Robohelp to PDF

I am trying to export my robohelp file to PDF. However, when I go in to generate the PDF version, some of the links do not look the same way as they do in robohelp or in a HTML version. They all work, but some of them have longer lines underneath the hyperlink.
I have double checked under the HTML version  and in the hyperlink properties that there are no extra spaces in the hyperlinks and they still appear this way in the PDF version. Any ideas how to fix this formatting issue? Thanks.

I am using Robohelp 11. When I go in and create it through the "PDF for Review" it appears in the layout that I want but it has the issue of the hyperlinks being underlined too far.
But when I go in to create a PDF version through printed documentation, the link underlining issue goes away. However, I am having some strange repetition of certain pages...
As you can see, the "Tips for Navigating within Report Center Help Overview" heading is repeated as well as the page itself. This is only occuring for this page and the Entitlement and Access page. The rest are ok... I would use the printed documentation PDF version if I could resolve this issue. Or I would use the PDF for review function if I could resolve the underlining issue for the hyperlinks.
Thanks!

  • Need Robohelp's PDF writer again

I seem to have deleted RoboHelp's PDF writer from my list of
printers. Is there any way to add it back
without reinstalling the entire Creative Suite2?
As a note, Robo generated lots of files for outputting a PDF
in the SSL and then just vanished without even a puff of smoke. I
assume it died when it couldn't connect to its PDF printer? At any
rate, I don't see anything in my list of printers that looks like
it ought to be a pdf printer for Robohelp.

That's very strange, because we've been using iText in our spreadsheet reporting application for years now and it never failed.

  • Security Settings in Robohelp 9 PDF files

I think this is a Robohelp problem because it only happens when I launch a PDF from  a Robohelp-generated site. It does NOT happen in Adobe Acrobat. It may be a conflict with Windows 7 - we just loaded it yesterday - because before that everything worked.
We created a PDF file with interactive fields, and NO security settings. The file has signature fields that populate with your digital ID when you click the red tag. It works just fine in Acrobat - you can type data into the fields, and the digital ID dialog launches when you click the red tag. If you click OK, the field displays your digital signature.
However, when I launch the file from online help I created with Robohelp 9, I get an error message stating that the security settings on the document don't allow adding text or placing a signature on it. I double checked, and there is NO security. See the attached images. Is this a bug? Should I report it?
    Thanks

    Hi there
I'm wondering if the following is happening to you.
When in Acrobat, you are viewing the document differently and able to make edits. When you are opening the PDF from RoboHelp (or more accurately, the browser) you are presenting it from the PDF reader and not Acrobat. Thus you have different capabiities.

  • RoboHELP to PDF Page numbering issue

    HI,
I am experiencing a problem related to page numbers in the pdf generated through the RoboHELP source files. Hereby I am giving some images of the initial pages of the PDF, in which I have clearly explained the issue. I have removed the content and images related to our project. Please let me know, how I can overcome this issue.
NOTE: The page numbering issue was not there earlier.  I have imported two frame maker files. Then I was not able to generate a PDF. That particular FM file had a table. Read in the Adobe forum that some type of tables may affect the generation of PDF. Hence, I have deleted the FM files. Since then I am facing the page numbering issue.
Here are the images with my explanation of the issue:
The following is an image of the pdf. This is actually the fourth page of the pdf, but it is numbered as xiv.
The next pae is numbered as xv. Again the numbering reverted back to xiv as shown in the following iamge.
Immeditely after the TOC, the 1st page is numbered as 115.
Again every 1st page of a chapter is starting as page number 115
The 2nd page of every chapter is numbered as 126.
The 3rd page of every chapter is numbered as 125.
The fourth page again numbered as 126 followed by 125, which is continuing till end of the chapter.
Please let me know how this issue can be solved.

I am not sure what is causing this but can suggest a workaround. Instead of publishing direct to PDF, create a Word document only. That may have page numbering issues but there you should be able to correct them. Then publish your PDF from Word.

  • Accurate RoboHelp to PDF conversion?

I've been attempting to generate PDFs that accurately reflect my RoboHelp projects. The output always comes out a bit funky (blank pages, orphaned headings and text, etc.). Also, the PDFs generate with headers which I don't want and the TOC as the front page. I have a cover page that I'd like to have before the TOC.
There are a lot of questions in one questions, but any suggestions? I'd rather not generate a Word doc and then generate the PDF as a workaround.

    Welcome to our community
Yes, I have wildly deluded fantasies myself. Sadly, they seldom (if ever) come true.
The best option is to generate the Word document, tweak it, then create the PDF.

  • Conditional Build Tags in RoboHelp 9 PDF Review output?

It doesn't look like it's possible to exclude conditional text from the output for the new PDF review feature in RoboHelp 9. (From Review > Create PDF for Review.) Is this accurate?

    I'm sorry but I don't.
I suggest you submit a feature request that these requirements are added.

  • RoboHelp 6 PDF

We're using RoboHelp 6 to create online help, but we'd also
like to generate PDF documentation for customers. I'm having some
trouble editing the PDFs once they've been created (page breaks,
    mostly).
I know how to add tags, and to set chapters, etc., but there
are instances where an image may be placed apart from the steps
related to the image, and I'd like to control that sort of thing.
The only solution I've found thus far is to create DOCs, edit
in Word and then spool a PDF. Is there a better way?

    Welcome to the forum.
I think the solution you have found is the best way to go if
you need to clean up your documents. My experience is that most
outputs need some cleaning up. I never generate straight to PDF.

  • FM file with PDFincludes not converted in Robohelp

    Win7, 64bit, FM 9.0.2, RH 8.0.2.208
I have some thousand pages of FrameMaker files that include lots of PDF graphics (in ancored frames, by reference).
When importing and converting the whole thing into Robohelp, the PDF graphics do NOT seem to get properly converted from PDF to JPG; all I get is a jpg of the correct size, but all white and no information in it.
The docs say that any content of an anchored frame gets converted into the desired web graphics format like jpp - and of course my PDF imports are referenced into anchored frames.
The files need to remain PDFs in the FrameMaker application for printing purposes, and they are too may to introduce conditional formats for web or print.
What's wrong? Is there any Robohelp tweak I am not aware of, or does Robohelp stumble on converting PDFs into JPGs? (WebWorks does this.)
    Greetings

    Hi Scott,
    Thanks for your reply.
    we are using XSL Transformation.
I have go thru FDK 8 new feature PDF, tried out some option and getting same error.
If possible pl. provide some sample code or update which section in FDK8 feature PDF that i need to go thru ?

  • Robohelp 9, framemaker 10 conversion not in sequence of chapter but in alphabetic order of .fm files

    Hi All,
We are trying to do the following :
      - Create a Frame maker Book with a couple of chapters & TOC
      - Import the Book into RoboHelp
      - Save the document in RoboHelp to PDF, WebHTML & EPUB
      - The output files are created but we do not see the content as expected.
      Platform/Tools - Windows XP , Framemaker 10 , Robhelp 9
      Issues :
PDF - The Chapters are ordered in the alphabetical sequence rather than the Chapter/Page sequence set by using the Numbering option for Chapter/Page - "Continue numbering from previous page in book".
WebHTML - The TOC does on the left frame/pane does not show the list of chapters
      - The Chapters are ordered as per the alphabetical numbering ( Chapters begining with Numbers then alphabets etc.) rather than the order seen in Framemaker
EPUB - The TOC shows the numbers which are again ordered in alphabetical order but not reflecting the actual order of the chapters seen in framemaker.
      - The Chapters are ordered as per the alphabetical numbering ( Chapters begining with Numbers then alphabets etc.) rather than the order seen in Framemaker
Could the folks are experienced with document publishing using Framemaker guide appropriately.
      Thanks in Advance

Ok, wrong forum - you should be in the FrameMaker Integration thread in the RH forum, but no matter.
Trying to create PDF output out of RH will drive you crazy since you have to go through Word to get to PDF. Much better to go to PDF straight from your FM source book. This is one of FM's strengths - it's not one of RH's.
Since all your issues seem to stem from your ToC, I would recommend messing around with it in FM to get it looking correct. Then import the content & ToC into RH. The "Edit FM documents" button in the Conversion Settings dialog allows you to bring over your FM ToC into RH; they also control how content will appear and how topics are to be created (pagination).
If, after importing, your ToC in RH isn't what you want it to look like, just edit it within RH - since you're importing FM content (not linking) each time you import it's a fresh start (and new project). You can easily move stuff around in a RH ToC.

  • Adobe: Please Give Us An RoboHelp - AIR Help Forum

    Hi all,
A client of mine is very interested in the AIR Help format
after I showed them a test project. As with any new format, there
are risks and bugs, and I want to know about as many of them as
possible before I begin a large project with tight deadlines where
I do not have a lot of time to troubleshoot, tweak, and test. I'm
feeling a little frustrated trying to get all of the info I need
and wondering "Is Adobe really behind this new format or not?"
(Yes, I have the RoboHelp Packager PDF.) Those who are kind enough
to jump in and investigate this new format are posting sometimes in
General, sometimes in HTMLHelp, sometimes in the AIR developers
forum, etc. (I see a link on grainge.org to a RoboHelp Packager
forum that isn't working...perhaps a Beta forum that's now closed?)
On that note, THANK YOU, Peter Grainge, for taking the time to
provide very helpful information about AIR Help on your site...
Most of you reading probably will not recognize my name simply
because over the years, I have found almost all of the answers I
needed by searching prior posts and putting Peter's solutions to
work in my own projects. Now I hope to be able to give back to this
community if I delve into AIR Help, but we all need one place to
    post :-)!

  • Export the Index

I was able to export the index to a PDF. What I really need
to do is export the index (and, ideally, definitions) to Excel...I
tried Robohelp to PDF to Word to Excel but that is very messy and
it's just the keywords. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Well you could copy the project's .HHK file, open it in
Notepad and strip out all the unwanted <param name=> and
<li><object type=> tags using a find and replace tool
but this could also be a little messy.

  • Image Maps link not working in Acrobat 8 3D PDFs generated from RoboHelp 7

All of my hyperlinks work when I just generated my RoboHelp
project to PDF using RoboHelp 7 with the new Adobe Technical
Communications Suite (with Acrobat 8 3D). However, the links to
topics within the document didn't maintain from the image maps. I
had originally created flowcharts in Microsoft Visio, exported then
as .gifs, and imported them into topics in RoboHelp X5. Then I
created image maps from the boxes to topics in the RoboHelp
project. When I converted my project to RoboHelp 7 and generated
the PDF, all the links work great, except I don't get the
finger-pointing cursor when I hover over the boxes in the
flowcharts like I do with regular hyperlinks. Can someone please
    tell me why? Thanks!

Sigh... and this is why no one like to work with newbies...
Thank you for your help. I am embarrased to admit that this was the issue.

  • PDF causes Robohelp 9 to crash

Can you think of what elements might cause a PDF file to crash Robohelp every time I try to compile the help and publish?
I downloaded an Excel calendar template from microsoft.com. The formulas update the dates in the month areas when you select the year from a dropdown menu. Nothing too fancy, but kind of cool.
I rearranged the months around a little bit, used a custom font, and inserted the company logo.jpg. I set the print area to only print the calendar, NOT the dropdown, then saved it as a PDF. I uploaded it as a baggage file, and attached it to a topic. All is very normal. Then I compile and get an message telling me that Robohelp 9 encountered an error. When I click for more information, I get this - it goes on for days. I just copied the first page.
So I closed down other software, made sure no PDF files displayed in the live version on the server I was publishing to, removed the custom font, deleted the image, and tried some other diddling, but nothing worked. When I remove that file, the project compiles just fine.
Does anyone have any other thoughts? The next thing I'm going to do is try a different template, but I'm wondering if, after all my customization, I can still use this one somehow.
    Thanks!

Update: I tried to save other Excel templates into PDFs directly from the Microsoft site without making any changes at all, then added them as baggage files and found that NONE of them compile if they're in a Robohelp project. I don't know if it's a Microsoft issue or a Robohelp issue, but it's out there.
So, I did a screen shot of the calendar and created a .jpg, popped it into Word and saved it as a PDF that way. One does what one has to...

  • Cannot generate pdf in RoboHelp after upgrading to Acrobat 7.0 Pro

I just upgraded from Acrobat 7.0 to Acrobat 7.0 professional.  RoboHelp will no longer generate pdfs.  Get error "Cannot locate printer driver.  Reinstall Acrobat 7.0"
Am using RoboHelp for HTML version 6.

I don't have a compatibility chart for the versions of Acrobat and RoboHelp, not sure if that could be an issue. I assume Acrobat is working otherwise - for example, if you PDF from Word
It was the case that RH had to be installed before Word. I don't think that extended to Acrobat but it could be worth trying an uninstall and reinstall.
Also try setting Acrobat's compatibility settings to something low such as Acrobat 5.
Ultimately you may have to settle for generating to Word and creating the PDF from there.

  • How to edit existing pdf's from RoboHelp 8

    Hi,
Our company had been using an old version of RH5 for many years, and we've recently upgraded to RH8 to manage our company Infocenter (knowledge repository). We have many pdf files within this repository.
Before upgrading to RH8, we would edit pdf files using Adobe Writer very easily. However, after upgrading to RH8 and installing it on a brand new computer, our attempts to install Adobe Writer failed with a message saying there is a more functional product already installed on the workstation. No other Adobe products apart from RH8 are currently installed.
I think this means that RH8 can edit pdf files with no additional software, can anyone confirm? And if so, how do we go about doing it? (For now I only need to know how to edit pdf's, not create them.)
Thanks, and my apologies in advance if this was covered in another thread, but I couldn't find any information.
    T.

I suspect that Acrobat Writer is seeing the PDF writer that you installed with RoboHelp as being the later version.
I don't use that as I have the full version of Acrobat so I cannot check but I don't believe you can use the lighter version that comes with RoboHelp to edit PDFs.
Thus you can write PDFs with what you have but I suspect you cannot directly edit. You would need Acrobat Pro for that and buying the Technical Communication Suite would have been a better option.
Do you have the source files that created those PDFs? If so you can edit those and use the PDF writer that shipped with RH8 to create new PDFs.
