Satellite L655D Monitor

I turn on my laptop and the screen just stays black...the fan runs and  the lights come on but other than that nothing.
I've tried unplugging it and taking out the battery and holding the power button down for 30-90 seconds...but no dice.
Any ideas on whats wrong or what to do?

Have you tried running the laptop with only the battery and only the AC adapter? If you've already tried that, I'd say it's time to contact support to speak with a tech support agent at (800) 457-7777.

  • How to connect Cam to Video to Satellite L655D?

My daughter has a Toshiba Satellite L655D and wants to get Video footage she has shot on a Sony DCR-HC51 camcorder onto her system. The camera supports DV iLink s400 with a 4 pin IEEE1394 firewire connector. The laptop however doesn't appear to have any firewire connectivity. Does anybody please know of a way to either convert the iLink to USB or any other method for achieving this.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

    Hi buddy,
I dont have experience with firewire connection but I found on some online shops a Firewire to USB converter
That means you can connect the cable to the camera and then via USB plug you can connect it to your computer. This should work
Just check some online shops or get in contact with your local authorized service provider. Im sure they can order such accessories for you. :)

  • Satellite L655D-S5050 Problems With Start Up

After one month of usage my Satellite L655D-S5050 would not start up. It keeps referring me to a blank screen and a cursor. What can I do before trying to get the recovery discs?

During Boot, press repeatedly F8 to see if you can access the Windows Boot Options.  From there, see if it will load safe mode.  If it does, do the following:
    1) Open My Computer
    2) Right click the hard disc partitions listed and select properties from the drop down menu
    3) There should be a tab in the new smaller window that opens that is "Tools".  Select that
    4) The first option listed in the tab is "Error-Checking" and has the button "Check Now".  Click that button.
    5) It will open a new window.  Be sure to check both boxes to check for bad sectors and attempt to repair them.  Then click start.
    6) It may need to reboot to do this, tell it "OK" and reboot if need be.
    7) Let it run and see if it performs the Check Disc and note any corrupt or bad sectors it lists.
    8) Once done, it should attempt to reload Windows.
Report back if it runs into a new problem (be sure to record what it says and listed it specifically) and or if this helps fix it for you.

  • Satellite L655D-S5109 Volume Control?

Does anyone know how I can control the volume on the Satellite L655D-S5109?  I have no wheel or anything on the computer.  I do notice that on the number 3 and 4 keys there's an icon which I assume is for volume up and down, but I have yet to figure out how I am able to control those keys.  I have tried using the FN key as well as CTRL and ALT and many combinations of them to no avail....
Is there an update I am missing?  Thanks for any help you can give!!!

Fn + 3 decreases the speaker volume and Fn + 4 increases the speaker volume. You need to hold down the Fn key while depressing the numeric key. Make sure you're in lower case.
    That's on p. 204 of the User's Guide.

  • Satellite L655D-S5050 will not start

Hello! I have owned my Satellite L655D-S5050 for a little over a year, and this is the first major problem it has given me.  I'll try to explain as best as I can. A few days ago, I was using my computer as I usually do, and closed the lid when I was finished using it. I have my computer set up to hibernate when I close the lid. I came back about 20 minutes later, and found that my computer was still on, but the screen was blank. I tried several different things, but I eventually had to do a hard reboot. When I rebooted the computer, the screen remained blank and the fan ran at full speed. The BIOS screen never appeared, and Windows never started. The HDD access light never lit up, and I could not hear any HDD activity occurring. I tried pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot, but it didn't do anything. I had to do another hard reboot. After pressing the power button again, the same thing happened, and it happens every time I try to start the computer. This is where I am currently at. Has anyone else experienced this before? Anybody have any possible fixes? Thanks in advance!!

I just got my computer to start up!!  What I did was similar to the "towel trick". I turned on the computer, closed the lid, and then covered the computer with my bed's comforter. After about an hour or so, I noticed that the fan was no longer running full-speed, but was still running. I held down the power button to turn off the computer, then pressed it again to turn it on, and was greeted by the Toshiba logo! After trying (and failing) a startup repair, Windows is now running as it should.  I am now pretty sure that this is being caused by a hardware failure. Based on what I've heard from a few other Toshiba Satellite owners, this appears to be the result of the solder joints on the southbridge failing, and therefore breaking the connection between the southbridge chip and the motherboard. I truly hope Toshiba looks into this, and if it is found to be a manufacturing defect, will respond properly.  Anyway, I am sure that this will happen again in the future, but for now I can use my computer again! I'll let you all know what happens.  EDIT:I tried restarting the computer, and it once again failed to start. After the towel trick, I got it running again, and am currently using my computer! It is obvious that this is just a temporary fix, but it's better than nothing.

  • WXP support for Satellite L655D-133

I would like to buy A Toshiba L655D-133 but i need to know drivers are available for Windows XP if anyone knows i would be most grateful.

    Hello
Satellite L655D is preinstalled with Windows 7 as you can see on Toshiba website but thats no problem: If you have older applications they require Windows XP you can use the XP Virtualization mode on Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate.
For this virtualization mode, Virtual PC from Microsoft will be used and that means you have a real XP system for these programs they require it.
With other words there is no reason anymore to install XP instead Windows 7.
More information you can find on Microsoft website:

  • Satellite M200 monitor turns Off after boot & battery won't charge

    Hello, I'm from Jakarta, Indonesia
I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite M200 Notebook (Running Windows 7 Home Premium)
after i press the power button to power up my notebook, It works fine showing BIOS and Windows Boot Screen,
but after that my monitor just suddenly turn off when Windows supposed to show login screen.
sometimes the monitor don't turn off, but shows lower resolution (i don't know exactly what resolution, maybe 1024x768 or 800x600, i'm using 1280x800)
so the only thing i can do is press the power button again to shutdown improperly then press the power again to power up, my monitor works normally
try to shutdown then power up again in couple hours later, the problems comes again.
from the moment i install Windows 7, i use 8.15.10.1930 driver version (downloaded from Intel Download Center, which included Intel TV Wizard)
2 days ago my friend said that i should install the driver from Toshiba's support site, so i went to csd.toshiba.com and download the 8.15.10.1825 version from that site (which not included Intel TV Wizard )
my monitor works normally after I installed the driver i've got from csd.toshiba.com, so i think that the problem because Intel TV Wizard somehow messed up with my notebook. But this morning this problem comes again, my monitor just turns off suddenly ..
besides this problem my battery seems like failed to recharge, Windows shows my battery has fully charged, but when i plugged out my AC adapter,
it just remains for 15-20 minutes before my notebook shut down automatically
three months ago i just brought my notebook to local Toshiba Service Center and bought new motherboard to replace my old mobo (which have a VGA issue too!)
there's something i can do (related to Windows or software/driver) or i have to bring my notebook to the service center again?
are they somehow make a wrong wiring when replacing my motherboard?
and am i have to replace my battery pack too?
i've been using this notebook for about a year and half and there's nothing wrong with my battery before replacing the motherboard
any help would be appreciated :D

well, i can't find my model's driver in Toshiba Europe site,
in Satellite M series it only shows M100 and M70 and not including M200
i found http://pc.toshiba-asia.com which covering my region. after choosing my product they give me link to download Windows 7 driver, here's the link
    http://support.toshiba-tie.co.jp/windows7/download/Satellite_M200_32_sp.htm
    Windows7 Driver | Intel Display Driver | 8.15.10.1825
they have the same driver version (and same size too) with my current driver i've got from csd.toshiba.com
any other ideas besides the driver issue ?

  • Satellite L655D S5109 display problems

So this is what happened before:
    1. I don't know if this is related but like two months ago there was a day where the batery would't charge. if i plugged it to a power source the % of the batery would remain the same, if i disconnect it it would go down and if i plug it back it would maintain itself again but not charge. anyways after all the charge was gone and i recharged it it worked fine except that the batery icon in the task bar was now gray saying "consider replacing the batery" other than that everything worked fine with a normal batery life so i left it there.
    2. a month ago my screen woudl randomly go into a state of very low quality and frames per second. it would feel laggy as it seem like 1fps or something but it woudl fix itself randomly. sometimes by itself or sometimes by restarting the computer. after a while it worked fine and it was very rare ocurrance.
    3. two days ago my screen started turning pure white into cyan. i fixed this by lowering the brigthness by a tiny bit on the video card settings so there were no pure whites.
Anyways yesterday when i turned my computer on. the screen was comlpetely blank and didn't show anything. it was all black but it was still bright. i could hear all system sounds but nothign came up, not the toshiba logo or bios or windows or anything. here are some of the things i did:
    1. cleanned the dust.
2.plugged an external monitor. the computer reconized there was anotehr screen and i could switch modes using Fn+F5 but the monitor wasn't detecting anything.
    3.drained the batery and restart.
    4. press the pwoer button for 60seconds with the batery out.
non of those worked so it must be something with the video card. Also, I can still change the brigthness of the screen with the fn keys which i found strange i can see some changes in brightness like when the computer enters the log in screen (or that's what i think).
I know the gpu is integrated to the motherboard and can't be replaced but i still have some hope. I wanted to try updating drivers or firmware but i can't do that without seeing anything.
    any thoughts on this?

my laptop is 3 years old at least so it doesn't have warranty anymore. i don't know if removed the heat sink i think i didn't but i removed the whoel board and cleaned the fan with some preassured air. i don't think that's the problem though.
today i tried again using some other external screens. it's kind of weird. the screen says no signal and when i do fn+F5 some times the monitor will repower just to say there is no signal. using another monitor it said that the monitor is going to sleep. if i try to power on with a monitor to anything it will activate the monitor several times but always showing that message.
with all of this would it be the connection to the screens? i mean my main screen still lights up and i can adjust the back light using the keyboard still so some conection is still present. I see very unlikely though that both the connection to the external monitor and the built in monitor would fail. and if it's not that it would have to be the built in graphics in the motherboard. however do you know if the toshiba logo and the bios use the graphics card at all? it's weird taht it doesn't even show that.
I tried getting to the system recovery screen which i think i did by hodling zero and the power key the computer did some loud beeps so that's a good indication. still no display. i guess i need a guide to how to system restore blindly using the arrow keys.
on the hard drive thing i was planning to recover my data first using an adapter like this one: http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY%C2%AE-Drive-Adapter-Silicon-Protective/dp/B003Z2NIH2
do you know what type of adapter should i be looking at or if that one is good?
by now i just want to recover my data and maybe buy a new computer or something but i would really like to know at least what's wrong with my current one. I need my hopes that i can fix it to be crushed so i can think about how to replace it i guess.
    Thanks a lot guys.

  • Can't get Satellite L655D-S5050 to reinstall W7 with Geek Squad Discs

    Hello,
My nephews Toshiba Satelite L655D with Win7 got so slow, it was also sending out e-mails to his Contacts without him doing it. So I tried to use the Geek Squad 3 DVD's they made for us when we purchased Laptop about year ago & a Windows Recovery Enviroment. DVD to do a re-Install back to brand new shape. I changed the Boot Order from HD 1st to DVD/CD 1st.
Nothing would happen but Laptop would stop running. I think nephew tried to do the Re-Install with Toshiba's wizard. So I can't no matter what get Laptop to re-install OS. Nothing I can do I guess. can I buy Microsoft Win 7 Ultimate DVD & do a clean Install?
    Thanks,
    ~Paul

Hi Peterk_1 I tried changing the order of the install like you said (WRE) 1st then followed by the 3 Disks the Apps & Drivers but its all the same. All that does is take me quickly to that Error window I put in earlier post.
With the 3 discs 1,2,3 that seems like it will work but for whatever reason after disc #1 the other 2 are just in for a minye and pops out asking for next. Then nothing but that window asking for next Disk. I tried (MRE) then but I can tell it won't work. I'm going to have to bring it in to BestBuy. Not sure if nephew is under Warranty, doubt it.
I once before did a re-install of these Discs about 6 months ago after machine had so many virus's it would not do anything, like it was this time. Even if I erased some partitions or he did while messing with laptop before I got it, shouldn't it still go thru re-install back to out of box shape? I used the Toshiba System Recovery link from earlier post
    Thanks for help people,

  • Satellite L655D-S5116 - Recovery wizard asks for disk

When I get to the recovery wizard on my toshiba l655d-s5116 i should be able to select it and move to next screen where I can select recovery (out of box state). I have done this in the past without a problem but now when I click on recovery wizard the cd-rom pops open asking for a disk?
Never seen this before, so how do i do a factory restore now? i still have a recovery partition. and also why is it doing this now?

    >time to invest in a restore cd. thanks again.
Dont know what happens here with your Recovery Creator software but it seems that the image files which are needed in order to create a Recovery disk cannot be found.
So it seems that you need to purchase a recovery disk.
Since your notebook seems to be a US notebook series, i think you have to check this page:

  • Satellite L655D won't start anymore

So I spilled ramen soup onto my cousin's laptop (so stupid...) on the body below the keyboard...
She took it home to clean it some but I guess she did a poor job because it started for a few hours and then the next day, it refused to start...
I kind of opened the laptop and I saw the motherboard and saw how this plastic covering on it has become deformed. Is this fixable?
Or will a new laptop be necessary...
Here is a picture of what I saw. Thank you!
    http://i39.tinypic.com/hskkdu.jpg

the image from the link isn't to good because from the angle you took the picture it looks like a lot of dust.... but if that realy is deformed plastic it's a little bit strange because usualy when you spill liquid on electrical apliances you get smoke and the get black or burn with a flame from the short circuit that you give them.... and if the mother board is in deed short circuited reparing it will cost you as much as a brand new laptop....
i would like (if posible) another image with a close up of the mother board in order for someone to get an idea of what you have there dust or a chard mother board... but if we think a little about it you spilled your soup but still it worked for several hours that means that your soup is inocent and the problem is somewher else i suggest visiting toshiba service for a clarification

  • Satellite L655D - user profile service will not load

I have not been able to log in my partner on a new user account, keeps showing the message user profile service will not load -
I have previously tried to use Face Recognition, but was not able to configure this properly, and deleted the account.
The problem of the user accounts has been present since I deleted the Face Recognition account.
Any ideas how I can restore the User Account set up for another person on this computer.

    Hi
I think there is already a solution for that:

  • Installing Arch on Toshiba Satellite L655D

Okay, so on m other machines, I've had no problem installing arch. But on my laptop I recently bought, I came across one that halted the entire installation process.
Basically, I go to install arch, and my network drivers are non existant. The only interface on ifconfig -a is the local loopback(lo). I can't show you the whole output of lspci, but I can show you that it recognizes that it is there.
08:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8152 v1.1 Fast Ethernet (rev c1)
I can't download any updated drivers/proprietary drivers because, well, i have no network interface.
    Any ideas?

hi  I've not used the same model as you but on other tosh laptops, and other makes  to get many linux distros to find all your hardware ,or even boot in some cases i find you must add "switches" to the end of the boot line in grub, after quiet splash from mem it was noapic on a tosh,,on a packard bell its irqpoll to get it to see the wireless card.im at work now but when i get home i can give you more info if you are still stuck,,,cheers  Theo.

  • Satellite L655D-S5093 error

Hello! I am getting this error every time I start my Toshiba laptop saying
"Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (Build 083) Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.0.1.9 (12/15/09)
    Check cable connection!
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
I took my HDD out of the laptop and was able to boot Windows without a problem when I installed the HDD into my desktop. I need help on how to fix this please! Thank you.

Can not communicate with the hard drive so it is trying to find another way to boot.
Check cable from laptop hard drive to the board. Some have been able to fix this by removing the cable from the motherboard and then reinserting it back into the motherboard and hard drive connector if applicable. (loose, dirty, or bad connection)
And if you can get into the bios reset the defaults to boot from hdd, and make sure it is not set to boot from the Ethernet adapter which is what it is trying to do.
Commonly this is from a bad hard drive but you are showing that as a good hard drive.

  • Satellite L655D S5055

I have a problem with the processor fan. It will run loudly at 5 to 10 mintues a time every hour. Today it has run for 20 or so minutes loudly. I have checked but there is no BIOS update. Is there a program that regulates fan speed and noise?
    Thanks in advance.

I've noticed that mine will run like you describe sometimes after it wakes up from a sleep state once in awhile. The only thing that I've found that stops it is to do a restart. I don't know what might be causing the issue but I keep looking.
