Saving forms Acrobat 9

Hi All. I have created numerous forms using Acrobat 9 Pro and I have extended reader rights so that they can be filled in and saved. When i download these forms from our server i can write into them and save. If i open this file again i am no longer able to write into it and save. Is this normal or have i not ticked some box when creating the file. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated because I'm going round in circles with this one. Thanks in advance Graham Carson

At the moment it's only me because the site hasn't gone live yet so i am creating the forms and then uploading to our server then downloading and opening in reader 8. When i initially download its running through Acrobat 9 pro - i then save to my local disk, go to open in reader 8 and then it says i can't save into the form. If it makes a difference i am using the server side to combine PDF files (with the forms in them) so that i effectively just download 1 file. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong.

  • Saving forms Acrobat X

    Hello all
    Got a really frustrating problem which should be simple, but isnt...
    Acrobat Pro X (Trial) created a form and want to allow users permission to save.
    From reading Adobe help I'm told its something in advanced menu I need to set but cant even find the advanced menu
    Frustrated  because I would imagine this is something so common that there should be a big red button saying "SAVE"
    HELP !!!
    Thanks
    Stu

    That was in earlier versions. In Acrobat X you need to go to:
    File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features

  • Saving form with content (end user)

    I have created a form using AdobeLiveCycle Designer.
    Everything seams to work when I tested it... However, When I send it for someone to fill out, she wanted to save a copy for her records with the data included. I was able to do a simple "save as" to achieve this. but she was not and received a message, stating "Data typed into this form will not be saved. Acrobat reader can only save a blank version of the form." then goes on to say "please print you completed form if you would like a copy for you records" "print form" button appears.
    My question: Is there a way to format or save out the form so that someone with only reader can save a completed version of the form. How do I do this?
    Thanks!

    The form has to have special Extended Reader Rights enabled. There are many posts and pinned FAQs about this.

  • How do I edit a saved form?

    I have acrobat X and I need to edit 3 fields on it.  THe form was saved with acrobat VI

    To edit the fields.
    Tools >> Forms >> Edit
    You can right click and choose properties on a field.

  • Difficulty with previously saved forms

    I have previously saved pdf forms.  When I open these documents I cannot see the data entered in every section at the same time.  Instead I can only see data in a single section I have currently clicked in.  In addition, when I print the document only this same section prints - and none of the other sections print even though I can see the data - but again only when I click in those sections.

    Could you please confirm that your Mobile Link was turned on while trying to get the documents signed? Also, please let us know the Adobe Reader version that you are using.
    Also, as you mentioned that you do not get the option to save the document to Acrobat.com, did you tap on the overflow menu an not get the option to save the document to Acrobat.com? This scenario is only possible if your document is already saved to Acrobat.com. For all local documents, you must get this option.
    Also, signature tool gets 'flattened'(embedded into the document) as soon as you close the file, hence it is a more reliable way of adding the signatures. Once a signature is added, you can always clear it to add a new signature.
    Could you please also confirm that the 'Recents' list does not have different documents with the same name?

  • Previously saved forms now blank...

    Using Reader on Andriod (Nexus 4) for work verification forms. I have been using the app for the past two weeks to record job information, gather signatures, etc. When I went to pull up the forms for completion and invoicing, they are now all coming up blank. All previously saved information is now missing.
    Any clues on what happened, or ways to retrieve a previous version? This is 13 clients in a large geographic area, would be very difficult to obtain signatures again.
    Also, my documents are not syncing between my Android and cloud.acrobat.com. Changes made on one device do not show up on the other, even though mobile link is enabled.

  • Text Not Lining Up Properly in Fillable Form | Acrobat 9 Pro

    I have a number of documents that were created in MS Word and then I converted them to PDF through Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. A number of those documents have text fields that the end user will type their data into - example: a message area on a fax cover sheet.
    The original Word document has that area lined such as this:
    When that area (as shown above) is converted as a field in the "add fields" to the form in Adobe Acrobat I am deleting out the individual fields Adobe "detects" and instead making it one large content box.
    Under properties I have "multi-line" and "scroll long text" selected.
    Now the problem....for some unknown reason....some fields are working perfectly that when we type into the PDF fillin form that the text that is typed lines up perfectly with the lines (as shown above). In other instances it's not lining up at all.
    I have played with font size, font type, spacing on the original Word document.I have scoured the internet and the forums with no success (either no one else is asking or I'm not using the proper search terms).
    Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?
    I've also included a screenshot of the document so you can see the wackiness.

    You don't have direct control of the leading of a multiline text field. A common approach is to control the background color of the field with JavaScript since the lines are not really needed when the field is used in Reader/Acrobat. They may be useful when using the form by hand. • PDFs saved in Acrobat 9 Pro can't be opened in 4...

    I have some PDFs that I've created in InDesign CS4 and they open fine in everything. If I make any small changes in Acrobat 9 Pro, say just changing the Initial View, and then doing a Save As the new file will not open in Acrobat 4.
    I'm greeted by the following error message:
    "There was an error opening this document. Could not repair file."
    I'm also experiencing scrambled text if I open the PDF in Preview.
    I've also recently had a print shop that wasn't able to handle a PDF saved in Acrobat 9, but was able to handle the same PDF saved in 8. So I was just wondering if anyone else out there has been experiencing the same issues?
    The details:
    Acrobat 9 Pro (9.1.2)
    OS X 10.4.11 PPC
    Why does the PDF have to open in Acrobat 4? Well there's no real reason it shouldn't, plus I like to see what my PDFs will look like to someone using an old program that doesn't support transparency.

    You need to use the optimizer to set the version you want the pdf to be saved as.

  • Characters truncated when saving to acrobat x

    THis is happening for a user of ours when they import data and then are saving it as a pdf. They had Acrobat 8 Std installed. I removed that and installed Acrobat X and its still happening. You can see the words Docement, From, Overdue and Frequency all have hte last, or part of the last, letter cut off. Only one year is cut off. The text in red of cut off on the edge of the page. Another user is pulling the same data and saving from Acrobat and does not have this issue. Any Ideas? I made the pixels/inch settings larger and smaller but it dodn't help...

    Thank you for pointing out the difference between suite and individual product - helpful, time- and cost-saving for me (since I almost ordered). Adobe should maybe be more specific about this in product informations about upgrades for distributors / vendors so that they can in turn inform customers. Since CS6 and Acrobat X are not in synch and my CS5 has 2 sn (one for the CS and one for Acrobat) I had not expected this.

  • Saving forms takes long time.

    Hi,
    I our system we foud that, when many users are working - saving form (from both web interface and smartview) in one of our planning app takes a long time (over 10 minutes).
    When there are few users working it takes only few seconds.
    What can be done to increase planning performance in situations like this?
    Best regards,

    I did mention on a question you posted in the ODI forum

  • Offline scenario - post data from saved form to SQLServer

    This is the scenario am struggling to develop. User downloads the interactive form.  Goes offline. I mean no connection to the Web Application Server. But he will have access to a SQLServer database (it may be on his machine or in his intranet). He will fill the form and save it on his local hard disk. Now, I want his saved form data to be posted to the SQLServer.  I thought about a couple of ways to do this.
    1) Is it possible to change the control type of 'Submit' button to submit and then in the URL field, call some ASP page (this page is deployed on a local IIS) and then submit the form fields to that ASP page which takes care of database connection, posting etc. So user downloads form only once. But fills it with different data each time and clicks submit. First of all, will submit button work when the form is not opened in web browser? I mean when it is saved on a local hard disk opened in a standalone Adobe Reader?
    2) Is it possible to write some java program using any APIs and extract the data from the form saved on local hard disk? It may be possible because I have the .xdp file for the form. But I dont know if there are some APIs available to do the same.
    Any inputs whether these ideas are feasible? Any other new ideas are also welcome. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Narayana,
    if you want to export xml data from Reader to local disk you can use a command:
    xfa.host.exportData("",0);
    It works like from menu Export data from Forms.
    To your second post:
    Yes, you can save form in Adobe Live cycle designer as pdf and you can open it in Adobe Reader and test it. It will work.
    In tab Submit for your button set these properties:
    Submit Format: XML Data (XML)
    Submit to URL: url of your page
    Encoding: UTF8
    Here is a sample code in c# for asp.net. Insert method save to your asp.net page and call it from method Page_Load.
              using System;
              using System.IO;
              using System.Web;
              private void save()
                   const int coniBufferLen=1024;
                   string lsTmpFile;
                   try
                        lsTmpFile="c:\adobe\body.pdf.xml.txt";  // File on local disk where to save xml data sent by Reader. IIS needs rights to write here.
                        FileStream loFS=null;
                        try {loFS=File.Create(lsTmpFile);}
                        catch (Exception e1)

                             return;
                        int liCelkem=Request.ContentLength;
                        int liNacteno=0;
                        byte[] laResponse=null;
                        int liLen=Math.Min(coniBufferLen,liCelkem-liNacteno);
                        while (liLen>0)
                             try
                                  laResponse=Request.BinaryRead(liLen);
                                  loFS.Write(laResponse,0,liLen);
                             catch (Exception e1)
                                  try {loFS.Close();}
                                  catch {}
                                  try {File.Delete(lsTmpFile);}
                                  catch {}
                                  // TODO
                                  return;
                             liNacteno+=liLen;
                             liLen=Math.Min(coniBufferLen,liCelkem-liNacteno);

  • Errors on saved form when designed with Acrobat 9 Pro

    I have created a file with Acrobat 9 Pro with fields, check boxes, etc.... for customers to fill in, save, and e-mail/print .
    I finally managed to get the form to be saved by any Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 (or above). But when they open their saved , filled-in form, the contents have changed! The boxes they have ticked are no longer ticked, but others are instead...

    LiveCycle Designer is no longer distributed as part of the Acrobat release. I think it is available as a separate product. At this point, Acrobat provides the AcroForm type tools (kind of hard to get to, just as in some previous versions) and the option for Forms Central. The whole focus has changed. I suspect that others may be in the same situation of trying to get their forms to interact in Acrobat or Forms Central, but at this point I do not think there is any way to back Designer forms into either of the two current formats. Not much help, but a comment in any case.

  • Saving form created in Acrobat XI so other users cannot edit contents

    I created a form in Acrobat XI and added information to the fields.  I created multiple files, each with different data.  I want users with Reader to be able to see the completed forms using Reader, but not be able to edit the fields.  Hopefully I don't have to go through the settings under File -> Preferences -> Security because they are dreadfully complex.  Hopefully there is a simple solution.

    Thank you Gilad, for the prompt response.  Can you briefly explain how to
    "flatten" the file?  There is no option with that word in any of the
    dropdowns.  Also, where would one find the "Action" option?  Again, I'm not
    seeing it.  As noted, I am using Acrobat XI.
    Regardless, I think that I found the solution: File -> Save as Other...->
    Archivable PDF (PDF/A).  When I did that, it saved the file, but gave an
    error message that I ignored.  Information in the fields was then visible,
    but not editable.  Also, I was able to link multiple files together using
    Create -> Combine Files into a Single PDF... such that each record was
    different.
    Thank you again.

  • Filling in Forms and Saving in Acrobat Reader

    Hi, i have created form fields in a PDF document created in Acrobat 8, but when i open the document in Reader, it will not allow me to save the file with the form filled out, it will oly allow a blank document to be saved. Is there a way around this so that anyone opening the documet in reader can save the filled out form? There is no security setting and comments are NOT enabled. Any insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    t

    If you're using Acrobat 8 Pro, you can Reader-enable the document, which allows Reader to save a filled-in form. In Acrobat 9, the menu item to do this is "Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader", but I think it was something different in Acrobat 8. Check Acrobat's Help doc if you can't find it.

  • Saving rights and date format in Forms - Acrobat Professional 8

    Hi Forum,
    I have designed a form for a client in Acrobat 8 Professional, and enabled viewing rights in Reader. There will be a lot of people using this form that are not in any way computer literate, and the client has requested that I do the following:
    1. I have set up the date format (in a date-of-birth field) to dd/mm/yy, limited to 8 characters, and a Tool-tip explaining how the date must be written. However, if you enter the date by mistake as 01/01/2001, it will be allowed, and appear as 01/01/20 (instead of coming up with an error message saying the 20 is wrong and it should be 01). I understand that to the form, there's nothing wrong with this date, but is there any way I can get a pop-up box to appear if either '19' or '20' appears as the year, and indicate to the form-filler that they should check what they've entered?
    2. They want the user, when the document is opened in Reader, to NOT be allowed the 'Save' feature, but only allow them to 'Save AS', so as not to overwrite the master document, which will be stored in a folder. The information in these forms are of a sensitive nature, so they don't want it getting saved by accident into the master document for anyone to see.
    I would be delighted if you were able to give me any ideas on the above.
    Kind regards,
    Liz

    For #1, you can, but it would involve some custom JavaScript programming to replace what Acrobat uses as the Keystroke/Format scripts.
    For #2, you cannot set up the document or Acrobat (Reader) to prevent a Save but allow a Save As. The best way to do what you want is to set up the appropriate file permissions using the OS's file system to prevent users from changing the file. A quick & dirty way is to simply set the file to read-only, but this is often easy for a user to undo.
