  • Connecting printer to new fibre optic router

Hi. We have recently upgraded to fibre optic broadband and have a new router. Our HP 3055A printer will not now work. We have followed just about every procedure in the manual and on line, still getting nowhere. We cannot find a 'set up wizard' on the printer, getting nowhere fast!! Need clear and simple instructions, preferably from a user of the same printer who knows the menu headings. Thank you.

Keep pressing the same key over and over....

  • Connected to router but no internet (fibre optics)

Hi, so I have recently switched to fibre optics and I have decided to reuse my Linksys E4200 that was previously used with a cable network. However, After installing the router using the disk provided I was unable to connect to the internet even though my computer was able to connect with the router. What can I do to solve this prob. I have tried restarting the modem to the factory settings and the same problem recurs.
P.S. The modem was installed to another router provided by my service provider.

When you said that 'even though my computer was able to connect with the router' did you mean your computer is able to connect to the wireless network of the router? Since you switched to fibre optics, the router might need to be reconfigured for it to work with your fibre optics connection. Do a hard reset on the router first - push and hold the reset button on the router for 30seconds then power it off for 10-15 seconds. You can then reconfigure the router by either using the setup cd or doing it manually. If the setup cd won't work, you can go ahead and proceed with reconfiguring it manually. You may follow the steps provided on this link: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=0ff4c94586a345d082828ec2161aaecf_3686.xml&pid=80&r.... With fibre optics connection, you may treat it as a cable connection.

  • Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 update required but it will not connect to the new fibre optic broadband , help , thanks

Problem = Mac OS X MacBook with Version 10.4.11 used to connect to the Internet now it does not
Recent Broadband upgrade to fibre optic by Eircom
Rang Ericom they cannot sort it out and suggested I contact Apple for an update
Update is not possible without internet connection
    What do I do ???
    Thanks

You sure your mac ethernet port works.
Give them a call.  Verify that they only support windows for coniguration of router.  Ask them about future support. If  they have heard of the ipad.  Ask if they plan on supporting a web browser interface. Ask about their sanity. My $5 router supports a web browser interface.
You could get a cheap wifi router with ethernet ports and with a web browser interface.  Connect you mac to you el cheap router.  Connect your el cheapo router to the eircom router.  Note: Apple routers have a propriety interface too and unless you have a new Mac best to avoid.
Could they switch you to a router that supports a web browser interface?
Get a friend with a windows laptop and ask to come over to get things working.
Internet support is standardized.  You mac should be able to access the internet through the router.
What is not standardized is how you configure your router.
Unbelievably, eircom_799  referenced by Neville Hillyer only supports windows for configuration.

  • Mac OS X- 10.6.8 -fibre optics / TC problem

Not computer savvy enough for this one.  Just switch from an ethernet connection for internet to wireless (fibre optics).  Now internet does not function when time capsule is plugged & working wirelessly as in the past.
Solution to date has been to disconnect Time Capsule to have Internet work.   How do we get both to work simutaneously?
Have direct wired Time Capsule to computer but internet still does not function.
    Advanced thanks for any help.

I am not at all sure how your internet works.. fibre is normally delivered over ethernet.
Anyway I am going to need some more explaination of how the TC is connected.
And what mode you have it running in. Do you get internet direct to the computer by wifi from some other router then?? And the TC is not connected at all?
You should still plug the TC into the fibre router by ethernet if that is possible. If not you can setup dual connection.. internet via wifi and TC via ethernet direct to the computer but that means only that one computer has access to it.
See the information in this thread.. I gave a whole series of screenshots on how to do the setup.

  • Cannot connect to PPPoE?  fibre optic Internet in Japan

    Hi I live in Japan
All the manuals and helplines are in tricky Japanese and I can't find out why I can't connect to the Internet! Help!
I get a message saying "cannot connect to the PPPoE server". It was working fine for a few months but now suddenly I can't connect to Internet . Strange thing is the "hikari Tv" tuner (fibre optic) set top box is working fine and all the channels come via the Internet connected with a cable to the same router box. This makes me suspect it is a problem with the MacBook.
I would appreciate any help although I guess it is an unusual circumstance.

Thanks for your responses people. I have since figured out how to get to the Linksys web admin site, and I also have the wireless connection to my MB up and running.
The remaining problem is that my flatmates lovely old Windows XP laptop (wired only) cannot now connect. I am pretty sure it is not an issue with the router, but her Windows machine is all in German, and my German is ok, but dealing with techie stuff is another matter.
    Any ideas?

  • Gmail faults after change to fibre optic modem

    Hello there,
Hope someone can help me out with this. Since modem change from ADSL to Fibre Optic i get constant error for my gmail account that says "Too many simultaneous connections. (Failure)". I understand that this is because i probably have too many devices logged into the google account, but the weird thing is i did not have this problem before.
My modem is a Alcatel-Lucent I-240W-A connected to the 2TB Time Capsule. I tried various mail clients, as OSX Mail became unusable. I now use Postbox which did its best in the beginning but after a month it started to drop again and again. Besides reporting "too many simultanious connections" it sometimes says my password is not correct and it cant login. My phone will do the same once in a while ("Wrong password for Gmail, cannot login") and give me options to change settings or retry. Both being on the same Wifi network (TC 5Ghz).
I have access to the actual modem, for if someone has a way to perk settings.
    Many thanks.

The always helpful Mr. Pastenague, thank you.
    Ok, here goes.
Gmail on any browser works perfect. No drops, no "yellow alert bars", ..nothing. All client connections are IMAP, indeed, and no special settings other than general port settings (465), SSL is on, password is active and where it says User Name the macbook settings have the actual username where phone keeps it blank ("optional"). Funny thing is, the iOS mail client has almost no issues. Maybe once a day it cant login to gmail where the osx has trouble over 50 times a day.
The ISP modem configuration does not have any IPv6 setting available. Copying what i do see:
1: The spy friendly TR69 protocol:
    2. Internet is through PPPoE:
    Internal:
    The issue:
    3. The TC is in bridge mode - but i did find:
    Network options:
TCP/IP per client (this being the macbook) is link-local:
    4. On ISP pop account, will check if they have that available. Did not came with the actual intro though.
Many thanks for your efforts, standing by for if you need any additional info.

  • Crazy ping! Is it because Fibre Optic is being ins...

Hi once again i find myself on the forums complaining about my latency! I've been getting really bad ping for ages now going an around a month and its really stopping me from being able to use the internet if im honest.
My question is not how to stop it because im pretty sure the problem is with the BT network itself because the area i live in has not long anounced that Fibre Optic is being installed and should be ready for the spring. I'm assuming that while this is happening they have to route traffic through some other loction which can slow down the internet for everyone in the area. Can someone confirm this for me through this trace route to the bbc.co.uk website.

I think the quick answer is no.  The FTTC rollout will not change the routing on your ADSL connection.  BT's network is being particulary **bleep** in the core at the moment.  I assume it's everyone doing speedtests every 5 minutes to check they are getting the speeds they want.
Although the latency seems to come in before you hit the core network.  A point to note is that ICMP is a low prioirty protocol and will get dropped / ignored if the router / device is busy.
Might be worth checking over in the ADSL forums see if anyone else having similar problems.
Just for info I did a trace route from work, (some information has been removed).

  • Fibre Optic speed VERY slow.

Hey, I got Fibre optic a few days back and got speeds of 37.5mbps straight away. However, since about 9am this morning, the internet has been soooo slow. It's been between 0.75mbps-3mbps all day.
Sometimes pages don't even load at all! I know that sky will be slowing speeds to test my connection, but surely not all day?

I have been a sky customer for the last 8-9 years, spent a lot of my hard earned money on the service and in the last 18 months I can honestly say that it is SHOCKING. Prices have shot up above inflation, the service has dropped and the quality of Sky as a whole is poor. The stuff on the TV is bad and to get access to the "good" stuff (premium channels) cost's a fortune. But i'll get to my point - I upgraded to sky Fibre after debating to switch to BT Infinity2 - I called Sky and like always they managed to throw a load of discounts at me, hoping I would stay with them. Like a dim-wit I am, I stayed with Sky and upgraded to Fibre Unlimited. I was satisfied I would get my money's worth as the broadband unlimited was very good and stable. Paid for 8Mbps and got 8Mbps. Had fibre since April 2013 and the fastest I have had now is about 24Mbps (and this was about 1am when people are sleeping). On a normal day, I get around 10-12Mbps. I called Sky AFTER the 10 day period and they fed me a load of bull crap. They told me this was a known fault and they were in the middle of deploying this fix to resolve slow connections and it would take around 7 days to roll out. After 7 days, no change at all. Not even a little bit They sent me a new router and it didn't even work, Its now sat in some landfill in Yorkshire. I have complained to sky about 5 times now about this since April, I've done every diagnostic they fed me and it hasn't worked. The whole thing is a con. My day job is an IT Technician and I deal with this farce every day, and the problem 9/10 always lies at Sky's end. SKY ARE PAYING FOR AN INFRASTRUCTURE WITH TOO MANY CUSTOMERS TRYING TO USE IT AT THE SAME TIME. IT’S MAXED OUT AND CAN'T HANDLE DEMAND. I have given up with Sky now, they have 14 days to actually resolve the issue, or I’m cancelling my Direct Debit and switching to BT.

  • Is Fibre Optics Finally Getting To ME

I've been in two years of misseary by BT selling me BT Infinaty and i got 17 down and 0.9 upload and since then i've been in the phone every month trying to find out when i will be able to get my BT Infinaty and the only answer i got was i can't get fibre optics because im on an exchange only line and the other week i saugh a few workmen digging a hole outside the exchange and when i looked today these now a green cabnet placed there it looks like its not wired up yet but does this mean when it is i can get my BT Infinaty ?

    Hi JBoy,
If your on a EO line and live close to the FRINTON ON SEA exchange which is loacted  on OLD PARSONAGE WAY, FRINTON, CO13 9AN then it looks like Openreach are installing a PCP (Cabinet) (designated PCP17) outside the exchange. EO lines of properties who are very close to the exchange then may be re-arranged to be connected to this cab (PCP17).
It also looks like their is a DSLAM cabinet (which is for FTTC Fibre to the Cabinet) planned to be installed and linked to PCP17 which will allow those properties who are connected to pcp17 and are within ~ 1.5/2KM of the cab to get FTTC fibre broadband such as BT Infinity FTTC.
You can check http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl every now and again to see if your line gets re-routed to go through PCP17 and also to see when FTTC is available to you.
Also According to Superfast Essex BDUK fibre broadband programme which is in partnership between Essex county council, BDUK (part of DCMS) and Openreach (BTplc) states this for this area (CO13 9AN) which is where the PCP17 & it's DSLAM cab will be installed:
"This area is due to be fibre enabled under the Superfast Essex programme. Under current plans, rollout works commence in this area in 2015. Please note this is subject to change following detail survey and planning."
    Have a look at http://www.superfastessex.org/en-gb/where,whenandhow.aspx
    Roadworks in area:
    1) PCP17 FRINTON ON SEA - Est job scedual 14th Oct till 20 Oct 14
Location : O/S FRINTON TELEPHONE EXCHANGE ON OLD PARSONAGE WAY, FRINTON, CO13 9AN
Description : FRINTON-ON-SEA PCP 17 - 279213 - STREET CABINET INSTALLATION. Excavate to lay approx 6m duct, BUILD NEW JRF 106 CHAMBER, lay concrete plinth (3 days to set) and stand cabinet, check & clear site.

Is there another website I could try?
Also how do I contact the MODS, regardless to the website not allowing me to test, at certain times (evening) there is definately throttling occuring or some setting on my line is causing this issue ,Iam sorry but tried to phone the TECH team but apart from power down modem or router there has been no effort made to try and resolve the problem.
I need some one at BT with expert experiance and Know how to look into this thoroughly.
I phoned customer options team yesterday and requested my MAC as I have less thn 1 month contract remaining, however  I  do not want to leave BT its a repitable company that has been trading for many years and its time that they showed that to me. do they care if I LEAVE?

  • Fibre Optic availability

    Heya all,
I live in Boardwalk Place (Poplar exchange) and 4 out of 5 buildings in the block had fibre optic for like a year already, while my building (1 out of 5) still has no fiber optic. It doesnt make sense as all buildings are surrounded by water andthere is no chance on other cabinet or else.
The question is who and how i can contact to try and start an investigation into the issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Dmitry

Poplar does seem to have a bit of a mad setup with cabling routes but if you want us to double check whether your line is EO or not feel free to fill out our contact form (the link to which you can find in my profile under "about me").
These two links might also be useful - I'll add them into my sticky at the top of the Infinity forum later on for a permanent reference:
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/resident/ (you can fill this out yourself)
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/landlord/ (you need to give this to the owner of your property/building)

  • Fibre optic installation question

    Hi
I am interested in fibre optic broadband but there may be problems in physically routing a cable into my house, is it possible to have an engineer call to assess the situation before commencing an order for installation?
    Thanks for any replies.

Do you have an existing "copper" phone line that enters the property?
As from the estimate you have posted, you can get FTTC fibre broadband which utilises the existing "copper" line from your property to your street cabinet.
If a survey/extra plant equipment or a "copper" line needs to be installed to the property before hand then a site survey may be needed and you should be notified when you order.
