RMAN DUPLICATE and Restarting dead background process

Hi,
Has anyone come across the problem in 10.2.0.3 where there are continuous errors in the alert log :
Restarting dead background process QMN0
QMN0 started with pid=9?
I see this is a bug in Oracle 9 but was supposed to be fixed by 10. I have tried the solution for the Oracle 9 bug : ALTER SYSTEM SET aq_tm_processes=1; but no joy
This error started in the target database after I used RMAN -DUPLICATE to create another test database on the same server. The source is a 10.2.0.3 database with parameter compatibility set to 9.2.0.
Thanks

I have tried changing the compatibility parameter (on advice from Oracle Support) i.e. compatibility=10.2.0 on the target database but this has made no difference

    First the suggestion always include OS and database version, that's a great help. Since I don't have this information, only a vague guess: it could be bug
    Bug 3248886 - Continous 'restarting dead background process qmn0' message in alert.log
    As a workaround set AQ_TM_PROCESSES=0. Don't do this when Oracle Streams is used.

  • Restarting dead background process EMN0

    I'm running oracle 9.0.1.4 database on SunOS 5.8 and have serious problem: sometimes database restarts with following message in alert.log file:
    "Restarting dead background process EMN0"
    Then, database shutdown (immediate, close normal) and startup normal.
    No additional information is available in any of trc files.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks.

    Please help, i'm still in trouble.
    No one has encountered this error before?
    The strange this is i'm not able to connect with sqlplus directly from the server.
    On that server i have other 3 oracle instances which are running without problems and on which i can connect successfully.
    The environment variables set are the same:
    oracle_test> env | grep ORACLE
    ORACLE_BASE=/OraBin
    ORACLE_SID=uat
    ORACLE_TERM=3151
    ORACLE_HOME=/OraBin/product/8.1.7
    oracle_dev> env | grep ORACLE
    ORACLE_BASE=/OraBin
    ORACLE_SID=dev
    ORACLE_TERM=3151
    ORACLE_HOME=/OraBin/product/8.1.7
    TWO_TASK variable is not set.

  • Restarting oracle background process

    Hi all,
    How can I restart an oracle background process "database writer" (ora_dbw0) without
    restarting the oracle database?
    Can I use "kill -HUP PID"?
    Thanks alot.
    George

    if database statrts up without any intervention, no recovery is needed.
    but to be on the safe side, check SM21, ST22 and SM37 for cancelled jobs.

  • Concepts about Archieving process and Check point Background process

    I am still going through Oracle Architecture and presently on the background oracle process. I got struck about the function of Checkpoint process and how archieving process occurs. Any inputs from my friends here will be highly appreciated.

    I am still going through Oracle Architecture and presently on the background oracle process. I got struck about the function of Checkpoint process and how archieving process occurs. Any inputs from my friends here will be highly appreciated. Checkpoint is an act of cleaning the dirty blocks from buffer cache to disks in order to make fast recovery(if happens) if crash happens. Having said this, this process will make sure that oracle has to recovery minimum numbers of dirty block on instance recovery phase. So there is periodic flushing of dirty blocks from buffer cache to disks. In this periodic time CKPT process will post to DBWR process to write out the dirty blocks to disks. This is basically called the incremental checkpointing.
    In incremental checkpointing oracle will keep the record of most oldest block in controlfile and from this block (which is also called RBA), oracle will start recovering dirty blocks.
    There is also a full checkpoint in oracle which happen when redolog switch
    Now coming to archiving: An archive log is a copy of redo log files, it includes the sequence number and redo entries. Whenever there is a log switch (redo log files gets filled in circular fashion), then arch process will start archive filled redo log file. So during this process arch process will read the filled redo log files and make the copy of it in archive file. LGWR cannot write this filled redo file until ans unless arch process completes copying of redolog entries to archive log file.
    Archive log files are required for recovery if in future we wish to recover database during media/datafile/controlfile failure.

  • Background Processing, Selection Screens and Variants

    Hi All,
    I am having a little trouble Background Processing with Selection Screens and Variants.
    When a user runs my report and selects the option of background processing, then they select a checkbox. Once this is checked, they should go and fill in details, press Execute and voila a background process is created. However what is happening is that when i execute it then it asks for a variant. I do not want this to happen. I want the values in the selection screens to be used as default. Here is my code for background processing
    FORM START_BACKGROUND_PROCESSING.
      CALL FUNCTION 'BP_JOBVARIANT_SCHEDULE'
        EXPORTING
          TITLE_NAME            = 'End Customer Report '

  • Background Processing? how schedule job for "System Error" Message .

    Hello everyone,
    in sap help i have read.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/5a/f72040599a8f5ce10000000a155106/frameset.htm
    PCK> Monitoring>Message Monitoring-->Background Processing
    you can schedule jobs for various background processing:
    ●     Archiving of messages processed successfully
    ●     Deletion of messages that are not to be archived
    ●     Restarting of messages with errors
    ●     Rescheduling of lost messages
    can anyone understand this docu?
    give me some introduction, how can i define and schedule these jobs ?
    thx in advance!!
    best regards
    Yaning

    Background Processing
    Prerequisites
    You have started the message monitor on the initial screen of the PCK and are in Background Processing.
    Features
    Archiving
    You require two archiving sessions to archive messages:
    ●     One session to write the messages to the archive
    ●     One session to delete the persisted messages that have been archived
    To do this, you schedule an archiving job, which implicitly schedules the sessions to write to the archive and delete the archived messages.
    You can define one or more rules for each archiving job; these rules contain conditions that a message must meet in order to be archived by the job. At least one of the defined rules must be met for archiving to take place.
    All information that is displayed for a message in message monitoring is archived, in addition to the audit log for each message.
    Deleting
    A standard delete job is created automatically. It runs once a day. You can schedule additional delete jobs; however, you cannot define rules for them.
    Restarting
    Instead of restarting messages with errors manually with message monitoring, you can schedule a job to automatically restart these messages. This is possible for all messages for which the number of defined restart attempts has been exceeded (messages with the system error status).
    You can define one or more rules for each job to restart messages; these rules contain conditions that a message must meet in order to be restarted by the job. At least one of the defined rules must be met for archiving to take place.
    Rescheduling
    A standard job to reschedule messages is created automatically. The job runs once a day and ensures that messages lost as a result of database failure, for example, are rescheduled. You can schedule additional rescheduling jobs; however, you cannot define rules for them.
    Thx Aamir.
    But I mean the messages with errors in Adapter Engine , not in Intergrations Engine.
    the situation is like Naveen Pandrangi's WebLog
    II. Errors in Adapter Engine [XI :  How to Re-Process failed XI Messages Automatically|XI :  How to Re-Process failed XI Messages Automatically]
    I
    Till now we have seen how to resubmit/restart message that failed in Integration Engine.  One a message makes it from Integration Engine to Adapter Engine, the message is flagged as checked in Integration Engine. The status of the message in Adapter engine does not effect the processed state in Integration Engine. Now if this message was asynchronous, XI will by default try to restart the message 3 times at intervals of 5 minutes before the status of the message is changed from Waiting to System Error .
    *how can i schedule a job to automatically restart these messages with errors?
    best regards

    Is this because of the 'SYSDATE-2' in the RMAN runlist? Does RMAN connect back to the target and it does not find the logs, because they've been deleted, it aborts the duplicate? I've shipped over the backupset and controlfile of the scn I'm using in the duplicate runlist all is there? If I'm trying to cleanup the archive area, would'nt 'delete expired archivelog all' in my runlist, be better than using the 'SYSDATE-2'?
    Or is it because of this database parameter:
    control_file_record_keep_time= 7, should I set this to say 14?
    Is it one of these RMAN configurations:
    Retention Policy to Redundancy 1, should I set this to say 7?
    Datafile Backup Copies for Device Type Disk to 1, to say 3, this takes up disk space which is precious
    Archivelog Backup Copies for Device Type Disk to 1, to say 3, this takes up disk space too
    Archive deletion policy to none change this to the other option?
    I've tested this a few times now, and always fails if the dupicate is not done the next day.
    If I have to create a development database on a Friday from Tuesday's copy FROM TAPE, I will get the error, because the files are no longer on disk.
    What can I do to ensure that I can create an RMAN duplicate any day of the week from Tuesday to Sunday?
    Look forward to your answer.
    Please let me know if I left any details out that you may need.
    Sincerely,
    Elizabeth Burns

  • How to reset junk rules and restart training?

    My junk mail system has evidently developed a problem -- won't remember things that should be learned, and so on. How do I reset the junk rules and restart the training process? I think I've read somewhere that there's a file that has to be trashed, but I can't locate a likely candidate.
    Thanks,
    Steve.

    The thing is, what Roger suggested doesn’t reset the junk filter. It just resets the database that stores what the junk filter learns through training, which may accomplish what you want, but is not what you asked.
    To fully reset the junk filter, you must proceed as follows:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there unless you really know what you’re doing.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).
    4. You may also want to open Window > Previous Recipients and get rid of any addresses that you don’t want Mail to treat as legit.

  • Unable to connect to background process

    What is this error code all about and how can I fix it?

    Try going to the Compressor menu and selecting Reset Background Processing.
    If that doesn't work, try this:

  • Stop Sharing Process And Restart Final Cut Pro X

    Hello, i am pretty new to Final Cut Pro X. I have created and edited a video file in it. Now i am going to share it using Master File option. My question is that when the sharing process starts, which i can see in the background tasks option, is there any way i can stop the sharing process, let us say save what percentage is done, then close the Final Cut Pro X, and let us say i have to shutdown and restart my Mac again. Can i restart the sharing process from the same point???

    NNo. You can cancel the process, but you have to start over.

  • GUI_DOWNLOAD and background processing

    Hello,
    I have created a process which creates a file. this process uses GUI_DOWNLOAD to put the file on the users C drive or other directory on our network. The user wants to run this process in background and the program is returning a 6  (error unknown) from the GUI_DOWNLOAD FM. I was looking on SDN and found out the GUI_DOWNLOAD only works in foreground. You have to use OPEN and CLOSE DATASET statements to process in background. I am thinking about putting a button to denote foreground/background processing and using the appropriate statements to process the file. I will then have to get the file from the app server to a place will the user can get access to it.
    <b>first question</b> - is there a FM to do a FTP from the app server to a directory on our network for the user to access?
    <b>second question</b> - is this the right approach or is there something else that I should be doing.
    thanks in advance for your help

    Hi,
    Yes, your right, GUI_DOWNLOAD wil not work in background mode, you need to place the file in Application server, here.
    See the below link for a FTP program, use the proper commands(i do not know whether downloading the file is possible through the commands)
    http://www.sap-img.com/ab003.htm
    or else, write a small program which downloads the data from the application server, but it should run in the foreground

  • When I click to open firefox it says that "firefox is already running but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system" and I've tried to shut down and restart my computer but it keeps

    when i click to open firefox it says that "firefox is already running but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." and I've tried to shut down and restart my computer but it keeps showing the same message. I've even uninstalled Firefox and then reinstalled in the hopes that the problem would be solved but it this message is still popping up. What can I do to solve this problem?

  • ABAP trail 7.00 timeouts and background process

    Does anyone knows if it's possible to change the number of dialog and background processes?
    And the transaction to change the timeouts of such processes?
    Thank you

    you can change the timeout in rz11.Parameter-name is rdisp/max_wprun_time. Backgound processes habe no timeout, so this value is only valid for dia-processes
    To change the number, you have to adjust your instance profile. In the forum  'Netweaver Administrator' should be some information about that. So just the short hint: you can adjust the profiles in RZ10, but have to do some steps for that. Just search in NW-Admin-forum above.
