Safari 4.0.5 on Tiger 10.4.11 crashes frequently. Needs several relaunc

Looks like I'm having a similar problem. It hasn't been happening nearly as long - 2 or 3 days - but Safari is just disappearing when I try to do things like download files from a website.
Here is the most recent crash report (in 2 posts, I think):

the discrepancy in platforms is because I'm on my mother-in-law's computer, trying to help. My macbook is running smoothly.
Ok.. making more sense now.
You didn't really abuse anything it's just that when you post at the bottom of someone else's thread, not many users are likely to see it to offer you help. If you post your own topic, your topic will get the attention you deserve.
Since we're already working on the font issue, hold off starting a new topic this time but use those instructions for a new topic in the future
Try this for the Fonts. Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.fontbook.plist file to the Trash. That's in her home folder.
Relaunch Safari. If that didn't help, go to /Library/Caches and move the com.ATS folder to the Trash. You may be prompted for the admin password. Restart the Mac and try Safari.
If that doesn't help, definitely check out the link for Mac OS X font management I posted previously.

  • Getting Safari To Work/OS X Tiger

Hi, I use a Mac G4; run MacOS 9.2.2 and Tiger 10.4.9. I liked the way Internet Explorer 5.1.7 worked whenever you wanted to download files. I liked the contexual menu in IE 5.1.7, that allowed you to 'Download Link To Disk,' and 'Download Image to Disk.'
For the life of me, I cannot get Safari (Tiger 10.4.9) to do the above mentioned functions found in IE 5.1.7. I can't even download mpeg and jpeg files while using Safari.
I must be doing something wrong while using Safari.
Internet Explorer for OS X seems to crash as not to. That's why I want to use the more stable Safari. Any suggestions?
    Angel

The easiest way to get a jpeg off a web site is to just click on it, hold down the mouse button and drag it to your Desktop. If you right click/control click on an image you'll get a drop down menu with several options, including one to save the image to your default download location.
If you have a movie playing in the Quicktime Player in the Safari window there can be a problem getting the Save option to appear from the drop down menu there (unless you have Quicktime Pro). The easy work around is to go to the Safari menu item Window, select Activity and find the URL for the movie and then hold down the Option key and double click the URL. It will download the item to your default download location. Or you can Option double click on the link to the movie in the web page that points to the movie, if one is available.

  • Safari is officially dead on tiger

Well. after searching a lot of forums, and trying everything I can find , I am ready to declare that Apple has broken Safari as far as use on 10.4.11 is concerned. I have 5 older Macs that could not upgrade to 10.5. I am using the latest issue of Safari for Tiger on all of them and have installed all the updates that Apple had for those machines. Safari crashes every time on all of them. You can start it once, go to one or two web sites, and then stop it and it is okay. But try and rally use it and it becomes more and more unstable until it will after about 10 web sites, stop going to new links, and then you have to force quit it. You cannot even go to Safari, Quit Safari on the top menu bar. I will hang trying to quit itself. Going to force quit and quiting the Safari (not responding) is the only way to get it to stop.
This all started when the version of Safari just 1 older for Tiger would not longer allow you to check your e-mail on Mobile Me. You could log in but as it started to show the mail browser it would hang and never show the messages. Updating fixed that so I did it to all the older 10.4.11 machines. Now that is all you can do with Safari in a reliable fashion.
Thank god for Firefox. It has reluctantly become my browser of necessity on all 10.4.11 machines. Safari for 10.5 works great on all my other 6 machines using 10.5.x Wish it would still work on 10.4.11. I miss it.

What is cocktail. What are maintence scripts?
    Hello,
Cocktail is a maintenance program for Mac OS X.
Though I myself don't use it, I use Socks from MKD software: http://www.mkdsoftware.com/socks/
I've run nearly every maintenance program out there not nearly as successfully as Socks.
I recommend you look into a maintenance program for your Mac OS X system. All systems need a bit of maintenance here and there.
Caches all sorts need cleaning periodically, permissions need repairing, and other maintenance scripts should be run to optimize system performance and keep errors to a minimum.

  • Safari 3.1.2 for Tiger

*Hello we are back on the same old problem*
Its a shame that us Apple Mac Customers who use the stand-alone-download-option for Safari 3.1.2 for Tiger (via a PC have to come and politely beg the kind help of other forum users to kindly use their expertise and locate the Tiger version and not the windows version that keeps cropping up - due to the browser setting apple have applied !!)
Could some kind person please post me a link to the tiger version (that wont turn in to a windows version)
Many thanks in advance, a lovely green star awaits you !

I really don't know if this will work for you on a Windows machine, but it is downloading the Tiger version for me on a Leopard machine, so may be worth a try …
    Safari for Tiger
EDIT it doesn't appear to like that direct link, but redirects to another short page offering me a choice between Tiger and Leopard versions again. See what it does for you—hopefully it won't enforce a Windows solution again!

safari 8.0.2 wont open just says it quit unexpectedly. tried several times

If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

IPad 1 Safari crashes frequently. I went to many Apple stores in different countries and each Apple staff member had their own different opinions with no help. I had upgraded my iOS to 5.1.1 and the Safari crashing started about one year after the upgrade and some Apple staff blame this- but this started one year later after the iOS upgrade. Recently at the Apple Store in Vancouver an Apple staff reset my computer (erased everything and sent to iCloud to reset the iPad) and I hoped this would fix the problem. IPad Safari still crashes. Short of booking an appointment for taking it for repair to Apple technicians which will cost me money can anyone help me to fix this Safari crashing.

    Hi,
You might have a 3rd party plugin that isn't compatible with Safari 4.0.4. Go here for help...
Safari add-ons can cause performance issues or other situations
If you are using a USB hub, try disconnecting and restarting with just your keyboard and mouse connected.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Mac OS: Web Browser Quits Unexpectedly or Stops Responding
Also, you could download and install the 10.5.8 combo update (PowerPC) available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
It contains fixes that might help. Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Flashback - Detect and remove the uprising Mac OS X Trojan...
    http://www.mac-and-i.net/2012/04/flashback-detect-and-remove-uprising.html
In order to avoid detection, the installer will first look for the presence of some antivirus tools and other utilities that might be present on a power user's system, which according to F-Secure include the following:
    /Library/Little Snitch
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
    /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.app
    /Applications/iAntiVirus/iAntiVirus.app
    /Applications/avast!.app
    /Applications/ClamXav.app
    /Applications/HTTPScoop.app
    /Applications/Packet Peeper.app
If these tools are found, then the malware deletes itself in an attempt to prevent detection by those who have the means and capability to do so. Many malware programs use this behavior, as was seen in others such as the Tsunami malware bot.

  • I foolishly installed Kaspersky, then Safari 4.0.5 crashed, deleted safari downloaded from disc, but now won't open saying i need osx 10.0 or higher. i am running 10.6.7!

How do I repair Safari 4.0.3, 4.0.4 or 4.0.5 after installing Kaspersky AV?  I WAS running 4 or 5..don't recall..
After installing Kaspersky, Safari would crash immediately. I deleted all versions of Safari on my iMac, downloaded and tried to install Safari again.. I kept getting a message saying I needed OSX 10.0 or higher! I'm on a iMac OS X 10.6.7!
I was able to copy Safari 4.0.3 from my disc from when I purchased the computer, but it won't allow me to update at all to a higher version, stating the same reason!
    How do I fix this?

    HI,
    Code Type: X86-64 (Native)
Try running Safari in 32-bit mode.
Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. *Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

The FamilyControls may be a Microsoft issue which could be why you are having problems with PowerPoint. You may need to update or upgrade your PowerPoint 2008 software to be compatible with 10.6.3. Check the Microsoft site.

You need to upgrade OS X.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

I am running Safari 5.1.7 on 10.6.8 and experiencing frequent freezes and crashes, how do I solve this problem?
    Hal Harris

The best way is to post the crash log next time it crashes. That will contain specific information that will help find the problem. Logs are cryptic but there are people here who can make some sense of them.
I'm running 5.1.7 under 10.6.8 on both my iMac and MacBook Pro and it is completely stable. However I have no extensions installed. Incompatible extensions are a common source of Safari instability

You could try to delete your plugins first and then try this.
First I Reset Safari, then close Safari then navigate to:
Home/Library/Preferences and look for and then remove
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    Also:
Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
    history.plist
    lastsession.plist
    And
Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the contents of that folder.
(These are just  webhistory files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
They will all be recreated next time you launch Safari.

  • After updating to iOS 8 the iPad Air is getting crashed frequently including safari

After updating to iOS 8 the iPad Air is getting crashed frequently including safari.

Have you tried to reset it? Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and see if that helps.
You may need to restore your iPad. That's where you back it up, then restore it to factory defaults, then put your backup back on so you don't lose any data. Sometimes a fresh start clears out any glitches and can help.

  • Safari 8.0.2 will not launch after a crash

Safari quit unexpectedly (when I tried to download a photo app), got pop up window asking me to select restart which I tried and it just keeps popping back up and won't restart.  Tried the "hold down the shift key" and nothing.  I've restarted and it gives me the same window.  Anyone know how I can get my safari to restart?
I've got Yosemite 10.10.1 and my Safari is 8.0.2
    Any suggestions?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • Safari crashing frequently on new Intel MacBook-

My wife recently got a new Intel MacBook to replace her old G3 iBook. We used the setup/migration assistant to move her files and settings onto the new computer. Everything has been working beautifully with the exception of Safari.
Safari is crashing frequently. The crashes seem to be especially trigged by forum/discussion-board pages. I’ve read through these forums and tried all of the following with no success:
    -- Reset Safari
-- Deleted the Safari preference file.
-- Run all of the system updates.
-- Created a new user account and tried Safari from there.
-- Used Disk Utility to repair permissions.
-- Deleted the Cookies and Cache files in the User Library directory.
-- Attempted to run the 10.4.6 Combo update. (The MacBook won’t let us install it, claiming “This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.” )
-- Used the provided OSX install disks to “upgrade” re-install the system.
...and still no luck. I assume that something bad must have been carried over or introduced with the setup/migration process.
We really, really hope not to have to start everything over from scratch with a complete clean install of OS X. Perhaps someone who understands the crash reports can make some sense out of this and give us some leads on what to try next: (click on links to see several of these crash reports)

The most frequent cause of Safari crashes in the new
intel systems has been Plug-ins that are not
Universal, i.e. not written for the Intel chip. Have
a look in either your Main or User Library>Internet
Plug-in folder for the possible culprit(s).
    Thanks for the quick response!
Actually, we had already tried moving the Internet Plug-Ins plug-in folder to the desktop. (Sorry - I had forgotten to include that in my "things tried" list above.) That didn't seem to fix anything - but we'll try it again. I'll list the items in the plug-in folder in a while.
