Saved Mail Folder

This is the third time that the Saved mail folder has gone. This is in my internet providers account.
The first and second time, it reapeared a few weeks later, but not all the mail was there. This thrid time it happened yesterday after about 21 updates from Microsoft.
How to I get it back on my mail page?
Peg

Hi,
You need to talk with your ISP. They may ONLY keep users emails for a number of days (say few weeks). Why not use Outlook (old Hotmail, old Windows Live mail - not Outlook in Office suite), Yahoo, Gmail .... I've never used ISP mail box because I may change ISP from time to time.
Good luck.

  • Erased&Reinstalled SL. Replaced Saved Mail Folder. Asked To Setup Account?

Yesterday I completely erased my iMac and reinstalled OSX 10.6.0
I then put my old Mail Folder from Time Machine into my user Library.
I expected to open Mail and see all my accounts etc. as normal but instead I got the Welcome window asking me to create an account.
As I had been on OSX 10.6.2 and Mail 4.2 before the erase and install, and my new Mail app was only version 4.0, I thought the problem might be due to the OS and the new Mail being too early versions, so I updated to OSX 10.6.3 and up to Mail 4.2 but still can't get rid of the Welcome window.
Can I get all my old accounts and saved emails to appear or do I have to recreate my accounts . . . . . . I'm sure that's not necessary?

    Hi
Apple Mail - unlike Entourage which stores everything in one place - stores Mail in the /Users/Home/Lirary Mail Folder. Account information is stored in /Users/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Copy this over and the Welcome Assistant should not run and you should see all your accounts. I can't remember now but I think the only think that's not retained is the password.
However if you used the Welcome Assistant to configure your account exactly as it was before the account should 'locate' the relevant Mail folders anyway. I've done this numerous times and either method should work. The important thing is to know your account details if you've somehow lost the com.apple.mail.plist. It's a good to know (or have written down) Mail Account User IDs, Passwords and incoming/outgoing mail server names just in case.

  • "On My Mac" saved mail gone since upgrading to Mountain Lion

I upgraded my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion this past week. Mail worked fine for a few days and then my Mail Rules and my "On My Mac" saved mail (DECADES worth of mail!!!) disappeared.
I have both a Time Machine backup of my Snow Leopard from right before the upgrade, as well as a SuperDuper clone.
I have already tried the following:
Rebuilding the mailbox (it rebuilt my Inbox, but nothing showed up "On My Mac" and no, nothing is hidden.
Copying the Mail folder from my Snow Leopard backup to my Mountain Lion desktop and copying the .mbox files and associated .plist files for the "On My Mac" saved mail into the "Mailbox" folder in V2 on Mountain Lion. When I then launched Mail it showed "On My Mac" and the names of all of my saved mail folder, but those folders were empty. I attempted to rebuild those folders, but nothing showed up.
Importing the .mbox files from the "On My Mac" saved mail, but it only showed two Sent Items folders as being able to be imported. None of my actual "On My Mac" many saved mail folders.
I could really use some help here. I have already posted on Macintouch and nothing suggested has helped thus far.
I really cannot lose my saved mail. The contents of each of those .mbox saved mail folders absolutely contains my saved email. There are tons of "emlx" files.
    Thanks!

    Misery loves company. ;-)
Glad you found yours. What did you do to make it show up in Mail again?
I just got off the phone with Apple support and still have no resolution. I got kicked up one level and now that person has to kick it up again because they don't know how to fix my problem. I have been told it could be up to 48 hours until I hear from someone again. Ugh
Your mention of the "archive" folder sent me to look at my mailbox structure.
For some reason, I appear to have 2 mailboxes for my .Mac email (sorry - I still call it .Mac!). I don't know why, and each has 1GB of stuff in it. The first one has an archive.mbox with only a .plist in it. No folders. The other one has neither a .plist nor a folder. The other .mbox stuff has both a .plist and a folder with individual files (emails).
I really shouldn't have to revert to Snow Leopard to get my stuff back. There has got to be a way to have Mountain Lion Mail read my Saved Mail (On My Mac) folder. It's got 3GB of stuff in there.

  • Does anyone have any efficient techniques for saving mail on more than one machine and in the cloud (I need offline access). Trying to avoid endless message copying.

I've been in an administrative job at my university, in which I needed to be able to access lots of past email conversations.  I ended up saving *everything* religiously, by copying each email or conversation into an "On My Mac" folder on either my home or office machine, flagging it as copied, then unflagging it and moving it to a like folder on the other machine. As a result I'v now got a trillion folders for various aspects of my job, filled with quite a few messages that I probably no longer even need, but they're way too many to go through and delete one by one.  Unfortunately, I haven't made much use of the iCloud folders, but I'm so tired of having to essentially manually sync my stored mail in the manner I just described, that I'm thinking of starting to file everything to iCloud folders.  The downside of that is that obviously if the internet is down and a given folder wasn't refreshed before it went down, I won't have access to the saved mail.
Moreover, I'm about to step down from the admin post -- within about 6 months a lot of what I saved won't be needed at all, and going forward, I won't need to save nearly the same quantity of messages for later reference.  I'd like to come up with some viable "triage" strategies for limiting the mail I do save.
This is really just an open question:  Does anyone have any good mail filing and storage techniques that you'd be willing to share?  I'm especially interested in criteria you use for what you save and don't save, and where/how you save it.

Well, the one set up on exchange 2k3 is now working fine, although no changes were made on either the iPhone or the exchange side, so that's fun, but it still is throwing errors when connecting to the other 2 exchange accounts. The common elements are that both non-functioning exchange accounts are google apps for business accounts. So is one of the ones that's working, by the way. The settings on both accounts are the same as the one that's working, and both worked fine before the 8.3 upgrade. I have no issue accessing both of these accounts on my ipad which is currently on 8.2.x. If it's not the iphone OS at fault, I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

  • How can I add a Mail folder with the "Inbox, Sent, and Trash" folders?  I have Windows 8.1

After I installed the 7.0.6 update, my iPhone crashed & had to do a restart.  I saved my Contacts.  I've been syncing my iPhone to store data on my PC instead of iCloud.  I'm assuming all of my pictures etc. are in the iPod Photo Cache, which I cannot open since they are THMB files.  How can I view all of my "lost" data without having to pay for the "Converter" program, which according to many of the people in my boat, say doesn't work & is a rip off?  I'm also trying to put an "Archive" folder back in my Mail folder.  I've tried to follow instructions but my iPhone 7.1 does not have the same options.  All of this is so frustrating.....load an upgrade & screws a lot of stuff up.  Just like "Trust this computer?" on 7.0.6 update.  Anyway, I hope someone can help with these minor problems.
    Thank you.

Not in Mail. If you referring to not having to use the menu, you can click the + sign at the bottom to create new mailboxes. But you still have to fill in the window with location and name. You can right click to create a new mailbox on an existing one, but not in the main account itself and you still have to fill in the info. It would create a sub folder.
You can also try it at the gmail website. There might be shortcuts there.

  • Mail folder question

When Mail was corrupted, I saved the library mail folder to desktop before deleting the prefs.
I've successfully reimported that Mail folder contents back into mail.

  • Missing "Read Mail" Folder

I had trouble with my Mac yesterday and lost all application preferences. I used to have a "Read Mail" file set up within mail where I would move messages I wished to keep. Is there a data file that was storing these messages? If so, how can I restore or reopen this file?
    Power Mac G4, 867 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Does such a power outage or spikes occur very often in your area?
If so, you should consider investing in a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) which I would do with a Desktop regardless.
In addition, nothing is better protection than maintaining a regular backup and preferably a bootable clone backup saved to an external firewire drive.
That being said, when you first launched Mail after the power outage and were prompted to re-enter all account information, were you also prompted to import any mailboxes?
All Mail.app data is stored in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail. All user created "On My Mac" location mailboxes, locally stored mailboxes for a .Mac or IMAP type account, any imported mailboxes and the Outbox mailbox which is shared by all accounts are located in the Mailboxes folder at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes.
Check if this Read Mail mailbox is available. It should be a Read Mail.mbox named folder.

  • Trouble saving mail attachments

Lately I have problems saving mail attachments: I first need to shorten the title and then the file does not show up in the folder I saved it too. When I want to create new folders to save attachments in, I can't because of a read-only issue. Any suggestions?

  • Something wrong with my email it keep eat up my hard drive.  how can i get into the system and delete the mail folder

how can I delete the mail folder in the hard drive.. it keep redownload the emails and eat up my hard drive

If you have your mail set up as an IMAP account, then it will download everything that is in your Inbox (on the online site/server) again and again. You can move your emails to another folder online after you've read them or you can also delete them online after you've saved the ones you want to keep.
If you have your mail set up as a POP account, emails are downloaded once and then reside on your hard drive; you can indicate in Mail Preferences > Accounts if you want the messages online deleted immediately or after one week, etc.

    Hi Michael
    Welcome to the forum.
Do you have Stuffit installed and are saving to the desktop?
Because in that case it is Stuffit decompressing the Pages document's package.
Just save to your document folder.

  • Sent Mail folder empty after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard

    Hi,
Many thanks in advance for your attention.
    Writing for a friend:
This is for their PowerPC G5. Running OS 10.5. Mail - version 3.
When they upgraded from Tiger to Leopard (not an Erase and Install), their Sent Mail folder in Mail was empty of any sent mail.
However, I can see they have sent mail in their Home/Library/Mail folder.
How to I get Sent Mail in Mail to see this?
(Drag and drop does not seem to work. I tried to drag and drop one saved mail from the Home Library/Mail folder into the Sent Mail folder in Mail and it didn't take).
They have only one email account.
    Thank you,
    - Ross

    Lonnie, thanks
Mailbox behaviors set up exactly as you describe, "Store sent messages on server" is checked and "Delete" set "Never".
    Rebuild doesn't really help.
I use Kerio 6.0.6 mail server, with IMAP (143) for incoming and SMTP (25) for sending.
And it works already like four or five years without problems.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.
    Leo.

  • Sent message doesn't appear in sent mail or any other mail folder.  I only know I sent it because it comes back with the reply.  What gives?

Today I sent a message on the Mail program that did not appear in the Sent messages or any other Mail folder.  I  know I sent it only because it was included in a reply that came back.  Didn't happen with any other messages I sent today (or any others that I can recall).  What gives?  I used to have complete faith in my Sent folder.  Thanks and apologies in advance if similar queries have been answered recently or multiple times.  I'm having a hard time getting used to this new support format.

Will sent messages now be saved on my computer,
    Hopefully.
will they be accessible on my other devices that are linked wirelessly through Mobileme?
    No!
If so, that's what I wanted anyway.  But I never thought about this box in Mailbox behavior, as I tend to go with default settings, and I'm no computer expert as you can tell.
Also, now that I've changed the setting, will previous Sent messages continue to be stored on the server?
It will only apply to new messages. Try it out and see if you can see your Sent messages. If you want them to be accessible on other devices, you will have to change the setting back. Just changing the setting a couple of times may get the online account working properly, so don't be afraid to play around with it.
If this is a MobileMe account, I would expect it to work properly. Try it in local mode. Then switch it back to server mode. Rebuild your send mailbox. Maybe after all of that it will be working better.

  • How to restore Mail Inbox from backed up Library: Mail folder?

I deleted my email account and recreated it to attempt to resolve some bizarre behavior with the Trash folder. Prior to deleting the account, I copied my Library:Mail and Library:Mail Downloads folders to my desktop.
I would like to restore the 100+ emails from my Inbox only, as all my other folders remained intact and appear to be fine. Could someone please refer me to an article or offer instructions to copy back to correct file to refill my inbox?
    I am on a MacBook Pro OS X (10.5.5) with Mail 3.5.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Wynne

I appreciate your rapid response. So if I understand you correctly, I use this restore/import feature and it will return all my inbox messages, as well as creating duplicates of all my Mailboxes and those emails?
What if I delete the folder files from my backup, so all it will have to restore are the emails in the inbox? In the Mail folder, there is a Mailboxes subfolder containing folders and .mbox files for each of my Mail folders (which remained intact and do not need restored).
Wouldn't it make since if I move the saved Mailboxes folder to another location on my Desktop, the import feature will not see them and only restore the inbox? I just dont want to corrupt any folders and have to back up and restore and delete/add my mail account again?
    What do you think?
    Thank you,
