Save As PDF causing browsers crash

I've used Safari, Firefox (1.0.7 and 1.5), Internet Explorer, and Mozilla and every time I select "save as PDF" a webpage in the Print feature, it resulted in a browser crash. Every time.
Have Apple addressed this persistently annoying bug already?
Thanks.

Is there anything helpful in the Console's crash logs? Are you able to print to a printer from any of these browsers? Please provide as much detail as possible.

  • Save as pdf causes application to crash

I have done a clean install of Lion OSX on several computers (imac & mbp).  Each of them has Adobe 9.x installed.  I have all updates for osx and Adobe but keep having the same problem on all systems.
When I am in any application and choose "Print" then choose "Save As PDF" the application will crash before presenting the Save As dialog box.  Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Bill

I am still having this problem and it's quite annoying.  Does anyone have any help they can offer?  Please?
    Thank you!

    Somethings to consider.
--| In Windows - the OS needs a goodly space for 'elbow room' - you don't want to have HDD free space drop below something like 15%.

  • Flash Player causes browsers crash.

Hi, I'm sorry for my bad English. I have a problem with my Mac. *After the upgrade from 10.6 to 10.6.6*, using *all browsers* I can't view webpages with Flash content because *the browsers crash*. The problem is due to the *Flash Player* software. I tried to install the latest version of the browsers and Flash Player, but the problem isn't resolved. Can you help me to fix this problem? Thank you.

Uninstall Flash using the appropriate uninstaller for whichever version of Flash you have installed. Then do the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Download the 10.6.6 Combo Updater and reinstall it.
If this doesn't fix the problem then you will have to reinstall Snow Leopard using the installer DVD. This *will not* erase your drive or your files.

  • Save current frame causes a crash

every time i try to save a frame as a jpeg or png... fcpx just crashes and closes. i was able to do it prior to the most recent upgrade i did.

i'm not in front of the machine right now...
but basically, i've done it successfully before... it's only since the recent upgrade that i've been having issues.
as soon as i hit "share... save current frame", final cut crashes... it doesn't even get to the point where it asks me what format or location i'd like to save it in...
maybe a problem with the part of the program that generates the image?
i thought about deleting fcpx and reloading it, but i'm afraid i'll lose my project and timelines...

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • All my save as PDF selections have suffix appended

Selecting tools and selecting save as PDF cause a PDF file to be created OK, but each file follows the following format.
    Filename.PDF.part
It requires a rename to eliminate the .part portion.
Thanks I am using a hisence nvidia with a tetra 3 processor.

".Part" extension refers to the download is not completed properly.
Try to download the file fully.
Make sure, you enabled firefox can access internet in the background.

  • Ever since I downloaded Acrobat Pro 11.0.09, the PDF Maker and Save As PDF have not worked, but instead cause MS Word 2013 to crash.

Ever since I downloaded the Acrobat Pro 11.0.09, the PDF Maker has not worked, but instead causes MS Word 2013 to crash. I cannot find the cause or the solution.

OK I will try to elaborate this time with pictures so it is clear what I am asking and what the issue I am facing is.
The specific option I want to be able to use from within the Adobe Acrobat Pro user interface is
    File\Create\Batch Create Multiple Files
When I select that menu item a floating tool bar thing pops up that I can drag and drop files onto.
If I drag excel or powerpoint documents onto it and press OK it converts them fine.  If I drag MS word documents into it the documents appear in the list but when I click OK it says no files processed.
In the process of troubleshooting I also tried using the Add Files button.  That is when I discovered that MS word documents (*.doc, *.docx) are not showing up in the list of supported file types.
The same thing happens when I try converting a single file using the File\Create\Create PDF From File menu item. Just like above the MS word documents do not show up in the list of supported file types.
Looking in my registry entries as suggested by the article linked to by one of the posters above I can see both *.doc and *.docx types registered in the correct place.
Unless I can use the batch convert command as intended by the time my trial period runs out in 13 days I cannot justify buying this software. If converting the documents one at a time was acceptable I would just use Save As PDF from within MS Word which works just fine. I need the batch convert function so I can convert my whole library of word documents to PDF at once.
    Any further assistance greatly appreciated!

  • Save as PDF in FM 9.0.3 causes crash

In FM 9.0.3 (aka 9.0p250 ... why are there 2 names for the same thing?) when I save a book or file with "Save as PDF" FrameMaker crashes.
It leaves Acrobat Distiller (9.3) open with message
Adobe PDF Settings file read error in PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
    /CheckCompliance out of range
The good news is that if I go through the Print dialog and select Adobe PDF as the printer it prints fine.

Can anyone tell me how to *effectively* unsubscribe to every post in these forums being emailed to me? I've tried every obvious, and not-obvious-but-recommended-by-someone thing I can think of.
    Thanks.

  • PDF causes Robohelp 9 to crash

Can you think of what elements might cause a PDF file to crash Robohelp every time I try to compile the help and publish?
I downloaded an Excel calendar template from microsoft.com. The formulas update the dates in the month areas when you select the year from a dropdown menu. Nothing too fancy, but kind of cool.
I rearranged the months around a little bit, used a custom font, and inserted the company logo.jpg. I set the print area to only print the calendar, NOT the dropdown, then saved it as a PDF. I uploaded it as a baggage file, and attached it to a topic. All is very normal. Then I compile and get an message telling me that Robohelp 9 encountered an error. When I click for more information, I get this - it goes on for days. I just copied the first page.
So I closed down other software, made sure no PDF files displayed in the live version on the server I was publishing to, removed the custom font, deleted the image, and tried some other diddling, but nothing worked. When I remove that file, the project compiles just fine.
Does anyone have any other thoughts? The next thing I'm going to do is try a different template, but I'm wondering if, after all my customization, I can still use this one somehow.
    Thanks!

Update: I tried to save other Excel templates into PDFs directly from the Microsoft site without making any changes at all, then added them as baggage files and found that NONE of them compile if they're in a Robohelp project. I don't know if it's a Microsoft issue or a Robohelp issue, but it's out there.
So, I did a screen shot of the calendar and created a .jpg, popped it into Word and saved it as a PDF that way. One does what one has to...

  • Firefox 6.0.2 crashes when I attempt to save a pdf

When I have a pdf in my firefox browser and I click to save it, as soon as I click on the "UP" folder on the screen to navigate to the folder I wish to save the pdf in, an hourglass appears and firefox stops responding. I can't close firefox or open another browser. I have left the computer in this condition in excess of 20 minutes and nothing changes. If I go into Task Manager "Dumprep" is using nearly all the resources. I have gone into msconfig and disabled Reporting to see if this resolves the issue. I am not in a position to reboot my computer at the moment due to certain programs that are running and can't be interrupted. I will report back when I get the chance. I can use IE8 to download pdf's and there is no issue, so I know it is firefox causing the crash.

It would appear that this problem was caused by my disabling Java as we have been recommended to do for security reasons. I updated to the latest version of Java, and re-enabled it, and the plugin checker now works fine.
Could someone please confirm that this would cause the problem I have been seeing?
    Thanks.

  • Printing an html msg to pdf crashes the driver but I can save to pdf from Abat

I have a user on a windows 7 64bit with Acrobat 9. He's got a message that we've saved to an xps. It opens fine in outlook and in xps viewer. When I try to print it in either one it crashes the acrobat printer driver. But I can open the xps in Acrobat and save to pdf just fine. Huh?

    Some useful reference material.
    At http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/compatible-web-browsers-pdfmaker-applications.html
Acrobat 10.1 adds PDFMaker support for these Office 2010 64-bit applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
Acrobat 9 and earlier users can create Adobe PDF files using the Adobe PDF printer.
For more information, see PDFMaker unavailable in 64-bit Office 2010.

    n.b., Acrobat 9 just went to 9.5.2

  • SYSTEM CRASH with 'Save As PDF' in Safari

Since installing 10.6.4 my MacBook crashes whenever I attempt to "Save as PDF" in Safari. I am unable to force quit Safari or use any other application as the spinning beachball of death works its magic. I removed Safari 5 and replaced it with Safari 4.05 (using Time Machine) but this has no effect. All I can do is a hard reset to get my MacBook back from the abyss. I've just tried 'Save As PDF' from a Pages document and this worked fine.
    Any ideas?

First thing I would do if I were you is find your Snow Leopard installer DVD, boot from it, and when you get to the point where there is a menubar across the top of your screen, go into Utilities and run Disk Utility's Repair Volume option. If errors, run it over and over until no more "file system was modified" messages are reported. Then run the Repair Permissions option. That one reports errors that never go away so don't worry so much about them. Then reboot, and google "10.6.4 combo update." Download the combo update and reapply it.
No Sno installer DVD? Then boot while holding down the ⌘s keys. When you get to a user prompt, type fsck -fy and run it over and over until you get no more "file system was modified" messages. Then type exit so the computer reboots. You can continue with the repair permissions and combo update bit after the computer has rebooted into GUI mode.

  • Save as PDF or Save Book As (pdf format) Causes Frame 8 to try to quit after creating PDF

I have Framemaker 8p273 and Acrobat distiller 8.1.3.
When trying to creating PDFs from books using either Save as PDF OR Save Books As (PDF) file, the PDF creates FINE but the program then attempts to quit by throwing up weird dialog boxes.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1.Open any book
2.Use File-->Save as PDF or File-->Save Books As and then choose type PDF
3.PDF created fine - no errors reported in Distiller window
    4. Framemaker then throws up a small dialog box that says "cannot quit." You cannot close this box, only click OKAY.
The only other issue that arises might be a "cannot print some graphics - will print as gray boxes"
    5. Clicking okay brings up sequence of 5 total of the same boxes (the book file has 7 files in it including the TOC).
    6. After last of 5 "cannot quit" boxes, a new Framemaker one appears, that says "Unsaved Changes in file (book name) Save before closing?" Options are Yes, No and Cancel. Yes saves file and quite Frame. No quits Frame. Cancel leaves file open.
I have reproduced this error multiple times with different books, using both the Save as PDF and Save Book As (PDF) commands.
File--Print Book using Acrobat printer works fine (making sure to enable the acrobat setting so bookmarks are properly generated).
Just frustrated that the first two options cause such an annoying error. Reported as a bug.

    Jaclyn,
I've seen this happen when an API client attempts to close a document that doesn't exist, which defaults to closing the FrameMaker session, but the session cannot close because it's in the middle of some operation. It's normally the result of sloppy code. Do you have any third-party API plugin software running? For that matter, does anyone know if the "Save as PDF" uses an API client? If so, might be a bug in that software, although it seems that there must be something unique going on here to invoke this behavior in your case.

  • Word 2008 crashes when trying to save as PDF

Ever since upgrading to 10.6, I've been unable to save Word 2008 documents as pdf files from the print dialog. As soon as select "Save as PDF" from the PDF pull down, Word crashes. This doesn't happen in Excel or Powerpoint.
What's interesting is that if I select the Preview button (next to the PDF pull down in the print dialog), it opens the file using either Acrobat or Preview (depending on how I set things up), both of which let me save the file as a PDF.

I also have had a few instances where Save as PDF crashed Safari and Firefox. It doesn't happen on the first attempt, after trying to save a few documents in Safari it consistently crashed while using the Save as PDF, I thought it was a Safari problem so I switched to Firefox it allowed me to save a few a more documents and then it crashed.
