Sampling Analogic Signal cRIO 9201

Hallo,
I succed to achive analogic signal and to create fpga and host program for cRIO 9004 and Analogic input module RIO9201!
I achive very well a 1 Hz signal but when I  increase frequency of my signal I lose in resolution!
the sampling rate of module is 800KS/s and I don't understand if it is a problem of  time in my software!
in the example of NI web site it isn't clear!
Thank you
Marco

  • Sampling analog signal- Sample and Hold!

    Hi,
I just started learning labVIEW so I am very new to labVIEW environment( there is always a first time for everything).. I just learned the basics ..Now I am trying to implement a simple basic Sample and Hold but unfortunately no idea (and no one to guide me) as to where to start from or how to do it..I know for sure an analoge signal generator(sine wave) will be required but where to go from here
Can you please help me? any algorithm, hint, reference vi..any type of guide will be appreciated !! I have the concept but not the idea on implementation!!
    Any help is appreciated..
    Thanks
**SORRY for the double post..had no idea as first one was showing error and not posting**

    Hi,
Okay here is what I am trying to do..just the basics..Sampling is a stage in ADC ..i am just trying to reproduce this behaviour..taking an audio input (or any input ) in the analogue continous form..I thought of multiplying it with an impulse train (at a particular sampling frequency) so as to generate the samples at the each sampling interval..I was (I think) able to generate ann impulse train but once it is multiplied with the original signal, it gives nothing at the output (should be a sampled signal)
I have labview 2010!! so I am attaching both vi and screenshot!
    Take a look..any help/ideas/changes are appreciated!!

  • How can analog signals are measured every several counters from Quadrature Encoder using USB-6221

how can I sample analog signals every counters from quadrature encoder using usb-6621?

There is a well documented example of what you are trying to do at :
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/explprog.nsf/webmain/DD85F07A7CA99F8F862568690062DE54?opendocument
Don't be afraid because of the BNC-2120. It is just used in this example to simulate the pulses from a device. So it is not needed in your case. Obviously, you will need to change the number of increments/rev according to your encoder to get correct RPM values.

  • DAQ Assistant, Analog Signal to Analog Comparison Event for sample clock

I am using a PCI-6071E and DAQmx.  I would like to use an analog signal on PFI0 to trigger Analog Comparison Event to be used as the sample clock in DAQ Assistant.  Is this possible and if so, how?

    Hi Ben,
You can use your analog signal on a PFI0 line as you are intending.  A few pitfalls of doing so are listed in this article.  Additionally, this Developer Zone article explains what you are trying to do, and gives and example that you may find helpful.  Have a good one!

i want to use ni-scope to drive pxi5105. And the PFI1 connect to a digital pulse signal(10KHz, 0-3.3V), to control a single channel analog signal continuous sample(Chan 0). I want a loop when the digital signal falling, the analog singal start to sample, and when the digtal signal rising, the analog singal stop. And by the low level of the digital singal, the analog singal sample (coupling by DC) can get an average and export to txt. I have tried the "start_and_reference_trigger.vi " and it did not work correctly. i need your help, thank you very much.

    Hi Phil,
The SCC carrier is only conditioning your signals (i.e. if your signals are not in optimal ranges, bandwidth or need external excitation). The actual counters and all digital lines are controlled directly by the M-series board. This means you will never be able to refer to a counter in the SCC module.
If you route the signals of the M-Series board, is as if you had done so externally from the SCC. Look at this example and might give you more insight to how to implement it (This is software timing). The hardware timing would be doing correlation DIO. Here is an example that needs to be modified to adapt to your timing: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/4414

  • Where can I found hardware to get analog signal from VCR and work with labview and then sample this signal in very high frequency?

I am trying to build a Digital Video Recorder using Labview. The problem is that I found that Labview sample the signal in the order of milisecond. I wanted it to be in the order of microseconds. Also I am looking for a cheap Hardware solution if it is possible

Your question does not make a lot of sense to me, so I will just point out a few things.
    1. The PCI-1411 works well with VCR signals. It has a BNC connector as well as a S-Video connector. The price is under $1000, so it is fairly reasonable. The amount of time you save getting it to work with LabVIEW is worth any extra cost.
    2. The PCI-1411 is sampling three colors at 30 frames per second, with an image resolution of 640x480. This is the best resolution you are likely to get from a VCR signal. The sampling rate for each byte in the image is about 28 MB/sec. This is in the microsecond range that you are looking for, I think. If you are only interested in the raw signal instead of the image, you could look at the high speed digitizing boards NI sell
s that acquire at higher rates.
If this information isn't really what you were looking for, perhaps you could clarify your question.

  • How to input/output a digital signal and acquire an analog signal at the same time?

    Dasylab, version: 8.0.04
    Acquirement Card: PCI1002L
When I use DasyLab to acquire the analog signals is no problem without digital inputs and outputs,
and when I use DasyLab to input or output a digital signal is no problem also, but when I do that at the
same time, DasyLab tell me the rate is too high and stop.
so, I searched the manual book1 (user guide) for that, it showed me :
To internally equalize measurement time and system time in the analog input, digital input and counter
hardware modules, use the following settings:
       Synchronization: PC Clock
       Sampling rate: <= 5Hz
       Block size: =1
the problem is, if I set the Sampling rate to 5Hz, the speed of the acquirement datas is not enough for my
    application.
so, how to improve it? who can give me a example programm for me. thanks!
by the way, I come from China, my English isn't good, I'm sorry.

    Hi,
Have things changed over the years?
I need to syncronise a digital output (Modul NI9474) and an analoge input (AI-Modul NI9203) module. I need to measure time intervals from a flank in signal A to a flank in signal B. I would like accuracies of the order of 1 ms. Currently, the signals are not synchronised, with errors of the order of 2 times the block length (block size x sample rate), sometimes much higher. The best I got so far was a block size of around 20 with a sample rate of 1 kHz.
If I use the master and slave settings on the RTSL settings, my program doesn't run properly.
If I use digital signals for input and output, I can syncronise them with RTSL settings and everything is good, but I can't always do that.
Also, if I do anything in the GUI (such as scrollowing something or going to another window), my output gets screwed up properly.
    1. What can be done to synchronise AI with DO?
    2. Is there something that can be done to avoid messing up the output when something happens in the user interface? (I know that I am messing up the outputs as they make some valves switch and that is loud).
    Thanks in advance!

I am using a PXI-6123 data acquisition card, as the picture show in the attachment ,I want to acquire the analog signal of ai0 through reference analog window and at the same time send a TTL signal to trigger my camera. I have tried two methods, one is using the DAQmx Export signal.vi another is using DAQmx connect terminals, but when the data acquisition card acquire the analog signal, the DAQmx Export signal.vi and the DAQmx connect terminals sometime can send an TTL pulse ,sometime can not.
I don’t know why?  or some other method that can achieve my arm is appreciated.

  • How to convert a analog signal to digital signal

    Hello,
How to convert an analog signal into digital signal such that every sample of analog signal corresponding to 1.2V will be represented as '1' in digital signal and other samples of analog signal(that are not 1.2v) will be represented(converted) as '0' in digital signal.
And how to display both wavefroms or signals in graph indicators.

  • Analog signal smoothing

I have a LVDT analog signal that I need to plot to a waveform chart for a test that is running at 5hz. The signal is very choppy and unreadable. If I slow it down to say 1hz or less the plot looks like a nice sine wave, which is what I am looking for. What can I do to acheive this at 5hz. Thanks in advance for help and advice.

No you're not.  Your DAQ Assistant is getting 1000 samples from 4 different channels.  You are throwing away 999 samples from channel 0 and all of the other channels.

  • Analog signal from PXI

I use a subVI of SAMPLE CLOCK for configuration with this parameters, Continuous SIGNAL, SAMPLE RATE = 4MS/s ( see attachment ). With one signal is ok, but with 2 signals, i have an overload Memory Message.
Where is the problem in the VI?

Quickly looking through your code now, try removing the "Number of Samples analog".  Since you are using Continuous Samples, you are just limiting the buffer and also limiting how many samples you can read at a time.
But you might want to think about using Finite Samples.  You know how long you want to log for and you know your sample rate.  So why not just do the simple math and tell DAQmx to get that many samples?  You can use the DAQmx Task Done? VI to see if it is done.  That would be much simpler than checking the time that has elapsed.

  • How to make a synchronous acquisition of two analog signals with a one channel DAQ ?

    Hi !
It is the first time I use Labview. I have just made some easy VIs, and now, I do not know how to deal with my problem...
My problem : I have only one acquisition card (DAQ Ni 6034E) and I would like
to acquire simultaneously two analog signals. It seems to be possible, in a quasi-synchronous acquisition if the card acquires one point of the first signal, then the first point of the second signal, then the second of the first signal, and so on ... I thougth that I could made two sequencies with a VI of data acquisition in each sequency, with the AI MULT PT. But with this, I think that I will lose the precision of the sampling frequency. And I have to know the sampling fre
    quency ...
    Thanks for your help !
    Carline

    Hi Carline,
A PCI-6034E is a low-cost board, which only has one Analog to Digital Converter (ADC).
With only one ADC you can't acquire different channels at the same time. That's why you find a multiplexer before the ADC in this type of board. This enables you to acquire multi-channels at the same rate quasi simultaneously. The samples of the different channels will be interleaved as it is explained in the following knowledge base :
With this method, the sampling frequency is the same for all channels. The sampling frequency of one channel is determined with the "scan rate" parameter. There is only a small delay between the samples
of each channels. When you perform an interval scanning acquisition, this delay depends on the "sample rate" that you specify. To have more informations about this terminology, please refer to the following KBs :
To easily perform such a multi-channels analog acquisition, you can use the VI named "AI Acquire Waveforms.vi". You also can use an example provided with LabVIEW. You just have to browse the NI Example Finder in "Harware Input & output >> Traditional NI-DAQ >> General".

    Hey Pavel,
Thanks for contacting National Instruments support.  Your program, in it's current state, is attempting to generate a finite pule train and count edges on the same card.  Finite pulse generation is a two counter device, where one counter generates the pulse train and the other counter gates the generation, or goes high when the generation is to start and low when it is finishes.  So no matter which counter you select for the count edges task you will get the error you describe.
Is it possible to use the pulses that you are counting as an external clock?  If so then you could just generate 5000 pulses and you would only acquire 5000 samples.
I have attached a modified example from your code.
Let me know what you think.  It only acquires 5000 samples as desired.

  • Displaying Max/Min values with time for analog signals.

I am sampling analog inputs. I simply want to display the max and min values with the time they occurred. This seems simple but I am new to LabView and can't find a Vi to do this.

Here's the code. When you run the demo program, you'll see three traces: Green is the max so far, Red is the min so far, and White is the current signal value.
As the input value cycles, you'll see the two limit values track its extremes. If you have any questions about how it works, just holler.

  • Is there a VI availible that will allow one to interact with an analog signal

    Hello all,
I am new to the sight and look forward to participating. I have a project that I’m working on and I would like to ask for your thoughts and direction if you’re willing. I have a few weeks left before completing an electronics program degree and Labview is one of the classes. The project I have chosen is to illustrate the differences between a micro controlled system and Labview controlled environment. I will be  acquiring a signal through a ultra sonic distance sensor. The analog signal will be produced after which  acquired  through a SCB – 68 connector block and converted using the pci-mio-16E. The sensor operates at 40 kHz emitting a 5v pulse (burst) then falling to gnd for a short period followed by a 5v rise and staying high for a period of time waiting for the return of the frequency. This time period represents 3 inches to 27 ft in distance.  I would like to interact with this signal through the distance period (portion) and output a string displaying a numeric value of the distance on the front panel obtained from an array built from different periods of the signal.  I am not clear on what Labview function offers this type of control.  I am hopeful in utilizing a vi or some type of trigger that allows me to build an array produced by some math functions.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you, dhitch

First thank you for your response, I will have an opportunity to make a capture tomorrow in class.  I believe I have run across the waveform measurement VI in my searches and am sure it’s a very good choice. The trigger VI you suggest, going by the name, should be my ticket. Would you imagine a delay or decreasing time after the capture, allowing the trigger VI time to respond to an output configuration be required?
If I remember correctly the sampling rate capabilities are 500K samples/ second with 12 bits of resolution and as I say that it seems some of the capabilities rely on the processing speed of the computer. I guess I will kick the tires tomorrow hey.  There are 2 class periods remaining to finish our projects @ 2 hrs / class and my anxiety is a bit high. Wish me luck and thank you so much.
