Rules for casting generics type

I know that there is a section in jsr14 spec about rules of casting generic types, but it seems outdated with
JLS3.
It is obvious that e.g. Class<String> cannot be casted to Class<Integer>.
However in
<T,V> void foo (Class<T> ct) {
Class<V> cv = (Class<V>)ct;
The cast is permitted by the compiler though of course marked as unchecked (The cast should be rejected according to jsr14 spec since none of the types is a subtype of the other).
So the question is: what are the rules, compiler uses to check casts?

1. There is an (unsafe) explicit cast from l1 to l2.
2. There is an implicit cast in the last line, because
l2 is a List<String>, the line is compiled to the
equivalent of
System.out.println(" result:" + (String) l2.get(0));
// ClassCastException: java.lang.String

  • Question about compile-time legality rules for cast conversion

    Hi, In the rules which explain compile-time legality for cast conversion, it is often mentioned the following scenario in the cast conversion of a compile-time type S to a compile-time type T:
    if S is a class type then:
    if T is a class type then either |S| <: |T| or |T| <: |S| or a compile time error occurs. Furthermore, if there exist a supertype X of T and a supertype Y of S such that X and Y are provably distinct parameterized types and that the erasures of X and Y are the same, a compile-time error occurs.
    As regards the quote in bold, I imagine the following scenario:
    1) S <: T and extends Y
    2) Y<T1...Tn>
    3) X<T1..Tn>
    4) T extends X
    Does the above represents a supertype X of T and a supertype Y of S such that X and Y are provenly distinct parameterized types? If that holds, what does it mean that the erasure of X and Y is the same?

    Declarative programing has all but gone the way of
    the doe doe because...
    1: It is not flexible (It is extremely difficult to
    change a complex system in a predetermined way)isn't this the "expert system" model?
    2: It lengthens the development cycle (see item 1)
    3: It normally forces the developer to add many
    things to there code to get things to work, that have
    nothing to do with the intent of the code.more things? the declarations or the declaration processing?
    In its defense (I like a declarative model but, do
    not like being forced into one)...not advocating a forced change in Java
    1: It increases code safety.
    2: It can shorten the development cycle, in certain
    circumstances (especially if it is not overused),
    because it can greatly increase the readability of
    code.
    3: It follows many best practices (although this is
    also possible in a Non-Declarative model).as for best practices what I'd like to see are declarative design patterns, Adapter, Singleton, Factory, Delegate, Strategy, Interpreter, Proxy, Visitor
    too often the design intent is lost in an implementation or design details can only be deduced by class/field/method names, comments, and accompanying docs
    So, if everyone had unlimited time, and an unlimited
    budget, yes declaritive is the way to go. Since that
    is not the case, we filtered out 99% of what it gave
    us, made sure the stuff that was getting in the way
    was removed, and what do you have???
    You guessed it OOA&D.
    Now having said that should we be more declarative? I
    think so, but I will tell you now, REQUIRING
    declarative elements in code is a sure fire way to
    get the majority of development groups to drop the
    language (and I think Java as it stands currently CAN
    be declarative, so if you have one of those unlimited
    budgets, go for it!).no need to require it
    I believe given good (reusable) declarative options, on top of OOP, will become the chosen approach
    reusable design declarations would lessen overall cost and increase readability

  • Itu00B4s possible to change the Distribution rules for a order type RM01 ??

    Hi Experts:
    I need to change the settlement rule which is automatic created at the moment  that you create a Cost colector (class order RM01) transaction KKF6N..
    but when I go into KKF6N transaction and I select the "change" option and after that I go into settlement rule screen, I can´t change the distribution rule.
    I would need to change the settlement type from "PER" value to "TOT" value.. It´is possible in this kind of Cost colectors??
    Thanks and regards!
    Manuel

    Hi,
       Please note that you will not be able to change manually the settlement rule for a cost collector.
    When you save, the system creates a settlement rule for the product cost collector.
    The settlement rule for the product cost collector always specifies the distribution rule "100% to material" and the settlement type  is always PER (periodic).
    Also refer the note 388457 in which one of the paragraph it says "As of Release 4.5, a special settlement rule is generated when you create a product cost collector (with procedure 5: delivery value for product cost collector). You cannot subsequently change this settlement rule".

  • Checking rule for sales document types

    Hi,
    Can I change the cheking rule for a sales document type? Where could I change it? or should I build Z table?
    Thanks!

    7,
    Checking rule is hard-coded into standard SAP sales doc maintenance programs.  For SOs, it is A or A* (depending on the stock type).  For Deliveries, it is B or B*.  There is no way to use standard configuration to alter the rule within SD.

    u can check the below the material also
    what is BAPI?
    BAPI stands for Business API(Application Program Interface).
    I have answered this question before..
    A BAPI is remotely enabled function module ie it can be invoked from remote programs like standalone JAVA programs, web interface etc..
    You can make your function module remotely enabled in attributes of Function module but
    A BAPI are standard SAP function modules provided by SAP for remote access. Also they are part of Businees Objest Repository(BOR).
    BAPI are RFC enabled function modules. the difference between RFc and BAPI are business objects. You create business objects and those are then registered in your BOR (Business Object Repository) which can be accessed outside the SAP system by using some other applications (Non-SAP) such as VB or JAVA. in this case u only specify the business object and its method from external system in BAPI there is no direct system call. while RFC are direct system call Some BAPIs provide basic functions and can be used for most SAP business object types. These BAPIs should be implemented the same for all business object types. Standardized BAPIs are easier to use and prevent users having to deal with a number of different BAPIs. Whenever possible, a standardized BAPI must be used in preference to an individual BAPI.
    The following standardized BAPIs are provided:
    Reading instances of SAP business objects
    GetList ( ) With the BAPI GetList you can select a range of object key values, for example, company codes and material numbers.
    The BAPI GetList() is a class method.
    GetDetail() With the BAPI GetDetail() the details of an instance of a business object type are retrieved and returned to the calling program. The instance is identified via its key. The BAPI GetDetail() is an instance method. BAPIs that can create, change or delete instances of a business object type
    The following BAPIs of the same object type have to be programmed so that they can be called several times within one transaction. For example, if, after sales order 1 has been created, a second sales order 2 is created in the same transaction, the second BAPI call must not affect the consistency of the sales order 2. After completing the transaction with a COMMIT WORK, both the orders are saved consistently in the database.
    Create( ) and CreateFromData! ( )
    The BAPIs Create() and CreateFromData() create an instance of an SAP business object type, for example, a purchase order. These BAPIs are class methods.
    Change( )
    The BAPI Change() changes an existing instance of an SAP business object type, for example, a purchase order. The BAPI Change () is an instance method.
    Delete( ) and Undelete( ) The BAPI Delete() deletes an instance of an SAP business object type from the database or sets a deletion flag.
    The BAPI Undelete() removes a deletion flag. These BAPIs are instance methods.
    Cancel ( ) Unlike the BAPI Delete(), the BAPI Cancel() cancels an instance of a business object type. The instance to be cancelled remains in the database and an additional instance is created and this is the one that is actually canceled. The Cancel() BAPI is an instance method.
    Add<subobject> ( ) and Remove<subobject> ( ) The BAPI Add<subobject> adds a subobject to an existing object inst! ance and the BAPI and Remove<subobject> removes a subobject from an object instance. These BAPIs are instance methods.

  • Validation Rule for Accounting Document type

    Hello Experts
       I have an requirement  to block certain accounting doc type to get vendor line item post in that. For that I tried to block direct through OBA7 but not be able to also can't delete number range as it is shared by another doc type. My last option is Validation rule but i never work on this ,so any suggest how to create validation rule " To Block Accounting Doc type SO THAT THERE WILL NOT BE ANY line item posting occur in that doc type.
    Regards.

    ok sure.  OB28 callpoint 1.  Create a step under this callpoint.
    1)  Prerequisite is as follows:  note XXXX is your company code and ZZ is your doc type.
    BKPF-BUKRS = 'XXXX' AND
    BKPF-BLART = 'ZZ'
    2)  Then you need to enter the check.  Here you can just put FALSE.
    3)  The last part is to create your message.  Message type E so they get an error and then create a message number in the class that you choose and give it a description:
    Document Type 'ZZ' is not allowed
    Save it and wah lah!
    Let me know how it goes.
    Thanks,

  • Substitution rule for SD Condition type

    We have a pricing procedure ZPOS in which we have SD condition type ZM10 for 7% additional special levy on the basic billing.
    The account key ERS is assigned to the condition type and a GL is assigned to the account key in VKOA settings.
    Based on different invoice types, the special levy amount should hit different GL accounts via a substitution rule without creating multiple condition types.
    Please respond if anyone has a solution to this scenario.

    Hello,
    You can use business transaction event for G/L account changing while posting FI documents.
    But you can use SD exit while transfering SD invoice to FI document.
    Please try this exit below,
    SDVFX004 - User exit G/L line in transfer to accounting - EXIT_SAPLV60B_004
    I hope this exit more useful than substitution.

  • Settlement rule for Rental unit

    Hello all,
    Request your kind help. i have created a Building under a BE. Then I have created a RO object of type Rental Space (RS).
    I am now trying to maintain settlement rule for the RS. First I am going into the Edit - CO settlement rule and maintaining the required rules.
    I find that the Save button is deactivated in this screen. So i click on the BACK button and come back to the master data screen of the RS. Now i am clicking on the SAVE button and the nessage appears "Rental Space has been changed".
    I am then coming out of the screen by typing /N.
    Again I am typing /NREBDRO and calling the same master data (RS). Now when i am trying to view the settlement rule that I just created and saved, the system issues an error message "no settlement rule is defined".
    My questions are:
    1.  What are the basic setting configs required to be able to save a settlement rule for a rental object?
    2.  Why am I unable to save the settlement rules to this RS.
    3. I am not facing any such problem when I am trying to assign settlement rules for RO of type Pooled Space. So why is it that there is a problem with Rental Spaces?
    Request your kind help please.
    Regards,
    Suvarghya Dutta

    Hello all,
    Let me rephrase the doubt:
    Can someone please tell me how I may find out as to which objects could the costs incurred on the following objects be settled to ?
    BE
    BU
    Pooled Space (PS)
    Rental Space (RS).
    Also, if the settlemnt rule in BU states that costs would be settled to BE, then is it possible to define:
    1. Valid settlement rule in PS, marking a cost centre as a receipient
    2. Valid settlement rule in RS, marking a cost centre as a receipient.
    Can someone please tell me what is the basis or ratinality to be followed while defining settlement rules on RE-FX objects?
    Kindly help.

  • EBS - Electronic Bank Statement Multiple Posting Rule for One External Transaction Type NTRF

    hello SAP Gurus,
    I'm configuring EBS - Electronic Bank Statement. My requirement is for Bank External Transaction Type NTRF <for Incoming Payment> I want to assign 2 posting rules for Posting Area 2 that is Sub-Ledger posting viz. <1> For the payments received from Customer which should clear the Customer Open item since it is bill to bill exactly matching the open line item and <2> For the payments which should not clear the Customer Open item since i know that they are not bill to bill and only partial against the original line item
    Is this possible? if yes then how?
    Currently, SAP allows only one assignment like one external transaction type NTRF => one Posting Rule <either clear the sub-ledger-system picks FB05 or just post on Sub-ledger so that not to clear - system uses FB01 >
    Journal for Posting Area 2:
    Bank Clearing Account Dr
       To Customer Account Cr  <either set this to clear with original invoice / or just post on customer so as to clear/handle it manually later on once paid fully>
    So, what is the solution; how can i differentiate my incoming whether fully payment or partial payment; since bank statement always tag it to external transaction type NTRF always for any incoming payments !
    regards,
    `raj.

    Hi,
    You cannot create separate rule with sub ledger postings while executing electronic bank reconciliation.The reason is your bill to bill transfers should posted to bank sub ledger account first and then you can write a BDC to clear sub ledger account.Otherwise use F.13 to clear the sub ledger account.

  • Generic Object Services for Custom Object Type

    I would like some advice please. I am not an ABAP Developer but I would like to enable the generic object services for transaction PP01 for a custom object type.
    I have searched for information, which suggests that the object needs to be published using the function module SWU_OBJECT_PUBLISH so that it is available in the Business Object Repository. If this is correct, please could someone tell me (in simple terms) how I can do this (with the assistance of an ABAP developer)?
    My colleague did some debugging which seemed to suggest that in order for the generic object services to be available, the field OBJTYP needs to be populated in table T778O. Is this correct? If so, how should this be done?
    Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Validation rule for expense type

    Hi,
    I'd like to know if it's possible to create a validation rule for expense type and personnel number.
    I need to lock some expense types for some personnel number.
    Thanks in advance.
    Osmar Tardivo.

    Hello,
    Sorry to say but I am not aware of any customization which restrict an expenses type based on personal number..
    There is a setting which can restrict Travel Expense Types based on Employee Grouping. Please go through below path.
    Travel Management-> Travel Expenses-> Control Parameters for Travel Expenses-> Control Parameters from Travel Privileges-> Define Employee Grouping for Travel Expense Types
    Hope this help you!

  • How to setup a routing rule for a specific file type for the content organizer?

    Hello,
    how can I set a routing rule for a specific file type, for example for "pdf" or for "docx", for my content organizer?

    Hi Johny,
    Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to create a routing rule for a specific file type.
    I recommend to create rules with the conditions as the image below shows for the Document content type(for example: .docx files):

  • Define selection rule for Day type

    Dear Experts
        As I want to "Define selection rule" for "day types" in Time Management-> work schedule-> Day types-> define selection rule, the third and 4th columns are default weekdays of SAP, But weekend is different in our system. How can we handle this subject? Can we change these columns to our needs? How?
    For example we want to define that friday is not working day in our company and it should be payed, is there any other option?
    Thank you all,...

    Hi friend,
    Check:
    Time Management -> Work Schedules -> Period Work Schedules -> Define Period Work Schedules
    btw, you should check factory Holiday calendar (Tcode: SCAL) and generate Work schedule for year.
    IMG: Time Management -> Work Schedules -> Work Schedule Rules and Work Schedules -> Generate Work Schedules in Batch

  • Tutorial for make a non-generic type class from a generic type interface

    Hi there,
    How can I make a non-generic type class from a generic type interface?
    I appreciate if somebody let me know which site can help me.
    Regards
    Maurice

    I have a generic interface with this signature
    public interface IELO<K extends IMetadataKey>
    and I have implemented a class from it
    public class CmsELOImpl<K extends IMetadataKey> implements IELO<K>, Cloneable, Serializable
    then I have to pass class of an instance CmsELOImpl to AbstractJcrDAO class constructor whit below signature
    public abstract class AbstractJcrDAO<T> implements JcrDAO<T> {
    public AbstractJcrDAO( Class<T> entityClass, Session session, Jcrom jcrom ) {
              this(entityClass, session, jcrom, new String[0]);
    So I have made another class extended from AbstractJcrDAO. Below shows the code of this class and itd constructor
    public class ELODaoImpl extends AbstractJcrDAO<CmsELOImpl<IMetadataKey>> {
         public ELODaoImpl( Session session, Jcrom jcrom ) {
         super(CmsELOImpl.class , session , jcrom, MIXIN_TYPES);
    and as you see in its constructor I am calling the AbstractJcrDAO constructor by supper method
    then I got this error on the line of super method
    The constructor AbstractJcrDAO(class<CmsELOImpl>, session, Jcrom, String[]) is undefined.
    as I know java generics are implemented using type erasure. This generics are only
    in the java source file and not in the class files. The generics are only used by the compiler and
    they are erased from the class files. This is done to make generics compatible with (old) non generics java code.
    As a result the class object of AbstractJcrDAO<CmsELOImpl<IMetadataKey>>
    is AbstractJcrDAO.class. The <CmsELOImpl<IMetadataKey>> information is
    not available in the class file. As far as I understand it, I am looking a way
    to pass <CmsELOImpl<IMetadataKey>>, if it is possible at all.

  • Question on Cast & generics

    Only an unfinished idea (formulated as question in a may be wrong forum):
    One of the big strength of generics is, that explicit cast may be avoided in many cases.
    From day one Java inserted cast by itself where possible and clear. Using + in print() for all
    kind of objects is a cast to (String) and this is handled via a special methods toString()
    in Object.
    I was always wondering, why a cast to type T is not treated as a "normal" operation , in case
    where the cast is not well specified in the language or via generics. Now it inevitably leads to
    an exception, without even sending a cast-message to the object.
    Would it not be much more OO/Generic, to call something like <T> T cast(Class t) method
    located in Object with a default behavior (throwing an cast-exception), which can be overriden
    in classes to react individually on those casts, and not only in the special case +(String)object
    by calling object.toString() .

    thread "Request for non-throwing cast!" and your reply no. 7 and 9The 'design flaw' reply (no 8) by dcminter holds, but sometimes you have to work with imperfectly designed APIs, and that just have to use multiple if/then/else if ... constructs. This in turn doesn't mean that you have encourage bad design by providing default behaviour. See also reply 21 by lucretius.
    and the track "Possible solution for unchecked casts?"That thread is not about providing new default behaviour, it is about restricting/improving present default behaviour (the unchecked cast)
    But you may answer cast is not an operator.Cast is an operator, but it returns it's argument untouched when it doesn't throw a ClassCastException. This rule allows the compiler to optimize and remove type checks if it can prove that the cast's argument will be of the desired type. In combination with parameterized types, that has proven to be difficult ;)
    I assume you want the Object.as() method because you find yourself writing the same conversion code on different places. In that case, I would advise to create some kind of Converter object that contains the convert() method:
    interface Converter<T,U> {
       /** Convert an object from class T to class U. */

       Class<T> getFromClass();
       Class<U> getToClass();

       public abstract <T,U> void registerConverter(Converter<T,U> cnv);
       /** Convert an object to class U. */
       public <T,U> U as(Class<T> tClass, Class<U> uClass, T t) {
          return getConverter(tClass, uClass).convert(t);
    }Because this allows for multiple conversion managers, you can use different conversions on different places.
