Runtime engine huge issue

Hi,
I have a very big issue with the labview runtime engine.
I use the print at completion mode for a VI and it seems the runtime engine doesn't support either the PNG compression property or the Scale frontpanel property. Which one I still need to find out.
The executable says that arg 3 of my property node is not supported.
Now, this is killing for my application as I can not use the application without this feature.
If someone has an idea, please let me know. I'm under high time pressure and really have no other choice than to distribute a complete development setup if I can't solve the issue.
Regards,
Marcel

Remember that PNG is a lossless bitmap image. There is some compression but it is a lossless compression so there isn't a setting for level of compression. I think that there are some differences in compression algorithms but the difference is minor and only useful if you have particular images that compress better than others. There is only 1 compression type which is zlib, but there are filters that can be applied before compression:
Compression
Filters
PNG can be completely implemented with opensource free software and the specification is patent and royalty free. I don't know why the "compression type" needs to be specified for PNG.

  • Runtime Engine Distribution Licensing (Legal) Issues?

    Hi Everyone,
I need an official word from National Instruments on this one.
I've written a program using LabVIEW that I would like to distribute to the public.  It runs in conjunction with a C#-based executable and is installed using the C# program's installer.  Is there any legal/licensing problem with including the LabVIEW Runtime Engine installer with the C# program's installer?
    Thanks!

    Hi Yohan,
Thanks for your post and I hope your well.
You can distribute LabVIEW executables freely. There is no need of a license to run executables that only require the Runtime Engine. Other modules such as Real Time do require a Run-Time License. Please see this link for more details: Which Software Requires a Run-Time License?
Can I ask more about your application - why do you require to distrubte these together?
    Hope this helps,

  • Runtime engine 8.6.1 on Labview 11

    Hello,
I have upgraded labview 10 to Lv 11. A program that used to work on Lv 10 is giving problems now. It asks for runtime engine 8.6 ( usually gets stucked preparing the installation ). Once i cancel this process, it loads all the vi's, and it seems to work, but I can't be sure until all the devices are connected, and it can't be done until september. My question is, do i really need to install runtime engine 8.6 to make it work properly, or it can work without it?
And if I downgrade to Labview 10, will i solve this issue??
    Thanks in advance!!

This is actually strange behavior because the runtime engine 8.6.1, if it is installed on the computer, should be accesible both from LV2011 and from LV2010.
What do you mean by "downgrade to LabVIEW 2010? You may have multiple version of LabVIEW on the same computer. Did you uninstall LV2010 first? If you did, then it may happened that you uninstalled the runtime engine 8.6 at the same time.
Do you really need or don't need the engine depends of your application. In any case, it should not be a problem to download the runtime engine from ni.com and install it. http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1244/lang/en

  • How do CVI7.0 runtime engine and TestStand3.0 runtime engine work in a test system?

I developed code modules from CVI 7.0, and test sequence from TestStand 3.0. Now I want to deploy all to a test system. Should I create distribution kits for CVI and TestStand, and install to a target PC? Do each kit include the RTE? How do the runtime engine work in a system?

    hp7550,
I saw your post earlier entitled "what is a run-time engine?". It looks like this post is addressing the same issue.
To answer your questions, it is not necessary to create a distribution kit for your CVI code modules. You can simply install the CVI Run-time Engine, which you can find if you go to www.ni.com and click on the Drivers and Updates link on the left-hand side.
Then you will need to deploy your TestStand system using Tools >> Deploy TestStand System in the Sequence Editor. That tool will go out and gather all the CVI code modules your sequence calls - unless you are calling a DLL or something dynamically inside of a code module; in which case, you need to add that dynamically called DLL (or code module) to your TestStand workspace.
To install the TestStand Run-time Engine, make sure the Install TestStand Engine option is checked on the Installer Options tab of the deployment utility. You can customize what gets installed with the engine by clicking on the Engine Options.
For more information on deployment, see Chapter 14 of the TestStand Reference manual (Help >> Search the TestStand Bookshelf...).
To answer your last question a run-time engine simply gives you access to the compiled code that corresponds to the functions you used from the CVI or TestStand libraries during development.
    I hope that helps.

  • How to Detect LV runtime engine prior to showing Remote panel in browser?

I work on a web server that delivers remote panels embedded in browser windows.  On new machines, the labview runtime engine needs to be downloaded and installed.
Currently, when a new user 'hits' the remote panel, the user is prompted and then downloads the component.  However, the user experiences some errors that can be confusing.  The first time, the remote panel is not embedded properly and the user must go 'BACK' then reload the page.
We would like to check and detect whether the LVRT engine is installed prior to posting a webpage that contains a remote panel.
What is the best way to detect whether the LVRT engine is installed on a remote computer?

My brain is swimming... I haven't had enough coffee this morning... There is a chicken and egg issue.  As soon as I post the page, the client knows it needs to install the Labview runtime engine.  However, my Labview process has already attempted to place the remote panel in the page.   I get an error.  I'll admit that I haven't delved into my software since there are two spawned processes involved.  One process responds to the request and another lingers in memory running the remote panel until the user finishes.
From my perspective my lingering process should be sufficient to get the remote panel displayed when the RTE in finished installing but here is the catch.  Installing the RTE requires a reboot, therefore the server process would need to linger in memory a long time and then would need to recoginize that a user from the same computer and login is looking for the page.  Not really the way to go.  I can't have a process on the server lingering waiting for a user to reboot his computer and then do something when they start running again.  That process needs to die right away if the RTE is not available.

Would it be possible for this lingering process to check to see if the web server read has timed out?  The default is 60 seconds, and you can change it by going to Tools>>Options>>Web Server: Configuration.

To avoid more confuison,Here is the scenario,
The version that was on the driver attached is from the  driver manufacturer.
I do not have any version of labview INSTALLED on my system. I am using the driver in Test Stand 2012 using a labview adapter.
I make sure I match the VI version and the run time engine version on TestStand 2012 to load the VI.
But for this specific driver, I was not successful in loading the VI at all.
As I understood that only 8.0 OR LATER are supported on TS 2012, I have asked to upconvert the driver to work with 8.2.1 Labview runtime engine.
I have now got a.LLB file of the driver  mass compiled in Labview 2012 from discussion boards( and also attached here).  I have tried the mass compiled LLB file on TS2012 but still have issues loading the VI as it moans about different version of SUB VIs.
However I am still trying to fix this version incomaptibilies. Any help would be much appreciated

  • Front panel class objects are missing their icons in the runtime engine

I have this project that contain some class objects. When run in the developer environment, the icons appear fine.
However when I build as an executable and run it in the runtime engine, the icons are missing.
These missing icons are purely cosmetic and the underlying logic works without a problem. Is there anyway to get these icons to display when built as an executable?

    Known issue, see http://lavag.org/topic/12980-class-control-icon-not-shown-in-run-time/
EDIT: have you considered just making that control invisible?  Takes a bit of manipulation of property nodes and references but you can do it as shown:

  • Unable to determine the install root path for the LabVIEW Runtime Engine

    Hi,
i have an issue with using a LabVIEW interop assembly in a .NET application. I get an exception "Unable to determine the install root path for the LabVIEW Runtime Engine" when calling the assembly.
The little test program is attached below. It's called dotNETHost.exe. If you excecute the programm a dialog with an button appears. Clicking the button shall open another dialog (the LabVIEW Interop component). But the only thing I get is the exception message. The ZIP folder also contains the complete exception meassage (ExceptionMessange.jpg & ExceptionDetails.txt).
The Interop Assembly was built with LabVIEW 2011. We use Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0.. The dotNETHost.exe.config file is prepared as mentioned in Knowledge base - Loading .NET 4.0 assemblies.
The Interop assembly contains only one simple dialog (loop is finished by clicking OK) without calling any other VIs or other DLL's.  In case of this there's also no support directory generated by the build process.
I have no idea why it doesn' work. I hope anyone can help me.
    Thanks in advance

  • Installer build wants wrong runtime engine

    LabVIEW 8.6
    Windows XP Pro
When I build the installer for my application, it wants me to have available the install disk from November 2007.
Expanding the list for that disk, I find that it wants the runtime engine for version 7.1.1.
If I remove NI-DMM 2.9 from the 'National Instruments Installers to Include' list in the Installer Properties, the error goes away.  The description for that installer indicates it comes from the August 2008 device drivers disk.
At one time I had other versions of LV on the computer.  I have removed all other versions, including the directories in c:\Program Files.
My application uses the DMM device driver, so I assume that I need to check the box for the additional installer.  I've looked for more documentation on when and why I should select different items in the list, but couldn't find anything useful.  Would it be possible for the installer to automatically select those items required and perhaps let me direct it otherwise by choosing fewer or more items?
Bottom line, do I need to select the DMM driver to ensure that my application will run on a computer that doesn't have LV installed?

    Hello all,
I couldn't really understand what was doing on in the above questions and answers but from the forum topic I believe I am in right place. I have an issue similar to those desscribed above. I have LabView 8.6.0 installed on my computer but when I run LabView it starts asking for 'NI LabView Runtime 7.1.1'. I tried feeding in the labview 8.6.0 but it doesn't accept it and keeps asking for 7.1.1.
The program used to run fine couple of months back and I then didn't use it for a while and I had other prgrams installed durig this time. And when this month I tried to use LabView it started giving me this trouble. I don't know what went wrong. I installed some ftdi chip drivers also. So, I am thinking if that kind of messed things up.
Also, I have this windows installer message come up sometimes which is not when I open LabView but some other programs. I don't know if this windows installer has to do anything with it.
Whatever the case it is could someone please help me figure out how I can get the right runtime work for my LabView 8.6 and if also possible how i can get rid of this windows installer message. I don't remember the error code right now because it comes up randomly. Next time I see it I am going to save that number. But in the meantime if anyone can help me with LabView 8.6. runtime engine problem.
    Thanks,
    Lovepreet

  • USB/Serial Drivers and App Builder Installer Questions...are drivers included in the Installer with the LV runtime engine?

    Hello all,
I'm wondering if someone can help me out with how drivers and all are treated with applications distributed with App Builder, used to create a stand alone, full install of app and labview engine with Installer.
What has happened  is, my application was created using the NI branded USB to RS232...and USB to RS485, and they work great.
On the application when running..you fire it up, it finds the USB to serial device, and I have a dropdown that finds the available COM ports to use (along with setting parity, etc).
I've installed on different computers (without previous labview installs) with the installer. They all worked.
The customer has received the installer....and despite us telling them to use the NI branded USB/Serial interfaces..they are trying to work with a different USB/serial cable.
They say the COM ports aren't even showing up when they run the installed application.
So, I'm not sure where to start. Is this a driver issue?  Does the App Builder Installer...install the drivers for the interfaces I was using with it? Is there a way for the person to find and install a driver on their own...or would I have to somehow find out a driver for what they use....then, basically redo the App Builder Installer build...to include that driver with the executable I send back out?
I guess I basically need a better understanding of how drivers for external access/communications are handled when you use App Builder to create a stand alone application complete with the labview runtime engine...and nothing else.
    Thank you in advance,
    cayenne

The main thing is that LV uses VISA to talk to serial port whether native on the machine or from USB dongles that you plug into the computer. It sounds to me like their dongles aren't working.
Can the customer see the ports in the Windows Device Manager? Can they access them through something like hyperterminal? How does your program find the USB/Serial devices?

  • "runtime engine" crash

I have a problem with a LabView executable compiled for LV 6.1: it works without problem on a PC which has just LV Runtime Engine 6.1 installed, but it crashes (without error message) on a different machine that has a full installation of LV 8.5 and Runtime Engines 8.5, 8.2, 8.0, 7.1, 7.0 and 6.1. On this 2nd machine I installed Runtime Engine 6.1 last, because I got the error message about the missing engine when I tried to run the executable in question. After having installed the Runtime Engine, I no longer get the error message, but after a brief moment (before the first GUI opens) the executable crashes quietly. Any suggestions on how to solve this issue (rebooting the PC didn't solve it BTW)? According to the information I found so far on the NI website, Runtime Engines of different LV versions are supposed to run in parallel without problem.
As for my config: MS Windows 2003, Standard Edition, SP2
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Matthias,
then i fear that you are running into compatibility issues with the OS. Windows Server 2003 was never tested with any LV Version.
Reading the ReadMe from LV 8.6 it states:
LabVIEW supports Windows Vista/XP/2000. LabVIEW does not support Windows NT/Me/98/95, any of the Windows Server editions, or Windows XP x64. LabVIEW does support Windows Vista x64.
Since your system runs on Windows Server 2003 (since you didn't answer my questionmark in the last post, i think that is a fact) you are lucky that the newer application runs.
Please note that "not supported" means: it was never tested and therefore it might work, but if not, NI does not supply any support.
So the only solution to your issue is to switch to an OS which LV RTE 6.1 was tested on; the newest OS i think was tested (although not sure) is Windows XP.
    hope this helps,
    Norbert

  • Runtime Engine 7.1.1 Disk 2 when starting Labview

I have labview version 8.2.1 installed on my computer.
The other day I installed some application by another company that must have installed Labview Runtime Engine 7.1.1 on my computer.  I didn't need that program anymore, so I uninstalled it.
Now anytime I try to run any labview programs on my computer, I get several dialog boxes wanting me to put NI Labview Runtime Disk #2 in my CD drive.
How can I get rid of these dialog boxes?
    Please help!!!

    Hi bkundework,
This issue seems very strange but I do have a few suggestions. The first idea that comes to mind is to repair LabVIEW 8.2.1 from Add/Remove Programs. If you no longer have the 8.2.1 disks or if a repair does not work, you should install the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 8.2.1. This download is available on NI’s website.
These two ideas are the easiest ways to possibly fix things. If they don’t, a list of all the NI Software you have installed would be helpful for going forward.

  • CIN (Code interface node) LabVIEW runtime engine dependency

    Hello:
Am I correct that the old style CIN (code interface node) is not dependent on what version of LabVIEW runtime engine is being used?

What I thought I could do is generate dll from the vi's that contain the CIN using LabVIEW 7.1 with application builder.
I could use the Call Library Function from LabVIEW 2010 to load the 7.1 generated dll  to effectively do what the old CIN accomplished
provided I installed the LabVIEW 7.1 runtime engine on my LabVIEW 2010 machine
    Thanks for the input
If the CIN resource doesn't load you most likely changed the LabVIEW platform. LabVIEW for Windows 32 Bit and LabVIEW for Windows 64 Bit are different platforms. Just as LabVIEW for Windows and LabVIEW for Macintosh or Linux. A 32 Bit DLL, which a CIN is internally can't be executed in a 64 Bit environment at all.
Your solution fails for more than one reason here. LabVIEW will try to load and link a LabVIEW DLL into its actual runtime environment to avoid interprocess communication latency which would be inavoidable if the DLL is started in a seperate runtime engine, which is in fact a new process. If your issue is 32 bit to 64 Bit you won't be able to link the 7.1 32 Bit DLL into your LabVIEW 64 Bit application through the Call Library Node at all.
