightroom 5 and Bridge CS6.
I tried uninstalling the program and downloading it again and reinstalling, but nothing changed.
Can you help?

I am looking for a program that I can:
Import files that were recorded on a DVR (mp4 format)
Take two files placed next to each other on one screen and record a DVD

Premiere can do a PiP, Picture in Picture (basically, your PiP is one half of the frame), BUT your MP4 source is not the best to edit, especially with PP. If you had DV-AVI files, Captured in PP from a miniDV (tape) vid-cam, it would do a great job, but so would its little brother Premiere Elements, which wants the same source files as PP.
I have not used Womble, that Jeff recommends, but think that it has PiP. Ideally, you want to keep any re-compression down to a minimum, as you are already working with compressed MPEG files, and every additional re-compression WILL cause image degredation. Depending on the CODEC used to create your MP4 files, you have probably lost a lot of info already, and when you go to MPEG-2 (DV CODEC), for DVD, you'll loose even more. About the only way that I see you keeping any quality is if your MP4's are coded for Blu-Ray, and you can find a program with Smart Render, leaving them just as they are, allowing you to edit, then burning to a BD. Lot of "if's" in that.
I'd check out Womble and see if it can do PiP and if it works with MP4. If Jeff recommended it, it's very likely to do that. Juat expect a major quality hit, because you're already compressed the heck out of the image data once, and will have to do it again.
You could convert your MP4's to DV-AVI with a 3rd party program, Import them into PP, or PE, edit and then burn to DVD - with Encore in PP, or directly from PE. See above for comments on quality hit. It's those source files that are the problem. That format is meant for distribution/viewing and not for editing. The effect, however, is easy as can be. There are many tutorials on how to do it with variations, on the Web, but nearly all NLE programs want better source material to start, if any quality is to be maintained.
I'd also post on the Premiere Elements forum, as a lot of people there work with less than ideal source files, and might know of good free, or cheap, conversion programs to use. If you have the CODEC on your machine, DigitalMedia Converter can handle the conversion for you, and do it in batch. It's cheap at ~ US$45, and can batch process, but it cannot improve the quality, or get back the data lost in the first compression - nothing can.
If this is all you want to do, with the above comments on conversion first taken seriously, Premiere Elements will cost about US$100 and do it easily.

i've learn link-list,b-tree,red black tree,hash table. now it's time for me to implement a program using any one of these. i've no idea about how to start, and what kind of program should i write? what kind of program use data structure? i want some simple example program to make me understand. can anyone help me?

Okay, let's say you want to try binary search. You could do that on an array, on a singly linked list, on a doubly linked list, probably on others that I can't think of right now.
If you just want practice using the data structures you've learned, then why not write a binary search over several different ones? That will give you a feel for how they differ in usage and performance.
Or, you can just pick any kind of program that interests you. Unless it's trivially small and simple, there will probably be a use for one or more of the data strux you've learned.
A chat program needs data structures to hold curently connected users, ongoing conversations, maybe a queue for messages waiting to be sent.
A card game needs to be able to search to see if a given card is in a given hand. Needs to hold all the cards in a deck that has to be shuffled. Dealing is like popping off a stack.
A database of students and their courses might want to keep something in an ordered tree--by last name for instance.

That program uses a logical database to get the data. This is why it looks different. Don't worry, as long as you can verify the data against something else, you can do it the way that you are. Personally, I never use logical databases.

What is the best program to use to burn dvd's from iMovie? I guess with ilife, idvd doesn't come with it anymore...

Please recommend a good program to use. I just want to be able to put my movies from imovie to dvd for my family to watch on regular dvd player. I have been exporting it out to my home computer and burning with adobe premerie but gettings sick of having to use two computers. Thanks for any info you can provide.

It's there if you buy iDVD, you can purchase iLife 11 (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

What program to use

I'm wanting to burn some mp3s to a dvd but I'm have no clue which program to use. I just want to make a simple data disc and a few files are NOT mp3s so do I use itunes or idvd or is there another program to use? I've only be a mac owner for about 3 weeks now so I'm still trying to familiarize myself with these unfamiliar programs. Thanks for the help.

Your Leopard will do that for you...
1. Select your desktop (Finder should appear near top-left)
2. Goto File>New Burn Folder - A new folder will appear on the desktop, if you don't change its name it will be called 'Burn Folder'
3. Drag required files to this folder
4. Open 'Burn Folder', near top right of view should be the words 'Burn'
5. Blank disc in, hit burn
Alternatively you could try SimplyBurns from http://simplyburns.berlios.de/
In addition to all that you'll find loads of free Mac software at http://www.coolosxapps.net/ to get you started.

LabVIEW 8.2 can't work with DAQmx program written using LabVIEW8.0 ?

My old LabVIEW program is using the DAQmx sub-vis from folder: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\DAQmx
e.g. C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\DAQmx\create\channels.llb\DAQmx Create Channel (AI-Voltage-Basic).vi
After I installed LabVIEW 8.2 and NIDAQ831.zip (~600MB), there isn't a folder called DAQmx in folder:
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\
When I load my old program, it need I specify the location of, e.g. DAQmx Create Channel (AI-Voltage-Basic).vi,
I copied DAQmx folder from \LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\ to \LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\
After I copied the DAQmx folder, right click on "block diagram" under "measurement I/O" the folder "NI-DAQmx" comes out and I can pick all the vis inside "NI-DAQmx"
However, all the vis are not executable.
My old program find all the vis needed to load; however, the vis are not executable, e.g. DAQmx Create Channel (AI-Voltage-Basic).vi, please see the attachment.
Anyone know how to solve this? Thanks.

You should make sure that in the installer options of DAQmx the support VI's for LV 8.2 are installed.

[W520] Programs not using NVIDIA graphics

Quadro 1000M. Windws 7. Optimus set in the BIOS. I have the newest drives on the Lenovo website (8.17.12.7658). Plugged in to AC power.
The NVIDIA graphics are specified for certain programs in the NVIDIA control panel, also tried right click-->run with NVIDIA graphics.
Device manager shows both the Intel and NVIDIA display adapters with no problems.
When I plug in an external monitor the NVIDIA graphics are used, the NVIDIA GPU activity monitor says "1 display connection". If I try to start a program with the NVIDIA graphics while an external display is connected, the program still won't use the NVIDIA GPU.
I just ran WEI and for the first time ever the NVIDIA GPU Activity indicator actually lit up a few times, mostly during the "Windows Media Tuning" section, and my graphics score went up from 5.2 to 6.4, so the system is sometimes able to use the NVIDIA graphics. Although if I hovered the mouse over the NVIDIA GPU indicator it said "GPU activity: none", even while it was lit up, and GPU-Z indicated no NVIDIA GPU activity for the entire WEI test. I can't figure out what "Windows Media Tuning" means or what exactly is being tested here. [Edit] A WEI test with only integrated graphics enabled in the BIOS also gets 6.4 so the increase from 5.2 to 6.4 wasn't a result of the WEI test using the NVIDIA graphics. With discrete graphics set in the BIOS I get 6.7.
GPU-Z also indicates that the NVIDIA graphics are not being used (GPU load stays at 0%). But if I have GPU-Z set to monitor the NVIDIA graphics then the NVIDIA activity indicator lights up, but again it still says "GPU activity: none".
Sometimes when I start a program (eg. Photoshop), the NVIDIA GPU Indicator will light up for a second then go out. This happens whether I try to start the progam with the Intel or NVIDIA GPU.
If I set the BIOS to discrete graphics then the NVIDIA card is used properly, according to GPU-Z (ie. GPU load shows activity).
I'm pretty sure this all used to work properly, but I don't know when it stopped working. I just upgraded Photoshop and wanted to see if it was using the NVIDIA graphics so that's how I noticed the problem. It's been several months since I used the NVIDIA GPU Activity Monitor and I just got GPU-Z to try troubleshoot this problem.
In the ThinkVantage Toolbox when I go to video diagnostics, only the Intel GPU is listed. But, if I first start GPU-Z and have it monitor the NVIDIA graphics, then start the ThinkVantage Toolbox, the NVIDIA GPU is also listed and I can run a Short Video test (stress test is only available for the Intel graphics), although the test doesn't really run anything (it just takes a second and doesn't display any of the animation). If I leave the ThinkVantage Diagnostics window open, close GPU-Z, and try to run a test on the NVIDIA GPU again it says "No Device". GPU-Z while set to monitor the NVIDIA GPU seems to "turn on" or "prime" the NVIDIA GPU so that the diagnostic test can use it. This doesn't work for other programs (ie. even if GPU-Z is monitoring the NVIDIA GPU, the NVIDIA GPU still won't be used by any other programs I subsequently start). If I have an external monitor plugged in I can run all the NVIDIA diagnostic tests (short test with graphics, stress test, CUDA test). I just ran the short test and everything passed.
***This last bullet point seems important to me, is this normal behaviour? Can it point to where the problem is?

Is InDesign the right program to create an App?

1.) Is InDesign the right program?
Hi, I´m trying to create an app which mainly consist of text, pictures and maybe videos. The goal is to substitute Word and Power Point documents by one single app to make it more interactive. So it should include Buttons that link to different pages, a navigation bar (drop-down list) etc.
Is InDesign the right program for this? Or is Fireworks better? Or is there any other program I can use? It should be an easy program which you can use without having programming experience.
2.) Is it possible to create an app that only I can use (and some people I like to share it with)?
How long does it take to convert an interactive pdf to an app?
3.) Link different documents in InDesign.
Is it possible to create a button that links to a page on another document? I want that it isn´t possible to scroll through all pages but only those with the same content. So if you press “button 1” it links to the page with “content 1” but from there it should not be possible to go to the next page with another content but only to go back to the page where “button 1” etc. is. I think that I need different documents for this but I don´t know how to link buttons and different documents…

Creating an APP is a very in-depth process. And getting the few people to be able to share it, can be difficult.
You probably would do better with an interactive PDF. Your main concern would be finding a PDF reader for iPads and tablets that will play all your buttons. But that's not really a problem.
If I can be so bold, you might want to look at my book, Digital Publishing with Adobe InDesign CS6. (Don't let the CS6 throw you, for your needs, everything is the same.)

Photoshop won't start: Could not open a scratch file because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file.

I've tried finding and checking and fixing permissions but no success.
This happened from one day to the next. I think it has to do with the sn attached to the disk rather then the motherboard. I have the suite co-installed with Symphony 5.05. I've tried reinstalling.
What's to b done? The rest of the Creative Suite 6 (AE, AI etc.) works fine.

Close ... before going for a specific Cisco app ... lets find out some details:
Host we need more details:
What is your server environment (Windows Server, or Mac OS X Server, or Linux)?
What security is implemented in your environment - as what is restricted (RDP for all or specifc credentials on all machines? Are you part of local admin group to the server you wish to connect)?
Does your environment Support CISCO IPSec connection? If so use Settings> VPN and IPSec tab to enter VPN details, if not then go with above suggestion. IF your restricted to RSA then either built in VPN settings or 3rd party app for RSA would suffice.
Finally, there are many RDP applications out there I use "Mocha RDP Light" (free minimal ads when launched not when connecting).
