Satellite L350-170 - Should HDD/ODD light be flashing?

I have a L350-170, noticed recently it seems to be constantly flashing.
I went out this morning, came back and laptop had not gone in "sleep"mode? Ilight was still flashing have run Avast, malwarebytes and superantispy, and besides the usual adware stuff super finds, nothing. Should I be worried?
Not sure if it's always flashed!

hi mole1,
sure there is a solution:
remove the cover, cut out the led and reassemble the unit > flashing light is now history!
*dont do that* i am only kidding!
there are many "sleep" option for your notebook:
one of them shuts down the lcd only, everything else is working.
the flashing hdd led should be gone when the notebook is sent to "hybernation"
this means the ram is saved to disc and machine is going down.
in this state there is no activity on your harddisc at all!
if any program, service or download prevents your system from this state you will have this issue.
check if the same happens when NOT connected to lan/wlan.
when system is running, no matter what state, the os is writing permantly to hdd and reads content from it so that a little trafic is normal.

    Hi shahchin,
I think you should check this Toshiba document:
[How to change the settings for the integrated webcam if the image is very dark or black |http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=59]
Furthermore the microphone is located on near the microphone because its a part of the webcam.
Regarding the picture quality of webcam you could also try reinstalling the webcam driver from Toshiba website.

  • Re: Satellite L350-170 - WiFi stops and starts

    Hello,
I have the Toshiba Satellite L350-170 and it's great. I am running Vista 32-bit and I have had it from Christmas '08.
For a while now, the WiFi will just stop (if I use webcam on msn or something) as if it's just overloaded, then I have to wait a few mins before it comes back on again!
Is there a driver to keep the internet connected? On my taskbar, it says I'm always connected, and when I check on ConfigFree (when i can't use internet, but it's saying I *am* connected.
    Can this be solved?
    Hope you can help!
    Regards,
    James K

    Hi James,
Maybe this problem is caused by the router. You should check the logfile of it. Is the router always connected interruptions?
In this case a firmware update would be advisable and let the ISP check your Internet connection.
Furthermore you can try updating the WLAN driver. The latest version can be downloaded on the Toshiba website.

  • Satellite L350-170 display has gone funny pictures

    Hi
i have a Satellite L350-170 but the display has gone funny pictures have started to look like negatives and colours are not the same also and there is like ghost screens underneath my current screen.
I have tried unistalling drivers and reinstalling but its just the same
Any help with this would be appreciated thank you

    Hi
Test the notebook in connection with external monitor.
Check if the same funny pictures would be visible on external monitor.
I think if the same will appear on second monitor, then the issue might be related to graphic card.
In such case the motherboard with the GPU chip should be replaced.

  • Satellite L350-170 - Recovery Disk doesn't work

    Hi
I have a L350-170 running Windows Vista home, I have recently purchase a recovery CD from Toshiba and now that it has arrived, it doesnt work.
I put in the CD and boot from the CD drive, I can hear the drive working and the screen says "Windows is loading files" and a bar appears at the bottom of the screen, after this the screen goes blank and all I am left with is a mouse pointer and a black screen.
    Thanks
    Jackie

    Hi
Did you test if the notebook would boot up using another bootable disk like Linux Live CD, WinPE or Win XP?
Please check thisthis would help to determine if the issue is related to Recovery disk or notebook.
Please check also if the HDD is ok. For this test you can use an free HDD testing tool called Drive Fitness Test. Google for that.
However, it could be also an faulty recovery disk and in such case you should get in contact with the guys where you have ordered this disk maybe you need an replacement.

  • Satellite A300-1IW: HDD access light blinks every seconds

Hello everyone, and sorry for the english, I'm french :)
I bought a Satellite A300-1IW few days ago and suddently (didn't remember exactly when) the HDD access light start to blink every seconds and it continues even after several reboots!
It only does this with Vista; I checked the disk activity with "diskmon" and I saw that even if there were *no* *disk* *writing* *or* *reading* the led continued blinking, so I think it's not related to some vista services (superfetch, indexing...)
I saw on a Microsoft support a similar problem but it was under windows 98 and with old motherborads!
    see : Link: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138598]
It seems so that it's related to Vista SCSI or DVD quering...
I now that's not critical but it's annoying to have this led blinking all the time
Have any idea? Do you think it could be related to the bios? I want to be sure before touching this because it's always delicate.
    Thanks for your help

In my opinion nobody must offer any comment because you already given the answer. This is nothing unusual and definitely no reason for panic.
What to do about it? What you want to do? Sorry but it is really stupid question. I can just offer you one stupid answer. ;) Take some black adhesive tape and cower the LED. ;)

  • Satellite L650-170 (PSK1JE) Setup Failure

Today i purchased a toshiba Satellite L650-170 (PSK1JE), i turned it on, and yay, I had to sit through a 2 hour long setup.
After 2 hours, it restarted for the 10+th time, and this time, instead of succesfully installing one of the 42 things it had to install,
it didnt start up, the only thing that was on the screen was a loading bar, with the text above saying it was starting the services
It did not do anything, i could just leave it there for an hour, "starting services"
So i tried to repair it, started it up, F8, and guess what, there was no Repair Computer option(wich should be there!),
all the other options were available, such as safe mode, so i tried safe mode
Even in safe mode the loading bar popped up, starting the services, and it crashed there.
I tried to recover it with a windows 7 recovery disk (wich i had to download and burn myself on another laptop..!)
Even with a recovery disk, it only gave me errors, it was unable to start the recovery
So yeah, now were about 6 hours later, ive successfully installed a trial of a different version of windows 7 on it,
Now all i have to do is download about 30 drivers from your website, and install them one by one, and restart the computer 30 times
I installed the webcam driver, restarted like it told me to, and i got a message that it was missing a dll file.
Do you have a disk available for download that contains the regular windows 7 home premium setup? with all the proper drivers?
Because mine was bugged obviously. Im not going to download 30 drivers that will not work on the current win 7 i have installed on it.

    Philipp.

    > Do you have a disk available for download that contains the regular windows 7 home premium setup? With all the proper drivers?
Because mine was bugged obviously. Im not going to download 30 drivers that will not work on the current win 7 i have installed on it.
    Recovery disk is not downloadable
First of all the notebook should contain HDD recovery option which could be started pressing F8 -> Repair my Computer -> HDD recovery.
Its strange that you didnt find this option
Here is documentation how to start the HDD recovery. But of course this would work only if the HDD was not formatted and OS has not been changed
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=58
However, it seems you have formatted the HDD using other Windows OS.
If you want to get recovery disk then you can purchase this from here:

  • Satellite L350: What is better choice: Recovery disc or F8 repair?

    Hi,
I have a fairly new Satellite L350 (5 months). I recently discovered a trojan attached to program files for AVG software. I got rid of the trojan, did a restore to date before loading AVG in hopes that my system would go back to normal. It still continues to be slow, explorer keeps locking up and all sorts of quirky things keep happening! Yikes.
I have the Recovery and Application CD that came with my laptop. Should I use the Recovery CD or should I try to just repair by using the F8 option? And if I use the Recovery CD what files will I lose, normally? I tried to search for a list of apps that are on that disc but found no info??
I have spent most of the day saving all my files on disc. I will lose some paid downloaded programs which I am willing to sacrifice if I can get my computer to love me again!!
    Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanks

    >Should I use the Recovery CD or should I try to just repair by using the F8 option? And if I use the Recovery CD what files will I lose, normally?
I would recommend using the Recovery disk because the Recovery disk would format the whole HDD and will set the notebook to the factory configuration.
If you have some viruses on the HDD then the HDD format might be the best option in order to remove all the Trojans and viruses.

  • Satellite L350 - Can't install Vista and how can I backup my data?

    Hi to all
I have a Satellite L350 and recently I've installed Vista Home Premium in a different language (the OEM Vista was in English) hoping I could activate it with the OEM key, but I didn't succeed.
When I wanted to re-install the OEM Vista from WinRE I realized I can't access it and then I had a "brilliant" idea that if format the C partition with the Acronis Disc Director it would boot from WinRE. It didn't.
Fortunately Ive burned the recovery discs before. The only problem is that the recovery disc formats the entire HDD and I have data on the second partition I've would like to retrieve.
I tried to install again the retail Vista to backup the data from the second partition (yes, I'm an idiot, I didn't do it before) but it stops after the first reboot. I get a black screen with a low dash blinking.
I really need that data, please help!

    Hi!
I can tell you why you cant install a retail version of Vista by using the product key. This is pretty easy because the key on the bottom side on the notebook belongs to the preinstalled OEM version and cant be used by a retail version.
However, I think the best way to backup your data would be that you put the HDD in an external HDD case and then you can backup your data on another PC or notebook.
Such external HDD cases are not expensive but very useful.
    Bye

  • After BIOS update Satellite L350-172 doesn't start anymore

    Satellite L350-172 Bios-Update from bios-20090203164614 to bios-201002250
I just updatet the BIOS of my notebook from 1.60 to 2,20. Now the Notebook doesn't start any longer.
"It was stopped for reason not to damage the Computer" - blue schreen.
How can I downgrade the bios again? Or - what have I to change in the bios-settings?

    Hi schuwe,
Im a little bit confused about your posting. How do you tell your BIOS not to restart?
Anyway, after BIOS update you should load the default settings in BIOS.
Did you choose the right BIOS especially for your model?

  • Satellite L350 and OpenGL 1.4

I have seen similar posts in the past, but none of them could help me with my issue.
Background, I have a Satellite L350 with Windows Vista and try to run a game that needs OpenGL 1.4. I already installed the current display drivers from this site but still could not get it to run. The next step was downloading the Intel display drivers, which are more recent, but I am having trouble installing those as apparently the manufacturer has not verified those.
Is there something I am missing? Looking at the hardware requirements of that game
(OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 / Processor: Dual Core 1.6 GHz or better / Memory: 1GB (XP), 2GB (Vista), 2GB (Windows 7) / Hard Disk Space: 140 MB Free Space / Video Card: OpenGL 1.4 or higher)
The L350 should be able to handle that, right? Is there a way to test which version of OpenGL can run?
    Greets
    Stefan

Aha.....almost...I am almost there. I have the drivers at hand and unzipped, yet I can not get device manager to use the newer drivers. Because anytime I point Vista to the new drivers it tells me that the most current drivers are already installed, even though those are 7.xxxx instead of the newer 15.xxxx. Do I have to uninstall the old drivers first (uninstalling those sounds kind of scary though)? I seem to miss the option to actually select this driver as windows just searches through the folder and doesn't do anything.
Maybe I have missed how to get to the advanced installation procedure. How do I actually get there?
    (Thanks for the help btw)

  • Cannot find my Satellite L350-10H - external video full HD output

    Hello Everybody.
I have a problem with my satellite L350-10H when I try to attach a second external monitor in full HD.
In fact Im only able to duplicate my Notebook Display with the same resolution (1440 x 900).
The System don't allow me to set a Full HD Resolution for my Samsung External Monitor.
I don't think can be a limitation of the Chipset because I can do that with all my oldest notebook I have at Home.
Now the strange thing is that when I try to search for a driver in the Toshiba website, my model just don't exist !!!
I put the serial number and the website don't recognize the model, then in the list this model don't exist.
It is: *TOSHIBA SATELLITE L350-10H* - OS WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM
Someone have also this model? How I can attach a full hd monitor?

    Hi
First of all, if you would take a look on the Toshiab European driver page, then you will notice that the driver search form does not contain any sub model numbers but series numbers this means you have to check the model number and then could find the right drivers.
As far as I know the notebook Sat L350-10H belongs to PSLD0E series.
You can find the drivers for this notebook if you would choose L350 PSLD0E.
    Easy. Isnt it?
    Now back to your video output;
As far as I know there is a Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset.
Ive got the same chipset and I can use the external monitor perfectly.
But I have installed the Intel graphic card driver in fact the preinstalled driver on my notebook didnt contain some resolutions
Therefore I recommend checking the Intel page and to download and install the driver for Mobile Intel GL960 chipset.
After new reboot you should check if you could choose the resolution.

  • Satellite L350 - Videos with webcam are up to 5GB!

Hi. I wonder if you can help me.
I have a Satellite L350-17 laptop. In short - was trying to upload a 5 min video recorded via camera assistant software (pre installed from new) on Toshiba to Youtube. Nothing happened.... checked video size and it was 5GB! Then checked all videos and all around the same size. Obviously something not right?
Even a 15 second video is upto 60MB. An 1 second video was 23MB. Checked all settings as best I could and all seems normal. Videos are saved as avi files.
Had Toshiba since nov 08 and noticed then that quality of pics and vids are very poor even using highest settings. Compared pics and videos on a friends notebook from another manufacture and are perfect. She doesn't use camera assistant software though. Only built in camera software.
Can you help please? thx phil.

    Hi
Please wait a moment You wrote about a poor video and photo quality but dont forget that this is a webcam and not a digicam for example. On webcams you cant the same quality as on digicams!!
I have two Toshiba notebooks Satellite A300 and Qosmio F50. Im satisfied with the quality of the webcam but if I want to take pictures or videos I use my digicam. The webcam is as the name says only for live-communication in my opinion.
Anyway, if you want to public some videos you should convert the videos in MPEG file as Luke suggest. So you can save a lot of disk space.
Google is your friend to find such converters. ;)
    Bye
