SaveEPSOptions CS3/CS4/CS5 file size

I have a script which saves multiple files as EPS format, and everything works well under CS3 and CS5, but when run in CS4, the file size is about 3X the size of the other versions. (1.3M in CS4; 300-400k in CS3/CS5). Is this a known issue in CS4, or is there some way I can work around this (other than checking the application version and disallowing saving in CS4)? Below are the saveEPSOptions I am using:
var saveEPSOptions = new EPSSaveOptions
saveEPSOptions.cmykPostScript = true
saveEPSOptions.compatibility = Compatibility.ILLUSTRATOR12
saveEPSOptions.embedAllFonts = true
saveEPSOptions.includeDocumentThumbnails = true
saveEPSOptions.preview = EPSPreview.TRANSPARENTCOLORTIFF
saveEPSOptions.saveMultipleArtboards = false // Added for CS4/CS5

Don't know how to answer your last comment, only in terms of what I want it to do, which is to create an editable file that the layers can be changed, textures altered or added to the basic image background.

Nobody can tell you that. CS2 activation was turned off because of bugs in the software that made it too difficult to maintain. so far no such thing has been the case with the otehr versions. Either way, if and when that time comes surely Adobe will let you know and provide a solution...

  • CS4 Illustrator file size

I'm trying to create a beading pattern on Illustrator but in creating a "sequin" brush with a rasterised jpeg graphic, I have created what appears to be a "monster-sized" file which cannot now be edited, even to change the view. I have tried saving the file without pdf, compression on and even saved as CS3 format but still cannot now edit it at all. I think I have a CS5 suite to upgrade but don't want to lose my previous files or bother to upgrade if the problem of file size will still be there after the upgrade. Any clues? Thanks

  • CS3 to CS5 File Conversion

We are in the process of upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5.  With all of the discussions about backwards compatibility issues, my concern is what will happen with a open my CS3 files in CS5.5.  How much will I lose in the process?  Like other discussions threads, we too had to make decisions about when we had the resources to upgrade and by the time the resources were available, CS4 was no longer an option.
An user's feedback on this would be appreciated.

I've never had any problem selecting text from older versions of Illustrator (e.g., CS3 to CS5). If it's Illustrator pre-Creative Suite, there was a change in the text engine about 8 years ago. It's explained in this article:

  • CS3 CS4 CS5 backwards compatible or just backwards?

Have just spent over a month talking with Adobe "Customer Service" - an offshore call centre whose entire capability seems to be to read from a script which says "Sir I understand your problem" - really? - "But all I can suggest is that you purchase CS5" - I had already! - "Or visit our online community".
Over a month - I may include the thread here - including a dozen telephone calls where I was occasionally hung up on and where I NEVER ONCE spoke with a technician who actually understood my problem.
I have client video projects stretching all the way back to Premiere CS2.
When I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 (on PC) I was told to "start all my video projects from scratch" - that was the helpful answer from the Adobe "Customer Service" team! It appears as though the way CS4 handles native media formats is entirely non-compatible with CS3 or earlier.
Two months ago I purchased a Mac and CS5 suite. Again, my CS3 projects are not compatible it seems. One month ago my PC died.
I began a dialog with Adobe "Customer Service" looking for help.
I own Production Suite or Master Suite in CS2, CS3, CS4 and CS5 - so I'm not a software pirate - and have a reasonable expectation that I should attract a certain level of support: specifically, I would like to exchange my CS3 PC software for CS3 Mac - seems like the best way to run those older projects - BUT I would gladly take any advice you can provide!!
After over a month talking with a range of "Customer Service" people ranging from well-meaning but un-trained to straight-ahead rude people, I've been told to go buy the software somewhere else!
Adobe CS3 for Mac ships new from $800 to $1500 from eBay.
Boot Camp is an option since I own CS3 for PC but then I need to buy Windows and a Parallel software solution - also around $1200.
I no longer feel like such an evangelist for IP - when this is the service you get as a Genuine Adobe Customer.
I love using Adobe products but am disgusted at the total lack of service.
    Can anybody help?

Going from Windows to MAC with AVI, WMV, and converted VOB's (if done) may cause some funny things to happen.
I think I would check up what CODEC's those AVI and converted VOB's are using, and check if your MAC supports them, and also check if your MAC supports WMV.
"basically every kind of media you can import to PP" is probably different on Windows than it is on MAC.

  • CS5: File size issue?!

I am currently trying Photoshop CS5 and found some issues regarding memory and file size.
One issue shows up as following:
Opened a 21MP photo via Camera Raw as Smart Object, used Noise Reduction Filter and saved this one Layer image as PSD without maximum
compatibility turned on. Filesize: 222.626KB (~222MB, which is quite big i thought to myself).
Then rasterized this Smart Object and saved the image again. Filesize: 84.164KB (~84MB, which is more to my likings).
Again converted the Layer into a Smart Object, Smart Sharpened it and saved it. Filesize: 258.302KB (~258MB).
Of course i usually do not switch between rasterized layers and smart objects all the time, this was just for demonstration purposes.
Something seems strange here, why is the smart object three times larger on disk then the rasterized version?
Is it because i use a trial version???

Printing to PDF from the print box is an OS process - it takes the printer data that Photoshop sends and creates PDF from it.
Photoshop CS5 does use the newer Cocoa printing APIs, which could cause changes in the output (due to differences in Apple's code).
For saving PDF, I really suggest you just save the file as PDF from Photoshop and skip the print dialog.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 File sizes are huge!

    Try this:
    open a new Illustrator document
create a simple box, black stroke, white fill
    save the file
you're looking at something like 1 Mb for these 4 anchor points and the fill and stroke definition!
now, back in Illustrator, downsave to Illustrator 3 format
file size is in around 6Kb - much better!
Okay, I know we can disable ICC profile embedding, PDF compatibility etc, but none of that even comes remotely close to the "correct" file size of < 10Kb.
C'mon Adobe, what are you putting in that CS5 file that's so darned important? This isn't a complex illustration with gradient masks, 3D transforms and thousands of points.
I get it, everyone has terrabyte drives and high-speed internet. Is that an excuse to make really inefficient file formats?

    hmmmm......
As Monika pointed out... deleting the defualt library items will make files sizes drastically smaller.
I'd guess that version 3, since it lacked the ability to work in preview mode, didn't save file previews with the file either... that could easily account for 50kb.

  • Réinstallation Photoshop CS3+CS4+CS5  & Lightroom 2 & 3

    Bonjour,

  • PP3 CS3 EXPORT HALF FILE SIZE ONLY ,SHRINKEN FILES FIT SINGLE LAYER DVD ONLY

    Hi!
I've regently upgraded up PP3 CS3 , Which was exported half of the files size only . I created 1 hour video/audio project on PP3 , then EXport to Encore CS3 , and check Encode setting , at the bottom right side ( ESTIMATE FILE SIZE) is about 2200 MG .Event I switched Sinle layer or Dual layer the files size Estimated the same amounth .
I created anather 2 hour video/audio project,Exprt to Encore cs3 , Estimate file size about 4 gitbite , It fited single layer 4.7 dvd only
The DVD quality play back on DVD player is only half of the original footage .
Encore cs3 is the same issue , when I forced double file to 8 gibite to burn dual layer DVD . It got error (unlimited of disc).
I could not find any setting to make it work on PP3 cs3 and Encore cs3
I have previous PP2 , It could not build straigh 2 hour DVD , But It could make 1 hour each time with original my footage or very close I'm happy with that ,Build ISO folder , each file is about 4 gibite then I used 3rd party software NERO 7. put 2 DVD together about 8 gibite and burn to Dual layer DVD
I red manual book on page 42 encore cs3 , they do not make daul layer
I paid upgraded PP3 CS3 and paid full price Encore 3 . They 're not worth what I invested ,
Any help will be wellcome . Thank you

    Hi Millaard
I repeated again build my project in PP3 1 hour and 8 munite long video , Exprot Encore , I selected following setting as Type : DVD doule layer,
    Direct burn without menus
Encoding setting : Preset :NTSC progressive high quality
    or Medium qality
Video codec : Main concept MPEG VIDEO
    Birates setting : VBR , 1 pass
    minimum : 1.5
    target : 4.
    Max : 7.
    GOP : M frame 3
    M frame 15
Estimate files size : 2684.98 Mb
That 's all the setting I did , Whatever I swicthed single layer or double layer , the export file estimate no change .
If I tried longer video 2 hour , the estaimate file size is about 4. MG ,PP3 shrinken video file to fit single layer DVD 4.7 . The file size of 2 hour dvd good quality is about 8 gibite for dual layer DVD
The other option in PP3 did not work for any 3rd party sofwarer ,
It did not build ISO folder , and MPEG2 dvd did not build Video-ts at the root of dvd folder ,and both video and audio is splited could not use third party software , they exprot to Encore cs3 only
Then Encore did not burn more than 4.7 single dvd for 2 hour long half of quality
Millaar ; Please tell me what's your setting? and how many mb did you build on sing or dual layer ? Have you tried any yet ? Thank you

  • Flash CS6 vs CS4 SWF file size

    Hi,
I've been working on updating some banners built with CS4 in CS6 over the last two days and have seen a dramatic increase in the exported file size from CS6 over the original versions with minimal changes to content (text edits, same fonts). As a comparison, I looked at a 160x600 banner from CS4 with a filesize of 34,540 bytes and the same file when exported from CS6 is 41,057. I tried using the LZMA compression yesterday and that helped, but this is only applicable on Flash Player 11+ and the banners had to be saved at 10 or lower.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening? I've wasted half a day recompressing the files down via 6 to get them out the door. Am I better off using CS4 for this stuff? Could it be a legacy file issue and I wouldn't see it if I built from scratch in CS6?
We checked out size reports and noticed that there was a difference in the font weight in both banners, this could account for part of it, but it was the same fonts in both so not sure why this is happening but it is very frustrating.

Didn't look at the file size of the FLA, just the SWF as I didn't even necessarily resave the CS4 as CS6. No edits were made, I tried it with a simple open and publish just to make sure I wasn't doing anything to change the file and the resulting file was heavier (kb).
I looked through the size reports and saw that while image compression was better in the CS6 version, the fonts were all heavier than they were in the CS4 version and this put it over the 40kb limit.

  • Media Encoder CS4 output file size varies--why??

I was batch encoding several files yesterday, and one of the files failed. Adobe Media Encoder provided no details, other than when I hover over the yellow exclamation point error icon, it says: "Error compiling movie. Unknown error." Very insightful.
Today I reprocessed the file same file with the same preset [FLV - Same As Source (Flash 7 and Higher)] and it worked fine. To check for instability on my machine, I actually ran the same job 10 times, and each job succeeded. But the curious thing is, even though I was using the same input file and output preset, I see that the output files vary in size. The output sizes are:
    30,739,977 bytes
    30,750,834 bytes
    30,750,504bytes
    30,750,654bytes
    30,739,928bytes
    30,740,044bytes
    30,750,615bytes
    30,740,001bytes
    30,739,979bytes
    30,750,637bytes
Now I understand that this variation is less than 10kB on a 30MB file, so it's prety small. But I am curious as to why the file size would vary in this way.
    Any ideas?

I would guess that you are overclocking your cpu and the cooler is not able to make the cpu cool enough and some calculations can go wrong. There are programs that put the cpu in a high load and check if it's running properly as expected. Give them a try.

  • Place .jpg from PS CS3 to IllusCS3-File size question

    Newbie here- Good Morning
I am creating a doc in Illustrator that will ultimately be saved as a pdf for online viewing.  In PS, I am increasing the images ppi from 72 to 300 as well as decreasing it's size, saving it at medium quality jpg and I get a file size around 175k(perfect for me).  When I place the image in Illustrator and save the file, I get an overall document file size increase of over 800k.
Is there any way to avoid this?
    Thanks!

It sounds as if you are embedding the image rather than linking it.
Either drag the image from the Finder or Bridge or else File-Place and check Link.
(If you drag from the Finder with Shift held down it will be embedded.)
There's usually no need to embed images unless you're prepraring HiRes pdf files for print, in which case it's best to leave the embedding until just before you save as pdf. Failure to embed images in print files may result in white horizontal lines cutting through the images.

  • Flash CS5 File Size 1800% larger than CS3/4

We have 500+ FLAs that are essentially a sequence of PNGs loaded into the timeline, with a bit of AS3 code thrown in for the controller.
If we import the PNGs into a new, empty Flash CS3/4 document, add the document class and save the file, the resulting .fla is approx. 800Kb.
If we import the PNGs into a new, empty Flash CS5 document, add the doc class and save the file, the resulting .fla is 18Mb.
The resulting Published SWFs are within 1Kb of each other regardless of version, so it's clearly nothing to do with the content or the exporter.
Anyone know what's going on? This has just jumped our storage requirements through the roof.
    Thanks
    T

Update: in case anyone asks, the total size of all PNG assets is about 2.5Mb. Clearly CS3/4 is using some kind of RLE compression on the PNGs, which is fine. But that doesn't account for the additional 16Mb. What the heck is CS5 throwing in there?

  • How to uninstall old versions of CS3, CS4, CS5 of Bridge, Device Central, and Extension Manager

    I have the following files:
    Adobe Bridge CS3
    Adobe Bridge CS4
    Adobe Bridge CS5.1
    Adobe Device Central CS3
    Adobe Device Central CS4
    Adobe Device Central CS5
    Adobe Device Central CS5.5
    Adobe Extension Manager CS4
    Adobe Extension Manager CS5
    Adobe Extension Manager CS5.5
I want to delete the old versions of these files, but Adobe says I need to use the installers in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers, but there are no relevant files in that folder. Any ideas on how to do this properly on a Mac.

That is correct Dancingjewel.  Migrating/transferring/copying Adobe applications is not supported and often leads to unexpected behavior.  To resolve this you will want to attempt to completely remove the current installations utilizing the CC Cleaner Tool and then reinstall.  If you need a fresh copy of the installation files they are available at Other downloads.

  • Adobe cs3 cs4 cs5 permission error under Mac OSX

When I upgraded my Mac, I just used the time machine to recorver all of my preferences. Everything worked great except for Adobe Illustrator CS3 which would not start (license error).
I tried removing it and then install version CS4 (genuine copy) and it was not working. After much struggle, I realize the problem was that I did not have writing permission on the file
    /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet\ Publisher/FLEXnet
Simply try to copy a file to this folder to see if you have the same problem. Whatever I did then, I could not change the permissions to this folder (nor could Adobe special scripts) or the Folder Info panel.
This folder had extra attribute (@ sign in front of the file name when using a ls -ali in a terminal) and it turned out that these attributes were related to the time machine. I simply put the folder "FLEXnet\ Publisher" to the trash (had to enter the root password) and recreated manually this folder and the FLEXnet subfolder.
Then both Adobe CS3 and CS4 could run

I don't see a question in your post... but I feel your FLEXnet pain. At least you didn't have to feed it the serial number off your hard drive.
