Sapinst SAPINST_ERRORSTEP=true
Hi gurus,
In the installation process of EP 7.0 we want to skip a step. We try modifying file "keydb.xml" (changing "ERROR" by "OK") but SAPinst don't skip step.
Also we try execute "./sapinst SAPINST_ERRORSTEP=true" but I don't understand because SAPinst begins to execute from the first step. Is it usual?
Are there other ways to skip steps in sapinst?
thanks
Hi,
Please let me know where i have to include the below line in the keydb.xml file.
./sapinst SAPINST_SKIP_ERRORSTEP=true

How can I change an "error" to "OK" in sapinst
I am installing Solution Manager Ehp1 and when sapinst gets to the step "Start Instance", it keeps erroring out. For some reason, when the instance starts, it isn't communicating this back to sapinst. But, I can start and stop the instance through SAPMMC so I want to bypass this step and go on to the next one. Can anyone tell me how to do that?
Back in the day....I used to be able to change the xml file from "error" to "okay". It doesn't seem to be that easy now.
thanks,
PeggyHi,
Restart sapinst with below parameter
./sapinst SAPINST_SKIP_ERRORSTEP=true

SAPINST gui timeout in ECC 6.0 installation in AIX
Hello.
We are starting an installation of ERP2005 SR2 with AIX 5.3.
When we start for the first time sapinst, I don't get the welcome screen, although DISPLAY variable is correct. It does not work neither if I try a remote installation.
<i># ./sapinst
[==============================] - extracting... done!
Starting GuiServer using:
/usr/java14_64/jre/bin/java -cp /tmp/sapinst_exe.245952.1170727057/JAR/instgui.jar:/tmp/sapinst_exe.245952.1170727057/JAR/inqmyxml.jar -Djava.security.egd=file

load resource pool /dvd/master/IM_AIX_PPC64/resourcepool.xml
guiengine: no GUI connected; waiting for a connection on host rhdesa, port 21200 to continue with the installation</i>
Then, nothing happens until a timeout message appears.
java -version is 1.4.2 SR7, according to install guide; AIX version is 5.3, I think all other prerrequisites (C++ version...) are fullfilled.
Any idea?
RegardsDear,
Please check java version (pre requisite) it should be 1.4.2 (64 Bits), if not then download correct verion and update through smitty and uninstall sap (not db2) thru sapinst and increase the space of /tmp by command
#chfs -a size=+4G /tmp
also remove logs from /tmp i.e. sapinst* and also remove db2<sid> dir from /db2 and change permission of /db2 750 .
also check export like LIBPATH, SAPINST, JAVA_HOME etc
now go to master DVD (either on copied) and give command where sapinst is there
#./sapinst SAPINST_SKIP_ERRORSTEP=true
every thing should go fine.
thanks

Try to run sapinst from command line with parameter SAPINST_START_GUI set to true
(e.g. sapinst "SAPINST_START_GUI=true").
With sapinst -p you will get all possible parameters of sapinst (often usefull e.g. if you need to change port and don't know how).

A SAPinst GUI question - can't connect to port 21212
Hello,
I'm trying to install a BW 3.0B system 'BSB' using Linux/Oracle on 32-bit Intel hardware. The Linux is Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES9). The Oracle is 9.2.
I was able to see the 1st SAP Installation GUI screen. The two fields on the screen appeared as follows:
Installation Host: <i>localhost</i>
Port: <i>21212</i>
<u>But when I clicked the 'OK' button, nothing happened. The screen and the two fields remained the same.</u> The messages from the UNIX install session, on two attempts using root id, are attached. There is nothing in the <i>sapinst.log</i> file in the install directory <i>/INSTBW30B/CI</i>. My Linux Administrator thought the SAPinst listener is not working.
The SAPinst I used is version 1.0, from a SAP BW 3.0B Installation CD, published in 2002.
Please advise. Thanks.
Regards,
Jack Wu

Thanks for the quick reply. The following are the whole story:
1. When I started, I followed the SAP "<i>BW 3.0B Installation Guide on UNIX/Oracle</i>" and SAP note 580772. After getting the error message "Floating point exception", I added the missing environment variable <b>LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1</b> according SAP note 797084.
2. Then I tried again:
lsapd002:/INSTBW30B/CI <b># /sapcd/KERBW30B/SAPINST/UNIX/LINUX_32/INSTALL</b>
This time I got different error messages:
ERROR 2005-10-18 10:50:23 [syuxcnodut.cpp:589]
CSyNodeUtils::isExistingWithType(iastring, bool, ISyNode::eNodeType)
<u>FSL-02013 Unable to access file /INSTBW30B/CI/keydb.1.xml: Success.</u>
ERROR 2005-10-18 10:50:24 [iaxxcsihlp.hpp:344]
main()
<u>FCO-00034 An error occurred during the installation. Problem: caught an unexpected exception.</u>
The error message FSL-02013 is confusing. Was it successful or not? It appears not. There is a keydb.xml in the installation directory /INSTBW30B/CI. But for unknown reason, <b>sapinst</b> couldn't copy it to create keydb.1.xml. Also, I'm not sure whether FSL-02013 caused FCO-00034, or the two messages are not related?
3. I looked into the "<i>SAPinst Troubleshooting Guide v 1.20 5/27/2002</i>", found a symptom on p.11, followed the solution part 1:
lsapd002:/INSTBW30B/CI <b># ./sapinst SAPINST_NO_GUISTART=true</b>
I got the same error messages as in Step 2.
4. I tried to fool the installer by doing manually:
lsapd002:/INSTBW30B/CI <b># cp -p keydb.xml keydb.1.xml</b>
5. Then tried the installation again
lsapd002:/INSTBW30B/CI <b># ./sapinst</b>
I got similar, but not identical error messages
ERROR 2005-10-18 16:38:18 [syuxcnodut.cpp:589]
CSyNodeUtils::isExistingWithType(iastring, bool, ISyNode::eNodeType)
FSL-02013 Unable to access file /INSTBW30B/CI/keydb.<b>2</b>.xml: Success.
ERROR 2005-10-18 16:38:18 [iaxxcsihlp.hpp:344]
main()
FCO-00034 An error occurred during the installation. Problem: caught an unexpected exception.
<u>Please notice that the FSL-02013 complains about keydb.<b>2</b>.xml this time.</u>
6. Then I gave up on solution part 1 in the "SAPinst <i>Troubleshooting Guide</i>" and continued with solution part 2, which is to run the shell script <b>startinstgui.sh</b>. After having difficulty with port 21212, I posted the question in the SDN Forum on 10/19/2005.
According to your reply, <b>startinstgui.sh</b> is just running the GUI which isn't really the installation. So I still need to resolve the errors with <b>sapinst</b>, i.e. FSL-02013 and FCO-00034. Any suggestion?

Jumping an installation step on WAS 6.40 installation
Hello dear colleagues . I am installing the Database Instance of a WAS 6.40 with Oracle, but instead of a Standard Installation I used the option to copy the database from another system (this will be my quality system and I am copying the production database). On the post installation steps the installer runs a script called run_control.sql that tries to create the controlfiles , but I would like to jump this step as I have already created this controlfiles when I made the SID change of the database.
I am trying to modify the keydb.xml file on my installation directory , the section where checks if this run_controlfile is ok (actually it is marked [ERROR] and I change it for [OK]) , but the installer overrides my changes . How could I force this change? Is this keydb.xml the file that controls the installation steps or it is a different file?
Thanks in Advance for your help
Jose Luis Valverde
SpainHello
I already found the answer, I post it here in case anyone needs to use it.
To jump a step on the installation of a WAS 6.40 you have to stop the sapinst and launch it again with this parameter:
/sapinst SAPINST_SKIP_ERRORSTEP=true
But be advised that doing this could make you loose the sap support on the installation -
Installation error with SWPM 1.3 for 70x on Win/Ora
Hello
We face a vicious error when performing a system copy of a 7.01 system with the latest version of SWMP (70SWPM10SP01_3-20009707.sar).
At the database creation step (just after oradim has created the instance ) we get that error

The solution was to edit the default pfile (D:\oracle\SID\11203\database\initiSID.ora) that was messed up.
The LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 parameter as some '&' character

just replace ' with '
Hope this will save you timeHello Yves,
Stop SAPINST (SWPM ).
Edit file ControllerKdbClient.dmp in your instdir directory
Find string ERROR in this file.... you will find CDATA [ERROR]...... change ERROR => OK
Restart installation with below command.
./sapinst SAPINST_SKIP_ERRORSTEP=true

You can try start the system if it's not online already, logon with

RADDBDIF) wit transaction SE38 manually. If you have to change the
the password for user DDIC, please change it back to default afterwards
with TA SU01 (Default password '19920706').
If the manual execution of the reports is successfull, please restart
SAPinst (do not use retry) with the option SAPINST_SKIP_ERRORSTEP.
./sapinst SAPINST_SKIP_ERRORSTEP=true, this should solve the problem.

Have you checked message.xml file on line 9333 for some garbage symbol ?

Sapinst.exe crashes on Windows 7 (ver. 6.1)
Hi,
I am trying to install Netweaver CE 7.11 on Windows 7 64-bit. Yes, I know it is not supported. But still, I would like to ask right about the reason sapinst.exe crashes.
So, sapinst.exe can be launched in Win 7 native mode, but it is not compliant with OS compatibility. So I am trying to launch it in Vista mode. But sapinst.exe crashes with error log like this (sorry for flood, but see below).
At the same time sapinst.exe launches in Win 7 native mode + 32-bit sapinst.exe launches in Vista mode. Only 64-bit sapinst crashes in Vista mode. I suspect this is related just to JVM and near that, and may be solved. Please, advise, if someone has more expertise than me or experience with such or similar situations.
Thank you.
Regards,
Anton

So I assume ntdll.dll is the place where crash happens. Am I right? And what could it mean?
Thanks.

Install of Sol. Mgr hangs during INSTALL SOFTWARE UNITS phase of SAPINST
I'm installing Solution Mgr. 7.0 Ehp1 with Oracle on Windows 2003 Server. The JDK is 1.4.2_26-x64
When I get to the INSTALL SOFTWARE UNITS phase of SAPINST, it hangs. This is phase 37 of 46
I see several different warnings/errors in the various logs. Not sure which one is the real problem. Here is what I see in the various logs.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

for additional information and trouble shooting.Basis Guy,
I followed your instructions, and the problem still exist. Per note 908911, I added "SAP_BC_JSF_COMMUNICATION" role to the SAPJSF user in the backend ABAP system. I've tried starting and stopping
the System through SAP MMC, and I see the following (solman is our hostname):
solman 0 - The AS ABAP work processes start sucessfully, the AS Java processes, show three processes, with two in the stopped state:
1) SDM - state is stopped
2) Dispatcher - state is running
3) server0 - state is stopped, with a return code of -11113
solman 1 - shows 2 processes
1) Msg Server - running
2) Enqueue Server - running
From SAP MMC, I look at the Developer trace for the 2 stopped processes (SDM and server0). This brings up the dev_server0 log, and the dev_sdm log. In both files, I see the following error:
[Thr 3712] JStartupICheckFrameworkPackage: can't find framework package C:\usr\sap\MES\DVEBMGS00\exe\jvmx.jar
When I look for this file, it does not exist. Is this my problem, and where does this file come from during the install?
From the Syslog of SAP MMC, I see three errors when starting the system, in this order:
Process Type: DP Message ID: GZZ
SAP-Basis System: > 1 possible network problems detected - check tracefile and adjus
Process Type: RD Message ID: Q01
SAP-Basis System: Operating system call recv failed (error no. 10054)
Process Type: D0 Message ID: R49 User: SAPJSF Client: 001
SAP-Basis System: Communication error, CPIC return code 020, SAP return code 223
Also, I see the following error in the defaulTtrace.0.trc file:
#com.sap.security.core.server.secstorefs.FileIOException: I/O error on file "
solman
sapmnt
MES
SYS
global
security
data
SecStore.properties".
java.io.FileNotFoundException:
solman
sapmnt
MES
SYS
global
security
data
SecStore.properties (The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open)
However, I see that this file does exist, but what does it mean "a user-mapped section is open"?
As for the configtool, Global Server Configuration, when I look for all instances of J2EE_GUEST or SAPJSF, only two parameters show up:
ume.login.guest_user.uniqueids = J2EE_GUEST
ume.r3.connection.master.user = SAPJSF
Looking in the ABAP System (via SU01), I see that J2EE_GUEST shows password deactivated. Is this correct?
Please advise.
Rick
Sunny,
Not sure what you mean by update the latest logs from sapinst.log. I've displayed the sapinst.log in the original post. I may just be misunderstanding your request.
Let me know if there is more info that you need. -
SAPinst getting stuck at "collecting JDK's" while installing SOLMAN 4.0 SR2
Hi Guys,
I am trying to install SOLMAN 4.0 SR2, and the sapinst gets is stuck in the phase "Define Parameters" and showing collecting JDK's for the last 2 hours. I have tried stopping the install and restarting it, have tried deleting the whole TMKSVR00 library and reinstalling it and restarting the install, but still no luck...
I am running the latest PTF's for V5R3 from Jan 19th..
The sapinst trace towards the end shows the following:
