RowFilter.NumberFilter: can't handle "mixed" concrete Number types

cross-post from
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7993546/rowfilter-numberfilter-cant-handle-mixed-concrete-number-types
Copying here:
Happens at least one of the values (values == value in RowFilter, value in entry) is a decimal. Here's a failing test:
@Test
public void testRowFilterNumberMixCore() {
    TestEntry entry = new TestEntry(1.2f);
    RowFilter filter = RowFilter.numberFilter(ComparisonType.AFTER, 1, 0);
    assertTrue(entry + "must be included " + filter, filter.include(entry));
}the output is:
junit.framework.AssertionFailedError:
[entry: 1.2] must be included [RowFilter: ComparisonType = AFTER, comparableValue: 1, comparableClass: class java.lang.Integer]The reason is that NumberFilter falls back to comparing the numbers by their number.longValue() if they are not the same class (and by that comparable to each other)
Knowing that detail, the test failure is not astonishing (in hind-sight, would have never thought of that being an issue ;-) One level of defense is to make sure - in client code - that the numbers to compare are of the same class. That's not always possible (think f.i.: a tableColumn with columnClass Number) So I'm wondering if/how to improve on the fallback. Something like:
        if (one instanceof Comparable && one.getClass() == other.getClass()) {
            // same class, use comparator
            return ((Comparable) one).compareTo(other);
        if (areIntegers(one, other)) {
            // all integers, use longValue
            return longCompare(one, other);
        if (areDecimals(one, other)) {
            // anything to do here?
        // at last resort convert to BigDecimal and compare those:
        BigDecimal bigOne = new BigDecimal(one.toString());
        BigDecimal bigOther = new BigDecimal(other.toString());
        return bigOne.compareTo(bigOther);Doing so, makes the test pass - I'm a bit weary about hidden (read: unknown to me :) pitfalls. Any warnings/alternatives highly welcome!
Thanks,
Jeanette

FYI: nothing much turned up anywhere, so decided to solve as outlined.
Thanks for your interest :-)

  • Verizon system can't handle porting phone number from Straight Talk customers?

    According to this discussion: Verizon system can't handle porting phone number from Straight Talk customers?  If still true, then VW misses a huge business opportunity. Adjusting the sizing the account number to be wider is not a hard system adjustment task and have almost zero system ripple-effect impact (I am in IT works).
    http://www.prepaidreviews.com/straighttalk.html
    "Straight Talk makes it impossible to port an existing cell phone number from their operation to a competitor such as Verizon. To port my cell phone number I was told by Verizon to provide my ST account number. It was not listed on any account documents. After 45 minutes on hold, ST customer service told me it was the cell phone serial number. But that number was too long to insert into Verizon's system. After another hour long wait, ST directly told a Verizon rep that was the only account number. As a result, I had to abandon the cell phone number that I have had for nearly 10 years and get a new one. I will not be doing any business with ST in the future."

    Ah ha!  Okay, so I just need to be more patient in other words.    I'm just glad nothing is wrong.
    I did use the "erase all data and settings" option on the iPhone 6 menu because I wanted to go through the setup myself.  I hope that didn't mess anything up.
    Thank you!!

  • Can we handle exceptions for the expressions in select query?

    Hi all,
    Can we handle exceptions for the expressions in select query.
    I created a view, there I am extracting a substring from a character data and expected that as a number.
    For example consider the following query.
    SQL> select to_number( substr('r01',2,2) ) from dual;
    TO_NUMBER(SUBSTR('R01',2,2))
    1
    Here we got the value as "1".
    Consider the following query.
    SQL> select to_number( substr('rr1',2,2) ) from dual;
    select to_number( substr('rr1',2,2) ) from dual
    ORA-01722: invalid number
    For this I got error. Because the substr returns "r1" which is expected to be as number. So it returns "Invalid number".
    So, without using procedures or functions can we handle these type of exceptions?
    I am using Oracle 10 G.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Gowtham Sen.

    SQL> select decode(ltrim(rtrim(translate(substr('r21', 2, 2), '0123456789', ' ' ), ' '), ' '), null, (substr('r21', 2, 2)), null) from dual;
    DE

    SQL> ed a
    SQL> select decode(ltrim(rtrim(translate(substr('rr1', 2, 2), '0123456789', ' ' ), ' '), ' '), null, (substr('rr1', 2, 2)), null) from dual;

  • How can we handle CLOB in Universe and WebIntelligence

    Hi,
    Could  you explain how can we handle CLOB in Universe and WebIntelligence?If we use CLOB in either of this,how is the  Report performance ?Is the perfomance of report degraded? Appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Swapna

    Hi,
    There is no way around this, long texts are big chunks of data that have to be moved from the database to the webi report.
    Depending on how many rows of data you retrieve this can become a problem in various spots.
    1) network traffic (lots of data to move over the network).
    2) webi report memory (lots of data that needs to be stored in memory to work with the data).
    So you need to limit the query in either the number of rows being retrieved,
    or in the size of the data that is retrieved per row.
    Depending on your use of message text, you can limit long text object to a smaller number of characters.
    (Universe, Parameters, Controls...)
    Depending on your version of database and BO, the default of this value is 1000 or unrestricted.
    It might be that you just need an idea of the message and can limit this to 100 chars or similar, which should help performance.
    It is also possible that the text is always 'long' padded with spaces, in this case it can help to trim the message column in the universe already.
    Good luck,
    Marianne

  • Can we handle the pre defined exceptions?

    Hi people,
    I have a simple stored procedure in oracle 9i with following code.
    create or replace procedure psam1( no int) is
    a number;
    b number;
    e exception;
    v varchar(10);
    begin
    select sal into a from sample where sno=no;
    select count(*) into b from sample where sno=no;
    if b>1 then
    raise e;
    elsif a>1000 then
    v:='PASS';
    else
    v:='FAIL';
    end if;
    dbms_output.put_line(v);
    exception
    when e then
    raise_application_error(-20002,'MORE THAN ONE RECORD EXISTS');
    end;
    My question is if i want to handle the exception
    'ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows'.
    If my fetch retrieves more than one row then Exception e should be raised.but can we handle those predefined exceptions?.

    Hi Vids,
    As said already, yes you can.
    But there is some misunderstandig in your code. If in fact you do have ORA-01422, you second select will never get executed, since the first one will raise that.
    You code could be as simple as this:
    create or replace procedure psam1(no int)
    is
       a   number;
       v   varchar(10);
    begin
       select sal, case sign(sal -1000)
                    when 1 then 'PASS'
                    else 'FAIL'
                    end
         into a, v
         from sample
        where sno = no;
       dbms_output.put_line(v);
    exception
       when no_data_found  -- Predefined exception for ORA-00001
       then
          do_some_thing; -- Perhaps, just raise;
       when too_many_rows -- Predefined exception for ORA-01422
       then
          do_another_thing;  -- Perhaps, just raise;
    end;As you see ORA-01422 is predefined (TOO_MANY_ROWS), read more about those here [Predefined PL/SQL Exceptions|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28370/errors.htm#insertedID4]
    If you choose just to (re)-raise the exception then you should omit that exception handler.

    Peter

  • S750s - can't handle high volume :(

    Hi,
    I've had this problem for ages now, but have been too busy with work to do anything about it, but now that I've moved into my new house, I am aching to blow the roof off (metaphorically speaking)
    The problem? Crank the volume on the s750s anywhere over 5 bars (Audigy 4 pro volume at 80%) the sound jerks and skips at the bass notes. Any higher and it cant even handle the trebble.
    This is well annoying, I've disconnected everything, reconnected it all, done anything and everything sensible driver-wise. Reading some of the other posts about the s750s makes me think the issue is with the sub...
    First off, anyone else out there with this kind of problem? Secondly, what can I do about it apart from getting a new set?
    Cheerz

    Um, maybe you have a small room? You're telling the guy he shouldn't go over that number, then why did Creative allow the volume to go that high if it can't handle it's Maybe his room is bigger OR, I go to about 5 sometimes while playing games and when it gets louder, it starts feeling more immersive. I play guitar and I like to jam with songs and I can tell you right now, I have reached the bar 7 before. My guitar amp is only on it's half setting to match volume with the speakers. If the speaker system can't handle it, they shouldn't allow it to go up that high. The S750's have been a waste of my money anyway.

  • Can any one tell me How can I handle internal error in smartforn

    Hi,
    How can I handle internal error in smartforn, what type of problem can be.
    Regards
    chandra

    Look at [SAP Smart Forms (BC-SRV-SCR)|http://help.sap.com/printdocu/core/Print46c/en/data/pdf/BCSRVSCRSF/BCSRVSCRSF.pdf]
    Runtime Errors
    Each Smart Form can trigger a number of exceptions during its execution. To limit this number of exceptions, you can bundle the occurring errors in error classes and store them in an error log in the composer. For each error, you store an internal error number and (if possible) a message from table T100 (work area, message number, message text and parameters) in addition to the error class. To each error class, you assign an exception, which means that if the recognized error teminates the form processing, the system triggers exactly this exception. When an exception occurs, the caller of the Smart Form can use predefined function modules to read the error log and then decide which reaction is appropriate in the respective error context.
    Possible exceptions for the generated function module are:
    - FORMATTING_ERROR
    - INTERNAL_ ERROR
    - SEND_ERROR
    - USER_CANCELED
    In addition, you can define your own exceptions.
    If an error (or a warning) occurs, the system internally fills an error table. The application can now read this table as soon as the function module for the form is processed to the end. To read the table that contains all errors and warnings that occurred, call function module SSF_READ_ERRORS. The table has structure SSFERROR. The fields in the table are the number of the document within the job, the form name, an error number, a message class, a message type, a message number and four additional message variables. If processing is terminated, the application can dynamically display a message. The error numbers are defined in the include SSF_ERROR.
    If you want to trigger your own exception in the free coding of the Smart Form, you can use one of the following methods:
    - Use the macro user_exception <exception>, which triggers the exception <exception> and fills the above tables. After the termination additional system variables for the error (symsgno, sy-msgtyp, and so on) do not contain the values required for your own exception.
    - If you want to access the system variables sy-msgno, sy-msgtyp, and so on for your exception directly, proceed as follows: Call function module SSF_MESSAGE and trigger your exception yourself using the RAISE statement.
    The system field &SFSY-EXCEPTION& contains the name of the triggered exception.
    Then debug your program.
    Regards

  • Are You Trying To Edit A Format FCE Can't Handle? Take A Look Here.

    Lately a number of people have been having problems editing formats that FCE can't handle easily.
    I came across this link for FREE Mac video editing applications:-
    http://tv.isg.si/site/?q=node/873
    You will find apps for Windows and Linux platforms as well.
    I have no idea how good (or bad) they are, but thought that anybody trying to edit a weird format may find them useful alongside FCE ........ I could be completely wrong, but as they cost nothing you have nothing to lose - except time.
    Just noticed the article is over 3 years old, but the apps are still there for download ....... don't know how well they will work on the latest Macs, but you are not paying anything!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    To summarize your problem:
    1. It happens with more than one version of iPhoto.
    2. It happens in more that one account.
    3. It happens with more than one OS.
    Try some basic remedies. I don't think they will solve the problem, but it can't hurt to try them. Quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.iphoto.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iPhoto; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
    Do a verify and repair of permissions using Disk Utility.
    My feeling is that this is a hardware rather than software problem. If the problem persists, I suggest that you post in the PowerMac G5 forum.
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I change my contact number on iCloud?

    I have just purchased a new iPhone 5 and loaded IOS 8 and trying to connect Keychain verification via my Mac Book pro to verify to iCloud ID
    I cannot comply because iCloud has a discarded phone number and I see no option on how to correct this
    How can I change my contact number on iCloud?

    So the question is, what device are you changing it on?  Before doing anything, backup all devices, save all photos somewhere on a hard drive and export your contacts and calendar just in case.  I am a real beginner here, but I have been dealing with this issue for two weeks so I think I am getting a handle on it.  Hopefully someone can give even better advice.
    iCloud.com is a slave to whatever account you have setup on your IOS device, so it doesn't care what you sign in as.  There is nothing to "change" there, just sign in as whatever Apple ID you have setup on your devices.
    I would start on the Macbook.  Go under preferences, iCloud, and then sign out of your iCloud account.  Sign back in, but enter the new Apple ID that you want to use.  This will delete the old account, but give you the option of keeping everything you have in iCloud on your computer.  Turn everything on that you want to sync, and you will be back up with iCloud connected to a new AppleID.  iCloud.com will now mirror your MacBook.
    On the iPhone, go under Settings, and then iCloud, and delete the existing account.  You will loose whatever is in the Cloud from your phone, but they should already be back in the cloud from your MacBook fromthe above step, so no worried.  Setup a new iCloud account with the Apple ID you used above, and enable the things you want to sync. Everything should be back now and you have the new AppleID associated with your iCloud.
    The iPad is the same as the iPhone, delete the old and establish a new iCloud account with the AppleID you used above.  You will loose anything that is in the cloud from the iPad but it should repopulate once the new Apple ID is established.

  • PT-880 NEO-LSR can't handle new memory ??

    I recently decided to improve the performance of my "gaming rig" by pulling the Corsair value memory and just replaced it with Corsair twinX1024 PC3200-XL. I was impressed with the reviews and the out of the box "plug-n-frag" feature that will boot up at the timings of 2-2-2-5. Very tight timings for someone who isn't really interested in any major overclocking. The problem is that within 10 minutes of installing it on my PT-880 NEO-LSR board the system crashed. After some head scratching and continued crashes, I decided it was the new memory. The Corsair value memory never had an issue in dual channel mode. So I ended up running MEMtest86 on it, and it passed. So back to square one again. Well, after alot of trial and error I decided to go in the BIOS and turned off "auto by SPD" and through lots of experimenting , have it now stable with the following settings : 2-2-3-6 @2.75v. Well, It's very stable now with no crashes for 2 days. So can anyone tell me why this board can't handle the default settings of this memory? Are the extremely tight timings too much for this board? I really want to get what I paid for, and am open to suggestions to make it run stable at the advertised 2-2-2-5. If it helps, my system is as follows: MSI PT-880 NEO-LSR w/ latest BIOS flash v1.9 (I think thats the number), P-4 3.2ghz (Northwood), thermaltake silent Purepower 420watt PSU, Seagate 120gb. SATA HD, Gainward Golden Sample Geforce 6800 GT (overclocked), Creative Audigy2 soundcard, lite-on 52x CD/DVD rom combo , and lite-on 8x DVD burner drive. I built this system myself, but until now have never had to manually set timings to get it to run (unless overclocking). Maybe I'm finding out why there are $70.00 Mobo's and $200.00 mobos ?   Thanks in Advance group for any help!

    NovJoe,  Just wanted to let you know that Corsair was good enough to respond to me and gave me a few "tweaks" they wanted to see me try.  Although on this Mobo I can see no where to set the burst length to 8 as they asked, and for some reason the The SDRAM Active to Precharge (tRAS) can only be manually set down to 6T and not 5T as they wanted. I ended up resetting everything back to "auto by SPD" (reluctantly awaiting the big crash again on reboot). Much to my amazement it has been running for about 2hrs. now without a crash on the same auto settings it refused to run at 2 days ago when I installed it. Really strange huh? So being the memory newb that I am.....how can I view what it's actually running the timings at presently under auto settings??    Thanks- Herb
