  • Can I use Reader X to draw freeform lines on documents I "saved as PDF" from Word?

I would like to use the feature described as follows on the Adobe website: "Review documents with a complete set of commenting tools such as sticky notes, highlighting, lines, shapes, and stamps."
According to the website, Adobe Reader X can use this feature if the PDF has had that option enabled when it was created in more full-featured version of Acrobat.
I would like to know, Does a document that I've saved as a PDF from Word (using Save As) count as having that feature enabled?
    Thank you,
    James

With PDF files created using Word(Save As), you can only add sticky notes and use highlighting.
You will have to use Adobe ACrobat to create a PDF with has Commenting enabled for Reader also.

  • Saving as PDF, from Word documents - not good quality?

Why is it that when i create letterheads, adn i save as pdf this word document, it comes out such poor quality?
Is there a setting to save with high quality output from acrobat, word to pdf or also how about print pdf?
Is anyone able to help us out?
    Thankyou,
    Gana85

You are on the Illustrator forum how does this relte to illustrator?
Are you ceating artwork in Illustrator and then inserting it into Word?
This is what I suggest Visit the Acrobat Forum or a Microsoft Word forum if there is one and ask there.
Or you can purchase ID or Illustrator and use them to create your letterhead.

  • Italic headings when saving as PDF in Word 2007. Don't want italic headings...

I'm using the Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin for Word 2007. After months of successful 'Save As - PDF or XML', my PDFs are suddenly displaying italic headings: h1, h2, h3, h4, etc. My Word source file has regular headings just as intended.
If I elect to print the doc - instead of Save As - and select Adobe PDF as the printer, the PDF is fine, no italic headings, but the reason we started using the Addin is because the conversion to PDF using print broke all of our hyperlinks.
Anyone have a clue why my headings are being converted to italic using the Acrobat Addin in Word 2007?
Any clue why using the print PDF would break our hyperlinks?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

    Hello AbhigyanModi.
Thanks for the reply. I finally solved that problem I was having with all myheadings displaying in italics in the PDFs generated from Word 2007. It's related to Service Pack 3 on Windows XP.
Microsoft includes an update to the Arial Black font (v2.40) with SP3. This new font is the root of this particular problem. The fix is to delete the new font and replace it with the old font, which is saved in an uninstall backup file.
Go to C:\WINDOWS\Fonts and delete the Arial Black file: ariblk.ttf (v2.40).
Go to C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$, find ariblk.ttf (v2.35), and copy and paste it into C:\WINDOWS\Fonts
It doesn't seem to affect everybody who uses XP SP3, but if they wake up one day with the problem where there had never been a problem before  - like I did - that's the fix.

  • Automate saving a PDF as Word in Acrobat X

I'm searching through all the api docs and can't find anything that would allow me to open an existing PDF and save it as a Word document. I have thousands of PDF's to convert and need to write some code to automate the process. We receive a few hundred new PDF's each day and don't want to have someone manually opening up Acrobat Pro and doing the conversion. Is there any way to do this?
Our solution would preferably be written in C# using VS2010.
    Thanks!

Before you start coding, you should read the Acrobat EULA VERY carefully
as the use of Acrobat in a fully automated fashion for multiple users is
    not necessarily permitted.

In converting a .docx file to .pdf the the Word functionality of linking screen tips to hyperlinks is lost. Why?  How can screen tips be saved in pdf if at all?

Thanks for replying. I am converting from MS Office Word document to Adobe Acrobat Document and opening with Reader XI - sorry my mistake.
I now notice another problem. On trying to open a specific hyperlink in the pdf version I get the message  'Acrobat does not allow connection to: www.biblegateway.com'.  Why would there be a restriction?

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
Open Console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & next startup for clues.

  • Help with working on Word files that were created in Framemaker and saved as PDF

Please help. I was given a pdf from a vendor that they created in Framemaker. The pdf was 2+MB. I saved it as a Word doc so I could delete sections that I don't need for our folks but the file is saving at over 20MB (after I deleted a lot of pages from it). It is so large that I cannot even email it. I've tried to zip it and also convert it back to a pdf and in both cases the file only decreases by a few hundred KB while still leaving it over 20+MB. Any idea how I can work this file to take the sections I need without it creating such a large file size? Thank you. Brian

The contractual requirements between the vendor and your company may be the key. The contract may or may not discuss whether the vendor's permission to modify the material includes an obligation to make the documents usable. "Usable" may be construed to mean providing original files. If the vendor is required to provide originals, they may or may not be required to provide them in a common format, like MS Word, rather than the proprietary FrameMaker format they use. Their providing a PDF may completely satisfy their obligation; your lawyers may be helpful here.

I did ask them for the source file but they haven't been forthcoming with that. I may look into the evaluation copy of FM anyway but considering the price ($868 USD through our catalogue supplier) I doubt I would be able to get a licensed copy once the evaluation runs out. I do appreciate the suggestion though. Thank you. Brian

  • Word crashes mid PDF creation - Word 2003 Acrobat 9.3.0

I have a new PC and a fresh clean install of CS5 Design Permuim, including Arobat 9. The organisation is still using Office 2003 and no upgrade path in sight for that. Myself and several colleagues with the same software profile are now experiencing frequent problems with Word crashing mid PDF creation.
This has always been an issue with the ocassional Word file in Acrobat 8, but Distiller always worked as an alternative - NOT this time!
PDF Maker gives no error message, just that Word has encounted a problem and needs to close.
Distiller produces the following log message, then freezes completely. I then have to force quit Word to exit!
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: --nostringval-- ]%%
    Stack:
    /mF_OTF_V
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Not all documents are affected, but I can remove almost all of the content from the affected document and it still causes the error.
I have tried repairing Acrobat - no change.
One other odd symptom - after each crash, the default printer on the machine has changed to Adobe PDF.
I can successfulkly make the PDF on another machine which has not been upgraded to Acrobat 9. The rest of the settings are identical on the two machines, they are both running a standard organisation environment, with the same verion of word etc.
Can anyone suggest how to fix or at least isolate the cause of the problem?

Please update to latest Acrobat 9 release which is 9.4.2.
    Also do let us know
    a) office 2003 flavour: Standard or professional?
    b) OS flavour? Also whether it is 32bit or 64bit?
Also as you mentioned that "Not all documents are affected", so we would require any of your affected file to analyze the issue. Can you please share the file? You can use acrobat.com to share the file.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • MS Word Crashes after saving document

I'm using MS Office 2011. After upgrading my Macbook Pro to OS X 10.9.4, my Microsoft Word (version 14.4.3) crashes after saving a Word document. I've tried using Word in Safe Boot and the same crashing happens after two or three saves to the Word document I'm working on. I've also tried emptying the AutoRecovery folder, and moving the files "com.microsoft.Word.plist" and "Normal" to the desktop. All to no avail. Word still crashes after two or three saves to the document. Please help! It's so frustrating to lose the changes I'm making in a document due to Word crashing after saving.

First test in a new User to verify that Office is now working correctly in another User. Log into Guest User or create a new User in System Preferences.
If the problem goes away, the problem is in your User's account.
If the problem exists in the new User.... you need to reinstall Office.
Be sure to fully update after reinstalling.
Be sure you have your CD Key for activation.
Updaters have to be applied in order. Depending on what version installer you have, there are only two combo updaters that you might need.
(If you have an early installer you'll first need to update to 14.1.0)
Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Service Pack 1 (14.1.0)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17198
(Later installers installed 14.2 or higher.)
Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.4.3 Update (requires 14.1.0 or newer)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=43378
    Install Basics
Not only should Safari be quit but all browsers and hidden Microsoft processes like the Microsoft Database daemon and SyncServicesAgent. To disable these applications:
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
Log in and hold down the Shift key (this disables all startup items including the hidden ones)
Restart after installing 14.1.0 and again after installing 14.4.3
Note for the MAU and MERP updaters you do NOT have to restart after updating. These are found in the root Library:
    /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/
    Why Restart?
The Restart after updater will force a file that stores the version info to update. This should happen automatically but sometimes it doesn't. The next updater will fail and you will have to re-install Office. The restart is a quick step that will save time in the long term.

  • MS Word crash when exporting to PDF, and font style is bold

If i try to convert a doc file to PDF from Microsoft Word using fonts like Times New Roman, everything works fine; by using a font like Myriad Pro, Minion pro, etc. if i use even a single word in BOLD style, with other plain text, during export Word crashes, faulting in module pscript5.dll.
    Any information about this problem?
    Thanks.

    >issue with the latest version of Acrobat and not previous versions?
I certainly don't work for Adobe, so this is only a GENERAL comment, based on many years experience with many different programs from several vendors
When a program goes from 8.0 to 8.1 it is usually bug fixes but no major changes to the actual source code
When a program goes from 7.0 to 8.0 that usually indicates major changes in function AND in the source code to create the program
As an application programmer (used to be COBOL, now in a different job and use MS Access) I know that any program with more than a few hundred lines of source code WILL have problems
When you consider that Acrobat is most likely written in C/C++ and will most likely have MANY thousands of lines of source code... it is not at all surprising that it went from 8.0 to 8.1.0 to 8.1.1
It would not surprise me at all if Acrobat's routines for checking and using fonts had changes in that part of the source code... and IF that happened it MAY be that font handling is either "stricter" and that leads to "catching" a font that is "marginal" in operation... or that the error trapping routine changed and is causing a problem
I personally have no idea if a corrupt font is your problem, but it does not surprise me at all that a 7.0 to 8.0 program change COULD introduce changes in the way fonts are processed

  • How do I upload my resume when it's saved in Pages but needs to be send as a PDF or word file?

How do I upload a document that has been created using pages as a PDF or Word file? When I attempt to upload it, the only choices I get are choices from my camera!!

Tap on the wrench/spanner in the upper right of the document & then "Share & Print." You can then e-mail the document but I'm not sure how to upload to a web site from an iPad.

  • Saving a pdf file in word

How do I save a pdf file in word?

    Hi heritage authors,
I'm afraid I'll need a little clarification here. Are you wanting to save a PDF in Word format? Or convert a file in Word to PDF?
For the former, you can use the ExportPDF online service (or Acrobat). For the latter, you can use Acrobat. (Although later versions of Word have their own PDF generator.)
If you'd like to give Acrobat a try, you're more than welcome. You can download a free trial from the link I reference above.
