S1/POS Standby.. can't wake up

This is with b2.2 but has been the same way since 1.2.
Basically it's simple.. it goes into standby but can't be awakened. Have to reset or cycle power.
I have
 ACPI Standby State : S1/POS
 Power Management/APM : Enabled
Suspend Timeout : Disabled (to let Windows do it)
Monitored Events
 FDC/LPT/COM : Monitor
 Primary Master IDE : Monitor
Wake Up Events
 Resume on PME# : Enabled
Keyboard Power On : Any Key
Mouse Power On : Left Button
Neither Keyboard or Mouse wake it up. Not sure what "PME#" is exactly but seemed like Enabled was the way to go. Modem (com port) activity doesn't  wake it up either.

The post from Mitch says it works OK as long as Perf mode is set to Fast or Slow but I wasn't willing to risk trying that again.

  • I can´t wake up my imac from Win 7

I have a problem with my imac 21'5 year 2010. I have mountain lion and win 7 and until today was good. Yesterday, In preferences I choose bootcamp (win 7 installed) for I work in old program and when I finished, I put  my imac in standby mode. Now I can´t wake up my imac because it seems that wireless keyboard don't connect and the screen is black. I know that imac is on but I can`t do nothing.
    Can you help me?
    thanks

Thanks Rugedar, but your solution was my first hipotetical solution. When turn off my imac, (push button 10 seconds), pull electrical connection (I expect 30 sec) and after push electrical connection and turn in my imac, as I hear when my imac turn on, but the screen remains black and the wireless keyboard and mouse don't work.
    Can you think of anything?
    Thanks

  • After updating my mac, I can no longer close the lid without it going into a sleep mode, that I can only wake by powering off.

Ever since I have updated my Macbook Pro to the newest version of OS, it will go into a sleep mode when I close the lid that I can only wake with powering off the entire computer. I used to be able to close the lid for the night, open it in the morning, and it would be like I never even left it overnight. Now I try to wake it up with pushing everything possibe. Is this new to the update? I even tried to set the settings to "never sleep". Help!

    Try Reset SMC.

  • Windows can't wake up after closing the lid of a MBP?

My Windows XP can't wake up after I close the lid of my MBP. When I open the lid, the screen is black and the latch light is out.

I cannot solve your problem but I did have the same problem which has now evolved into my computer NEVER going to sleep and my bluetooth does not work I have tried all the advice I can find and nothing works. Of course my waranty expired four months ago so now I will have to come up with the money to fix it if I want this resovled. If your warenty is still good I suggest having someone look at it before it evloves into a bigger problem.

  • Can MBP wake up if lid is closed?

I use and online backup program that I'd like to have run during the night. I know I can set my energy saver so that when the MBP is plugged in it can wake up and go to sleep on a schedule. My plan was to set the computer to wake up when plugged in at 1AM and set my online backup program to backup at 1AM. However, it looks like if the lid is closed, it can't wake up.
Is this so? If so, is there a way I could easily change the setting for what closing the lid does in terms of sleep, etc.?
    Thanks

I don't see why you need to close the lid at all, unless you're transporting it overnight like on a plane trip. I sleep my MacBook Pro at night, but I leave the lid open since it's on my desk and there is no real reason to close it if it's not moving from there and I'm just going to open it up again in the morning anyway. I leave it open and when I want to sleep it I just press the Power button and then the S button to hit the Sleep button. After that, there is no problem with any automatic wake/sleep setting you want to run, because it's open.

There are a few programs that will wake the machine while the lid is closed, but some have found this as the surest way to overheat their machines. The only time you might want to operate when the lid is closed with safety, would be if you attached an external display.
Again, that is only true if it was inside a case. If it was closed and the laptop is out in the open, there should not be an overheat hazard since that is the normal situation when running in lid closed mode. Still, I do not use or recommend those force-wake hacks.

Once nice advantage of MacBooks and MacBook Pros, also seen by iBooks and Powerbooks is that the brightness key will dim the screen all the way down. So you might want to just turn off Energy Saver, leave the lid open, and dim the screen the whole way down, if you need a dark room but still want to backup in the middle of the night.
I used to do this but it isn't necessary. Just hit the shortcut to sleep the screen. (Control Shift Eject on my MBP.) Or use the Exposé preference to set a corner as the "Sleep Display" corner and when you move the mouse there, bam the screen goes dark but the machine is still on. The advantages of these two methods is that you don't have to remember what setting the screen was on before you turned it to zero, and since they take effect instantly, they're faster than leaning on the brightness keys.

  • S205 XP won't stay on standby, can't adjust screen timeout

A couple of weeks ago I bought an S205 without OS and installed my own copy of XP on it (SP3). I spent a long time trying to dual boot with Linux but the UEFI system seems to prevent this... I'm not tech enough to understand why, but I gave up trying after a week tearing my hair out.
Anyway, XP runs nice and quick now but I have 2 problems with it.
1 - When I put the computer in standby mode it wakes itself up sometimes for no reason. This happens even when there are no applications open.
2 - The screen turns itself off after 1 minute. I have installed Lenovo Power Management, and no matter what the settings are in this, the screen ALWAYS turns itself off after 1 minute. Checked in Windows Power settings, but the Lenovo software seems to override these.
Any help or advice much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, this detailed decription of settings  LEM for XP ...
seems that something gave a wakeup order...
be sure that nothing unusual is hidden in startup msconfig ...

  • Help me!!!!!!My iBook 800mhz sometimes can't wake up after  sleep mode...!!

Hi everybody. I'm a happy mac user sinc 2001, and i have since 2004 an ibook G4 800mhz. Ok, everything good, the problem is that from today if i leave the ibook in stop mode for half an hour for exemple it can't wake up, everything seems dead and i have to push the power button for 4 second and then turn the computer on again. If the sleep mode duration is about 5 minutes ok, otherwise it can't wake up. whyy???? what is the problem? i reset pram, nvram and pmu, but nothing. everything else works perfectly, but this is a very important problem for me because i risk to lose my work because i have always to reboot the system.
    Pleas help me!!!
Ps i'm sorry for english, but i'm italian...
    thanks a lot

    annihilator,
    Quoting from my own post:
""It could be a PMU problem. The PMU is actually a tiny computer within the computer. It's official designation is PMU99.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/DeveloperNotes/Macintosh_CPUs-G4/12inchPowerBookG4/2_Architecture/chapter_3_section4.html
    "Power Control IC
The power manager IC in the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is a Mitsubishi M16C/62F microprocessor, also called the PMU99. It operates with its own RAM and ROM. The functions of the PMU99 include:
*controlling the sleep and power on and off sequences<</div>
    *real time clock
*controlling power to the other ICs
    *monitoring the battery charge level
    *controlling battery charging
*supporting the interface to the built-in keyboard (AND TRACK PAD)
The PMU99 also provides the hardware interface to the keyboard. Software in the PMU99 IC scans the keyboard, then sends the data to the system in packets like those from the ADB. To the system, the keyboard behaves as if they were ADB devices""
    Try resetting it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
If that doesn't work try what I call a deep PMU reset.
Pull all power including the battery, push the power button to remove residual charge in soft start capacitors.
Then walk away from it for at least 10 hours.
This has worked for Macs with the PMU99 since the G3 Desktops and especially the G4 Towers (Sawtooth, GI, MD, etc)
    Also:
i had a problem with trackpad that became crazy, but i unmount it from the case i clean it and now it works better than perfecty.
Could you explain this more clearly? You opened up the iBook, then
i unmount it from the case
so you removed the trackpad part itself from the upper case? the trackpad part and associated circuitry? Was it glued to the upper case? in that kind of little well it sits in? But you didn't break the plastic welds that hold the "clicker" part to the upper case?
i clean it and now it works better than perfecty.
    Which part was dirty?

  • Finder Crashes on "Open With" and Can't wake from Sleep

I have a late 2009 Power Mac Quad Core.  I always update the latest OS and Since I updated to the latest OS (whatever animal it is now) I've noticed 2 annoying issues that occure all the time - and none of these posts have been helpful - or I just can't weed through all the noob, rambling posts to find an answer.  If someone can solve this, or point me to the right post, I'll be greatful.
IN THE FINDER - when I right click a file (usually a Quicktime movie), and hover over "Open With" It freezes the finder.  It instantly locks on that option, and sometimes hitting the ESC key quickly will make it go away, but usually just have to force restart finder.  And it's not a rainbow spinner ball it's a blue spinner.
PUT COMPUTER TO SLEEP -  When I set the computer to go to sleep - it can't wake up without a forced reboot.  Mouse wont wake it, key strokes wont wake it. The power button still blue, pulsing on and off.  No reaction from the Computer.  There's lots of issues on this, but no one has solved it for a Pro Mac Tower.
    _thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.  Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I can not wake up my iMac27 remotely

I can not wake up my iMac remotely using LogMeIn ("Wake for network access" turned on,  "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible" turned off, Computer sleep 12 min, Display sleep 10 min in System Preferences and "Wake On LAN" enabled in LogMeIn client). LogMeIn says: the iMac is not turned on or not connected to the internet.
But the iMac is turned on and it is in sleep mode. At the same time Time Capsule is providing the wireless (iPhone) and wired (MacBook Pro connected with cable) internet connection continuously. I have iMac27 (OSX 10.6.7).
When I wake up the iMac (keyboard or mouse) it takes 3-5 sec to connect to the Internet again ("Wake for network access" turned on in System Preferences!). Also I hear "clicking" sound when something turns on in my IMac. I guess it is the hard drive but I should wake up the machine remotely anyway…
Really no idea what I should do to avoid the sequential "re-installation" from scratch on the iMac27. I just simply want to use LogMeIn to connect to my iMac when I am out of home. It worked some time ago… My MacBookPro with the pretty same OSX and programs works fine and I can always wake up MacBookPro remotely with LogMeIn…
    Suggestions? Ideas?
    Many Thanks

I am still struggling with the same problem. My MacBook Pro with the same OSX and programs has no problem to wake up remotely (e.g. connecting from iPhone LogMeIn App) using the same Time Capsule (AirPort Extreme Base Station 802.11n). My iMac27 and MacBook Pro connected to TimeCapsule (AirPort Extreme Base Station 802.11n) via ethernet cables. Also I can wake up my MacBook Pro remotely form a PC laptop using LogMeIn via WiFi. No clue why iMac27 can not wake up remotely... I hardly believe this...

  • Can't wake up Apple TV 2gen via remote app or airplay

    Hello,
Can't wake up my Apple TV 2gen via remote app or AirPlay from my iPhone 3GS or my iPad 2. All devices are on the current IOS version (4.3.1). Wake up with the hardware remote is possible.
The remote app and AirPlay works if the wake up is done with the hardware remote. If I had tried to wake up the apple tv via the remote app or AirPlay the apple tv needs a reboot (unplug power) to work proper with the iPhone or the iPad.
Seems to by a bug in IOS 4.3.1!?
    Any ideas?

no, remote app never supported waking up appletv's
if that will change I can't say but you can let apple know how you feel
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
but mind you putting appletv to sleep don't really safe much in terms of power
and it's connected to the wifi network always

  • Can not wake up normally after sleeping too long

G5 with 23inch cinema LCD, Geforce 6600LE video card
if only sleep within 1 hour, it will wake up normally by moving mouse.
if more than 1 hour, the desktop will show but just last 2 seconds. and the display turns dark for 10 seconds and turns blue for 2 sec. and goes dark and repeat the cycle. finally stays dark.
checked this board. It seems not a single case. Anybody has any idea about this? thx a lot.

I have the same bloody problem. It started with my upgrade to Leopard. Short sleep is ok - wakes up alright. Longer sleep - comes up with black screen and roaring fans. Well done, Apple. Now I cannot and will not upgrade my laptop as a laptop that can't wake from sleep is about worthless.
I have: tried pulling the SystemConfiguration power management file out and restarting - didn't fix it.
I have also cloned my hard drive, erased and reinstalled Leopard, and restored the files and then installed all updates - and now I am back where I started, with black screens and roaring fans after restart (did the same thing before upon safe restart with shift key down, and also on single-user reboot after I started fsck (the roaring fan part, not the black screen). This counts as a major bug.
Other discussions suggested a problem with graphics drivers missing in Leopard, or perhaps unchecking the 'sleep disks when possible' option under the energy saver as a temporary workaround.
    My laptop stays at 10.4.10.

  • Can't wake mini w/ wireless keyboard/mouse!!

My new mini is great, but when it sleeps I can't wake it up! I'm supposed to be able to hit any key or move the mouse to wake it up, but nothing happens. I'm using a Gyration cordless keyboard and mouse. They seem to work fine when the mini's awake, but once it sleeps, there's no way to wake it back up without hooking up a corded keyboard.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA!
    Keith

    Thanks for the replies!
Repeated entries (on any key) don't work. I don't see a power key on the wireless keyboard. Originally, the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" was unchecked, but checking it doesn't seem to have helped (I'm pretty sure the Gyration keyboard & mouse aren't Bluetooth equipment).
The mouse & keyboard share one receiver in a USB port. The Gyration equipment has never successfully awakened the computer, but I've only had it one day. This is also my first day using the peripherals. My wife used them in her classroom and said they were o.k. She no longer needs them, so I figured I'd try them w/ the mini. I'm hoping to find a better solution than unplugging the receiver every time the computer goes to sleep.
    Any more ideas?

  • Can ATV wake up a sleeping imac?

I would like my ATV to wake up my sleeping imac. My config:
    ATV <-> AEX <-> AEBS <-> AEX <-> imac
    Network is 5Ghz 802.11n
    imac runs 10.4.
Under energy preferences I have set "Wake up for administrative ethernet access"
I have also installed "wakonlan" but I don't think it works for me.
Any ideas? I hate to walk upstairs all the time when I want to stream something onto the ATV. On the other hand I don't want to leave the imac on all the time.
    Thanks!

as far as i am aware (and based on other users experiences on here) - no it can't wake up a host PC.
