Google widget in iWeb

My google map widget does not appear in IE on two different Windows computers, nor does it appear in Chrome, also on a Windows machine. It shows up and works perfectly on my own Macbook Pro running Lion, in both Safari and Firefox. Is there a Windows setting that needs to be changed? There are no error messages.
Thanks

Even using the full code in the Snippet isn't 100% reliable. A couple of times recently I've had to go in and get the actual coordinates since the Google version was about 20 miles off. Instructions HERE.
Using the plugin for JQuery gives you a lot more options...

This is the very basic setup...

  • Embedding a google form into iWeb.

I am trying to embed a google form into iWeb and the full form does not show up. I used the HTML widget and copied and pasted the google link.
    Thoughts?

    Hi Ralph,
We can use fragments for such requirements but at the end when you add a fragment only the xfo is copied not the data.
so ideally this is not possible in Adobe forms atleast for now. so we need to have links to launch the child form.

  • Can' use Widgets in iWeb '09

    Hello,
I have problems to use the widgets in iWeb. I had the problems with iWeb '08 too and after upgrading to iWeb '09 the problems remain.
I get some screenshots. Maybe they could help. You can see their how the Google Maps and the HTML widget looks like for me. Its an empty block with a blue border and no content.
    Google Maps: http://tinyurl.com/dja8gv
    HTML: http://tinyurl.com/c8e9k2
Did anybody have an idea what's wrong with my iWeb?
    I found nowhere any solution.
    Thanks for your help.

I remember people having problems like this with iWeb '08.
As far as I can remember and reinstall is required.
The Google map sometimes causes problems outside of the USA because local postal codes are different from the US ZIP code format. But it should work to some extent.
Backup your domain file from Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb before deleting the application and the .plist.
Reinstall from the DVD using custom install.
Relaunch iWeb, run the update and do a restart before attempting to use the application.

They are called web clips, web clips data are store in one plist file so to use one of them you have to extract from plist file: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6720654

    I'm glad you got it.
I have a precise method for within page anchors but it is too abstract for people here, so I toned it down with javascript scroll function... and yet, people still don't understand it.
The method dynamically set/changes both source and destination of the anchors during the page load. The trick is how to set the anchors in iWeb Inspector.
Yes, I was impressed with the utlization of the array and for loop to create the references for xyz number of links. The code could've been more bloated, but yours was efficient. I have reverence for your code's efficiency and functionality.
That said, as of iweb3... I can build my own widgets to deal with common things like this. I'd built much more complicated widgets than just within page anchors. Have a look at my page:
    http://home.cyclosaurus.com/UnderConstruction.html
I've tinkered wtih C, Java, and Javascript enough to appreciate good code. I am not interested in devoting more time to coding (my emphasis is NLP now), so I can't go into more depth with this, but needless to say, I was impressed with how concise, functional (non-buggy), and intuitive your javacript snippet was.
the "_anchors" variable seems to be handled really well and you set it up for cross-browser platforms (// http:/ == Safari , http:/// == EI7 and FF).
I may scrutinze this more to further my understanding of arrays. This is an article I wrote on arrays during a computer science class in college.
In any case. Clean codekid. quality!
Lastly, I have total control over every widget that I add on my page... I don't have to guess which widget# iweb assigned.
Yes, control definitely is the ultimate result to clean, efficient, functional (non-buggy code). I'm working on a set of principles for social, outside, phone, email, physiology, inside, etc that is "Code" for success. It's very complex and needs to have efficiency, functionality, and cleanliness and concision. OKay. cheers.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS and your STATCOUNTER code. !!!!!!! I'm in the process of needing to set those up on my site. Did you do that efficiently? Do you recommended any widgets??? I have numerous statcounter projects, but need to get it up on my main site. Do you put statcounter html on every page of your site? is that necessary? Do you need to put a google analytics on every page of your site?? Thanks heaps. (this is probably a seperate thread now). Should we start this as a new thread?

Should this be another thread? I think so. The subject has now evolved from anchor tags to analytics and other widgets! lol
Do you host your site on mobileme or 3rd-party? I'm currently using godaddy and everyone has their preference. Regardless of which 3rd-party used, the '09 iweb ability to auto publish to ftp server is extremely handy for quickly checking to see if code/updates/changes made in iweb look and behave the way they're supposed to behave in browsers.

I did not mean to be a joke, I'm serious about it.
apple have poked at my site for some of the stuff that I'm doing.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS and your STATCOUNTER code. !!!!!!! I'm in the process of needing to set those up on my site. Did you do that efficiently?
AFAIK I'm the only one (as now) build widgets that *actually work* with iweb3.
So there is nothing for me to compare with, to know if I do efficient works (in iweb3 context).
    Do you recommended any widgets???
No. I do look at other widgets to see how they work and how efficient they are...
But I don't use them, I build my own iweb widgets.

    It's all depend.
As far as I see so far, people (most of iweb users) add GA and Statcounter thru HTML Snippet...
But they don't realize that by doing so the codes don't track correctly.

  • Create .kml based google map in iWeb

Using iWeb 08, I can easily and successfully insert google maps into my pages using the web widget. I am then limited to an address though for the base map.
Does anyone know whether it is possible to insert a google earth based .kml file in iWeb so that when a user opens the page, the desired placemarks etc... are displayed and available?
If so, how might I go about accomplishing this?
any pointers are very much appreciated!

Don't use iweb2 google map widget.
Instead, go to google map, enter the GPS coordinates, then add it using HTML Snippet. See this thread:

  • My HTML snippet widget on iWeb looks great on iWeb, but when I publish the page the HTML snippet doesn't appear on the webpage.  Why?

I pasted in some HTML code generated by Google Forms into the iWeb HTML snippet widget.  It looked great on my iWeb viewer, but when I published it to my website, the HTML snippet google form did not appear on my webpage.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

    What is the code?

  • Using Web Widgets in iWeb to Create meta tags???

    I am using iWeb '08 version 2.0.3
There is a feature in iWeb 08 to add HTML snippets (when you click on the button at the bottom "Web Widgets".
I have added some Meta tags on each of my pages, for example (my keywords & descriptions have different content, this is an example):
    <META NAME="Description" CONTENT="this is my description">
    <META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="these are my keywords">
    <title>this is my title</title>
    <meta name="robots" content="index,follow">
    <meta name="GOOGLEBOT" content="INDEX, FOLLOW">
I published to a folder, then pushed the code out to my site. When I view the source code, I do not see any of these tags on any of my pages (I put this on all of my pages).
My question is why is this not showing up? I can certainly add this content via dreamweaver, but that would be a pain as every time I update my site, I would have to publish to a folder and then, in dreamweaver, put the code out there again on each page. What a pain in the a*@!
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Because whatever you add to HTML Snippet is actually added to another page called widget#_markup.html .
iWeb then link this widget#_markup page to the main page with a iframe, this is the same reason why google analytics javascript and statcounter javascript don't track correctly when add in HTML Snippet.
You better off using some scriptable applications or AppleScript to do post editing.

  • Adding Google Adsense to iweb pages

In a previous posting, I was told that I could add the adsense code into my iweb website. I publish via .mac and cannot locate where the html is on my mac in order to add the code I need...anyone who can walk me through that would be a real angel!
    Dave

    flyfisher...
I'll give you an example of how to locate the page.html file for you to edit. Then I'll give you general directions on how to add the HTML code that you get from Google...
    Example...
You have a page called "Widgets" as part of a site called "MySite" that you have made in iWeb. Then you publish it to .Mac. iWeb actually has copied all of your site files to your iDisk for you. To get at them, follow these steps...
    1. Mount your iDisk to your desktop. (Look under the Go Menu>iDisk>My iDisk)
    2. Double click on the iDisk icon that appears on your desktop
    3. Look for a folder called "Web". Click to open.
    4. You should see a folder in that called "Sites". Click to open.
    5. You should see a folder in that called "iWeb". Click to open.
    6. Now you should see a folder calle "MySite" (or whatever you named your site in iWeb). Click to open.
    7. Find the file called "Widgets.html" (or whatever your page is named in iWeb with the .html suffix)
This is the file that you must open up in TextEdit in order to edit the HTML. Before you open the file, though, make sure that you have changed the TextEdit "Open and Save" preferences to ignore rich text format. Then open the .html file. You should see all of your code there for this particular page.
Here are directions for adding the code...
    1. Decide where you want your banner and know exactly what dimensions you need.
    2. Insert a text box onto your page and adjust its size to exactly your dimensions.
    3. Type in some uniquely identifiable text like, "BANNERCODEHERE" without changing the font or anything else...just type it in.
    4. Publish your page with iWeb.
    5. Find the html file associated with your published page (either on your iDisk or in a folder depending on how you published) and open it in any text editor (like Microsoft Word, or Textedit, or anything).
    6. Scroll through the html file and locate your placeholder text, e.g. "BANNERCODEHERE".
    7. Replace the placeholder text with your html code and save your page. (Not save as...just save)
That's it. You should see your adsense ad banner show up where you placed the text box in iWeb.
Because iWeb republishes the html files whenever you update the your webpage, you will lose your changes and have to redo them to add your banners back everytime your page is published over.
    I hope this helps.
