Safari and Cahoot online bank (UK)

Safari has recently stopped working with an online bank in the UK. The bank is called Cahoot
There is a forum thread on the UK MacUser site which includes responses from Cahoot. One of which reads as follows.
Quote:
The system which ensures that the characters you choose from the drop down box on the log in page are hidden is implemented using Javascript. This is a scripting system that is part of the web browser software.
We know that these scripts work properly with the two browsers that we formally support i.e. Internet Explorer and Netscape. Although we don't formally support it, we understand that Firefox 1.0 works fine too.
We do not currently support or test with the Safari browser but we understand that there may be some problems with its implementation of Javascript.
We know that Safari is the standard browser on newer Macs and as its popularity increases we will review the situation to see whether we should add it to the list of browsers that we support.
Does anyone here know if there's any truth in this? If not, I'd love some ammunition to throw back at Cahoot?

As promised, here's the text of the response I eventually received from Cahoot.
Dear Mr Choudhuri,
Thank you for contacting cahoot.
I can confirm that we have recently upgraded the log in page on our website so that the letters from your password are hidden with an asterix. This has resulted in problems with the Safari browser as the settings applied to it will not allow you past the password entry section. This is due to a scripting system that is part of the web browser software.

In the meantime our recommendation is that you use a different browser to access the cahoot site. Whilst we support it, we're reluctant to recommend that you use IE version 5.5 for the Mac. Instead we recommend that you consider Firefox Version 1.0 which we are likely to be adding to our list of supported browsers in the near future because of its popularity. This is a modern standards-compliant browser which is available free of charge in a version for the Mac. It is available for download here http://www.mozilla.org
We're sorry that we've not been able to resolve the issue with your Safari browser.
If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Kind regards,
Mike Greer,
cahoot
And here's what I sent back which, as yet, has gone unanswered:
Dear cahoot
Firstly, thank you for the more considered and informed response.
I'm interested in your statement:

Did you do any user testing? As a web based company, you surely cannot be unaware of the resurgence Apple is enjoying in the market place. You acknowledge that in your comment >>We know that Safari is the standard browser on newer Macs and as its popularity increases...<<. Safari users will be a small percentage of your users, but I'm pretty certain that percentage is growing. Our own web stats show that, and the various broswers check sites and market research companies echo that finding. Does it make good business sense to alienate customers, when there are plenty of banking and finance sites that achieve safe, secure login without locking out any particular browser (lloydstsb, natwest, amex, IF, barclaycard, etc - and that's just in the UK).
I'd urge you to reconsider your decision to effectively ignore a subset of your customers. Let's face it, I work in IT and I know full well that
<div class="jive-quote">we will review the situation to see whether we should add it to the list of browsers that we support.<<</div>
is a euphemism for "we're doing nothing about it until we're forced to"!
I don't want to change banks; it's a hassle and I've been quite happy with the service I've received from cahoot. However, I'm not about to let any bank dictate my choice of browser, especially when there's no good reason for it.
Regards
Rory

  • Safari and Turbotax Online CAN'T PRINT TAX RETURN

    I'm using:
    Mac OS 10.4.3
    Safari 2.0
and online Turbotax, and when went to try printing tax return, it says it's a .pdf file type, and it pops up a window showing PREVIEW AND PRINT, but no print button. It says "if having problems and won't download go to adobe site for help". I tried the site and Safari's file/print, and "save as" and it only shows the first page of tax return. Details: on the website page to print, there is a window inside the window showing whole tax return in inner window with scroll bars to right. But whatever is showing when not scrolling thru, and try to hit file/print from Safari top menu, is what shows on printout...ie: only ONE page of whatever's in the innermost window. The turbotax persons are NO help, so tho't I'd try this wonderful MAC HELP site to see if anyone else has any suggestions. The adobe site said the following, all of which I tried and nothing worked:
    -deinstall/reinstall adobe reader
-remove pdf plugin (sys prefs/quicktime/advanced/MIME settings/images/choose down arrow and UNCHECK "pdf image")
..the tho't here was to be able to make webpage download to desktop, which it never has yet, even with all turned off and even during the time I uninstalled adobe and all related files.
..so far the only thing I can come up with (which I don't like as a Mac-addict)is go to work and use a PC(ugh)to download my copy of my tax return.

After a long search I FOUND THE ANSWER to being able to see this PDF file in the ONLINE Turbotax site to be able to PRINT my tax return. Here is HELP for anyone else who has this problem. NOTE: This is for Mac OS 10.3 or Later. I'm also using Safari 2.0, so not sure if other's using earlier vs will work- read the README file below re this different PDF plugin.
    ------------HOWTO:
Turbotax not PRINT - PDF files inside web browser not show up
(Not in Safari nor Firefox, nor Netscape) ..how to fix: (For Mac 10.3 or later)
    1) Go to this website:
    http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/OSX.html
and under "PluginDoc" click on "MacOS X"
2)Under "Mozilla Plugin Support on MacOS X" click on "Adobe Reader"
3)The above says to delete the Adobe Reader plugin. It may be found in a couple of places, so the best way to find is when on desktop and the FINDER is showing in top menu, do a FILE/FIND and type in to SEARCH for AdobePDFViewer.plugin then DELETE it.
4)go to the following page and download the following plugin which works for Netscape or Safari:
    http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/
On the above page on the upper right you see the link to DOWNLOAD NOW- the download is called:
    "PDF Browser Plugin 2.2.3"
5)IMPORTANT: the README file found after clicking on the download("pdf-plugin-223.dmg") to install, tells some important info as follows:
If Adobe Reader 7 or the QuickTime plug-in are set to handle PDF documents, they will override the PDF Browser Plugin. Turn off the display of PDF documents by these applications.
    Adobe Reader 7:
Open the Adobe Reader 7 preferences with the command Adobe Reader->Preferences, select the "Internet" section of the preferences dialog, and turn off(by unchecking box) "Display PDF in browser using: Adobe Reader 7".
    QuickTime:
With the QuickTime plug-in you are only able to see the first page of a PDF document. If you encounter this problem, open System Preferences, go to the QuickTime preferences pane, click in "MIME settings…" in the Plug-In pane, and make sure that under "Images - Still image files" "PDF Image" is turned off (by unchecking box next to it).
--Continue to follow the INSTALLATION in the README file for this "PDF Browser Plugin."
6)After following the above directions, I closed and reopened my browser and went to the page to print my tax return, and a window for this new plugin opened which asked to either register, or choose SINGLE USE ONLY, as it's free for this purpose, so check near that box, then this GREAT PDF VIEWER opened inside safari and I clicked on it's new print button (the PFD viewer icon)and it PRINTED WHOLE TAX RETURN! HORRAH! Hope this helps someone else!

  • Safari issues with online banking

my bank tells me that the issues with online banking are a Safari issue.

Feel free to read my thread here:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/18057998#18057998

  • Can I use Safari and Firefox on the same Macbook Pro?

Can I use both Safari and Firefox simultaneously? I like Safari but my online banking requires Firefox.

    Hi Seunarine
Unfortunately I cannot explain why your User Agent selections are greyed out. Please start a new Discussion since this one is so old and few people will see it. Perhaps someone else will be able to help. Thanks!

  • Multi WAN connection Session with Online Banking loses the connection

    Hello,
I configured a new RV016 with ADSL ports and tested basicly the function. Everything seems to be working until one person discribed me an error while he tries to establish an online banking connection. After he enters the credentials and klick to OK, the step verifying should follow, an error message appears:
    In german:
Ihre InternetBanking-Sitzung wurde aus Sicherheitsgründen beendet.
    Folgende Gründe können vorliegen:
Sie haben zu lange keine Eingaben vorgenommen.
Ihre Internet-Verbindung wurde vorzeitig beendet. Dies kann durch zu niedrig eingestellte Zeitlimite
    bei DSL-Routern oder Internet-Verbindungs-Tools auftreten.
    In English
Your Internatbanking is due to security reason terminated.
You have not done any enties for a long time
Your Internet connection was terminated prematurely. This can happen if idle time configuration on the DSL router is set to low.
A friend of me who is Firewall specialist told me that the router with multi WAN Ports and configured with load balancing automatically has these kind of problems as the packages will forwarded through multiple WAN ports and the online banking understands it as disruption of the connection.
I set the keep connection to 5 sec and to the WAN Ports to intelegence balancer or IP groups (but not configured) , nothing solved the problem.
Can anybody give me some advises or help me to solve this problem?
    many thanks and best regards
    Nevzat

Sorry, but I have the exact same problem.  It is not a problem with Battlefield's servers as it is actually affecting all online games...and it is not affecting 15-20 neighbors who are FIOS customers.  When a neighbor hosts a game online, only my connection fails.  When I host a game, it fails for everyone.  When I am not in the party, nobody has a problem
I have FIOS connected to the router via coaxial cable.  I've had FIOS for 6 years without a single problem.  Then 1 month ago my kids reported that when playing Xbox Live they are "lagging out" and having to turn the xbox on/off.  The Xbox is connected via CAT5.  Also, when a laptop, iphone or ipad are connected via wifi, the connection is lost and a reboot of the device is required.  I did factory resets and every other suggested step to no avail.  Through it all, my desktop that is connected to the router via CAT5 experienced no problems.
I contacted VZ several times and they sent a new router.  Things looked better for 1 day, now it's actually worse.  The problems now affect the desktop's connection.  Sporadically, all internet connectivity is lost.  I then have to reboot the router.  However, after rebooting the router, any device trying to connect to the internet, via CAT5 or wifi, gets an "invalid IP address" type of error message.  I have screenshots at home which I'll add later.
Extremely frustrating, esp when contacting customer service as they go through the same script - reboot router, send a signal.  Factory reset modem, send a signal.  After that, they have no suggestions and simply try to get you off the line

  • Computer update affecting login to online banking in Firefox and Safari

Updated Macbook Pro, now not able to login to Chase.com. Error="Page isn't redirecting properly. Server redirecting request in a way that will never complete." Cookies are enabled, as is Accept Third Party Cookies. Multiple restarts to computer/Firefox so far. Cleared cookies, history, cache. Thoughts? I also tried to get to my online banking through Safari and had the same problem -- too many redirects.

Just a quirk as Chase updated its system. They gave me a bit of a scare as when I just logged in, I had to go through the process just like I was setting up my online banking again. Had to again choose preferences, paperless statements, etc. I then noticed there was a message in my online Chase secure customer message center that had notified us a month ago that they were updating online banking on August 5/6 and we'd have to login and confirm our preferences again at that point. It should work for everyone now --- just be prepared to "re-set up" your account.

  • Safari , Autofill and Wells Fargo Online Banking

In earlier versions of Safari, I had to type my login/pass to login to Wells Fargo Online banking, autofill wouldn't put it in:
    https://online.wellsfargo.com/
I figured there was some security issue and just dealt with it. Then in 2.x? it all of a sudden started to work! Now in 3.0.4 I have do it manually again. Can anyone else confirm and does anyone know the story behind this?

Sorry, I just noticed another thread on the this subject. Couldn't find it before.

  • HT1338 After I installed OS X Mountain Lion system, I can't use my Safari to log into my online banking and some other websites which require passwords. Can some one please help?

After I installed OS X Mountain Lion system, I can't use my Safari to log into my online banking and some other websites which require passwords. Can some one please help?

It could be browser incompatibility or something else. When you say you can't log in, what happens? Is the bank website generating an error saying you're not using a supported browser? Does the login form for your bank account display as usual, but once you submit the form to log in it doesn't work? Give me a specific step-by-step of what you're doing, such as...
    1. I load bankofamerica.com
    2. I type in my login
    3. When I submit, the page does nothing
Obviously that may not be your issue, but giving us details like that will help us come to a quicker conclusion.

  • Safari and Key Bank Online banking

In the past month I have noticed that Safari crashes whenever I am in online banking section of Key Bank trying to open a pdf file of my statement. I sent Key Bank a message and found out that Key Bank is NOT supporting Safari! Now why is this? It seems to me that this is a poor business decision especially because Safari is the browser of choice for all Macs and the NEW iPhone.
This is the message they sent back to me:
"There are several browsers that are not supported by our Online Banking
service. As a result, anyone using an unsupported browser may
experience difficulties using some or all of the Online Banking
services. We have provided the list of unsupported browsers below:
    1. AOL lower then 7.0 All AOL versions lower than 7.0 are no longer
    supported
    2. Opera Browser - Not Supported
    3. Internet Explorer & Netscape versions earlier than 5.0 - These
versions do not support 128-bit encryption
    4. Safari - Not Supported
    5. Avant - Not Supported for Windows
    6. Cello - Not Supported for Windows
    7. Camino - Not Supported for Mac
A review of your message showed that you are using the Safari browser,
which is not supported by our Online Banking service. As a result, you
may no longer be able to use the on-line statement feature. So we may
obtain additional information to provide additional assistance, please
contact the online Banking Service at 1-800-539-1539."

I will have to try another browser as I have no choice if I want to do online >>banking.
Thats is a lot they aren't supporting, goodness Camino is a mozilla browser. One other choice perhaps, consider change banks?
Good luck, I hope Firefox works for you.
    Happy 4th.

  • I updated to the latest version of Safari now I cannot log into certain websites like my online banking.  How do I revert back to an older version?

I updated to the latest version of Safari now I cannot log into certain websites like my online banking.  Another reason I loved using this computer was autofill, now that does not work the same either, I have to respond twice to get my info to fill in.  I fill out many forms in a day and this change has been so bad that I have downloaded Mozilla Firefox to use instead.  I hope apple fixes these issues but until then how do I revert back to an older version of Safari?

    Quit Safari.
    Open Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities
Select Passwords on the left. Delete any keychains for sites you have problems logging into.
Relaunch Safari. Go to Safari / Preferences - Autofill. Make sure all three boxes are selected.
Now navigate to a site, login with your user name and password. You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain. Click Yes.
If you still have problems, go to ~/Library/Cookies. Move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) represents your Home folder.
Try logging into a site again.

  • Safari won't display online banking login - ipad mini

Hi, my ipad mini has stopped displaying my online banking login page in safari. It is ok when using iPhone 4S and ipad. Have not got any idea as to why but it is driving me NUTS!
    Please can someone help?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Safari and my bank website

    hello,
I am currently using a OS X 10.4.2 (up to date as of saturday september 24) on my 1.8ghz imac. whenever i try to log into my bank website to check my balance, each time i do so, i am told "Your current session has expired. Press the 'Exit' button above to exit. NOTE: This may be caused by reloading or resizing your browser window.  Some browsers do not support window resizing in a secure session."
this happens everytime i try to log into my online bank account. i used to be able to log in previous to using tiger (been using tiger a week after it came out) but since the upgrade, the above message is all i get. using camino, firefox, icab, shiira and omniweb log me in just fine. i have not messed with safari settings, nor have i resized my browser window at all (or at any time).
anyone have an idea whats going on? i would love to get this problem corrected as i am military and in the field 4 days out of each week and need to have 24 hour access to my account for day to day business and for emergency situations. is anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Hi Ryan,
is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Who is the bank in question? Since I'm not based in the US it's unlikely I'll be able to help but at least other posters can confirm/deny they are having problems with your bank.

My hard drive recently crashed and I had to have a new one installed, at the same time I upgraded to Yosemite since then I have not been able to get on my banks website to do any online banking.  I just get a blank page after I log onto the bank.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Using Safari? Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items.  Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site.
Try another browser as a test.

  • Safari will no longer support my online banking, Bill Pay???Any solution?

Anyone have problems with Safari and online banking , Bill Pay?

    jodee --
Welcome to Apple Discussions.  We all volunteers here, other Mac users helping each other find solutions.
So, yes, I had problems initially with my bank, and I found that if I refreshed the page (press the command/Apple key along with the letter " r " key), the bnk pages would kick in as usual.  I had to do that for a couple of weeks, but my bank finally caught up with the new Safari several weeks ago.
Try the refresh page, and let us know how you're doing, OK?

  • Safari, Firefox, OmniWeb can't log in to online banking after 10.4.9

I too have been having the same problems others have had. I cannot log into my online banking site any more as it crashes each time I do so no matter which browser I use. I tried loggin in with Firefox 2.0.x and with OmniPage 5.0.x, all which crashed!
This is definitely an OS X 10.4.9 problem!!

It is apparently a problem for some users, not all (me included). But you may find this helpful:
Mac OS X 10.4.9 Special Report: Secure site access broken: fixes
Some users are reporting problems with access to secure sites after applying the Mac OS X 10.4.9 update.
    Fixes for this issue include:
Replace the X509Anchors file It appears that in some cases, the X509Anchors is not properly installed by the Mac OS X 10.4.9 update, and replacing it with a valid copy can resolve issues with secure site access.
In order to do so, there are two options:
    1. Copy the X509Anchors file (which is located in /System/Library/Keychains/ from another system running Mac OS X 10.4.9 that is able to access secure sites back to the system running Mac OS X 10.4.9 that isn't able to access secure sites.
    2. Extract the X509Anchors file from the Mac OS X 10.4.9 installer package and place it on your startup volume, replacing the damaged copy via the following instructions:
    1. Download the Mac OS X 10.4.9 combo updater appropriate to your system (from Apple's download page).
    2. Download and install the shareware application Pacifist
    3. Drag the Mac OS X 10.4.9 installer package (e.g. MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.9Intel.pkg) onto the Pacifist application icon.
    4. Click the triangle next to "System" to expand it
    5. Click the triangle next to "Library" to expand it
    6. Click the triangle next to "Keychains" to expand it
    7. Scroll down and find the file X509Anchors. Drag it to your Desktop or another location (you will have to enter your administrator password)
    8. On your Mac OS X startup drive, navigate to /System/Library/Keychains and locate a similarly named file (X509Anchors). Move it to another location for safe keeping.
    9. Now drag the file from step 7 (the one that you retrieved from the Mac OS X 10.4.9 combo install package) into the /System/Library/Keychains, in effect replacing the damaged file with a good copy -- you will have to enter an administrator password.
    10. Restart your Mac
Others have had success with this fix:
Delete .plist Delete the file com.apple.security.revocation.plist from the following directory:
    • /Library/Preferences
You can replicate this workaround to some extent without deleting any files by opening Keychain Access (as mentioned above) then navigating to its Preferences (under the Keychain Access menu), clicking on the "Certificates" tab and making sure that both "Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP)" and "Certificate Revocation List (CRL)" are turned off. However, some users have found that only deleting the aforementioned file works.
Unfortunately, in some cases, it may be up to certificate providers to update their certification methods for compliance with Apple's new, more stringent security standards.
[b/Temporarily disabling JavaScript JavaScript can be disabled by opening Safari's preferences (under the "Safari" menu) then clicking the "Security" tab and de-selecting the option "Enable JavaScript."
Empty cache In other cases, this problem can be solved by simply emptying the cache (Safari menu > Empty Cache). In other cases, the solution is to open Safari's preferences, then click on the Security tab, then "Show cookies" and deleting all cookies.
Delete .plist file Some users have found success with deleting the file com.apple.Safari.plist from ~/Library/Preferences.
Reset Safari Finally, resetting Safari (via the "Reset Safari" command, accessible under the "Safari" menu) can resolve site access/login issues in some cases. Note that this will delete your browser history, cache, cookies, and other stored data.
Double-click login.keychain In some cases, the solution is easy as navigating to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user home folder), then finding the file named "login.keychain" and double-clicking it.
