RMBP A1398 - unable to boot and install OS X

I changed keyboard from japanese to norwegian and the bottom cover. This went without complications.
When I booted with new hardware  - just grey Apple screen and a spinning wheel that stopped. Trying to recover, internet recovery, single mode, securety mode or all other suggested boot methods fails. It will not boot or install OS X. Hardware test simple and extended shows no problem with memory (16bg) and the 500 gb ssd.
I have of course tried reseeting pvram..etc nvram...
Using thunderbolt and another mac gives me access to the 500gb disk in my rMBP 15". I can even install Maverick using another MBP, but my rMBP will not boot even when OS X is correctly installed (boot the other MBP via thunderbold and my rMBP is OK).
I can install Windows 7 and 8 without any problems, but I need to have OS X installed. I used Mavericks and Windows 8.1 in bootcam earlier.
Linux rescue disk like Systemrescue boots correct and GPARTED can be used to partitionate the disk and formnat it as GUID disk. But trying to boot from a bootable USB or DVD using SuperDrive always stops after the Apple sign and spinning wheel stops.
Could it be the EFI bios settings? Is it poosible to update EFI without OS X installed? Any suggestions?

@killerpollo ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forum.  The first thing I would try in this situation is to download and burn the ISO from another computer.
If you have already set your boot options to boot to CD/DVD and a new dvd is still not reading you may have a hardware issue with your dvd drive.
Does the DVD drive read dvds when you have booted up to windows?
As well I would try putting the image on a USB drive and try that.
I find on occasion when I use the windows software to make an ISO it is hit and miss.  There are other software out there that you can try and some are free or what is known as share ware.
Now even if you burn a good image you started with a Windows 7 system.  The actual image is more than a UEFI and you will not be able to read it if you system is set as a legacy system.
here are some things you will want to check out.

Now if your system came with Windows 7 the product key that you have for your system will not work for Windows 8.1. This is one thing you will want to consider.

  • Unable to boot and install Windows 8.1 from a DVD

Hi, I have an ENVY 17 (3277nr) with windows 8.1 in it but I'm unable to update it since several months ago so I decided to reinstall the OS so I went to the windows site that lets you download an ISO image of windows 8.1 to burn it into a disc (right now I dont have a 4gb usb at hand but is also possible).
I already burned the disc by right clicking the ISO and selecting 'burn disc image' and changed the boot options but every time I turn on my computer all I see is a single underscore and then the regular windows 8 boot screen.
I already visited help wbesites in this regard and I've read things like the windows 8 UEFI thing (not on my laptop since I've upgraded from w7) and the security settings on the BIOS but none of them seem to fix the problem.
    Additional details:
Oddly, when trying to open the burned dvd it only says 4.37gb out of 4.37gb, do you think my dvd drive might be damaged?
PLEASE, HELP ME OUT, BEEN 4 DAYS OF THIS HELL :/

  • Booting and Installing WIN 7 64 Bit Home Premium PL on HP Probook 4520s

    Hi,
I have very seriouse matter in my HP as above mentiobned.
My DVD lecture is probably broken and unable to boot from disc DVD Install Win 7.
At my flat i have got Ethernet LAN with PC Desktop with DVD Lectrure included.
Is there any option in my HP 'BIOS' to set booting via net from DVD Lecture of my Desktop ?
Am I supposed to install an additional software on my HP ?
    Haw can I do that  /If any / ?

    Hi Bob,
    Thank you for your reply.
Yes I have tried the CS5 Cleanup Tool - multiple times.  Doesn't help.
I am surprised to hear that you installed with no problems in light of Tech Support being adament that it won't work on Windows 7 and is not supported.
I told Tech that I didn't accept that as there are probably hundreds of thousands of users with CS3 who have installed or tried to install on a Win7 machine and not everyone has hundreds of dollars spare to upgrade.
I only really use DW, PS and Acrobat in the Suite so I'm going to have to save to buy those products but it won't be anytime soon.
    Thanks.

  • Unable to scan and install windows updates on Win 2008 R2 server

I've encountered some of my win 2008 servers are unable to scan and receive windows updates from SCCM 2012. Browse through the logs and found some error code related to
0x80244023. Excerpt from the WindowsUpdate and WUAHandler is as below. Searched the net and found some workaround which is to rename the registry key
WinHTTPSettings to WinHTTPSettingsx (by adding x at the end of the string)
    under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Internet Settings -> Connections.
I've did just that on the effected servers and after running again the Software Update Scan Cycle action, it is now able to scan and install the updates. My questions is, based on you guys experience, is there any repercussion (apart from enable to install
software updates) that I could encounter in changing the registry key value WinHTTPSettings?

    Hi
If SCCM is setup correctly and your boundaries are correct then once you deploy updates the agents will pick them up.
Also make sure you SUP role has the FQDN set. Lastly if you are using port 8530 make sure it is open.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • [Solved] Unable to boot after install

Forgive me for the lack of code tags, having to write this on my phone.
I am unable to boot after installation. I receive an error wich has the incorrect UDID string. It doesn't even exist. I will update with error after posting so I can give grub config generation error first
    When I run:
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    I get this:
    Found Linux image : /boot/vmlinuz-linux
    Found initd image: /boot/initramfs-linux.img
Warning: failed to connect to lvmetad: no such file or directory. falling back to internal scanning.

Edit: I just deleted the old .cfg and recreated a new one by re running the above command, uncounted and rebooted and it booted into CLI. 3rd time a charm after all. Marking this one solved

Oh, looking at your setup, it would seem that your system is likely still configured to boot to /dev/sdd (the windows drive).
As a user with numerous drives, you should be aware that using /dev/sdXY to identify your disks is a bad idea.  There is no gaurantee that Arch will be /dev/sde every time, nor that windows will be /dev/sdd.  You should use either filesystem labels (LABEL= or /dev/disk/by-label) or UUIDs (UUID= or /dev/disk/by-uuid).  Though if you are using GPT, there is also the option of the PARTLABEL as well (which are the labels you create within the partitioner).

  • Unable to download and install adobe acrobat x1

I bought and installed Adobe Acrobat XI pro from a retail outlet and registered it on my Adobe Account.
I have no changed computers and was trying to re-install the software, however the disc is scratched and so I was trying to download and install from my adobe online account. As I was unable to locate a download link, I downloaded a trial version and installed it and then fed in my serial number - I now get a message that my serial number is not valid!
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Sammy,
Can you please share the last 4 digit of your serial number so that we Can confirm that you are using the correct serial number. And the platform you have installed the product is on Windows only?

  • Unable to download and install Adobe Reader

While trying to download and install Adobe Reader, when I click on OPEN, nothing happens.  When I click on SAVE, I receive the message download failed.  When I retry, a file is downloaded; however, I am unable to open the file.  I am using Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 11.

I am using WIN XP PRO SP 3.0 32 bit on a desktop....
I have tried 3 times to re-install Adobe Reader for Windows, but it keeps on telling me that the installation was unsuccessful...I have tried to find out more, I seem to have met all the requirements, and yes I tried that link, too.....
Any ideas? I know this Q & A was last year,  but maybe you might have found an answer for me, as I uninstalled my current version before I started, now I wish I had left it alone....but I was trying to fix another problem on Firefox, which said I had to re-install anything from Adobe, to see if it would fix my little problem, now I have a bigger problem!!
The 1st problem was I cannot upload pics on Facebook, now I find I cannot upload a pic for Adobe, (on my profile page)!!!! I can still insert/upload a pic on Word, however....
I do hope you might be able to help me, as I am a novice when it comes to fixing problems....
    Many thanks....Peace & Love

  • Since re booting and installing FF there is no file / tools / help at the head of the page.

I recently re booted and when installing Firefox back onto my computer, since then the file - tools - help bar at the top of my homepage is not present.
How do I restore this as I have tried this and upgraded to Firefox 4 and this feature is still missing ?.

I had the same thing happen. right click on the little house (Home) icon, and select Menu Bar. That should restore it.

  • Problems booti and install Tiger on a G4 running 9.2.2 from an external DVD

G4 PCI powermac, just a cd drive built in, running 9.2, sees external iomega dvd drive, reads dvds, cds, but when I try loading tiger from a dvd there are problems.
I puu the tiger disc in, click on install, then get a message that startup disc cannot set this drive as the startup disc (or similar). Restarting and holding the c key doesn't work- I get blinking question mark and have to disconnect the iomega drive, put the 9.2 cd in the internal drive and restart again holding down c key to get anything. Then, running from the cd I can reset the startup disc to the hard drive. Neither can I install tiger running 9.2 from the internal cd, with the tiger DVD in the Iomega drive- it sees it, but requires that the tiger install disc be the startup drive, and we go around again if I try that.
Q- is this possible, ie to load tiger on a PCI 400mhz powermac from an external DVD drive? has anyone done it? how?
    Thank you.
by the way, PCI 400mhz powermac- doesn't need firmware updating, can't be put into target mode, can't boot from a firewire device (and I have tried, just in case)

Joe, thank you very much for your post. The PCI G4 won't boot from an external USB dvd drive. Part of the apple support site says it will, another part says it won't. It won't. And it's well documented that the PCI G4 won't boot from a firewire device, neither can one put it into target mode.
The method Joe suggests does work. I arrived at it independantly, with this method- I ran 9.2 from a CD and partitioned the internal hard drive 10GB dive, ended up with two 5GB partitions. then installed 9.2 on one partition.
    Restarted and I'm running 9.2.
Then copied the Tiger install dvd from an external dvd rom, just a normal drag n drop copy, while running 9.2 (you can't do this under OS X) Then set the startup disc as the partition with the OS X install files on it.
(I copied the Tiger files ontot he partition that wasn't running 9.2)
Pressed restart, a long wait and then it sprang into life and installed OSX on the other partition, but without asking if I wanted a clean install- it just installed it alongside the 9.2 system folder.
I had to specify no extras, it prompted for that, via a message that said free space was tight.
All went well and it's running 10.4.4
Problems that have arisen- 1. won't update the system. Downloads the files via software update, then says it can't use them. The update dmg files from the apple site won't work either.
    2. won't shut down properly- goes to a blue screen, then stays there- I have to unplug it every time.
    Otherwise ok.
prior to working this out out, I visited the local apple store- no cd copies of tiger, exchange program withdrawn. Suggested I call apple. Did so, was directed to technical support. Technical support, very nice guy but knew zero about this.
this is really a bit of fun for me, I have other macs, so no worries, but if anyone has a copy of Tiger on CD, I'd really like to borrow it.
    Thanks everyone
    Mike

  • Unable to download and install apps from iTunes store  !!!

I am in Bosnia and Herzegovina. When I try to install free or purchase apps from apple iTunes store, i click on the desired app and the window pops up where i need to enter and confirm my data, all goes well until the moment when i need to confirm my details.
Also, since there is no Bosnia and Herzegovina in listed countries (which is really unfair by Apple !!!) i have to use Croatia as my country but when i click confirm data and instead of going to next step and finalizing installation, pop up screen goes black and the only working option left to do is click home button.
I dont know if this issue has to do with the ipad2 i am using at the moment or with the fact that i live in Bosnia and Herzegovina, country not listed in the filling form and therefore i cannot use my address and phone and cc data for shoping or even downloading and installing free apps for my iPad2 ?!?
Could anyone please kindly help me clarify this.
P.S. I am really insulted by the fact that there are some god forsaken countries listed but no Bosnia and Herzegovina. - if it turns out that i cannot get apps for my ipad2 only because i live in B and H, i will return the device and become an ex apple fan !!!

  • I have updated firefox to version 6.0. The add-on galley does not recognize it and I am unable to upgrade and install most add-ons.

When tying to install new add-ons, a text appears that there is no support for firefox 3.0.7, assuming I am running that version instead of the recent 6.0. The stating mozilla/google webpage has a text saying that firefox is not up to date. After downloading and installing version 6.0, the text continues to appear in the homepage and add-ons are cannot be installed.

  • Can I boot and install Tiger on a G4 running 9.2.2 from an external DVD

I have a Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics) computer running OS 9.2.2. Firmware version I believe is 3.2.8. I purchased OS X Tiger DVD. I do not have a DVD drive on this Mac. I cannot seem to start up the Power Mac in Target mode via firewire. When I checked Apple website this Mac is not on list as able to be a target volume. Therefore, to avoid ordering CD's from Apple, I was hoping to buy an external DVD drive and use that to install from. Before I buy the new drive, I wanted to be sure this will work. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The PowerMac G4 PCI Graphics can't boot from Firewire.
It also can't run Target Disk Mode.
The AGP Graphics was the first one that could.
That's documented in the articles here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58606
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Make doubly sure it is a PCI graphics by reading this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
The PCI graphics needs no firmware update.
But I would make sure you have at least a 20 GB hard drive and 512 MB of RAM before installing and following the specs for your machine when it comes to the RAM
