Same old "No service" message

Hi all
I am having an issue whereby if my iPhone 5 is charging via USB, I receive the "No service" message at the top left of the screen. If I then unplug it from the cable and leave it, it continues to display "No service". The only way to clear this is to make a call, where the signal immediately kicks in and the "No service" message is replaced by my carrier and around 3-4 bars.
I remember having this on my iPhone 4 too so I don't think its a problem with the phone or cable.
Some information:
iPhone 5
iOS 6.1.4
Not jailbroken
No running apps
Genuine cable
WiFi enabled and connected
Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks
Ben

Welcome to one of the more popular items here in the iPhone arena. This is a recurring issue mostly with the i5's. Jury is still out as to the real culprit, but in the list there are: the phone itself, any one of the 6.1.x updates, the carrier(s), the way you hold the thing, the phase of the moon, etc.
I went thru my own "No Service" period a few months back. Usually, putting the phone in Airplane Mode and back to normal (which turns off all radios and forces a carrier re-sync) did the trick for awhile. Else I'd have to do a hard reset (hold down Home and Sleep till the Apple logo pops up, ignore the red slider). But with no change in anything, not even the iOS version, the issue seemed to go away recently, so I suspect the carrier did something after enough clients pestered them. Note that having 4G/LTE enabled tends to make the connection more flaky.

  • Same old message - no solution! "this iphone cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not started"

    Hello all,
This driving me crazy - I have done it all - read through every forum and post - inculding all here. None of them resolves my issue...
    The details:
    Iphone - 4 - with IOS 5.0.1 (not the 4S)
    itunes version 10.5.2 64bit
Laptop - running Windows 7 home premium 64bit
(and just in case) - running Norton 360 with firewall settings for all iphone programs set to 'allways' I assume this is better than auto (yes I tried both)
I've done the lot - reset the services , start / stopped them, automatic etc etc. no joy - as soon as i plug the phone in via USB the same old message:
"this iphone cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not started" driving me mad.
Itunes will not recognize it as a device etc. nothing - PLEASE HELP....

If the issue continues after restarting AMDS, then you'll need to remove and reinstall AMDS and iTunes.
Completely uninstall AMDS, iTunes, and all Apple software. Click the appropriate links below for steps:
    Windows XP
    Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Restart the computer.
Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes. Installing iTunes will also install AMDS.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and connect the device. It should be recognized properly in Windows.

  • My Time Capsule has just failed, 2 months after the end of 12m warranty. same old known power supply issue, "just unlucky" says my local Apple service center. ***?

i bought a 2TB Time Capsule in Sep 2010. its just failed last week, less than 2 months after the expiry of the 12month warranty.
and 3 months after the end of Apple's offer to replace all the many Time Capsules that have failed previously due to this same fault.
    nice timing guys.
"yeah, its dead. same old known power supply issue", says my local Apple service center, "just unlucky".
huh? "unlucky"? you sell products with known defects, and when it fails i'm "unlucky". nice.
"OK, anyway, how much to fix it ?", i ask.
"you can't fix them, its closed", is the reply, "you have to buy another one".
"hmpf. OK, how do I get my backed-up data off it ?"
"you can't. we could try break it open and recover the hard disk i guess, but no guarantees we'd get it, and you'd have to pay for us to do that, whether it works or not of course".
"er.... is there a hidden camera in here? are we on TV? you can't be serious ? ..and this piece of garbage is what i've been using for a secure backup of my precious, irreplaceable, priceless personal data  ???"

ceeb28744.  Welcome to the Apple Users Support Community.  Sorry to hear your TC died!  You said it was a 2TB so I would guess it be the model A1355/MB997LL/A or MC344LL/A.  Believe it or not all users of these time capsules will eventually experience this problem like you have.  There is a 99.5% (or better) chance that the only thing that is wrong with it is the internal power supply.  If you will go to this site.... https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair  and once there look over at the left side and you will find:
Apple Time Capsule Repairers    and from that list you will be able to choose from a list of individuals that could repair your TC and have it returned to you fully operational again.  The individuals on the list are hardware technicians and they can save you a lot of money and time.

  • After downloading i-clouds I keep receiving a no service message and could not activate iphone. it says the iphone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. i have read several threads with the same but no solution

after downloading i-clouds I keep receiving a no service message and phone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable.
I have read several questions on this but dont see a solution.

Activation requires a SIM, assuming the SIM is functional it should simply activate.
The vast majority of activation issues are the result of devices that have been hacked or jailbroken.  If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

  • How do I get Verizon to move on my old phone number message

It has been over a week, 2 hours on the phone with verizon (yes 2 hours) and many promises to put the proper, "... the new number is ..." rather than the incorrect "... this line is no longer in service or disconnected".  I stayed with verizon rather than go to a local carrier so that mistakes like this would not happen, but I am continuing to get the run around and being passed from one phone number to another.  Does anyone know who I can contact at verizon to make the message correct as requested when we moved?  The 877, 800 service, repair and customer service verizon numbers all seem to generate the same confusion and continual passing from one phone number to the next.

    Dear DonRI,
I am sorry about the inconvenience and confusion.  Please tell me exactly what you need.  Is your phone being ported?  Do you have Fios service?  Did you move from one location to another?  When you say "move on my old phone number message" what do you mean?

  • No Service message. Works fine with other SIM

Hi everyone. Been having a really frustrating problem over the last few days. Hopefully someone has seen it before. On Sunday, my Iphone 6 suddenly got a 'no service' message where my signal used to be. I thought nothing of it until after driving 230 miles i still had no signal.  I tried the following: 1. Reboot phone2. Take SIM out and put back in3. Reset Network Settings4. Full reset of Iphone using Itunes and full IOS 8.4 download5. Tried my SIM in another phone6. Tried another SIM in my phone - this worked straight away and came up with 4G EE So i thought, the SIM card is probably knackered so I went into an EE shop and got a replacement SIM card and they tranferred my number across (24 hours wait). But put the new SIM card in and still No Signal message appears. I try the other SIM card from earlier and this still works straight away 4G EE. I then noticed that if I tried to ring my own number from a different phone, instead of it going to my voicemail as usual you can instead hear a short beep and then the call is disconnected, sort of like when you ring a number that has been disconnected. At this point I contacted EE by telephone to try and get some help. They said there was an 'update' waiting to go through on my account and also that my account had no profile set up on it and it would take another 24 hours. But just after this, I decided to try my OLD sim card again and this worked straight away 4G EE. This is the sim card that my number was transferred from. This worked for about 2 hours and then again I got "no signal". This time I tried to put the new sim card in and it started to work again 4G EE. I could make calls, receive calls and if you called my number and my phone was turned off it went to voicemail. This then worked all day today so I thought the problem had gone away. So to recap I was now using the new sim card and it was working, BUT THEN....just now I have got 'no service' message again. This time putting the old sim card in does not fix the problem. It stays at "no signal'. If I put another EE sim card in (the IPAD one) it comes up with EE 4G straight away. Putting either of the SIMs that are allocated to my phone number gets 'no service'. Also if you try and ring my number, it again gives you the disconnected beep instead of voicemail. This looks to me like there may be a problem with my number on the EE server?? The problem I'm having is that it is very difficult to convice the phone tech support people of this, they keep telling me to turn my phone off and on, reset it, all the usual scripted rubbish and wait 24 hours but it works fine with the IPAD sim card (which has a different phone number) Any help or ideas would be appreciated because last time something like this happened was when I tried to tranfer my old number across and after 2 weeks I had to give up and get a new number because the tech guys didnt fix it. Cheers, Si

Hi, I have had exactly the same problem as you. EE reset my account, I did several Network resets. No joy. Got a new SIM from an EE shop yesterday, started working about an hour ago, only to stop working 30 mins later. Switiching phone on and off, performing Network resets haven't helped. Phoned EE. They promised it would be sorted by 8AM this morning. Here's hoping..... In the meantime, I have topped up a PAYG SIM which works perfectly. Looking at this forum, Twitter and Facebook, tens of thousands of users appear to be having a similar problem. Seems to affect the whole country and be fairly random in whom it affects (None of the other phones on my account are affected).

  • Solution Manager 4.0 - Unable to create service message

    Hello all,
I am trying to configure our solution manager 4.0 to work with service messages. This is a single system, i.e., I am trying to create a message in the same system where the solution manager resides (no satellite).
I followed the IMG customizing and thought I finished all (I am probably wrong because it does not work ...).
When I try to create a message (Help > Create message...) I receive the following error  :
"Error in local message system; message 009999000001 not complete".
    What am I missing ?
What else should I do that I did not ?
    Thank you for your help,
    Isaac

    Hi,
Well I create the business partner using T Code DSWP. It creates  the following ID TSM 0040564686 100 SOLMANTSM100.
There are something that I don't understand well. If the guide says that you have to create one BP for each landscape component How do you know the identification of the end user that has posted the message??? all messages that are registered has the same BP ID. Well something that I'm thinking to do is create all end users in Solution Manager and create one Business Partner for each end user. Is this a correct way to identify each end user in messages?.
    Regards.

  • When I save an e-mail as a file, it opens (seems stuck) to the same old one saved earlier. How do I unstick it?

I use a MAC desktop and Thunderbird with latest update. Recently, when I've tried to open an e-mail that I saved earlier as a file with the .eml suffix, what opens is always the same unrelated e-mail that I saved earlier to an unrelated file. It seems stuck on that same unrelated e-mail, no matter what the file or what e-mail I intended to save. For example, I save (i.e., drop-down menu: Save As - File) an e-mail that I received regarding Topic A; then I go to the folder or file to which I saved it and locate the e-mail under the correct name in which I saved it; I double click and then click on Open; what always opens is an e-mail of a few months ago that I received from Bernie. It doesn't happen on my MAC Air laptop.

Until recently, I've been able to save e-mails to files and folders by clicking "Save As" on the dropdown File menu. In the last few weeks, whenever I open any one of the many e-mails that I've saved over time as files, it doesn't open the e-mail that I'm trying to open. Instead, what opens up is always the same old email of a couple of months ago that has no relationship to the one I'm trying to open. Somehow, it's stuck on that same old e-mail. So, yes, your response is technically correct: (a) I open the message, and (b) I see what's in there. But what I always see is the same old unrelated e-mail message. My question is how do I get past that e-mail that it's stuck on to the e-mail that I saved but won't open up? Sorry to be such a pest.

  • I am getting a no service message although I am able to access emails and other features.  My ibooks dropped all in the library.

I am getting a "no service" message in the upper left corner although I have access to all features.  I did, however, lose the books in my ibooks library.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • RDS server message: could not initialize class com.adobe.rds.core.services.Messages

I just moved to a new host with my own dedicated cloud server.  Using CF9.  Everything seems to be working fine with the server, but i get the following error when connecting to it via RDS through CF Builder 2.
RDS server message: could not initialize class com.adobe.rds.core.services.Messages
I get it when i first connect to the server, then if i try to access it again, it will let me in.  I also get an error when i try to open the first file.  Then its ok.
I have no idea what it can be, i have not run into this on any other server that I have connected to.

    Hello,
After 2 months of it not working for love or money.  I got a new machine and ColdFusion Builder 2 and started over.  It worked for a while.  Then when the trial version timed out a few days ago it killed it again.  With the same error.  So it is definitely something that gets “switched” within the code or configuration settings.   Rebooting about 3x seemed to fix it this time after entering the license number.
Yes to answer your questions below.  Yes, I did all those things below. Re-checked and checked numerous times.  Keep in mind the installation there worked for over a year then all of a sudden stopped.   I hadn’t changed anything at all.  And it just stopped dead, started throwing up that error.
I asked all the experts in my office.  One guy knows CF and Java inside and out and could not figure it out.  I searched the web and the issue is listed many times but with no real answers.
Thanks for getting back to me.  I am up and running with new machine.  But since I’ve seen the error on this machine now, I live in fear it will reappear and stop working.  So if you come up with any thoughts I would appreciate it.
    Thanks,

  • Send e-mail settings to smartphone via service messages?

    Good Day,
Is it possible to send e-mail settings to a blackberry phone via some form of service message so the phone user does not have to manually set it up?
We recently had to reinstall our Exchange server and are now having to change the e-mail settings on all our staff members phone's, however, some of these staff members are not in the same city as I.T. support and as the staff members are not very computer/smartphone literate, it will be difficult for us to walk them through on how to change the e-mail settings, especially if the autodiscovery does not report the settings correctly to the phone and the domain/server settings has to be entered manually.
One staff member in particular, has a Blackberry curve 9300.
Any suggestion's will be appreciated as we would prefer to, as well as in the future, be able to update the phones with the necissary settings by means of some form of service message rather than error prone manual intervention.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

OK...then the answer is, well, maybe. It would require compromise of your security ethics.
One way to do what you desire is for you to log into the users BIS account on their carriers BIS website and configure the email account there...doing so would, of course, require you to know the users BIS credentials. Of course, this also would require that the carrier actually have such a website...not all do.
Another way would be to ring up the users carrier and impersonate the user, and have the carrier agent configure the email account.
If the employer provides the devices as well as the service plan to the user, then I suppose the security compromise required is less since, technically, both belong to the company, not the user. But, if these are BYOD devices and/or the carrier account does not belong to the employer, then you would be in essence hacking into the users account to accomplish this.
    Good luck!

    rajesh,
There is a rough equivalent of ECC 'Exception Messages' in SCM.  This is called the 'Alert Monitor'.  It is a much more flexible tool than anything available in ECC.  There are standard alerts for all the usual planning problems, and you can additionally create your own alerts, without requiring the services of a programmer.

With respect to Exceptions in ECC, most of these are created during the MRP run.  As you surely know, when you move your planning over to SCM, you 'turn off' planning in ECC.  With the exception of a few alerts that are generated during MD04 display, there will be no alerts in ECC.
There is no standard functionality to display SCM alerts in ECC.  Actually, I have difficulty imagining what value that would have.  Once planning takes place in SCM, a Planner has little reason to look at any ECC planning transactions.  Alert monitor does support sending messages to a user's SAP Mailbox,  or to an external e-mail address, if that is a requirement.

  • TS2998 Same old problem, Apple vs. Cox

Same old problem with Mountain Lion using Cox server. Can receive email in MAC MAIL but not connect to send. Fix?
All settings are per Cox support information.

Please help with sorting out the issues with the Cox email services?   Sorry; I'm just not that powerful.
If you're set up per the published specs (and those aren't easy to find), then Cox (mail or doc or the Cox network) is probably broken.  What's posted at various of the Cox support sites indicates that the SMTP send path is either TCP 587 with SSL/TLS enabled or TCP port 465 with SSL/TLS enabled.  Cox does appear to use different SMTP mail servers, depending on your service class and your particular geographic location.  Cox also appears to use POP and not IMAP, and specifically uses POP3 Port 995 on pop.cox.net; that's the SSL/TLS port for POP3.
What to do?  Work with someone that you can share your credentials with, verify the error, and (if it can't be resolved) contact Cox and work through this error with them.
Or as an alternative, don't use Cox for your mail.  I deliberately chose a mail hosting provider, and not the ISP I work with, for mail services.  That mail hosting move was easily very affordable, and the mail provider quickly answers the (few) support tickets I've needed very promptly.   In other words, the ISP deals with the network wiring, and the mail hosting provider deals with the mail servers.  And mail works.
Or yes, you can use Google or another (free) mail provider, but - and with the providers of any of the free services in general - getting support when something goes weird is far from certain.

  • "No Service" message when trying to share via email/text/print, etc.

Edited to note that I found the solution after the fact.  Sorry for taking up discussion board space.
This morning I went to share a contact from a friend using my MacBook, and when I clicked on the "share" icon at the bottom right of the contact card, a message popped up saying "no service" instead of the usual text, email, print, etc. options.  Just now, I went to share a page in Safari and got the same "no service" message.   It's been awhile since I tried to do either, so I don't know if this is a new issue or one with Yosemite.
iMessage and iCloud Drive are both running fine.  I have been able to send messages and upload/download files from iCloud drive this morning.  I have restarted the laptop, and disconnected/reconnected my wifi several times.   Help!?
    Thanks,
    Liz

Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
