Sadness

When I first started visiting these forums, it was lots of posts about "How do I do x ?"  and asking for creative advice. And there were lots of people with tons of good information. (Miss you Harm)
Now it seems that most posts are about how things don't work correctly, or that Premiere doesn't  do things like FCP, or Premiere doesn't have (name the feature) and how that is so terrible.
Even in the Lounge the conversations are far more negative than they used to be before CC.
I guess this is a plea for someone to try and get Adobe to wake up. Someone here has to have some sort of connection to someone that can make a change.
Adobe, people are not happy. You are NOT listening to what your customers want, or need. Stop trying to be the other guys. You had an amazing product to begin with.
Please return to your previous business model of making quality software, and providing customers what they actually want. You could continue your CC subscription model, but bring back the perpetual license. So many of us would love to have updated software with new upgrades, but we simply will not rent software. CS6 is plenty for someone like me, and I'm sure many others. I don't have to have the new stuff. Until I can get it through perpetual license, I won't spend any more money with your company. You lose, not me. I have a business that does just fine with what I have, and can get so many other places if needed.
And dropping phone support? That is simply being cheap. Customer service is the ultimate in keeping and growing business.
This may be one of the last times I visit the forums. I have found that lately, I can get the information easier by doing a Google search. And I get to miss out on the negativity.
Thank you again to all of the "Gurus" here on the forums, even those who have spent time arguing against me on some of the posts.    Your wealth of information has been greatly appreciated.
Jason

Alas Jason  I am afraid that your plea to Adobe will be lost for etermity, not because they hear what you say but because they simply do not care.
It is again.........you can have any color you like as long as it is black.
It is take it or leave it.
But, Adobe has not been making quality software, Premier Pro 2, 4 and 6 had many bugs.  They have had a history of releasing buggy software and paying users Beta testing
If you want good quality software then does what it says and a company that presently cares about their users look no further than Edius.
Yes things are negative, that is sad, but if we stop being negative and say how wonderful the CC is then they will not change and CC is hear on its own for good

Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.

  • Serviced ipod comes back with a sad-face icon

I recently had my 4th generation clickwheel ipod serviced, because it had a harddrive issue. iTunes had randomly failed to write a song to the ipod, whereupon the ipod decided it would no longer start correctly, or be recognized by the PC correctly. In the periods of time that the iPod would try to start back up, and while it is connected to the computer, the iPod just whirrs, then clicks and stops, whirrs, clicks and stops, over and over and over again. It was basically overheating while doing this, and thus it was rendered useless. This was the second iPod that I had, as the first one's touch scrollwheel randomly quit.
So after 20 days of this second iPod, i sent it back after a phone call to tech support that made them waive the fee.
So... now I get the iPod back, looks brand new, but I don't think they did anything to it... other than maybe swap out the case. The hard drive keeps clicking and whirring, only NOW... it won't respond at all to being plugged in with it's power adapter or the PC. At all. It just starts up with it's click and whir noises, and then shows me the sad-face icon.
please, nobody tell me to use the ipod updater to restore the ipod, and nobody tell me to try resetting the ipod via the hold switch and then the menu and select buttons. You can trust me that I've tried all the typical ways of making the iPod do what I paid $360.51 to make it do. But no.
What I am curious of, is...
Is there any way to have the iPod get back on it's feet, without sending it back in? I've literally had it for 2 days, waiting to bring it back home so that I could begin putting my music back on it, but when I start it up for the first time, it does this to me, and I can't connect it to the PC. I know that the iPod starts off being mac-formatted, but last time, it would at least TELL me that, and ask me if I wanted to format it for the PC environment.
Is there any self-help hope? Or should I just call tech support (AGAIN coughcough) and become another disgruntled customer?
I'm a patient guy, and I understand that tech gadgets have issues sometimes... but dang. If I in fact service this iPod, I'll be getting my 4th one in hopes that it will work. I'm willing to try some random crap in order to make it work?
Any idea for random crap that I could try?

hehe, yeah, i meant to come back and update the topic with what i'm doing
I called apple tech support line again and went through a normal process to figure out the issue.
    well..
they tell me that i can only use this line once in order to have it serviced, so he's not sure he can do anything since i've already "used" my one service request.
well, i'm all over that. i told him my issue anyway, giving him the dumbed-down version, which is "hey, you sent me a broken ipod" or something like that. so, he's setting up the box the be shipped to me and was going to charge me the $31.50 or whatever, but i threw a dignified fit over that, since, well, it's THEIR problem that they sent me a busted piece of sillyness. anyway, he puts me on hold after waiving the charge, but another guy (a "product specialist") picks up my line and reviews the problem with me.
okay, here's the climax of the story
he tells me that since i've been having so many fatal issues with the ipod that renders the hardware useless, they are going to upgrade me to an updated model.
I was happy, but i was thinking that they were going to send me on my way with a 40gb or something.
    nope.
    (it's better than that)
he told me that since they don't make the model that i currently have, they're going to send me a 20gb photo ipod as the replacement product.
had he been standing in front of me i would have tried to hug him or something!
so, my efforts have been muchly worth it, though, there's a bit more of a process you have to go through. the tech asks for your info, like address, email, yada yada, and he gives you a case number. then, 2 or 3 days later i got an email containing a link for an online shipping label that i had to print and slap onto an old service box. i had to send the ipod to them, but then call back the rep and give him my case number and tracking number. i'm currently awaiting some sort of confirmation over the issue, but he's told me earlier that once they confirm that the ipod is contained in the package and that it is in fact on it's way, they'll have the apple store ship me a brand new packaged 20gb photo ipod.
if at first you don't succeed, try try again. and again. and again. and one more time for good measure.

  • Possible Solution to Frozen iPod, iTunes not responding and sad folder

There may be hope for frozen iPods, unresponsive iTunes and sad folders. This solution is totally anecdotal at this point as it only has worked on my iPod. However, try it you got nothing to lose. Our iPods broken right? It's a $300 paper weight right?
    History
My iPod 4G 20GB started skipping songs then rebooted and gave me the sad folder. I reset and everything went downhill from there. I would:
    - not be recognized in My Computer
-when I did get a drive on My Computer it would lock up My Computer
-reboot and either give me sad folder or Menu with no songs
    -refuse to be updated
-be seen in Device Manager as ipod both with Firewire and USB connections
I read through the many threads here and tried all Apple's Solutions to no avail. I even called and they told me, very nicely and free of charge, that I would have to send it in and because the repair price was such to "look at the new models to see which one I wold like". I was totally bummed. I went and bought an new Nano 4GB (with warranty this time) swearing I would never buy another with a HDD again until they became more reliable. I even tried the smack it to get the disk head unstuck method. I figure my iPod was a paper weight at this point so what the ****.(Oddly this method works rather well with all sorts of broken electronics)
    Solution
Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.

My ipod only gets the sad logo and whenever I try to start it up I can hear the hard drive trying to start and then failing and it does so like 3 or 4 times. After I read your post I wanted to try that diagnostic thing but I can't get it into that mode. How long should I have to hold select and back? After I reset the ipod, it goes to the sad face, the hard drive seems to fail a few times and then the screen goes blank and stays like that for as long as I hold those buttons. I'm so sick and tired of dealing with a broken ipod but I really want to get this thing working again so I can never buy another Apple product again. Thanks.

  • Flashing Question Mark & Sad Apple Logo

I had my Mac for quite some time and everything seem to be going well until yesterday, when I pressed the power key all it showed was a white screen and the apple logo, I had called Tech and they said i was out of warrenty, but informed me that it would best to load the Mac OS X cd when I loaded and reached the select a destination part I saw my hard drive with an explanation point. she stated this was bad and that i would need to compeltely whipe the hard drive which didnt bother me. I went to Disk Utilities and chose my hards drive clicked options and choose to zero all data, also clicked download OS 9 drives. After waiting for about an hr it was completed, and i gave it a volume and went on with the installation i choose the volume and all seemed well. yet, after the computer rebooted and all i saw was a Flashing Question Mark & Sad Apple Logo. not quite sure what this means but checked other threads and followed some of the advised given to repair this, yet for me it doesn't work, as of now i tried erasing all data again but now it seems i can't set a volume. Not 100% percent sure which OS cd i have i will double check and reply later, I have a powerbook G4. any help would be great.
      Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi Richard,
I was hoping you'd respond Thanks to the link to S.M.A.R.T reporter, but things have deteriorated since my last post and now it won't boot up at all.
I hit the power button, hear the start-up chime, then nothing but eerie silence and a gray screen.
The lack of noise usually created by a HD spinning up should be obvious that this is indeed a hard drive issue, but I want to make sure I can sound intelligent when throw myself at the guy who replaced the drive.
I tried booting from a 10.3 install cd (holding down 'c' at startup) to run Disc Utility but it won't even do that. I can hear the cd-rom spinning, reading the disc, but after a while it just gives up. In fact, I think if I listen hard enough, I can hear the faintest sound of mocking laughter....
Is this painfully, obviously, a hard drive gone bad?
It's not the end of the world, just very aggravating.

how can i purchase a macbook air in Nigeria? apple has no shop in the entire country and independent dealers charge ridiculously sometimes more than double the prices of mac products without guarantee of getting it with required specifications. its sad cos Nigeria has a very large apple market plus phones and most recently ipads especially. its been frustrating trying to get a macbook, even have to wait for when someone will travel out of the country, then you send the person(thats if you have the money at that time). Please somebody help inform apple maybe they can do something about this, its really disappointing.

  • IPod Photo 60GB goes from sad icon to no reaction at all

After getting the sad icon after plugging it in, I took apart the iPod so I could reseat the hard drive and see what happens. I still got the sad icon (yes, sometimes re-seating the hard drive brings it back to life, based on my experiences), so I wanted to try again and put pressure on the center of the hard drive platters with my thumb.
In doing so, I accidentally disconnected the molex connector to the hold-switch. I forgot the state of the hold switch when this happened.
I put everything back together to see what will happen when I plug in the sync/power cable.
There's no reaction and no Apple logo.
How can I bring back the iPod at least back to the sad-icon state?
    Thanks for reading.

I believe you broke the iPod completely, but have a read of the following and see if it helps
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=501330&tstart=0
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2364921&#2364921
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
    http://www.ifixit.com/
    http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/g4-ipod-parts.html
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

I have a problem with my Iphone 4s since I did my first update at your Itunes, the bluetooth and the WiFi it is not workinhg anymore.
It is sad that companies like apple are not able to support thier sofware and business.
I went to a apple store at South Park, Charlotte NC,
and found out the worst customer service (in my case)
They don't have answers and don't understand about  "dont let any customer go away sad or mad"
I explain to them that I did everything they said to fix the problem, even to dounload the iOS 6.1.3
that was supposed to fix the problem.
they said fix the problem in other phones but not in mine.
So here I am with no wifi and bluetooth, with apple technicians and experts that don't know what to do with the problem that the sofware they developed cause in my iphone 4s.
and the solution is for me to pay $199.00 US dollars for a problem that I did not cause.
wich means to buy something else from apple to fix a problem that it is not my fault.
    Great! what a convenient solution.
I would like to have an answer from you guys and see if someone there have a better answer for me that shows support, values and integrity as a grest company with solutions for your customers.
Dont think that I want a new phone, I want mine fixed if is possible.
Thank you very much and God Bless you!

Apple isnt here. this is a user based forum for technical questions. The solution is to restart, reset, and restore as new which is in the manual after that get it replaced for hard ware failure. if your within your one year warranty its replaced if it is out of the warranty then it is 199$

  • 5th gen iPod freezes when play iTunes video, then sad icon, then normal

I tried to watch some Tv shows I downloaded from iTunes and sometimes it would play. Then the next time I select the video it freezes to a black screen. Sometimes I can press "menu" and return it the the main screen. But if I select the video again, it freezes completely on the black screen. I do a "reset" and then I get the sad face icon. I plug it into the computer and it says it is corrupted. If I leave it alone plugged into the computer, it tries to start itself about every 15 mins and the sad face icon appears. If I wait awhile more, it will restart itself, connect to iTunes, and be back to normal. As long as I don't play a video. I don't see any posts with a similar issue. Anyone have a clue?
    5th Generation iPod

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Right click the video in iTunes and go to convert selection for iPod. Does it convert again (through iTunes)?
If so, update the iPod and see if it works.
    If not, try these...

    Restore the iPod

  • SP ADD. DUTY (4%) SAD   is not catching at the time of PO creation

    Hi
I have noticed that the 16% CVD amount, 4% Add, custom duty, 2% Educat is inventorised in  the case of Imported material.  Actually CVD is modvatable item    hence this should not be include in the inventory cost.
Below is the table of total import duty structure on which we have mentioned the modvatble item separately.
        1    INV. VALUE IN $ USD              7846.00
       2    EXCHANGE RATE                       39.70
       6    CIF(Rs)                                311486.20
       7    ***. VALUE                        314601.06
       8     BASIC DUTY (10%)               31460.11
       9     CVD (16%)                            55369.79      modvatable
    10 ED CESS ONCVD (2%)             1107.396       modvatable
    11 SEC EDU.CESS ON CVD(1%)    553.70          modvatable
    12 CUS. EDU. CESS (2%)             1769.82
    13  CUSTOM SEC. EDU.CESS (1%) 884.91
14  SP ADD. DUTY (4%) SAD       16229.87113   modvatable
    15   TOTAL DUTY                        107375.59
Here, I have Maintained Tax code in FTXP, condition record in FV11, Acc keys, conition types. But when I try to create a PO all are catching except SP ADD. DUTY (4%) SAD. Pleas tell me what might be the wrong.
    Regards
    venkat

    hi Venkat,
If the PO is import PO then u should use tax code as V0 (0% tax) and you should have differnt import pricing procedure for that and maintain the rates in the condition tab directly.
please check out ur pricing procedure used for import purchase.
    regards,

  • GRRRR!!!!!! Forget "Sad iPod" how about "Angry Me"!

I have had my iPod for nearly 6 months now and I have had almost all the problems possible for an iPod photo
But NOW I have had all of the problems...
Now my iPod is not recognized by windows or iTunes However when I plug my iPod into my PC it makes the little buh-ding sound meaning Windows has detected new hardware but it still does not show up i anywhere on my PC
I have already read the all the articles Apple has put up (with all of it's stupid ideas)...
I use USB and I will not buy a Firewire card as my computer is very unique and only accepts special sizes and kinds of cards and it is no longer supported even by its manufacturer (So please do not post "get a firewire card")...
Please help me as I have had the "folder exclamation point" error and the "sad iPod" error many times and all the others at least three times each
PLEASE if any of you more experienced iPodders have any suggestions I would appreciate it if you would reply
    Thank You In Advance

iPod Photo 30GB, IBM PC (netvista... don't get confused no one has heard of this)   Windows XP Pro   USB Ports that are working JUST FINE!

I can understand your frustration and knowing that you have already tried all the ideas from the Apple's articles.I am not a techicine but I have managed to fix around 10 iPods (from friends and family members) which had the error of "Sad iPod" or "folder with exclamation mark". The successful ratio is higher than 80%. In my opinion, ipod shows a sad iPod or folder icons - either it has a corrupted software or its head of the hard disk get stuck at a certain point. Unless it is a dead hard disk, there is still a way to solve it. The following are my suggestions, please try one at a time.
    A. The simple way is do a Reset and a Restore - of course, I understand that at this stage, most iPods would not get recognized by the computer. However, please try plug and unplug it few times or even try a different port, out of sudden, the iPod will get mount and allow the user to do the Restore.
    B. Let iPod's battery drain
In rare cases, iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. If iPod didn't turn on after you reset it, follow these steps:
Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or computer and reset it.
    C. My preference - find a Mac computer to fix up the PC formatted iPod or vice versa. When connecting the iPod with a different kind of computer, it is likely to get force mounted with the computer. Do a Restore there (or I prefer to reformat the iPod then open the iPod updater for doing the Restore). Once it has being completed, replug your iPod back with the your computer and redo the Restore back to the original version. Please remember that you may need to do few attempts to get it done. If you have a problem to find a Mac computer, go to the nearest Apple Shop, and ask them a favour for doing the Restore for you.
If the above still can't solve the problem, and you do not want to send it for repairing, or you do not want to pay the service fee as your iPod is no longer covered with the warranty. Then please think carefully whether you want to go for the last esort - but do it at your own risk - which works in my case but does not mean it works in your case as well, or it will put your iPod even worse.
    D. Drop your iPod from the waist height to the carpetted floor, there are few cases being reported in this forum that the iPod get solved in this way. But again, I agree that people may not report in case it failed.

  • Did not listen to 'do not disconnect' and now there's a noise and a sad ipo

It all started when I was in a hurry and ejected my ipod from itunes. As usual, it was removed from the Source list but my ipod still said 'do not disconnect.' I unplugged it and left. Hours later I was at my friends house and plugged it into her laptop to get some of her songs. It wasn't recognized in her Source list and it started to make weird, loud, grinding noises. I reset it and the sad ipod face guy came up. I went to the support page and it said to fully charge it before anything else. So, all last night I charged it and it continued to make that horrible noise all night. I went back to the 5 R's and tried all of them. I finally went to restore it but it's showing that icon that means that it isn't charged enough for the computer to recognize it. Similarily, the ipod updater keeps asking me to plug in an ipod, even though it's plugged in. Now, every couple of minutes, as my ipod is plugged in to my comp via USB, the apple icon shows up, it makes that noise and then the sad guy pops up. What should I do? (I apologize for the length but there's just so much going on with this.)

Strange noises are a telltale sign of hardware failure. If you want to be totally sure that your iPod is a baddie, reset your iPod, and when the apple logo is showing, press and hold the rewind and clicker buttons for several seconds. When you do this, the iPod should "chirp" and the apple will reverse. Now it's in diagnostic mode. After doing this, try to run the automatic tests. (note that when in this mode, the trackpad doesn't work, you have to use the rewind and fast forward buttons to go back and forth). Have iPod plugged in when doing this. If you end up with a sad iPod icon, then it needs to be sent in...

  • 30 GB video sad face/"freezing" it's getting annoying ~HELP~!

    Hi all,
I've been having this problem for about 2 weeks now. My iPod, which decided to kindly go corrupt the day after the warranty ran out, has been greeting me with the dreaded sad face. It only appears whenever it hasn't been turned on for a while ~ a day or so. If I turn it off, then on again in a few hours, it starts up just fine. Additionally, it occasionally freezes between songs, sometimes even in the middle of songs. The duration of the time it is frozen varies, but is usually between 10 - 30 sec. When I say freeze, I mean the music does not play. I can still adjust the volume, backlight, and alternate between date & time and 'now playing'. There is no clicking when frozen but there is when the song actually starts to play. I have noticed that it works much better whenever I let it flow between songs, rather than skip ahead. This occurs not very frequently at all and then sometimes all of the time. Very annoying when working out, doing homework, etc.
I tried the 5R's, ran diagonistic mode (I don't really have a clue what I'm looking at when I run it though), and (I think) un-synced all of my recently added songs... I can enter disk mode and it is still totally recognized by my computer. I feel like it is a corrupt file issue, not my hard drive. I have done nothing to damage my ipod, i baby it like it is my first born.
The only possible thing I can think of is that perhaps it got overheated? I take it to the beach a lot, but am extra careful to prevent water damage.
I had a Mini when they first came out and loved that thing to death, I don't want the same thing to happen to my Video after little over a year... I fear it will eventually kick the bucket. Help?
    Thanks!

i had this same problem with my 20 gb photo. since the warranty was already over, i just decided to take it apart and try to fix it myself. it turns out that the hard drive wire just needed to be moved around a little bit. but that was it. i haven't had the problem since. I'm not sure if it works the same with the videos but it should be similiar.

  • Hp Blue Screen sad face Unmountable Boot Volume and Automatic reoair loop error

Someone Please help.I have an hp laptop that refuses to work. The screen stays on the automatic repair screen until it fades to black.I have tried to do a system recovery with f11, but all it does is bring up the blue screen with a sad face for a few seconds before resetting back to the auto repair screen again. Before resetting, it said that I had an unmountable boot volumeon the blue screen.(had to take picture because it cuts off before showing me the full error message.)
    here are my computer specs:
    Hp pavilion g7-2269wm
    AMD Qaud-Core A8-4500M Accelerated Processor
    500BG Hard Drive
    6144MB DDR3 SDRAM
Windows 8(Don't remember if i upgraded to windows 8.1 before problem)
Also purchased hp recovery cds, but even after trying to boot from recovery cd, it stays on a black screen.

The hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance  you have a 500GB hdd so you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

  • Sad faced Ipod error message (click wheel ipod classic)

I've had the sad faced ipod error message with my ipod before and forcing into disk mode has always solved it before.
It's not showing up in itunes or my computer when I connect it to my laptop.
I have tried forcing it into disk mode time and time again and about one time out 40 it will go into disk mode. The problem comes when I then plug into the computer to restore it. It will start telling me do not disconnect then give me the error message of a battery with little power left.
It is definatly charged because I have been trying to get it into disk mode all day and on the occasions I've managed to get there it will tell me i have 3quarters or so battery remaining. However when I am plugging it into the docking station it isnt coming up to say its charging it just goes over and over with the apple logo then the sad faced ipod message.
I have tried 4 different usb cables and 2 different chargers.
Its driving me mad and any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont want my ipod to be dead.

I have been using that page, I was hoping that as id managed to get it into disk mode a few times that it might not be a harware issue.
Its about 2 years out of warrenty so a service will probably cost the same as a new one
