Save SSRS Report as .PDF in Client Machine

Hi,
I am working on a SharePoint 2010 Visual WebPart, the saves a SSRS report as pdf on a button click.  The code is mentioned below:
HttpWebRequest Req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(URL);
Req.UseDefaultCredentials = true;
Req.PreAuthenticate = true;
Req.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials;
HttpWebResponse objResponse = (HttpWebResponse)Req.GetResponse();
Req.Method = "GET";
//Specify the path for saving.
string path = @"C:\test\" + quoteID + @".pdf";
FileStream fs = new FileStream(path, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write);
Stream stream = objResponse.GetResponseStream();
byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
int len = stream.Read(buf, 0, 1024);
while (len > 0)
fs.Write(buf, 0, len);
len = stream.Read(buf, 0, 1024);
fs.Close();
stream.Close();
The code works great, however, when the user clicks the button the file is getting saved directly in the main server when the WebPart is deployed.  So, now I want the user to be able to select the location in there system to save the file.  How
to enable the "Open save file dialog" and let the user select the location. can someone help me with this ?
thanks.
Regards, Vikram

You can use below snippet.
 string strURL=path;
        WebClient req=new WebClient();
        HttpResponse response = HttpContext.Current.Response;
        response.Clear();
        response.ClearContent();
        response.ClearHeaders();
        response.Buffer= true;
        response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename=\"" + Server.MapPath(strURL) + "\"");
        byte[] data=req.DownloadData(Server.MapPath(strURL));
        response.BinaryWrite(data);
        response.End();

  • Saving The Report File (PDF) on Client Machine/PC

    Hi Everyone,
    I am using Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2). I have a form that calls a report (both forms and report version are 10.1.2) with ASYNCHRONOUS option and creates a file in PDF format. The report is running fine and is creating the PDF file fine BUT on the application server.
    I need to know if there is a possibility of either creating the file on the client machine/pc or transferring the file from application server to client PC. I would prefer the first option that is to create the file on client PC so the client can print or browse the report later. The second option would be ok if there is no solution for first option but I am assuming that it would take twice as much time. First to create the report on Application Server then to transfer the file from AS to client PC.
    I have already included webutil library and object library but could not find a way to save the file on client PC using any of the APIs.
    I would appreciate if some one provide me detail information. I mean syntax on how to either create the file on client PC or how to transfer the file created on application server to client PC. I would like to know where the report is created on Application server as the path will be required for transfer.
    Thanks in advance.
    Khalid

    Instead of just creating the file, open the file in a
    browser using rwservlet. That way the client can see
    it and save in his PC whenever he wants to.
    Try:
    ...write code to get report id...you must be already
    having this...
    then continue....
    :global.report_server_name:=<servername>;
    reports_servelet:='/reports/rwservlet';
    REPORT_MESSAGE := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(REPORT_ID);
    vjob_id :=
    substr(report_message,length(:global.report_server_na
    e)+2,length(report_message));
    hidden_action :=
    reports_servelet||'/'||'getjobid'||vjob_id||'?server='
    ||:global.report_server_name;
                                       --WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(hidden_action);
    Basically you get the objid for the report you ran
    and open it in the browser.
    Hope this helps.Hi,
    First of all thanks for you kind reply. Actaully user has an option to preview report and it is working fine. The reports run and display under browser as either PDF or HTML depending on option selected by user. These reports can be saved on client machine without any problem as you mentioned.
    The problem with this form is that as soon as it execute the report it exit out of form. So the reports that are previewed run under SYNCHRONOUS mode and reports that are creating files run in ASYNCHORONOUS mode. I can run preview reports also in ASYNCHOROUS mode and I have already tried it by creating TIMER and WHEN_TIMER-EXPIRED trigger and commenting EXIT_FORM built-in. But as mentioned since the form exit out WHEN_TIME_EXPIRED does not fire and it does not display the report on the browser. I can see the status of the report in print queue when it is finished successfully.
    If the report is not displayed after running in ASYNCHOROUS mode then I will be unable to save the file. That is the reason we created the FILE creation option and thought we will find a way to create/save the file on client PC but I am having hard time to do that.
    I am sure I have made myself clear. Bottom line is that previewing a report in a browse is an option but will not work for long reports and if we run in background then it will not display in a browser as form exits after calling the run_report_object to run report so WHEN-TIMER-EXPIRED is not there to show the report when it is finished.
    Thanks
    Khalid

  • Save the report in PDF format on the server: is it possible?

    Hi all,
    Is it possible to save the report in PDF format on the server?
    In other words, in a web application:
    1) the user requests a report
    2) the report produced in PDF format, is saved on the server, where is the Java Reporting Component
    3) the report, in PDF format, is sent to the client's user
    Thanks a lot

    PrintOutputController.export, get the byte stream, save on server.

    Remeber i am talking about online version of mscrm
    please help

    Hello Devster,
    Thank you to post your question on TechNet forum.
    After reviewing the whole post, I have a question to you. You can access the report via the link, http://myServer/Reports_DEVPROJECT/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fData+Mgmt%2fSample+Letter.
    From the URL, I can see that the report is located at: /Data Mgmt/Sample Letter, instead of /DataMgmt/Sample Letter. In addition, I found that the target report is "/DataMgmt/Sample HAP Letter" instead of "/DataMgmt/Sample Letter" as the error described. I
    am not sure whether you post out the correct code segment.
    Please check the above things on your side, and hope it is helpful to you.

  • Issues in exporting SSRS report to PDF format in Report Server - Blank spaces are deleted

    Hi Gurus,
    I have a problem in exporting SSRS report to PDF format. It deletes all the blank spaces when I use bullet in a Text box and try to export to PDF formt in Report Server . For example
    •             Project submitted to the TRC
    Result in PDF format:
         • ProjectsubmittedtotheTRC
    I also noted that when I try to export to PDF in Visual Stuio 2005 (Business Intelligence development studio), it does not delete any blank spaces and shows the correct aligned Data in PDF format.
    Please help me as it is frustrating a lot
    I would highly appreciate for your quick response

    Was there ever a solution found for this as i have the same issue.
    When bullet point is entered in a field all the spaces are removed when exported to PDF
    i tried exporting to excel and it does not remove spaces, however this is no use to me as it needs to be in PDF
    Using IE 7 (Don't think the browser has anything to do with it as this happened via a subscription)
    Didn't know SSRS had specific Service Packs, i though they came as patches to SQL Server (SQL Server is on Service Pack 3)
    This should be easy to replicate all you need to do is copy text containing a bullet point into a sql server database field and then add this field to a report export to pdf and the spaces are gone
    Thanks in advance,

  • Unable to connect report to database on client machine

    I am using C# and Visual Studio 2010 with several Crystal Reports embedded into my application as resources.  This is a Windows application running on Vista.  I am trying to connect to a SQL Server database.  I created the reports using the design wizard in VS.  I am allowing for the server and database name to be changed at runtime through values stored in the project manifest.
    As experienced by hundreds of other frustrated developers, my reports run fine on my development machine but fail on my client machine.  On the client machine I am prompted with a database login window.  The server name is properly populated with the server name pulled from the ...exe.config file.  The database name is blank and the field is disabled.  The integrated security checkbox is not checked.  I am programatically providing the server name, the database name and specifying integrated security to be true using sample code I found on this forum.  See below.
    I reviewed the Troubleshooting Guide to Database Connectivity Issue with Crystal Reports in Visual Studio .NET Applications.  Accordingly, I am running the SP1 for Visual Studio 2010 on my development machine and the most recent runtime module on the client machine.
    Here is my application code.

    Hello,
    Install the MS SQL Server Client tools on your PC and when setting location use the MS SQL Native 10 client as your database driver.
    Only one MS supports for Server 2008, there is a MS Kbase on this, you can't use MDAC version of the SQL Client engine.
    Then update your app to use RAS and search in this forum on ReplaceConnection_click and you'll find my sample code on how to set location to use the new DB server and connection properties.
    If that doesn't work then try hard coding the log on info rather than using variables. At the same time, unfortunately SQL Express doesn't have the Management Console, you want to watch the server using Profiler to see what your app is actually sending to the Server. If you have a full version of SQL 2008 then you can monitor what is going on. If not then you'll ahve to find some other tool you can use.
    Try ODBC, you can enable ODBC Trace to see is all other options are not available.
    If that doesn't work post to MS's forum and ask them why you connection info isn't working.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Not able to save deski report as PDF through infoview

    Hi,
    when I try to save a deski report as PDF through infoview error appears as:
    Your request could not be completed because a failure occurred while the report was being processed. Please contact business administrator.[RCIRAS0546] (Error: INF)
    we are using BOXI 3.1/ SP2.
    Please let me know the possible solution for this.
    Thanks
    DLN

    Are you migrated from earlier version to 3.1.
    YES,
    here you go,
    Have a back door way to fix the problem...
    We were having the same issue with DeskI documents while upgrading from XIR2 to XIR3.
    It's tied to documents that are set to Refresh on open
    If you import the report, set it to "not" refresh then publish it, test it and it should run fine. Once you get it working correctly you can republish the report again and turn the "Refresh on Open" back on.
    It should work fine from that point on.
    Thank You!!

  • Save webi report as pdf programmatically

    Does anyone has any SDK code sample or can point me to the location of code sample on how to save a webi report as PDF file programmatically? Also, is the ReportEngineSDK is sufficient for this task or I need some other SDK?
    We are running XIr2 SP1 on Windows Server 2003, with Tomcat as web container.
    Any help will be very much appreciated.

    Hi,
    I think Using ReportEngine SDK you would not be able to save the webi report in PDF format.However it could be possible if you schedule a webi report to PDF format to unmanaged disk.
    You can refer the following tutorials given in developer library's BusinessObjects Enterprise SDKs. You can either use .NET or Java SDKs.
    How to schedule a report to a destination (FTP, SMTP, Disk, Printer, Inbox)
    How to schedule and view Web Intelligence documents
    Here is the link for developer library:

  • SSRS Report in PDF format opening very slowly in SharePoint

    HI All,
    I have a SSRS report which is being hosted in SharePoint.
    Currently I am opening the report in PDF format in SharePoint but it is taking a lot of time to render.
    It would be very helpful if any one helps me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks

    Hi sudipta,
    According to your description, it takes too long to render the report on SharePoint site when accessing it. Right?
    In this scenario, it can be many possibilities which will reduce the report performance. We suggest you check the report on ReportServer first. Go to the ReportServer ExecutionLog to see which part takes more time.
    Then we need to do some troubleshooting to improve the report performance. Here we have a article for your reference:

  • Save plug-in trace file to client machine

    I develop for a company who makes a web based server/client application. I am required to find a way to save the java plugin trace file on the client machine so that it doesn't get overwritten each time a client starts a new session.
    I have seen the command for java 1.4 -Djavaplugin.outputfiles.overwrite=false but I can't seem to get it working for java 1.5.
    I am also required to find a way to change the settings without touching or installing something on each client machine.
    Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should look for an answer, or have any ideas on a solution.
    Thanks

    This is a known issue. See bug http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5066440
    The bug has been fixed in jre 1.4.2_09, and in the upcoming release 1.6.0. It looks like the fix has not been ported to 1.5 release.

  • Error occurred during exporting ssrs report as pdf

    an error occurred during local report processing. Object reference not set to an instance of an object
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Esha2nk,
    According to your description, when you export the report to PDF in BIDS, the error “Export error: An error occurred during local report processing. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.” is thrown out.
    Based on the error message, it could cause by that there are hidden groups within the report, or the matrix has multiple columns and rows, and Hidden is set to true in the Visibility properties. So in your scenario, please check those two factors. If
    issue persists, please provide report design for our analysis. Besides, would you please tell us which SQL Server version you are using?
