  • Can't Save Word documents

Suddenly I can't save Word documents or even exit Word without using force quit. How can I correct this

Then you have an iMac Intel, not a PPC.    Now, since you haven't installed a security update, and you are sure you haven't the only reason the documents may not save is that the installation was not good.   Be sure first your data is backed up.  Try to run the installer for Office inside the Installer folder, and to be doubly certain, download the latest Office v.X patch.  If it still doesn't work, you may want to try an Office alternative such as NeoOffice, OpenOffice, Google Docs, or Zoho Writer.

  • Unable to save Word documents when accessing them directly from the site because the document never converts from a read-only even though the User chooses to enable editing

Issue has only popped up recently and cannot reproduce in a Test environment.  Unaware of any SharePoint changes, so hoping someone can point me in the correct direction.
Previously Word document did not have to be physically checked out, but rather the editing of the doc also checked out the doc in a document library. This is the way we want it to remain –
no manual check-out process. Now if a doc is edited without being checked-out, there is an issue with the process as the application thinks the doc is read-only (message received when trying to save the doc) even if enable editing is selected. The
following message appears when you try to save the document:
This message can appear if you have been editing a file that was opened as read-only. A file opened as read-only will have (Read-Only) appended to the file name as it appears in the title bar of Word. You can still save the document, but you must
save it by using a different file name. If you use Windows Explorer to change the read-only properties of the file, while the file is open in Word, it will not enable Word to save the file. Word must open a non-read-only version of the file in order to save
it by using its original file name. If you have not made any changes to the file, you can close it, and then use the following steps to make the file writeable. 1. Click the File tab, and then click Open. 2. Browse to the file and right-click it. 3. Click
Properties, and then clear the Read-Only check box. 4. Reopen the file. If you have made changes to a read-only file, you can save it, and then use the following steps to give the modified file the original file name. 1. Click the File tab, and then click
Save As. 2. Enter a different file name, and then click Save. 3. NOTE: Adding "Rev1", or "Mod1" to the original file name may help you to remember it later. 4. Click the File tab, and then click Close. 5. Open Windows Explorer. 6. Browse
to the original read-only file. 7. Rename the read-only file. 8. Browse to the new file. 9. Rename the new file to the name of the original file. Do not delete the read-only file until after you have determined you no longer need it.
Previously, when check-out was optional, a file was checked out automatically when someone opened it for editing, unless it was already checked out. The editing commands notified the User that the file is being/was checked out.  The real issue is the
word doc can no longer be saved as the application still believes the doc is read-only.

    Hi,
According to your description, you give the domain admin full control over files on the old file server, but you cannot move the files to the new file server. After pull the files from the old to the new file server, the domain admin can only read the files
    on the new file server.
How did you move the files from the old file server to the new file server? Did you setup replication between the two file server or use robocopy?
Please check the files permissions on the new file server to see if the permissions are changed, then share the folder on the new file server to everyone to see the result.

  • No longer able to save Word documents - older Macbook

When I have tried to save multiple Word documents recently, I get this message:
"Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write-protected. Try one or more of the following:
    *Free more memory
*Make sure that the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected, or damaged"
I have 60GB of free space, but to be sure, I deleted 30 old documents and still no dice. I have no idea what write-protected means.
    Thanks.

This website was helpful for me:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-101017.html
"as you work. Consequently, if working in Word for a long period of time, and frequently "saving" Word will hit its quota of saves and refuse to save anything else. The error messages ("too many documents open" or "disk full") are bogus and obviously not true in the real sense, but serve to worry the user and displace blame away from ms...
Thus it appears that this bug hits cautious users the hardest - as "saving early and saving often" is precisely what makes it happen. You might say "once burned, twice shy, thrice slapped in the face by microsoft."
The solution when the problem hits is to simply copy your changes since the last save (possibly paste them elsewhere), shut down MS Word, reopen it, then just paste your changes into the document, which will still be saved in its previous incarnation. If editing a document, this can be a bit more annoying as the changes might not be a paragraph or two, but rather a whole pile of little changes spread over an entire paper..." (TheMac19)
Hope that helps anyone in the future!

  • How can i save word documents to pages? I have an illegal copy of word but want to upgrade my software so I can utilize i cloud.  I'm a writer and need to preserve my word documents.

I have an illegal copy of word and I want to upgrade my software so I can utilize i cloud.  How can I save my word documents to pages
so that they are not lost in this upgrade?  I do not have the disk to reinstall word after the upgrade.

You might want to post your question in the Pages forum. https://discussions.apple.com/community/iwork/pages
Also if it's the Office 2004 version of Word it won't work in Lion since it's a Power PC program. Office 2008 will work in Lion if it's already installed when you upgrade. But it won't install on Lion because the installer program uses Power PC code. Office 2011 is the only one that will install and work on Lion.

  • DIS installed but can't save Word document in CS

I installed the CIS but can't save Word/Excel/PPT 2003 files using save as. What I do wrong and/or what I missed? There's no info on CIS Install/User Guides.
Using Windows Explorer, everything Works fine.
    Some info:
    UCM: 10.1.3.5.0 (090707) (Build:7.2.4.11)
    DesktopIntegrationSuite 2009_07_02 (8.2.0.959)
    CoreWebdav 2009_06_17 (build 30) br-10g-10.1.3.5-release
    Thanks!

    What did you install?
DIS or CIS - you mention both.
CIS is something quite different that provides an API that exposes the UCM services within J2EE applications.
What you need to install are the Windows client components of DIS. If you do this there is (if I remember rightly) an option in the install wizard about which desktop applications you would like DIS to integrate with (word excel...).
    So either
1.Install DIS (if you have not done so yet)
2.Update your DIS install (just run the installer again or go Settings > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > Change or Remove programs andtick the box for word integration

  • URGENT -- cannot save word document

When I try to save a Word doc on my macbook I get a message that says "too many files are currently open" and the document cannot be saved.  Does anyone know what to do please?

Not sure what the details are but I'll share my experience in case it is relevant. It was similar.
When I upgraded to Office For MAC 2011 it would not let me save. Eventually, I discovered I had to manually delete the older version before the new version would save.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't save Word documents after OS update

I downloaded the most recent OS update today (2-2-12) and now I can't save any MS Word or Excel files. I also lose the ability to close these programs when I try to save, requiring a force quit of the program.

    Hi Wandering and Littleredgto,
I am experiencing exactly the same problems, and I am also still on OS 10.6.8. In my case the problem occurred after the latest security update from 2/1/12.  I did not do a remote client update.

I don't believe so, but you could certainly use Dropbox for the same purpose.

  • Do I need Pages in order to save my word document to the iCloud?

I am new to using iCloud and have been trying to save Word documents to the cloud.  Even when the iCloud has been properly activated on my mac, when I try to save my document within Word, I do not get iCloud as an option in the dropdown menu for locations to save to.  I wasn't sure if I need to purchase Pages in order to save Microsoft Word documents.  That doesn't seem to make sense to me, but I'm not sure what else I might be doing incorrectly.

As long as you are using Mountain Lion (10.8.x) yes, you'll see this:
You will need 2 copies of Pages, one for your Mac and one for the iPad.

  • How to save a word document to word on  ipad

I opened a document from my emails on Microsoft word. I edited the document and now want to save it as the new edited version but how do i do that? If i press the back button i lose everything and i cannot see anything that can help me?
Thank you please help in my problem.

To edit and save word documents you need a document editor. Apple has the Pages app, Micorsoft has their 'free' versions of word for mobile devices (I use the term free loosely because you can download and read for free but if you want to edit and save it requires a yearly subscription to office 365)
Or there are third party document editors out there. I use documents to go (not free ware, around $10-20 I believe) and there are other free document editors.
You would find a document editor of your choosing, save from your mail into that app. Edit, save and then export or 'send' back out of that app to the mail app.

  • How to prevent public users from creating and saving Word Documents

I have two public computers available for the public to view legal case documents.  The program used uses the Word shell to save, view and print documents within the program.  The clerk has stated that she does not want attorneys or others to
be able to create and save word documents on these computers.  Is there a way to prevent a user on the public computers from opening word, creating a document and saving it?

Instead of installing Word on the public computer (or at least instead of making it available on the public account), you could install the free Word Viewer:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=4 and make that available for the public account. Alternatively, if you want to ensure the document retains its originally
formatting regardless of what printer may or may not be attached to the public computer, you could keep only PDF copies of the file where the public can access them and install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing:
    https://get.adobe.com/reader/.

  • Converting a document with multiple links to a word document

I am trying to convert a PDF file with multiple links to a word document.  When the conversion is complete and the document is saved as a word document I cannot access the links - I keep getting error messages or messages that say a program is not associated with the link.

    Hi laytonbarb,
    We would like to help!
Are they hyperlinks? If so - you will want to insert the links back in. If they are full links do they match the links on the pdf?
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
