Routed access design to support up to 2500 multicast groups

Hi all,
I'm doing routed access design with following:
- Routing protocol is OSPF.
- 3 layers with: Core/Distribution/Access design.
- Core: Catalyst 6500E Sup 2T.
- Distribution: ME 3800X / Catalyst 4500X.
- Access: ME 3400E.
We enable PIM from Core to Access layer.
At the moment, there are around 1000 multicast group in the network.
Cisco hardware limitation of multicast:
- Cisco ME 3400E can only support up to 1000 IGMP groups and multicast routes.
- Cisco ME 3800X can only support up to 2000 IGMP group and multicast routes with Metro IP Services license.
- Cisco Catalyst 4500X support up to 32K multicast routes.
- Cisco Catalyst 6500E Sup 2T support up to 128K multicast routes.
Requirement:
Design the network to support up to 2500 multicast groups.
So, are there any fine-tune in the design to meet above requirement?
Or I have to change access layer switch to higher model? (ex: 4500E)

replacing the hardware is one option
but the question here why are you going with routed access layer and in your case you have large Mcast routing table that going to be everywhere !!
have you considered using Cat65k or 45K in the distribution in VSS and use L2 from access to distribution
in this case you need to concern about the distribution routing table size and also VSS simplify the topology and managerially of the network rather than have it with a complicated routing design
routed access is a good and recommend as well for quicker convergence time and no reliance on STP or HSRP/VRRP timers
however it could comlicate the routing design !
while VSS will also eliminate the reliance on HSRP/VRRP and STP with more added simplicity to the topology and design
so you may go with 45K VSS in the distribution and 65K with VSS in the core as well and in the access using L2 uplinks to the distribution and the uplinks everywhere can use multi-chassis etherchannel MEC, for increased network capacity in terms of bandwidth and quicker convergence time in the case of a link failure as well, Plus you will be able to support the desired Mcast routing table in the distribution and Core !!

802.1x Guest Vlan and Routed access layer design

Hi!
For many reasons, I have to re-design my campus network in a more ISP like way. The plan is to move to a routed access layer in the next two years. I have 802.1x with guest vlan on my access ports(3750). I was reading on the subject and I found that the guest vlan feature was not availeble with internal vlan(routed port).
Is this limitation realy there, is there a way I can get around it without complicating my design even more. Do cisco have plan to lift this???

You cannot use/configure 802.1X on a routed port today. Typically, 802.1X is to be used for LAN edge ports.
The Guest-VLAN should work with a routed access design though. If your Guest-VLAN is chosen to be separate from say otherwise statically configured access VLANs, you would need to configure it via separate SVI with corresponding IP info (in a routed access model).

Routed access OSPF design

Hi All,
I need some advise on the following design.
I am designing a campus network using routed access with OSPF. I will have 3 tiers - core, distribution and access. I am looking to configure the core/distribution links in OSPF area 0 and then the distribution/access links in a non-backbone area such as 1. I will then be able to filter/summarize etc as the ABR boundary.
I only have 2 links from my core to distribution layer and I'm planning to terminate them on separate distribution switches (dist1 and dist2), see attached diagram.
The links facing the DC will be in area0 and the links facing the access will be area1 but what area should the distribution to distribution link be in? I understand that if it is in the non-backbone area1 then I will loose the ability to use the link to the second core as intra area routes will be preferred by dist1. Are there any other considerations here? Should I connect two links between the the 4500s and configure 1 link in area 0 and 1 link in area1?

About how many L3 routing devices, and how many subnets, do you anticipate? Depending on that, you might one to consider a single area design.

Design Patterns Support in Jdev 10.1.3?

Is Design Patterns Support included as part of JDev 10.1.3. I have seen this support in SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio where you have the option of converting existing classes to implement a certain J2EE/J2SE Design Pattern or create a new class(es) to implement a Design Pattern. I believe TogetherSoft has this support.
Any chances this request is consider in the next major release of JDev 10.1.3?

My company just begins the migration from Oracle Form-based application to pure Java EE one. We will be using JDeveloper v10.1.3, persuaded by it fast GUI building, data-binding features. Before that, we have been trying out Eclipse & JBoss.
We are going to use Swing & JSF for client, and JavaEE 5 for midtier. Persistence layer, will be JPA (EJB3 entity bean persistence) and Spring Framework DAO support. Spring DAO is interesting bcos it gives a consistent style of API (we want to support both JDBC & JPA) and consistent Exception hierarchy too. So our midtier will be partitioned (roughly according to Fowler's patterns) into 3 layers: Service, Domain/Biz Object, Data Access. Thus far is pretty standard.
We are still pretty new to this ADF, and are still exploring.
Now, my initial impression with ADF is that it seems to interfere too much with the kind of pattern we had in mind. The fact that ADF hides too much details from us programmers scares me -- it becomes restrictive and we are helpless as to what are going on inside (with those xml, dcx, etc). For e.g. talk about Service Locator pattern, and we cannot seem to figure out how/where it is implemented. Using ADF Data Control and Biz Components will make all the design patterns "disappear" -- we dont see DAO classes anymore bcos it has been automated. It looks more like 2-tier client-server pattern to me. :-)
We are interested to use ADF data-binding features, so
1) Is it still advisable to use Spring DAO layer?
2) Is it possible to just use ADF in the Client / web tier, while the EJB container remains free of ADF technologies?

Does access manager only support uid as rdn?

I am deploying 2005q4 access manager and my directory does not use uid as the rdn for user entries. Does access manager only support uid as the rdn in user entries? I am trying to test JES with mail and calendar etc and trying to figure out how to use my data design.

no, it can support any attribute for the naming attribute. For LDAP authentication there are usually two directories involved: the LDAP server where authentication occurs and the LDAP server where user profiles are stored.
If you only need to authenticate against an LDAP server where the RDN is not uid (for AD is samaccountname), you simply need to change the naming attribute in the LDAP authentication module
if you the LDAP server where user profiles is stored does not use UID, you may have a little more work on your hands. If you are using AM 7 in realm mode you simply need to create a new LDAPv3 user store configured for your needs. If you are using AM 7 in legacy mode or < AM 7 you will need to modify the DAI service and quite possibly the amUser and amConsole services.

How to access design view in DW CC?

I am new to DW and am working in fluid grid. tutorial references design view (maybe with a toggle switch) - cannot find how to access 'design view'. any help would be appreciated.

If you use CC 2014.1 (October release) or 2014.1.1 (February release) you can't get to Design View b/c it was removed from FGLayouts.

Why can't I access my mozilla support account

I had trouble the other day accessing my mozilla support account. I was able to sign in which at the top of the page brought up my username and listed the available options (for example, inbox, profile, settings, etc.) but the page otherwise included the following message: "An Error Occurred
Oh, no! It looks like an unexpected error occurred. We've already notified the site administrators. Please try again now, or in a few minutes." I was caught in this endless loop of signing in, getting the same error message, and unable to access my account or post a new question. This happened whether I used IE or Firefox and after clearing cookies, etc. and resetting browser.
I was able to create a new account with a new username and new email but after posting my question the same phenomena occured which prohibited me from further accessing that new account.
Accordingly, I have now set up this third account in order to see if the problem can be resolved. The username for those first two accounts at issue is inquiringmind and FirefoxQuery79. After posting this question I don't know if I will be able to get back into this account to answer any followup questions so I hope I have provided enough info.
Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

SQL Server Installation failing saying 'Could not write values to registry key \SOFTWARE. Verify you have sufficient access or contact support personnel'

Hi,
I am trying to install SQL server 2012/SQL Server 2014 and I constantly keep getting this error and the Management Tools fails to install.

Tried installing even SQL Server 2008 and still get the same error.

From above it seems client tools component is missing from Installation or may be problem with Windows installer but I guess this is not issue with windows installer . Can you re download SQL Server package and run again.

Hold down the 'Option' key on the keyboard
'Library' should appear in the menu between 'Home' and 'Computer'
There you will find the 'Application Support' folder.
For System
Click 'Go'
Click 'Computer'
Open 'Macintosh HD'
Open 'Library'
The Application Support folder should be there.

Cisco Router 1841 is it support CME ?

I have cisco router 1841 is it support CME? I tried to put this command    myrouter(config)# telephony-services       but is not recognized ?

1841 supports VWIC card perfectly. it works great in WAN data.

Can't access Apple's support page in FFox; getting a looped pop-up dialogue box.

Hi,
When I try to access Apple's support page, there's a 'Welcome back - do you have the same problem as last time?' dialogue box that I can't get past. No matter what I press (Yes or No), the page refreshes and the box comes back.
I have deleted my cache, and gone through every step I can with Apple support over the phone, but the issue still occurs.
What's the problem?

Can't print through wireless hookup. Printer says there is a router/access point channel conflict.

I cannot print. Printer is wirelessly connected to the airport extreme router.
My printer says that the network connection passes all tests but there is a note: "A router/access point channgel conflict has been detected.
The Epson Printer utilitie says only "Communication error". I've tried changing channels to no avail.

I finally figured out how to fix this after a few weeks of being with out my printers. I tried the reboot of everything and it didn't work. I went into the airport utility and start poking around. I tab through all the various setting and everything looked good. By virtue of tabbing the "update" button was active. I hit that and the airport extreme router rebooted and bingo the printer works for all my PCs and MACs. This seem to have started with the last epson update but who knows. Good luck

Adding computers to the router/access point

Hello,
I live in a town which has wireless internet. I have subscribed to their service and have put in a "bridge" to access the local wireless tower. I have also installed a Linksys WRT54GS Router to link the bridge to my computer (running Windows XP). All for this computer is working fine. Here is my problem.
I have a second desktop computer (running Windows 2000) and a laptop (running Windows Vista). I wish configure these two computers to see the router and be able to access the internet.
In the desktop I have installed a wireless card. I thought I had configured the network card to see the router in order to access the internet. The second desktop will see the router but will not connect to the router to access the internet.
The laptop has a wireless card built in and can also see the router, but will not connect to it.
I have been told that I may need to add the MAC addresses of the desktop and laptop to the router configuration in order for them to have access to the router. Not sure how to do this. Looking for any assistance on this or something else that I have missed in the set-up.

If something does not work there is usually an error message. Please always post the exact text of any error message. There are many reasons why a device does not connect but the error message should give insight to the exact reason...
What you have been told is the wireless mac address filter which limits which clients can connect. It is not enabled by default thus you should actually know that you have enabled it before.
Anyway, first make sure that any computer you want to connect wireless can have a working connection while wired to the router.
Also verify, that the bridge connects to the WAN/Internet port of the router and the Internet LED on the router is light up.
Then check the configuration of the router. Again connect a computer with a ethernet cable to your router. Connect to http://192.168.1.1/ the user name remains empty, the default password is "admin" but I hope very much that you have changed it during the initial setup of the router.
Now click the Wireless tab. Note the current settings. Next go the the Wireless Security tab. Again write down the settings. The Wireless MAC Filter is the next tab. Check that it is disabled. If it is enabled, disable it for the moment. Save Settings.
O.K. You have seen the MAC filter. If it was enabled, turn it off and try again.
The network mode should be Mixed mode unless you are sure that all your wireless cards are compatible with the selected mode. A 11b card won't connect to a router in 11g-only mode.
Make sure that your SSID is unique. It should never be the default "linksys" nor possibly the SSID of your wireless ISP.
Depending on where you live there may be restrictions on which channels you can use. Channels 1-11 should work with all equipment.
Enable SSID broadcast.
Also make sure that your computers and network cards support the selected wireless security. For the security of your LAN you must use WPA or WPA2 whenever possible. (WEP can be cracked within a few minutes). If the problem seems to be with the wireless security, disable it for a moment and try to connect. Once you have successfully connected through a non-secured wireless connection setup the security again. Remember, as long as there is no wireless security setup bascially anyone can connect to your network and your computers and can use the internet connection.
