    Greeting!
I am currently doing a research on data warehouse kindly give me a smple of a cost/benefit analysis.
Looking forward for your immedicate response.

    Thank you and God Bless!
    very truly your,

    Good day Colin.
You question is like trying to guess the next day stock qouats...
There are many parameters that combined together and not all of them are constants infact...most of them are variables.
The issues are vary from lets say:
    1.  COBOL programmers payments needed to support and maintain you current AS400 special written applications and interfacing...
2.The number of system you want to integrate in your organization buisness scenarios..
3.The monitoring capabilities currently available in your organization in the Spagethi architecture.
4.Predicting the growth of your comapny and adding Buisness partners systems...
    5. Trying to estimate the re-using of XI-allready-writen-interfaces (not possible... )
6.The duplicated data and data incosistancy in your IT enviorment before XI and after XI...
So my friend,I belive this imaginary generic document of TCO can't be created...
    Good luck with your project
    Nimrod
If it helps you I've recently asked an ABAP programmer
how long it will take him to develope a simple File to IDoc scenario....he said that including design documents and testing Aprox. 8 days.
I belive i can do the first one in 5 days and the second in 50% of that time...

  • Unread      Implementing heirarichal structure in data warehouse

I want to create a data warehouse for credit card application. Each user can have a credit card and multiple supplementary credit cards. Each credit card has a main limit, which can be sub-divided into sub-limits to supplementary credit cards as requested by the user. Let us consider the following example:
User “A” has a credit card “CC” with Limit “L” and its limit is $100,000.
User “A” requested for a supplementary credit card “CC1” which is assigned limit
“L1” = $50,000. He requests for another supplementary credit card “CC2” which is assigned limit “L2” = $100,000.
Source tables contain data like this:
    1. src_client_card_trans: contains transaction data of client/user credit card usage (client_id, credit_card_number, balance_acquired)
    Client_id     Credit_card_number     Balance_acquired
    A     CC1     $20,000
    A     CC2     $50,000
    A     CC     $70,000
    2. src_card_limits: contains client’s credit cards linked to credit limits.
    Credit_card_number     Limit_id
    CC1     L1
    CC2     L2
    CC     L
    3. src_limit_structure: contains the relationship of limits and sub-limits.
    Limit_id     Sub_Limit_id
    L     L1
    L     L2
I have designed two dimensions and one fact table. Dimensions are:
    1. LIMITS: contains the limit_id.
    2. CLIENTS: contains credit card user’s information.
And fact table is LIMIT_BALANCES_FACT, which have some fact columns with the above dimensions.
How can I implement the above scenario of limit hierarchy in data warehouse? Need your suggestions.
    Thanks in advance

Much depends on how you want to analyze the data and there are a few options:
    1) Use credit limit as an attribute of the customer dimension. This would allow you to create query filters that can just show those customers with a $100,000 credit limit. This would return a list of credit cards (since the attribute would be assigned to each credit card) and then you can simply add or just keep the parents of that result set.
However, this assumes you do not want to measure data specifically relating to credit card limit. For example it would not be possible to view a total amount spent by all customers who had a credit-limit of $100,000.
In this case the attribute, credit limit, is simply used to filter a result set
    2) Create a separate dimension called Credit Limit and create three levels:
    All
    Range
    Credit Limit
The level Range would contain groupings of credit limits such as 100-500, 501-1200, 1201-1,000 etc etc.
This would allow you to analyse your data by customer and by credit limit over time. Allowing you to slice and dice quickly and easily.
    3) A second customer hierarchy could be added to the customer dimension. This would allow you to drill-down through different credit limits to customers to individual credit cards. It would be advisable to follow the same approach as option 2 and create some groupings for the credit limits to make the drill down easier for your business users to navigate:
    All
    Range
    Credit Limit
    Customer
    Credit Card
    Hope this helps

  • Is there any documentation which throws light on how data aggregation happens in data warehouse grooming? what algorithm exactly it follows in different aggregation type (raw, hourly, daily)?

Is there any documentation which throws light on how data aggregation happens in data warehouse grooming? what algorithm exactly it follows in different aggregation type (raw, hourly, daily)?
How exactly it picks up a specific data value during Hourly aggregations and Daily aggregations? As in  How the value is chosen. Does it say averages out or simply picks  value at the start of the hour/day or end of the hour/day ??

I'll try one more time. :)
Views in the operations console are derived from data in the operational database. This is always raw data, and typically does not go back more than 7 days.
Reports get data from the data warehouse. Unless you create a custom report that uses raw data, you will never see raw data in a report - Microsoft and probably all 3rd party vendors do not develop reports that fetch raw data.
Reports use aggregated data - hourly and daily. The data is aggregated by min, max, and avg sample for that particular aggregation. If it's hourly data, then you will see the min, max, and avg for that entire hour. Same goes for daily - you will see the
min, max, and avg data sample for that entire day.
And to try clarifying even more, the values you see plotted on the report are avg samples. If you drill into the performance detail report, then you can see the min, max, and avg samples, as well as standard deviation (which is calculated based on these
    three values).

  • Sample data need

    hello every body
I want to start learning about data warehouse. As I understand we need to store the very large data in a database. Therefore, I am now looking for the free sample data.
    1. Does anyone know where can I download the data?
    2. Does Oracle provide such data?
    take care

    Hi VJ,
System will place a Hold only when there is mismatch between Purchase Data and Invoice data, if you get invoice details with all required details and this matches with PO ( even if the Receiving is entered in different PO line ), system will pass the Invoice.
Hope this answers your query, please let me know if you are looking for any specific information.

  • Data Warehouse

    Hi
I want to setup a very small data warehouse with one table as a sample to understand data warehouse steps.
I studied some oracle documents and now I'm familiar with data warehouse
but I have some question I couldn't find any answer in documents clearly.
maybe my questions were so funny but if I can understand them I can go to next step in my job
all questions are about OWB (embeded in oracle database 11g) (I ask this questions in Data Warehouse Forum but no body answer to these)
*1- if I use this version of OWB, I encounter problem?*
*2- it is better to use embeded version or stand alone version of OWB?*
*3- in my schema in target used as data warehouse I should create objects manualy or OWB must create object in DB??*
*4- if I create a map in target module how can I use tables in source module to create mapping for data flow??*
*5- it's funny but when i create a map, I can't go to map editor to add objects to map?*

Best regardsJust like an OLTP database, the schema design and its data is 100% dependant on the business needs and (if done properly) the result of a thorough data analysis. Any kind of a pre-designed sample would be near worthless to any actual application.

  • Can one build a data warehouse using SQL rather than Warehouse Builder?

I would like to build a data warehouse purely using SQL statements. Where can I find the data warehouse extension of SQL statements?

I am exploring the internal workings of Warehouse Builder.
I have written a SQL script to generate sample data to be inserted into tables, then write SQL script to do Extraction, Transformation and Loading using MERGE,, GROUP BY CUBE, DECODE, etc.
If anyone has any experience of just using SQL to perform ETL, would you share your expeience here? Thanks.

  • Best practice of metadata table in data warehouse environment ?

    Hi guru's,
In datawarehouse, we have 1. Stage schema 2. DWH(Data warehouse reporting schema). In stageing we have about 300 source tables. In DWH schema, we are creating the tables which are only required from reporting prespective . some of the tables in stageing schema, have been created in DWH schema as well with different table name and column names. The naming convention for these same tables and columns in DWH schema is more based on business names.
In order to keep track of these tables we are creating metadata table in DWH schema say for example
    Stage                DWH_schema
    Table_1             Table_A
    Table_2             Table_b
    Table_3             Table_c
Table_4              Table_DMy question is how do we handle the column names in each of these tables. The stage_1, stage_2 and stage_3 column names have been renamed in DWH_schema which are part of Table_A, Table_B, Table_c.
As said earlier, we have about 300 tables in stage and may be around 200 tables in DWH schema. Lot of the column names have been renamed in DWH schema from stage tables. In some of the tables we have 200 column's
so my concern is how do we handle the column names in metadata table ? Do we need to keep only table names in metadata table not column names ?
Any idea will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks!

    hi
    seems quite a buzzing question.
In our project we designed a hub and spoke like architecture.
Thus we have 3 layer, L0 is the one closest to the source and L0 table's name are linked to the corresponding sources names by mean of naming standard (like tabA EXT_tabA tabA_OK1 so on based on implementation of load procedures).
At L1 we have the ODS , normalized model , we use business names for table there and standard names for temporary structures and artifacts
Both L0 an L1 keep source's column names as general rule, new columns like calculated one are business driven and metadata are standard driven.
Datamodeler fits perfect for modelling L1 purpose.
L2 is the dimensional schema business names take place for tables and columns eventually rewritten at presentation layer ( front end tool )
    hope this helps D.

  • Diff b/w Data warehouse and Business Warehouse

    Hi all,
what is the Diff b/w Data warehouse and Business Warehouse?

    hi..
The diferrence between Datawarehousing and Business Warehouse are as follows.
DataWarehousing is the concept and BIW is a tool that uses this concept in Business applicaitons.
DataWarehousing allows you to analyze tons of data (millions and millions of records of data) in a convinent and optimum way, it is called BIW when applied to Business applications like analyzing the sales of a company.
Advantages- Consedering the volume of business data, BIW allows you to make decisions faster, I mean you can analyze data faster. Support for multiple languges easy to use and so on.

  • Performance issues with data warehouse loads

We have performance issues with our data warehouse load ETL process. I have run
analyze and dbms_stats and checked database environment. What other things can I do to optimize performance? I cannot use statspack since we are running Oracle 8i. Thanks
    Scott

    Hi,
you should analyze the db after you have loaded the tables.
Do you use sequences to generate PKs? Do you have a lot of indexex and/or triggers on the tables?
    If yes:
make sure your sequence caches (alter sequence s cache 10000)
Drop all unneeded indexes while loading and disable trigger if possible.
How big is your Redo Log Buffer? When loading a large amount of data it may be an option to enlarge this buffer.
Do you have more then one DBWR Process? Writing parallel can speed up things when a checkpoint is needed.
Is it possible using a direct load? Or do you already direct load?

  • Time doesn't match sampled data?

    Hallo all experts,
I write a LV code which reads data from USB 6211 and saves them with time instants in a text file, but the time instants don't correspond the sampled data. The time values are generated by elapsed time, after build array with the data read from DAQ, they are fed to the write to a text file. The test signal is 10 Hz, but the text file yields 0.2 Hz signal. How could I synchronize them?
    Any tips are highly appreciated.
    win2

Don't use the "elapsed time" express VI for precision timings. It seems to have limited resolution (internally, it converts a timestamp to DBL).
You can use e.g. the tick count to keep track of the time. See the attached comparison. (still there will always be some subtle differences due to the software timings).

  • Error while creating data warehouse tables.

    Hi,
I am getting an error while creating data warehouse tables.
    I am using OBIA 7.9.5.
The contents of the generate_clt log are as below.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Schema will be created from the following containers:
    Oracle 11.5.10
    Universal
    Conflict(s) between containers:
    Table Name : W_BOM_ITEM_FS
    Column Name: INTEGRATION_ID.
The column properties that are different :[keyTypeCode]
    Success!
    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
There are two rows in the DAC repository schema for the column and the table.
The w_etl_table_col.KEY_TYPE_CD value for DW application is UNKNOWN and for the ORA_11i application it is NULL.
Could this be the cause of the issue? If yes, why could the values be different and how to resolve this?
If not, then what could be the problem?
    Any responses will be appreciated.
    Thanks and regards,
    Manoj.

Strange. The OBIA 7.9.5 Installation and Configuration Guide says the following:
    4.3.4.3 Create ODBC Database Connections
Note: You must use the Oracle Merant ODBC driver to create the ODBC connections. The Oracle Merant ODBC driver is installed by the Oracle Business Intelligence Applications installer. Therefore, you will need to create the ODBC connections after you have run the Oracle Business Intelligence Applications installer and have installed the DAC Client.
Several other users are getting the same message creating DW tables.
