Good!
But make sure Gatekeeper is enabled.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected. If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.
OS X: About Gatekeeper
As for Safari. try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plugins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plugin, I found this in the report: com.Cycling74.driver.Soundflower
That driver has caused problems for many Mac users as noted from the results of an ASC search > Community Search: Apple Support Communities

Safari regularly freezes then quits when streaming Netflix
With great regularity, when I stream a Netflix movie using Safari, in full screen mode, I'll get pauses of a few seconds after 45 minutes or so. The pauses get more severe (longer, like 5 seconds) until Safari quits. Then I restart it and watch the rest of the movie OK.
iMac, 10.6.3, versions up to date.
Thoughts?Try another browser and see if the behavior persists.

Safari regularly "freezes" with OS X Lion 10.7.4 ???
Recently updated to OS X Lion Version 10.7.4 and have had nothing but trouble with Safari ever since. From very slow loading pages to screen freezes and inability to scroll down on many websites, it's driving me crazy! Is is Safari? Is it my network? Is it the new operating system? I had a great Safari experience before making the upgrade and nothing but trouble ever since. Help!
Hi...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that didn''t help, back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
If that didn't help, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
For Lion v10.7x: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, from the menu bar again, click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then click: Remove All Website Data
If that didn't help, might be corrupted Safari preferences (.plist)
Quit Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
Tip: Disabling the Lion "resume" feature will help to avoid caching issues in Safari.
Open System Preferences > General
Deselect: Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
If nothing above has helped, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that OFF, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
And try troubleshooting Safari unsupported plugins. From the menu bar click Safari > Preferences > Security
Deselect: Enable plug-ins. Quit then relaunch Safari. If that made a difference, follow the instructions here > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
? Is it my network?
Recently updated to OS X Lion Version 10.7.4 and have had nothing but trouble with Safari ever since.
More than likely corrupted preferences, OR, a plugin, or an extension that was compatible with the previous Mac OS X but not Lion v10.7. -
Why with upgrade to 7.0 is Safari regularly freezing EVERTHING
Since upgrading to 7.0 I have frequently, maybe every couple of days, experienced Safari freezing. Withit freezing everything freezes, can not click on anything, can't use Forced Quit, can't ESC, can not do anything. Have to hold down the Power button, let the iMac go off, and then start it up again. Not good. What is going on?
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful. -
Flash regularly freezing Safari for seconds
Hi folks,
This problem only happens in one session.
When using flash content in Safari (looks ok in Firefox) I get the browser regularly freezing, with the colored wheel of death. What I can do to make it run again is clicking on the finder for example, it looks like some events un-blocks it and it starts again at a moment later.
I did not investigate further yet, maybe I need to move away preferences and try to determine if there is some faulty file in there, but If someone already solved this I would be happy to hear !
ThanksYou need to update to 10.6.4 and Safari to 5.0.2.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe. -
Safari still FREEZES when I click on iTunes Store Links!!!
Originally this Thread was called: Safari 4.0.3 PPC = FREEZES when I click on iTunes Store Links!!!
Wish I didn't specify the version, so that I could have continued it all as One Thread after the next update, 4.0.4... This Discussion Board doesn't allow the Author of the Top to Edit the Title of the Title of the Topic... Now that Safari 4.0.4 Update has been released, when people see 4.0.3 in the Topic Name, they might be more likely to ignore it. Lesson learnt...
Please review the Original Topic http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10469114 and Reply HERE http://discussions.apple.com/post!default.jspa?forumID=876 so it could be unified as One Thread...
The latest:
After Sleeping my PB G4 during the night, the problem still exist. After Restart, the problem is gone... I'll continue to watch this, and hopefully it won't be happening too often...So, I thought that starting a New Topic, without a specifying the Old Version 4.0.3 would be a safer bet...
Then you should close the old topic by marking it as Answered or Solved; don't leave them open.
If Safari still freezes, try this:
1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites or Cover Flow features, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
then press Enter or Return and quit Terminal
5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
Downloads.plist
History.plist
Form Values
LastSession.plist
WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Permissions, restart Safari and see if the problem continues. -
Safari 6 freezes with OSX 10.7.5
I'm using a recent Safari 6.1.6 update - and am now experiencing a problem I never had before with Safari on my OSX 10.7.5 MacBook Air system.
I am unable to use Safari for more than fifteen minutes or so before it freezes, and always when I'm switching to a new tab to view something. I never have more than six or seven tabs open. This is particularly irritating when I'm downloading material at the time, which is instantly lost, of course. Safari did freeze with earlier versions, but rarely more than once or twice a week.
Is there a way to return to earlier versions of Safari? Would this help? Any suggestions - preferable a solution - gratefully received.I'm using a recent Safari 6.1.6 update - and am now experiencing a problem I never had before with Safari on my OSX 10.7.5 MacBook Air system.

Lately my safari keeps freezing after opening a couple of my usual websites (facebook, yahoo, icloud, etc..) But it only does this at home when using our airport express. My wifes' macbook and our apple tv work fine at home. What's going on???? I have a almost 6 year old macbook pro with version 10.6.8. Our airport express is about the same age and we've never had trouble.
Rosie, Welcome !!
Do you have internet apps SpeedDownload, iGetter, PithHelmet, Acid Search, Safari Enhancer ? Or Norton or Virex? Sometimes non-apple internet apps need updating or uninstalling. If you do, let us know which ones and which version, please.
In addition to Miriam's link, you might want to try these:
1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
2. Trash your Icons Folder:
HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
If you're still having problems:
4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, and when the lights get regular, then restart your computer.
Hope this helps -
Safari keeps freezing since loading Yosemite when first released
my safari keeps freezing daily since loading Yosemite when the new operating system was first released.
When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -
Safari often freezes up my whole computer.
Safari often freezes up my whole computer. The cursor can move around some on the desktop, but then it quickly jumps back to the last safari page. Nothing seems to help. I have to shut down the computer from the power button. Argh!
Go step by step and test.
1. Empty Caches
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
2. Delete Cookies
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
Click “Remove All Website Data”.
3. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn off Extensions if any and launch Safari again to test.
Turn on those one by one and test. -
Safari regularly crashes in Windows 7
Safari has been crashing daily (sometimes more than once a day) for the last month or so. I usually have the browser open all day at work, often in the background. (I have two monitors, so I use one browser for certain tasks on the left, and Safari for other tasks on the right.)
I can't detect a pattern -- the web sites are not the same each time, nor is there always an element like Flash or Javascript running. When it crashes, there is only one option on the box that pops up to announce the crash: Close Safari. Windows says it will still check for a solution, but there is never any other message after Safari is closed.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. Here is some information from the crash log:

Safari keeps freezing when using yahoo mail.
Safari keeps freezing while using Yahoo mail. Have to close out or reset safari to regain access. Anyone else ever have this problem?
Why not use Mac Mail instead of Yahoo's web based mail and having to access it via Safari and deal with incompatibility issues?
Open Mac Mail.
From the menu bar top of your screen click Mail / Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Click + (plus) under the Accounts panel on the left.
Type in your name, Yahoo email address and Yahoo password then click Create.
It's that easy.
To view incoming mail or start a new mail message just click the Mail icon in your Dock. If the Mail icon isn't in the Dock, go to your Applications folder, launch Mail. Then click and hold the Mail icon in the Dock, click Option / Keep In Dock. -
DiskUtility cannot repair Permission difference: applications/Safari and freezes
DiskUtility cannot repair Permission difference: applications/Safari and freezes.
The message I receive is:
"Permissions differ on "Applications/Safari.app/contents/Resources....sources/index-html"
should be: lrwxr-xr-x
They are: -rwxr-xr-x.
This is a brand new computer.
DiskUtility keeps running for hours and then just freezes the PC
Please I need assistance
SallyAlthough it’s immensely popular, repairing permissions is a waste of time unless you have a specific indication of a permission error involving system files, which is rare, or a startup failure. It is not a universal rite of healing for computers. It has traditionally spewed bogus warning messages that mean absolutely nothing.
The built-in help for Disk Utility reads in part:
If you see an alert or a message that says your permissions are set incorrectly, you can correct the disk’s permissions by clicking Repair Disk Permissions.
It’s justifiable, though rarely necessary, to repair permissions after running a third-party software installer, as defective installers have been known to damage the permissions of system files. -
Safari keeps freezing after the 5.1.4 update
Safari keeps freezing up after the 5.1.4 update. I have no extensions. I also tried using firefox and it too freezes so it might not just be a safari problem.
I'm convinced that something is possibly broken in Safari 5.1.4. It's the first Safari update that has actually forced me back into using Google Chrome. I've had intermittent beach balls and system wide stalls since moving to 10.7.3 (including Safari 5.1.4). Removed every extension in Safari without avail. Activity Monitor and Console never conclusively pinned down the culprit. I finally moved back to Chrome, and my system is working again as intended.
